[Help] Move from Stock ICS to CM10.1/2 - LG Optimus 2x

Like many others on here, I have a stock, unrooted, old su660 (new bootloader) that I would like to install CM 10.1/2 on. I have read many of the forums on here but am confused about:
1. How exactly should I root? Using this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1886460
2. Should I do this to install? CWM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1954903 Or should I use a newer version of CWM (and if there is one where is it)?
3. I understand Kowalski kernels is the way to go (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2441519) for the Cyanogen Mod p990 nightlies (http://get.cm/?device=p990) which is the way I would like to go.
If someone could walk me through this it would be amazing :good:.
Please help! It would be great if we could get an updated sticky.

CM 10.1 Nightly ROM is used in OLBL. You can down files to change from ICS stock to NewBL following the thread below http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2020737. And uses AIO Toolkit and Introduction to flash!

1b/ Download u-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip, copy to SD card (http://goo-inside.me/superuser/su-2....fgh-signed.zip).
In case you do not want root, skip this and steps 4, 5.
All PEBKAC questions go to General section, not here!
2/ Unpack LG-P500-v20g.7z with 7Zip or whatever
3/ Run LGMDP-v1.5.exe from the folder where you unpacked it and flash it the "Russian way"... For a walktrough on using this tool, see my Flash baseband HOWTO. (Note: I have replaced the stock recovery with CWM 3.1.0.0. In case you already have a custom recovery installed, just uncheck the box.)
4/ Reboot into recovery, flash su-2.3.6.3-cd-signed.zip.
5/ Install Busybox Installer from Market, install busybox.
6/ Done!
Bonus:
Kernel with overclocking: check this thread
Caveats: Switching to another ROM (not based on official v20 ROM):
- either flash only the stock 2.2.x baseband via LGMDP-v1.5.exe, see my Flash baseband HOWTO.
- or flash stock 2.2.x ROM via KDZ; or
- (for CM7 ROMs only): - after flashing ROM via ZIP, reboot and flash mik's new-baseband-patch-signed.zip from recovery[/B]! If you encounter issues, report them to mik_os (his CyanogenMod 7.1 thread), NOT to me, I cannot fix it!
Known bug: No 2G/3G data - wait for a new release.

FAQ:
Q: Can you upload v20B/D/... as well?
A: NO! I have better things to do than wasting my time with slow uploads. You can prepare the ROM yourself, just follow [HOWTO] Cook your custom rom for LG P500. Note: You only need steps 1-2. After that, replace recovery.img with one of your choice from here. Not to mention that the ROMs are essentially the same for everyone, save for country/OEM-specific bloat.
Didn't know it was already out :O I'm gonna test this soon!

Going back to 2.2/2.3 ROMs not based on LG's v20 -> flash stock 2.2.x with KDZ (as also already written on another thread as well.) That is the whole purpose why I uploaded the stupid 100+ megs file, after all.

[Q]Cyanogenmod 7.1

should i install a froyo rom before i flash cyanogenmod 7.1???
No, cm 7.1 works better when your install base is Samsung gingerbread because of the bootloaders.
P.S. you don't need to create a topic when there is already thread for Q&A regarding CM7
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1067074
okay i tried to install it on jvs 2.3.5 now the phone shows cyanogenmod icon and keeps rebooting :S

The very same thread u're referring to says one needs to running rooted Eclair/Froyo Bootloader.
My question is, Do i really need to Downgrade to Froyo if I'm already on stock Gingerbread?
and also, How would we know if Gingerbread bootloader becomes "safe" in future, if ever?

No need to downgrade, GB bootloaders are safe.
In the early(er) CM7 days Froyo bootloaders were needed for CM, for the last couple of months both bootloaders are supported, and GB bootloaders are preferred because of lower batt drain.
If needed you can always go back to Froyo bootloaders using Odinn/Heimdall.

Can't find a source stating this, but i'm running CM7 with GB Bootloaders. Only risk you were running installing CM7 on GB was that your external SD-Card wouldn't be recognized, and there was a Loadscreen glitch when the phone booted.
Those issues was fixed a couple months ago, so there is no problem flashing CM7 over GB Bootloaders.

Have fun flashing

CM10 & ICS its not a guide but it will help you if you dont know what to do

for all of you noobs as I am.......
maybe this will help you not to loose too much time (I will edit and try and make this a guide as to how and what as I get the time)
1) CM 10 installation instructions for CM10 can be found in the following thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33470004&postcount=1
2) Harsh/Tonyp ICS rom has to be installed on the old bootloader aka CM7/GB
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1959545
to have this rom you need to be on CM10 (upgarade from CM7, any other GB based roms) you will need to do a clean install full wipe
+ all other CM10 based roms which means that you need to read the first post and if it says that it is based on CM10 then its not ICS and you need to be on the old bootloader..... (no need to NVFLASH or SMARTFLASH)
3)All other ICS 4.04 releases are for the new bootloader TG, opti, stefan, DM and so on (you need to nvflash or smartflash it)
which means you will loose all your data..... instructions in the following links.....
Django manouche by carburano http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2038631
TG by topogigi http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2007968
Flex Icer by Civato http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2038868
Opti ICS by Homero http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2003888
Ghostriders by Cojo http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2002083
+ all the other stock roms available
(I will add links to how to smartflash and/or NVflash)
4) Remember that CM10 is JB......... LG released ICS......... NOT THE SAME THING (compared to windows its like CM is W8 and ICS is W7 at least to me........)
5) read always the first 3 posts as they explain everything
6) Read tonyp BB thread from beginning to end as it explains everything relevant to BB (if you aint dumb)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1658047
7)why the hell nobody made a shortlist like this b4 it would have saved me a lot of time and would not make me look like a fool.....

please refer to this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35708946&postcount=1

and I reserve this one too

1.- There have been reports already at CM10 user thread
4.- CM10 is ICS, CM10.1 is JB.
5.- Couldn't agree more
7.- It's up to you how you look
Btw, there is this thread, altought with some more effort I'm sure this could turn into a useful post anyway.
I wish there was a "news" post that got updated daily so I could learn for example that recently a new CM10 version appeared on jenkins and the details about it without having to check a couple of the threads.
Anyway, keep it up.

Fun facts FYI.
CM7 is based on GB (2.3.x) AOSP source (previous official version for P990)
CM9 is based on ICS (4.0.x) AOSP source (never compiled officially for P990)
CM10 is based on JB (4.1.x) AOSP source (current official version for P990)
CM10.1 is based on JB (4.2.x) AOSP source (hopefully will release someday(NOT asking for ETA!))
Cheers
mods - stick this thread up... great job Massimo

I am wanting to install the CM10 nightly.. I am coming from temasek's CM7. I'm a little bit confused with point number 2. Is it saying you can't directly flash CM10 over CM7 in CWM even if you do a full wipe because CM7 does not use the "old" bootloader/partition layout?

no you dont but it might be good to have an extended system partition ........
You can use this tool to resize the partitions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2020737
follow the instructions carefully + you will need the CM (which is a separate download) pack to be able to read the internal SD
Hmm confused here..
I am also on temasek cm7 - and would like to try cm10.
But what do I do - step by step please.. keep it simple if possible
I am used to flashing rom and kernel with cwm 5028, but I now absolutely nothing about bootloader, partition, NVFlash, smartflash....
Also what rom to get? I am not going for blitz fast top notch gung ho rom - just stable, as much working as possible. Cm10 nightly? Is the call bug history?
Thx in advance

Honestly, there really isn't. Each rom has its own little quirky issues.
PAC has no gps and a goofy Hangouts crash, wifi doesn't like to connect after the screen comes on (turn off then back on)
AOSPA works fine for some, not for others, no wifi for some
Slim has no gps, radio signal is bad, random wifi disconnects (fix like PAC usually, sometimes needs reboot)
CM10.1 gps...
All may have occasional lag, wifi issues, gps issues, random bluetooth issues, no camcorder, no HDR camera -- regular and panorama work
Its hit or miss at the moment. One nightly will be fine, next has crap battery, next has better battery but image banding...
None of them suck, but they might not be for you if you dislike development roms that may be incomplete or have a bug or two. Really depends if the bug is a deal breaker or not.
I still go back to clean ROM or the 4.1.2 mex jb ROM everything works and the batt life is a lot better . Also you can install cwm through ROM manager in the play store . Just use the photon q version . I have been able to flash every ROM with it . Make sure you back up b4 you start installing ROMs .

How root/new ROM

Hello,
I am a complete noob and need help figuring out how to do this, I have a kindle fire that i set up with the pure android 4.2 ROM, and was wondeing how i could do this with my captivate, and is there any way i can use this on AT&T without a data plan.
By the way the captivate is running the way it comes form at&t .
Click the link below and read (to get the idea), then read again (to understand what you are doing), then do exactly what it says (to get what you want). Start with CyanogenMod Stable 10.1.2, it's the most popular custom ROM (may change it later to whatever you want 4.2.2 based). Don't flash Android 4.3 beta ROMs as your first custom ROM. You need to download Google Apps too, version for 4.2.2 ROMs. Don't forget to backup your data before upgrading. Good luck!

Good luck!

Oh sorry, read it wrong.
Superoneclick won't work on anything higher than GB.
That being said, you don't need it to root your device.
