I have an iPad 3 and a rooted Nook with CyanogenMod on it. Both go days and days on standby, meaning fully on but the screen just off. My N7 which I just got a week ago is totally dead after 24 hours, even if I have not used it at all.
Is this normal?
Mine lasts about two days with minimal use.
Make sure wifi is set to sleep while screen off.

You need to get something like Gsam from playstore. It may tell you if an app is draining your battery severely, or if apps are waking the tab too much.
Also, Cpuspy will tell you if its going into deep sleep. On playstore as well.
Those will hopefully tell you why your battery is draining. I charge my N7 about every other day....maybe 3. Its mostly used to read books, and sometimes some games. So definitely not heavy use. But standby, about 1 percent lost overnight.

Not normal. Just did over 3 days with 6 hrs screen on time. Turn wifi off when screen is off and make sue you dont have any apps running non stop. Better battery thats is a north app for this. Check the partial wakelocks

Mine takes 2 to 3 usually. Are you using the cable and charger that came with it? If not, that can play a roll. Also, if something greedy is running, can slow charge times too.

Mine drains pretty quick when in use, but if idling, it lasts a very long time. I've seen it not drop 1% until maybe 2-3 hours idling. Heavy usage drains like 1% every 10-15 min.

I think it is MightyText. It seems if I get a text from someone I have not received a text from before it opens a window on the locked screen showing the text and then the screen never goes back to sleep. It stays on until the battery runs out. If I get a text from someone I had a conversation already going with this does not happen.
Pretty weird but it explains why it is totally dead when I would get home from work.
I had poor battery life too,but I've done something that someway fixed that.
I format system etc and reinstall 4.2.2 stock with stock kernel.
After some charging circles here the results
i know if you leave skype on it drains an insane amount of battery...so i keep it logged out now whenever I don't use it
I would have liked to see the main battery status page. See if you did anything with it, or just kept the screen alive for 9 hours? LOL.

I've seen couple of movies about 6 hours using mx player, and about 3 hours WiFi internet browsing using Firefox and tapatalk.

Total time from charged to empty about 26 hours.

I sincerely think that we should wait for the official release of this phone. Some of XDA memmber should be able to get their hands on by the end of this month

Sent from my GT-I9505G using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
So is the general consensus on battery life that it's good enough to get through a day with moderate type usage? One of the pros of active notifications is that it decreases your battery usage because you're not constantly waking up the phone to check notifications and time, right? I was kinda meh on the whole customization thing til I just went through Moto Maker and I kinda fell in love with what I designed. I know I like the size and on-screen buttons a whole lot more than the Maxx. It's just a question of whether I can sacrifice the larger battery and I know I don't need the two full days, but I don't wanna be stuck on a charger before one day is out either.
Any review online is saying it's above average battery life.
After a full charge, screen time over 3 hours with 55% battery left. I'm impressed.

I got a pretty much linear drop in battery regardless of usage yesterday. I put it on the charger after about 18 hours, but it would've made it to at least 24 had I left it off the charger. The interesting thing is that I had it hooked up to my car stereo to listen to music for a 2.5 hour drive, mostly with the screen off, and there wasn't any noticable difference in battery life. Also, I could hear stuff in the music i've never heard before, i.e. the sound is amazing.
Battery seems real good

After almost a week of using it, I actually find the battery life is a bit annoying in a good way though. I am not a heavy user. During the day, a dozen of times of youtube+netflix during breaks, a few phone calls and sms, while outside always have gps on. At the end of the day, I have about half battery left. To charge it over the night is somewhat electricity waste. But not charging it is to leave my next day somewhat anxious. So yeah, maybe I am too greedy in hoping for two days no charging. My Nexus 4 really requires at least one charge a day and this habit has grown on me. Oh well...let's hope after JB 4.3 update, X's battery life can be prolonged a little more
For the people that have posted stats. Is your battery saver on or off?
My best battery cycle was 31 hours standby and close to four hours screen time. It died before I could take screenshots though, will try again on this battery cycle.

I'm on my second day and the battery isn't that great so far. Right now I'm at 77% after 6 hours and only 30 minutes of screen time. Also Android OS is the highest battery user at 35%.
Awesome battery... Verizon's, fully charged this morning and now I'm at 13 hours later, 4h 15m screentime and still 33% left.
This is with battery saver off, brightness auto
Also used blutooth audio for 30 minutes and GPS for about 20 minutes.
Loving the battery life and not sure how I survived without active notifications.
Just wondering how yourbattery life is with a custom clock... mine seems to die quicker.

You'd better check the followings :
- Display / Brightness
- Vibration
- Ringtone
- Apps to be notified or running ...
etc. ...
These are also the factors to your battery life.
Dont listen to the previous comments. My battery life definitely sucked with custom faces installed. They weren't even necessarily being used and it drained faster. Removed the app altogether and things are back to normal.

That's because it takes more juice to light up the screen with a bigger image instead of their default watch interfaces.

Sounds like more than that if the battery drains more even when you aren't using one of the screens.

I can't say that it is draining my battery faster per se, but one thing I've noticed is that any custom clock I have made wont show up it ifs not paired/connected to my phone. I guess that would make me assume that it constantly sucking up juice.
Watch styler had been pulled off Samsung apps due to battery drain issues..
TESTING
Testing today at work will repoty back later I'm starting out with 80% battery and will see how it is when I get home...

I can turn bluetooth off on my phone so that the Gear disconnects and the custom watch face still displays on the Gear.
You can't change to a different one obviously, but if one was already active, it still works fine.

Yup, I agree.
I just discovered the custom face app last night and decided to try it out.
I made a very basic analog clock with date, battery icon & Bluetooth icon.
I enabled it this morning after the watch had charged all night. My battery was down to 15% by 1:30 this afternoon.
I usually get a full day easily with battery to spare.

Speculation, or did you find something official from Samsung (with a note about them working on it hopefully...)?
Well just got home from work....and here's a update for the battery status. I'm currently at 50% I started at 80% so I say the battery is good IMHO
Unplugged my gear at 7am today and as right now with moderate usage I'm at 18%. I can live with that for now.
I unplugged at 8am and just after midday, it is at 90%.
That is with 4 or 5 email notifications, a couple of sms notifications, installing Atooma and testing it out and checking the time a few times.
I'd say battery drain is about the same for me.
What design are you guys with battery problems using? If it has a lot of white or light colours it will drain the battery quicker.
Most of the stock faces have black backgrounds.
My custom face has a mainly black background.

Finally Watch Styler was released to the Samsung app store for Gear 2 NEO watches... I love the ability to switch from the standard watch faces to suddenly wearing an Omega, Police, Hublot, Cartier but I did notice a significant degradation of battery life. If I set one of these faces as my primary, I can't last a full day with it. Usual routine is unplugging the watch from the charger around 6. Powering it on around 6:30 AM, by around 3:30 PM, I've already received low battery warnings. I come home to give it a quick charge but then I'm not wearing it so it kinda beats the purpose.
I've switched to the built-in faces for now. Will be using the custom faces sparingly as needed... Fix this Tizen!

Watchstyler faces sucks... I agree. Btw i installed from playstore an app called clocky. The app install some custom watchfaces ( in wgt format) that can be applyed trough gear manager. Very very battery friendly, yesterday after about 5 hour i had still 100% battery.
On Tizen watch styler drains the battery quickly and if it disconnects from bluetooth the watch styler stops the watch. On android my watch face continues to tick on even when it is disconnected from bluetooth and times out the battery lasts longer on android using watch styler and drains faster on tizen.
I am sick of hearing about how bad the battery life is on the Gear.
My Gear have great battery life, charge it every two days but yesterday.
The Google Smart watch is coming and it has much better battery life that the Gear's 12 hours??? !!!
Who can only get 12 hours on the Gear, and what do you do to burn the battery that quick?

Should make no difference at all.
thats because most reviewers dont know what they are talking about
My battery life is great. 3 to 4 days moderate use. And worse comes to worse wack it on the charger while i get ready for work and I have a days worth of battery.
I have a feeling they had pre-release versions which may have had worse battery life. Shame!
Yes, with more recent gear manager updates, I get around 3 days+
Mine lasts 3-4 days.
But I am only using it during the work day.
At the end of the day I have 85% left everyday. I think its biased reviews. I'm sure if the apple watch had a 6 hour battery they would says its genious and revolutionary.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
As a longtime 'professional' reviewer for over a decade (for the high fidelity audio industry), the non-rooted watch gives about 2 to 3 days battery life. Also, I don't recall seeing any reviews where they sideloaded apps, which makes the watch even more useful :good:
Frankly, don't trust all reviewers. :cyclops:
hahaha .... ... they (those reviewers said about bad battery life) have already decided just on the number of xxx mAh. (once they see it.).
I NEVER TRUST ... I TRUST MYSELF ON WHAT I HAVE DECIDED and TRIED ON MY OWN.
My battery life is 3 or 4 days. .. depending of use .
I think it depends of 'home screen ' . With watch styler, if my watch face is 'white' battery life can be 2 or 3 days. But with a standard watch face (black) battery life is 3 or 4 days...
If bluetooth is always turn on, the other battery's drain can only be screen... and it depends of the number of notifications you receive every days ! (And number you look at your watch daily )
Yes I agree with you on that I get 2 to 3 days of battery life heavy usage brightness at 4 and timeout at 15

I have been using my gear on an S4 with android 4.2.2. Battery was usually about 50% at bedtime. I updated to the android 4.3 yesterday which gave me full capabilities of the Gear. Today after 8 hours of pretty heavy use (lots of email) I am at 90%. 4.3 does a much better job of handling BT connections, not just on the Gear but my other BT devices.
This is my 4th smartwatch (Sony MN800, Sony MN2SW, Pebble). The Sony MN2 was pretty decent, touchscreen/color but its battery life was terrible, had trouble making it through the whole day. Pebble had great battery life, constant on screen, but having to use buttons and no color was tough for me after having a touch color screen. Gear is definately heading in the right direction for me. Now that the battery life is can last 2+ days I am even more pleased with my decision to dive in. I turn the screen brightness to +2 which is extremely bright for indoor use.:good:
Yep, agreed.
My battery life is more than I can hope for with this thing.
I'm on day 2 and still have 61 percent battery life left.
I have screen brightness on 1 (which seems perfectly viewable for me) and time out for 7 seconds.
I can go 4 days easy with my current settings.
While I agree the battery life is a bit better than the reviews suggested, I'm surprised so many of you are getting 3-4 days worth. I use mine very lightly... it's stock, I don't have hardly any apps loaded on it, I'm currently just using it to occasionally see the time, and get txt/call/email notifications. I have the most battery efficient watch face (the black one with orange hands and only four markers), brightness on 4, timeout on 10s, using the latest gear manager on a stock Note 3. After 48hrs, I'm below 30% battery. The only excess usage I get is from the auto-wake... I do notice it coming on sometimes while I'm driving, or at the gym. Other than that, I really don't see how I could use it any less to get more life out of it (other than not using it at all). Once the software gets updated to make it a little more useful, I would expect battery life to get worse.
I'm not complaining, 2 days is acceptable to me, I just would have expected my usage patterns to put me at the long end of battery life relative to other users, rather than the short end.

I agree the reviewers had very bad results or bias, But at the same time I wish I knew how you guys were getting your results. Today was a light day, got maybe 20-30 texts and 5-10 emails. Didn't make any calls or respond to any texts with S-voice. I did just realize I had reset it recently so the brightness was at 4 with a 10 second time out. I normally run brightness at 2 and timeout at 7 to try to save the battery. I also use strong vibration and have the digital clock/weather watch face with a black background. I am at 82% after 12 hours, which again I don't think is bad. That would net me 2-3 days, but again that was what I consider very light usage. With heavy usage I doubt it would make it through the day.
I'm not complaining because I am ok with charging it every night, so long as it makes it through the day I am ok with it. I would just be happier if I knew I could get 2+ days with medium usage at least, including bright screen and all that jazz.
Also, side tracking I know, but what apps have you guys side loaded that you have found useful?
I have brightness at max and use it VERY heavily. I work as a mobile computer tech and all my calls are taken on it, I use svoice to make calls, I use svoice to reply to SMS and I'm always playing with it. The lowest battery at the end of a day (by which I mean 7:00am until midnight) was 38%.
I really cant fathom how it would be possible to deplete the battery in just 12 hours.
my use today :
I read 15 sms, 10 mail , take 3 pics and call with my father 15 min with gear speak phone (and the other 15 min with the phone.)
blue tooth connected permanently.
Number of auto wake : ?? A lot !!
Time Out : 15s
last complete charge : this night ( disconnect at 8 am.)
Now I read 1:28 am.
Battery level : 61%
it's all rights !!!

Man!
Almost 7 hrs of SOT... Thats Frigging AWESOME! Can you tell us your usage patterns? What was enabled/disabled...? Majority time on WiFi or Mobile Network (2g/3g/HSPA/LTE). Signal Strength of the Carrier
On my N4, the highest ive gotten is 5 1/2 hrs of SOT and that is with most of the stuff disabled and on wifi!
Whoa! At first 11 hours looked bleak, but 7 hours of screen-on time sounds fantastic!
Wifi on the whole time or not.. 7 hours of SOT is impressive.. especially on a 2300mAh battery
as a current S4 user, seeing things like this is making me really impatient in waiting for the N5! i could barely get 5 hours SOT on an AOSP rom on my S4 or even on TW and this was with greenify and auto sync off at night.
really hoping that once I get my N5 average SOT time will be 4-5 hours as thats all i really need to be satified

What screen brightness setting are you using? I barely hit 3 hours of on-screen time on my galaxy S3 so this looks really good! :good:
The most screen on time I used to get on my S4 is 5:30 with wifi only use. That number has dropped to 4:00 now on wifi and 3:00 when I am on LTE for pretty much the whole time.
This battery life is impressive to me and seeing the camera comparisons between nexus 5/S4 and having the Nexus 5 win has solidified by decision to get a nexus 5. Now if only I didn't have to wait 3-4 weeks...

Hey mate, that's a miracle, the curve goes even up at times
You obviously made some micro-charges during the day, you cheeky troll
For the first charge out of the box, should you charge the device on or off in order to get the best out of the battery as well as improving battery's lifespan? Cheers

Those two little bumps where it goes up in charge I think are where I had it plugged into the pc to transfer stuff across.
Anyway.....
Wi-fi was on all day apart from a couple of occasions where I went out for a short while and it was on H+ (full signal)
Google Now is disabled.
Sync is enabled.
Screen is on auto-brightness but my living room is fairly bright and so I'd guess at the screen being on 50-75% brightness all the time.
Those 7 hours of screen on time were pretty much all down to browsing on Chrome and aimlessly scrolling on Facebook.
I'm very impressed with this phone (even though my power button rattles) and at first didn't know if I'd made the right choice ditching my S4 to get it, but after having it since Friday I'm glad I did now. Another thing, the signal is great. On my S4 in the gym I used to get 1- 2 bars of 3G signal at best, with the N5 I get 4 bars of H+.
For anyone thinking about getting this phone, you won't regret it, especially if you're not a fan of having to charge your phone at 3pm because it's dead.

I've seen multiple devices I've owned including this one where the battstats go up in tiny peaks without me charging it. Just saying, it happens even if it wasn't plugged in to PC. If u were in the PC we would have seen the charging bar wouldn't be empty. Its almost like the battstats graph predicts usage and where the batt prolly will fall to but then if u stop using it it goes back. Idk hard to explain.
