Hi there, i've got an xperia z with official firmware, kernel and recovery.
It's running on 4.1.2 now but it downloaded an update which is 4.2.2 I guess. When I try to install it it fails, is this because my bootloader is unlocked?
Do I have to relock it using Flashtool?(without ftf file)
Does relocking it erases data? (like when you unlock it)
Can I safely use the ota?
Thanks in advance broski's

Hi there,
I have an unlocked bootloader running CM10.1.
Is it possible to return to stock and receive updates OTA or via PC Companion from Sony?
Can I keep my unlocked bootloader and root?
Thanks,
Chester
To go back to stock just flash a stock FTF via flashtools.
You need to relock bootloader to be able to use OTA or PC companion to update. You risk bricking your phone if you try updating with an unlocked bootloader.

heres what i did!
took a stock ftf!
.434 to be precise!
flashed only kernel and unchecked all!
after that i pressd the BLU option and chose relock!
then i flashed the stock ftf as a whole!
wiped data and all!
PS i wiped data while flashing kernel too..that is important!
then after flashing i booted the device!
and restored my ta.img
!
then i flashed a stock rom via sony update service!
and i was successful!

Hello,
I've got new Xperia Z with 10.4.B.0.569 firmware on it. I can't find solution to root device with locked bootloader. I can unlock bootloader then root phone, but first I would like to backup TA partition, but I can't backup this partition because phone must be rooted first! I can't flash custom recovery too because of locked bootloader.
Is any solution for this problem? Thanks for any advice!
If you want to backup your TA partition, you will have to downgrade to 4.2.2 and root.
There is currently no way to root 569 after you have flashed it without unlocking your bootloader.

Thank You for advice. Is there any difference between downgrade firmware and flashing other firmware using flashtool? I mean can I download stock, previous firmware, flash it using flashtool on device with locked bootloader?
Yes, use Flashtool to flash an earlier firmware.

Thank You, everything works fine, topic can be closed.
Just a quick question, I am using the leaked 4.3 firmware with unlocked bootloader.
Will I be able to flash the upcoming official 4.3 firmware via flashtool? will the bootloader become locked again?
Sorry for the noob question.
Yes you can flash the ftf with no problems - bootloader will not be re-locked. I excluded flashing of the kernel and unticked wipe data in flashtool so that I retained the leaked kernel (with Cwm) and all of my user data. Have had no issues so far.
so after flashing the stock rom, I will still have my bootloader unlocked.
thanks for your answer. :good:
Hi guys,
I have just rooted my new Sony Xperia Z (Android 4.2.2) and I would like to upgrade to Android 4.3.
I was wondering if there was anyway to get the update without loosing my root access?
I am pretty unexperienced at all this stuff. I've heard that "flashing" the 4.3 firmware keeps the root access?
Thanks,
-Lambo
Just flash a prerooted 4.3 through cwm and your root is preserved, just like that

If your bootloader is locked just update it over the air. If your bootloader is unlocked flash a prerooted Rom via Cwm or twrp.
Just flashing a ftf file via flashtool wI'll make you lose root

Thanks guys for the responses. Does anyone know where I can find a pre-rooted ROM?
There are several in the development section.

You cannot use PCCompanion with an unlocked bootloader
Also, if you flashed a FTF in flashtool then you are on a stock ROM

Kindly tell me process to relock bootloader..i have unroot z1 on 4.4
restore the TA backup you made before unlocking.
Use the same tool you used to make the backup
