[Q] Ch. 2 Sprint Hero...Improperly Rooted - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I posted this earlier, and received some help from oohaylima. I had to take some time off and it got away from me, but I still need help. I've read through hours of info. here but haven't been able to find an answer. A few posts were close, but the links they provided were broken or the pages they referred to had been taken down.
1. Since I can only access the phone via wifi, can I still rescue the phone, or can I do that using the SD card only (the links were no good in the post similar to this,)?
2. Since this last post, I did reset the phone holding the Home and Power buttons, now I get an error code 67 whenever I turn it on. Something concerning a User name and Password for a sprint account.
3. The phone won't activate with my Boost Mobile account, I can not place or receive calls with it.
4. My experience so far is limited to rooting a couple of phones and installing CM ROM's through instructions and guides here at xda and at the CM forum.
5. I would like to be able to flash CM onto the phone, not the stock version it came with.
To save time I have copied the last post here...
"I bought a second hand Sprint Hero cdma. ($12.50) It had the stock ROM, but also had BusyBox Pro and Superuser installed. Upon checking, su wasn't working, and BBPro gave a message that the phone was improperly rooted. Upon checking with RootChecker v 1.3 I got the following info from the table:
SU
su found
{/system/bin/, /system/xbin/}
Root Access
no access
UID/GID
uid=10084(app_84)
gid=10084(app_84)
group=3003(init)
UNIX UTILS
toolbox
/system/bin/toolbox
PATH
/system/xbin
/system/sbin
/sbin
//system/bin
Root Check Lite gave the message:
Your phone is rooted.
Your phone does not have superuser access.
I tried to root it again with superoneclick but it hung up on the second line. I then discovered that the phone won't connect via USB to mount the phone. My WIN 7, 64 bit HP won't read anything from it except wirelessly via Wondershare MobileGo. But, it does charge okay. (I have an old Samsung Conquer which functions okay via USB on my PC.)
The Firmware version, etc., is as follows:
Firmware: v 2.1 update 1
Baseband:v 2.42.02.10.29
Kernel: v 2.6.29.-ba77cfo3
[email protected] #1
Build: 2.32.651.2.CL282911 release-keys
Software: 2.32.651.2
PRI v: 2.65_003
PRL v: 11117
EDIT
I guess I am asking how do I re-root properly...or un-root then re-root. "
Thanks in advance to oohaylima and all,
Mike

What is needed is to flush the phone and start from scratch. What's your status on this now? I know it's been a couple of weeks.

How to Bypass T-Mobile Google Setup screen??

Hi All,
Having trouble with my G1 (see my post below). The only remedy I see is to get past the opening tmobile Google sign up and get to the real home screen. From there...
I tried to do it through wifi but I don't have an att data plan or an unlocking code for my ATT SIM. (I did put ATT APN settings)
THoughts appreciated?
Regards, PK
BTW, why are my posts not in bold?
Your posts are not in bold until you have new reply to it.
Why would you need att plan to use your wi-fi? That part I don't get but neverless
You will need to get that unlock code to use your att sim card, there's no way around it, period.
If you want to use your phone on wi-fi with no sim card and you have root access then you can just go to this thread and follow the directions. If you don't have root access then then you need to downgrade to RC29 (using DREAIMG.nbh) and then follow the info in this thread. After it's all said and done you can either wait for OTA of the official 1.6 Donut or you can root and install the rom of your choice.
Good luck
very good, Thanks,
I did a successfully flash (I believe, sorta,... "bla, bla installation succesfull") with R29 DREAIMG.nbh from unlockr" .com" I say I believe because the only way I can tell is I can type in return, reboot, return and it reboots +it's a whole new opening screen with the Google runaround . The iffy part of "sorta...sucsesfull" of the flash is, I no longer have any access to any SD card and no ability to sync with PC.
As to unlocking the SIM card, no doubt, It will have to be done. Of the some 25 odd android websites I've been pouring over, theres no definitive statements as to just when in the process it should be done. I also don't know which of these guys are reputable Given my track record of half bricking this thing with my first flash, I'm going forward with a good dose of timidity. I'll take your comment as a go.
As far as wifi Google registration with out SIM card, I appreciate the link. I'll have to study it more but, I can't link to to my P.C. right now. I futzed with everything & follow instructions & prescriptions from everywhere for everything: adb, loaded new usb drivers, HTC drivers, android SDK-3, HTC sync (with supposedly corrected vista HTC drivers), Droid explorer, etc all day till 2 in the morning and the phone just isn't "taking calls", (or Sd's for that matter). But I'll keep trying.
Anyway thanks again for the straightening me out and the links.
Regards, PK
P.S. You can safely assume I tried everything every-which- way to get it to read SD's, that rebooting PC and the phone reformatting SD's, trying different capacities, buying another virgin card, popping the battery in and out,,, all a zillion times. Same goes for syncing. NADA.
thanks for ur information

[Q] razr i problems - fastboot menu

Hi guys, I am having an issue i cant seem to resolve on my razr i. apologies if this has already been covered in another thread (or 10, which is usually the way with these things because nobody reads the other threads) I have been through a load of other threads but cannot seem to resolve my issue so i started my own.
Right, I have switched from iphone to razr and am not stupid when it comes to jailbreaking etc so thought rooting the razr wouldnt be a problem. when trying to root it it failed and i am stuck at the fastboot menu, however, everything on the menu is disabled so i cant use it. i get the usual message:
fastboot reason: flash failure
fastboot max download size: 100mb
usb connected
if i try to use anything on the menu i get the following message:
fastboot menu disabled.
my phone is not unlocked and not rooted. i have barely done anything to it other than install a couple of free apps. i am unable to progress past this screen. the phone is GB and is on 4.0.4
any help you guys can give would be greatly appreciated. again, apologies if this has already been covered, none of the solutions i found were able to resolve my issue. as i said, i had no problems jailbreaking my old iphone, i am a bit of a n00b when it comes to droids...

Are you able to run fastboot commands ? Cause in that case you might be able To unlock bootloader and reflash the software .

I am not able to do anything. if i scroll to any of the options on the menu as soon as i hit the volume up key it just returns a message advising the fastboot menu is disabled.
**edit

Had the same problem, I used the recommendation in this thread, 5th post and it worked, but afterwards need to re-download apps from PlayStore:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36612151
Follow the instructions exactly - you need the drivers and RSD lite on Windows PC, then connect the phone via usb cable that came with it; and you'll need a full unzip program (cost) so you can move the unzipped files into RSD lite. Get the right flash file though - there's a list in the linked post if you don't want GB retail which I used. Important: this only works for ICS 4.0.4 and don't try to downgrade to an earlier version than what's currently on your phone e.g. v.39 to v.31, for example.
Good luck.
AW: [Q] razr i problems - fastboot menu
If the solution from mervluk does not work (It didn't work for me either) , you should try if you are able to use the fast boot commands .
To do that simply connect your phone to the PC. Then download fast boot , if you do not already have that. It is in the .zip from the RAZR I root thread.
The go to the downloaded folder. There hold shift and perform a right mouse click. Then choose" start a command prompt here "or something similar (don't know how the option is called in English).
Then type in
fastboot reboot
When the phone reboots you might be able to unlock your phone and flash the software.
BUT BE AWARE! YOU WILL LOSE YOUR WARRANTY!!
So you better try the other solution first. This should be your last option.
If you don't know how to unlock the bootloader look in the RAZR I forum or pn me .

Glad about that. This phone can be a bit of a so-and-so. ics is being updated ota to Jelly Bean 4.1.2, which I've avoided so far to keep fm (although not activated on the supplied software). I did succeed with unlocking the bootloader (loose warranty - important) following the whole complicated procedure on Moto's website - but couldn't myself use the shortcuts on here. (Then had to set up again and re-download everything from the PlayStore). It required the Moto-supplied key. I then rooted, though I think the JB ota download unroots again? You can't use RSD lite with JB.
With JB the procedures are different, and a modified JB European (not for use with GB) firmware is now available on another thread which is impressing some posters. But I think just be a bit cautious as there does not appear to be any fix for the "service code corrupt" bootloader error yet. Looks like the options are very restricted whilst no-one understand the interaction between Google Android and the intel atom chipset.
I have a network unlock key from one of the commercial suppliers (cellunlocker.net), but haven't needed to try and use it yet!

Hard bricked Moto G2 (XT 1068): Ideas for a solution welcome

Hi everyone,
I own a Motorola Moto G2 (XT1068, dual sim) that came used with Android 6.0 on it.
I installed TWRP (twrp-3.0.2-3-titan.img) on it but failed to root Android 6.0 as well as 5.0 for whatever not yet understood reason. I don't do Android development for a living but I'm an IT professional, so handling adb and fastboot as well as reading and understanding instructions isn't a problem.
I flashed stock Android 4.4.4 (RETDEALL_XT1068_4.4.4_KXB21.85-14) which I successfully rooted by installing SuperSU via TWRP.
Next I updated SuperSU, verified that root access is indeed working and installed FlashFire, which I hoped to use to install OS upgrades, possibly without losing root. FlashFire is new to me (as of yesterday), everything else mentioned up to here is not.
I used the "Flash ZIP or OTA" action from within FlashFire and the previously downloaded update file in the /cache directory. I can't reproduce the file name since the phone is currently unusable and I didn't write the file name down prior to using FlashFire.
The state of the phone after this unsuccessful attempt was that of a broken USB device, i.e. unable to even register as whatever type of USB device. I learned that this can be fixed by holding the power button down for more than one minute, after which I managed to
get the phone to be shown as working "RELINK HS-USB QDLoader 9008" USB serial device in Windows 7 device manager.
I used the information in these two threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/help/how-to-unbrick-moto-g-falcon-t3394788
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/help/how-to-revive-hard-bricked-moto-g-t2833798
Since I started with Android 4.4.4 trying to upgrade to 5.0, I had hoped that the blank flash package for one of these Android versions would help fix my problem, but as of now, this doesn't seem to be the case. At the end of the blank flashing process, I get the message
FAILED <blank-flash:sdl-transfer-image:sdl-hello: error sending packet>
After that, the phone still has a black screen and cannot boot into anything. Repeating blank flash works after resetting whatever part of it is still working by holding the power button down for about 30+ seconds.
Is there anything obvious (or maybe even not so obvious) that I missed?
Thanks for reading and any help and/or pointers in the right direction.

Did you solved the problem of hard brick of Moto G 2014?

VIE-L09 seems to be totally screwed!

Hey,
So i used the SRK tool to try and root my VIE-L09C40 (P9 Plus)
Something seemed to happended during the rooting procedure and when i entered e-recovery it said it had to Download a new version, but couldnt connect to internet via wifi.
Any ways it seemed to work after a while but now i have no keyboard at all, so i cant literally start my phone.
it starts, boots the EMUI 5.0 logo and goes through the information a terms, i click the ok button and thats fine.
Next it tells me to sign in to my wifi, i select my wifi and when i go to type the password all i have is google voice as a keyboard, ive searched and searched but cannot find a way around it, also the frp has tripped on phone so i cannot log in to my google account without a keyboard.
How can i get around this?
do i have to flash parts of firmware?
any help would be great, i sent it away to hauwei and they say warranty void due to software!, can only assume something wrong was flashed?
Waiting for phone to be returned now, please help
I had the exact same issue last night as well. No keyboard and only an option to enter details with voice.
Ended up with an essentially bricked phone. Couldn't find any info on the problem online, so I have to improvise.
I'm starting from scratch after formatting etc. using stock oeminfo, recovery and rolling back to Marshmallow. (fingers crossed ADB will let me, because it was giving me errors before)
Will let you know if I'm successful and the steps I took.

Good luck, i did read that it might be possible to install the base firmware back to it and then update again.
Im sure we are not the only people this has happened to and if you succesfully do this, maybe consider making a full step by step guide so to help others.
Fingers crossed
:good:
Will do my best.. So far it's been a major. I've managed to flash a working stock ROM and boot up. But there are a few things to smooth out. Such as, I have no IMEI number now and the build is C900, also the bootloader is modified.
To get it to boot I had to use DC- Phoenix to flash a factory firmware(Chinese) which I had to pay for. Then I flashed a stock vie-l09c432b181 ROM over the top.
To repair the IMEI I'll have to use HCU, which I'll have to pay for as well. But that's ok. If I can get my original IMEI back, I can use the original unlock code I got earlier this year, otherwise I'll have to get a new one based on a new IMEI.
I can repair the bootloader and region code using twrp etc. so that's not a problem.
I'm actually using the phone to write his reply, so I can at least use it.
Once I have it all 100% working I'll try to put together a full step by step.
Cheers.
Well, I have a working phone. But, it'snot stable. Having trouble with mobile connection, sms, mms, 4g etc not staying connected. So wont be doing any write-ups just yet.
Not until it's stable.
I'm wanting to return it to complete stock now. And that requires trying to find an oeminfo file for C706 (New Zealand).
Will add more as I get there. Sorry.
I had the same problems. All I did is updated the phone with the firmware you want via Twrp . Be warned that it will replace the recovery back to stock. Also clear the cache and etc.
I had a similar issue with SRK tool, bootlooping, won't flash new firmwares, lost all the stock apps and diagnostic tools.
I'm now stuck on a TEST-KEYS build with no NFC or Bluetooth.
My solution was to throw the piece of junk in a drawer, forget about it and I went and bought a Pixel XL instead - a phone that is properly supported and gets updates quickly.
After much messing and a headache I finally got to c432b370
And everything back to normal

update ASUS TF701T (k00c) android to latest version

Hi All.
I trust you well. I was wondering if I could request your assistance with updating my TF701T to a new version of android. I have tried many methods and none has worked. I am actually more confused now as to where to start and what to download and install. :silly:
If possible maybe direct me where I could get a step by step guide with the links to the correct downloads/procedure.
I imported the pad from USA to South Africa and barely used it.
Kind Regards
Rob
(h-tee-tee-pee-s) androidbiits.com/root-asus-transformer-pad-tf701t-easily/
probably use the versions of magisk + twrp that are linked at the site, as they are tested with that hardware -- the latest versions may not work. i do not own that particular device and am not a programmer -- just trying to help you out. search the web for info if anything is confusing in the instructions -- i can't really walk you through it, but the person at that site may be able to help you out if you get stuck.
you'll need to connect the asus pad to a computer, so you'll need the usb data cable & adb installed on the computer.
you will likely also need open gapps to get the play store + apps working. select processor type, android version, then variant. you can find it here ==> (h-tee-tee-pee-s) opengapps.org <== but i'm not sure how long that will be functional, as hosting is apparently migrating to sourceforge.
please note that there are no w's in either address mentioned previously.
here's an explanation of gapps ==> (h-tee-tee-pee-s + w's) androidfreeapks.com/apk/download-gapps-for-android/
...and there are also download links for various variations at that last address too. cheers!
you will not be able to install *the latest* version of android (it's just plain not out there as a mod for a device this old) but you *can* get something a bit newer than the stock version on it.
best of luck!
one last thing (pertaining to the very first thing you have to do) is unlock the bootloader.
(h...s + w's) asus.com/us/Tablets/The_New_ASUS_Transformer_PadTF701T/HelpDesk_Download/
you will find the utility to do so at the above site. select Android, then under "Utilities"
click "See All Downloads" - therein, the 2nd thing from the bottom in that section is the unlock tool,
which says: Unlock Device App. V1.o (there's only one thing with that name. size is 448.82 kb)
and it will only work from the stock Android version, which i assume is still functional on your device.
Magisk is apparently a newer replacement for SuperSU, which doesn't flag the system as altered...
therefore you *may not* need to install Gapps if using Magisk - that seems logical to me, but i am not certain.
thanks for the assistance Dorkus.........this is killing me....but I will keep the faith and try again
I am trying myself and cannot get the unlock tool to work, performed wipe data reset without google account and still "network error occurred" . Android version 4.4.2

Same here. I tried to contact Asus but no hope... We're completely blocked unless they do something? No other way to unlock?
greetings all, it is i, dorkus, of the house of mallorcus. haha. my name is actually reni.
xda keeps locking me out for some reason. i've now created 2 accounts (3 including the one from which this comment is posted) one even with a dedicated e-mail address just for this, but if i try to log in with either one, i get some "invalid" whatever message. admins: what have i said that was grossly incorrect? those links may not be presented in absolutely the most coherent way, but they're the best reasonable explanations of the procedure involved that i could find with about an hour or 2 of research, which i did because of intending to get one of these devices myself (which has now occurred! yay). besides that, who else with greater experience has chimed in on this thread? yes, i've reset my password, on both accounts. after i do so, both times: same "invalid" message. it's wasted over an hour of my time, when i'm just trying to help these people. it's highly annoying & if it continues, well, they'll just have to go it on their own.
to the point:
as luck would have it,
i was able to acquire one of these devices, still in superb condition, for a great deal from ebay. i have been in contact with Asus support & the word is: it's an EOL product, so the unlock servers have been shut down & there is currently no recourse end users have for unlocking their devices. i feel it's doubtful that they'll fire up a server again, but maybe we can pester them enough to develop a fastboot unlock tool? it sure would have been nice if it worked like that in the first place, but oh well, like the song says:
you can't always get what you want.
i will surely let you all know if am able to make any progress on unlocking my TF701T.
footnote: i also have a TF700 model which is in fact unlocked, has TWRP installed, and is running Android 5.1.1 {zombie-pop} which works a bit better than the Cyanogen mod flavor that it came to me with: somewhat improved user experience, maybe a little snappier too, but speed improvement is fairly minimal. most importantly, almost all of my apps work on it - a few don't even have an installer for Android 4 at the Play Store. the 701 is noticeably more responsive than the 700 model, even running 4.2.2 - the main issue with it for me is not being able to run all of my apps, some of which are purchased. i'd probably sell the 700 if i could get everything on the 701. oh well. it's an excellent reader + portable video viewing device even at stock. it's definitely worth what i paid in the condition received, but it'd be even better if i could unlock the bootloader & get a newer version of Android on it! i could possibly even be so happy that i'd float a couple bux Tim Duru's way, the guy primarily responsible for porting Android 6+7 (the latter of which apparently does not have a working camera) to this device.
footnote #2: the first day i got the 701, i tried to do a firmware update (proper region, latest available. full battery charge. the battery in the one i picked up is in fantastic condition, the thing is practically brand new + functions nicely... but now Asus won't let me unlock it, even though it's well out of warranty! grrrrr) which crashed mid-way & then it proceeded to get into an update / crash boot loop. i was pretty sad for a while, but did not give up & found a way to restore the original firmware (which turned out to be a very minor upgrade) from the SD card, thanks to information in a post here in the xda forums. that post is the link which follows. my thing would still go into fastboot (albeit slightly corrupted) + recovery mode, which enabled an SD card firmware flash to happen {...and lo, my little slab of Jelly Bean was resurrected...} so i did not require the NvFlash tool at all... but it's still there at the provided links in that thread.
to summarize the procedure:
1) format an SD card to fat32
2) download the appropriate firmware from Asus [**please note the region: if you flash the firmware from a wrong region onto your device, you will -hard- brick it + will then be required to use the NvFlash tool**]
3) un-zip the firmware (not completely, just remove nesting - so you have only one zip file)
4) rename the one remaining zip file: t4_sdupdate.zip
5) put that file on the root directory of SD card, then into the tablet (while turned off)
6) invoke recovery mode (power + vol down) & choose the recover [RCK] box (hit volume up, while it's the selected of the 3 choices) and from there the firmware update happens automatically. you can apparently upgrade to any official firmware by this method, but **cannot** downgrade... so i'd suggest leaving it at 4.2.2 until we are 100% sure that there are zero bootloader unlock options, because apparently the unlock tool, from what i understand, only works from the original 4.2.2
without further ado:

it's now a few hours later from my original post, near bedtime for me, and the xda gods let me log into this account to make this edit... and it's even allowing URLs now! will wonders never cease? not sure what the problem was earlier, but it was quite annoying. anyway, if it lets me log into the account with the dedicated xda e-mail address, that's the one i'll use in future. username is renigade.
