Hi guys,
ive had my Z1 for 2 weeks now and it seems like im not having much luck with the battery life. Ive seen the topic where others have shared there battery life and im not getting anything close to those. On average I use my phone for dolphin browser, whatsapp and instagram as well as calling/texting. I know my phone doesnt seem to go into deep sleep much but I cannot work out what it is thats keeping it awak. Ive attache some screenshots from BBS.
Can anyone help and give me some pointers on what it could be? Really dont want to have to factory reset the phone and start fresh again.
Thanks
Yeah too many Wakelocks... Turn of all your keyboard sounds +vibrations in sound settings + turn off google now... Also turn off all the locations settings + GPS etc when not using it... battery life will go up ^^^^

Ive tried turning location settings off, doesnt help at all. I dont use google now, dont know if its running in the background cos ive never set it up. Keyboard sounds are off and gps is only ever turned on when I use maps.
Any other tips on what I can do?
I don't understand you have 8 hours using and still have 49% power left. should your battery normal?!
mine looks more bad than you but I feel ok.
I have google now gmail hotmail hangouts gps sometime bluetooth all on.
Wow, there's something causing serious wakelocks... Can you try freezing/disabling google maps? com.google.android.gsm is the one, and I believe it's something with google maps... Try disabling/freezing/uninstalling it to at least see if that helps...

Get this app DS Battery saver... It forces deep sleep... You can manually add programs which don't cause wakelocks and hence won't be terminated when screen is off.. My battery life was much better with this!

THe phone has been on for 8 hrs, but ive only used it for just under 2 hrs (check screen on time). The rest of the time it should be in deep sleep but mine prefers to sit at 300hz and chew up battery.

I have just frozen it now, with titanium, and will report back the results at the end of the day.

I will install this now. Hopefully I maybe able to work out what is causing this wakelock by manually adding programs one by one.
Thanks for the helps guys

Thank you for this suggestion buddy, Ive frozen Gmaps and it seems my phone is no longer draining battery. My phone will last a lot longer now and I dont have many google wakelocks. :good:
i dont know why so many website (gsmarena...hint hint) or some of you saying the Z1 battery life is terrible, my z1 battery life can outlast almost twice my galaxy s3, and outloast my htc one, i have been using my phone screen time on for 4hours 53 mins with 14 hours standby i still have 15% left, browsing (wifi on most time, gps off, location service on, bluetooth off, data on), emails, txt, little videos, i dont use stamina mode, it seems drains more battery on than have it off

Hey guys --
I did a search and while there is much discussion of deep sleep problems, there is no clear way I could easily find to identify the cause.
I have CM7.20, the MiRaGe latest build on my NC, with the settings listed in my thread (see the sig). Recently I noticed that it is not entering into deep sleep, indicated by losing ~20% battery while it is asleep overnight in about 8 hrs. Battery results tell me it's "WiFi" taking like 30% of the battery, which seems quite odd, since I had it set to turn off WiFi while the screen off unless connected to the charger.
Any clues on how to identify the problem with deep sleep?
As for usage, I am using my NC 99% of the time with the following apps:
Moon+ Reader (probably 70% of time)
YouVersion Bible app (most of the rest of the time)
Dolphin Browser HD (maybe 2% of the time)
Enhanced Email and MailDroid - very occasionally but they are checking mail on 15 min intervals when wifi is on.
I have a ton of other apps installed but I almost never use them except for these.
Any help on how to determine what is causing the NC to not go into deep sleep will be immensely helpful. I have a 2-week Euro business trip coming up next month and I would really like to solve this before then.
Thanks!
Better Battery Stats might help. Try turning off sync before bed and see if you still lose 20%. If so, it's definitely some app that's the culprit. Grab something that will tell you what program is using data and how much/how often and you should be able to isolate it pretty quick.

OK, but it should be turning off wifi, and therefore sync for ALL apps, when it is asleep. Can an app override this setting? That's my guess, is some app is doing this. How can I ID that?

Like envygreen said use that app to track wakelocks. Even if wifi is off, some app may be applying a wakelock to try to sync.

Alright, I'm on it
So last night I finished charging it and read for a couple of minutes, then put it to sleep to see how it went overnight.
My Wi-Fi sleep policy is set to turn off wifi when the display is off.
When I got up this morning I checked it and it had lost over 10% battery over night, and I checked BetterBatteryStats and I think it is going into deep sleep but maybe not shutting off wifi.
I have attached the screenshots from BetterBatteryStats, and I think I need help interpreting them and finding the cause.
ok, so here I am replying to my own thread... If I am reading this right it seems to be looking like my wifi is on the entire time, not only when the screen is on. Is this the right way to read this? In this case, it looks like "Wi-Fi sleep policy" being set to "When screen turns off" is not actually working... right?

It sure looks that way to me too. It says wifi on 8 hours. Did you try toggling the setting a few times? Also you are on Mirage and he may have done something in his tinkering that messed that setting up.

yeah I did toggle the setting on and off, and in fact before I had it set to "On during sleep if plugged" for a long time, recently changed it, thinking maybe this was the cause.
But it does appear that maybe this is what is killing the battery. There doesn't appear to be any network activity when the screen is off, just looks like the wifi radio is powered up.
Any advice?

Hmm. that seems like an extreme step, but maybe ... wonder how much of the snappiness I will lose.
EDIT: OK I switched to CM7.2 stable. Nice I didn't seem to lose any settings. Let's see how it goes. Thanks for the advice, I'll report back here if it still does the same thing.
Also uninstalled beautiful widgets... figured maybe that could be causing an issue.
Oh, and I probably had a SOD kernel patch applied... perhaps that was the problem too
guess I should change only one variable at a time for a good test, but in reality I just want to get it fixed and not really diagnose it.
I was having a similar problem...what I did was run the V6 supercharger script, granted i am running CM9 atm but it took care of any problems I had with battery life and wifi signal.
Question: does having WiFi on keep the phone from going into deep sleep at all?
I have found that my phone is not going into deep sleep. I checked what is holding wake locks, and the time with wake locks is way less than the time the phone has the screen off, so it appears it is not deep sleeping, even though there are not wake locks.
I have an extended battery, so I get good battery life, but always interested in improving it. But I also have this thought that if I have to turn everything off, and only synch when I turn the screen on, that is not ideal either.

Get CpuSpy free on play store. It will tell you exactly how much deep sleep you are getting.
Having wifi on all the time should not prevent deep sleep. Only when things use it does it come out of deep sleep.

I have CPUSpy Free, and that is how I know I am not getting deep sleep. My challenge now is to identify why.
OK, so it seems that CM7.20 stable definitely fixes things. I didn't flash the SOD fix, so maybe the SOD fix was preventing deep sleep before, or maybe something else in the kang build was preventing deep sleep with wifi on when the screen is on.
However the better battery stats still seems to say my wifi is never actually going off. I am not sure I am interpreting the results correctly. It looks like the wifi is on all the time even though it's set to turn off when the screen is off. But I can let the NC sit on my night stand overnight and lose only a couple of % where it was like 10+% before. I still think my problem was due to some app that updated and not the ROM because the problem started weeks after I last updated the ROM.
This RILJ wakelock on the dialer seems to be impossible to remove. I've tried everything from disabling all apps, turning off the phone and turning it back on with airplane mode, TWO factory resets, turning off all GPS and location services, and even shutting off my mobile data. I even did all of those steps at once and to no avail.
I'm running stock right now but I seriously can not use this phone when this wakelock is disrupting my phone every damn second. I don't know if this is the right section to post this, but is anyone else experiencing this issue? Is there even hope?
I've tried what feels like everything. I feel like this will drive me crazy to the point where I will just exchange the phone and claim battery problems. Again, sorry if this is the wrong section to post this in, and I feel like such a dirty leech making a help post as my first post. This is my first android phone and I have a lot of experience with java but I need to feel secure with my new phone before I start delving into development.
Are you talking about a wakelock you see in a battery monitoring program? Or an error that keeps popping up?

It's a normal wakelock? It's your radio. Turn on airplane mode, and you'll lose the 'wakelock'

Yes I understand this, but the wakelock shouldn't be going off over 2000 times, right? I mean, I'm totally new to android but I've never seen this wakelock before. I'm in NYC and usually have great reception, right now I'm getting 4G LTE 3-5 bars constantly. Could it be a hardware issue with my radio?

OK, so before I answer that, what sort of battery are you getting? What's your screen on time?
All android phones have this wakelock. It's not a hardware issue, 100%
Oh, I'm sorry but I also thought you meant a different wakelock xD RILJ wakelock is caused by having a lot of location services on, turn these off (Google Maps, Latitude, Weather constantly refreshing)

Here is the battery I was getting (can't post links yet, imgur is very safe): imgur_com/a/jCBG4 Thanks for the speedy responses btw.
I have essentially every single service off, only google's anonymous location service which is required for the weather app to work. All the sync stuff I can't turn off is set to refresh at the lowest intervals.

I didn't have this wakelock for those pictures. This thing is sapping my battery life causing an extra 1-2% drain an hour, which adds up quickly. It also doesn't let the phone enter deep sleep if I remember correctly.
Hey I have just bought HTC One 2 days ago. Compared to my old Sensation XE battery life completly sucks. I usually use phone without battery saver, on auto brightness and with Wi-Fi/3g turned on only on demand. Today 8 hours after unplugging phone from the charger I only have 26%. Screen was turned on for 2 hours and 45 minutes only and Wi-Fi worked for 3 hours and 46 mins. I might also say that I did not charge my One before usage to 100% as HTC advised. Was that very crucial? Do you think that phone might be broken or I should just give him time to settle baterry better.
That's sounds like what I get. I turn off mobile data when using WiFi and vice versa. I always use power saver unless I'm 3D gaming. Which is only on the weekends.
I've had mine for 3 months now.
I've seen people get 7:00 screen time on stock unrooted.
I think my battery's broken too. I can barely reach 3 hours of screen time. With 2 hours I get like 11 maybe 12 hours of on time. Something's wrong with our phones...
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Your battery stats seem on par with me and the OP. Seems that only a select few phones get decent battery life.
My kernel (android os) has been in the 25-35% range,it has never been that high before.
battery life lousy
I get pretty horrible drain too. I charged it to nearly full around 7:30 last night. I took about 2 minutes of video, sent one text, and checked my email 3 times. After that I went to sleep and the phone sat idle. At 6:30 this morning, I'm down to 9%.

Wow, that's real bad.. When my phone is off during night maybe 7% is gone. Then again I'm rooted and use greenify aswell as battery doctor if that has any affect.
On screen time seems like my battery drains pretty fast too though. After 2 hours of music and surfing and watching videos I guess atleast 40% would be gone.
My battery life became horrible, too. My phones loses 4% per unused hour. No App seems to be responsible for that drain. Flightmode or powersaving mode ain't making a difference. I hope we'll find a solution for our drain.

@Racingmatt your power management services is on for quite a bit. do you have alarms.? i would bet that you either that maps location enabled or something of the sort. cause you also have NLPcollector on for around 40 minutes which is a bit much. also i would turn off GPS if your not actively using it.
@Rachorid how are you setting up your wifi? is it set to always be on? or set to turn off when screen off? you have alot of wifi wake. might be due to that. i know when i'm at home my wifi actively pings all devices connected which will force wake up my phone. yea its a bit annoying but i live with it. otherwise i just keep my phone plugged in.
if you both can get some SS of alarms i can give you a better idea. and when you SS the alarms make sure to click on the ones with the most wake lock so i can see the secondary screen that shows what the actual wakelock command is happening.

Here are the latest stats. As you can see many Google wakes.. removing Maps/Now/GMail/turning of Location (a few days ago) had no impact on my drain. The 2nd app on Partial Wakelocks was used actively.
I also disabled Wifi for about 2 hours.. no impact, too. Flightmode also had no impact (a few days ago).

The reason I didnt give you a alarm ss is because I didn't have any alarms when I went to the alarms section. I also had all locations services including GPS enabled but I just now disabled GPS but left network location enabled I'll give you a screenshot later so you can see the differences

I had awesome battery life a month ago with Wifi always on, auto. brightness and every app on hourly sync. (I have my phone since 7th of march) Sometimes I didn't lost a percent over night (8 hours) and I just don't know what it could be because I didn't install another app and no app seems to be responsible for that stanby drain. My on-screen battery life is still good. It also doesn't matter which ROM or kernel I'm using.
Here is my latest stats after 12 hours with 5 minutes of GPS use (turned off when not using)and network location on all the time with 3g/4g on all the time(turns off after a period of inactivity) . I can't give you a alarm stat because I'm not rooted.
Lithium-Ion batteries used in today's smartphones need atleast 10 cycles to show optimum power
so hold on until 2 weeks then you will get the full performance
i get 2 days of battery on my HTC One (since i dont have internet on my Simcard)
its 2G connection and auto Brightness and switched bloatwares off
i use Android Revolution HD 12.2

with normal use 3.6%/h is pretty reasonable. how much screen on time was that including?
So the poor battery life on my Note 4 might have more to do with screen brightness than I would have expected. Unfortunately, most people posting their SOT's aren't doing it in a very scientific way, so it's hard to know what we should expect from these devices.
Here are my battery test results using PCMark for Android https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.futuremark.pcmark.android.benchmark
In one test, I put the screen brightness to 100% and the results were pretty dismal. In the second test, I ran it at 50% brightness, which is brighter than the Note 2 at full and the results were much better.
I use Auto brightness during the day, which might explain my poor battery life, but I'd love to know what others score on PCMark are (it does run for 5+ hours!). I do keep my background BLACK, as well as using black themes on everything I can - for apps that only have white backgrounds, I use AutomateIt to invert the colors automatically. I would have thought these black backgrounds would do more, but it really comes down to brightness it seems.
I'm using an Exynos N910U model and left wifi connected while doing this test - 3 google accounts are synced on my device.

thanks for tests im using my exynos version on auto brightness and generally get 6 hours SOT. i saw on alot of people s stats and people who has problems generally has google play services on their battery usage list and it definetly shouldnt be at there... its probably about location reports to google every1 should disable it from location settings it doesnt break anything.

Yes, location can be an issue, but I think that impacts standby time more than SOT. Currently I've done the following to help with location-related issues:
- used lion tamer (soon to be called amplify) to slow down NLP wakelocks.
- set my location settings to powersave mode
- setup AutomateIt to turn on GPS when I'm in Google Maps (I'm usually plugged into the car outlet, so battery isn't a concern while navigating.
- Greenify stuff like Google search, Maps and several others.
I like and use Location Reporting, so disabling it outright isn't an option. My standby usage is very good at usually less than 1% an hour and my wakelocks keep my device awake usually less than 6%, but I'm still working to lower that number.

Before I started tweaking, I was getting around 6%-9% drain PER HOUR! Disabling stuff without root only got me so far, then the xposed tweaks and Titanium Backup had to be used.

like i said i dont know whats wrong for some people its probably something you installed(skype maybe) or mostly about location reporting. even last night i left my phone at 90% when i get it this morning after like 10 hours it was on 88% like i said earlier wifi was connected no power saving etc just normal idle time nothing special.

I was testing without any apps installed (just whatever I used to record battery consumption) and it was crazy high. Then I started adding accounts and apps, tweaking and I got my standby time to be much lower, but SOT leaves much to be desired. I'm going to try using the manual brightness and see if there are any differences - I often find auto brightness to be too bright or too dim! No "sweet spot" found! LOL
Greeny can also help but may need root
I'd suggest changing the settings for your Battery Monitor Widget app. AFAICS it polls every 10 minutes so a wakelock occurs every ten minutes to save the data. Use something like an hour and see what happens. Also would highly recommend BetterBatteryStats, a free version is available here for members.

I'll try that, although that might only improve wakelocks, not screen on time.
BBS never worked right for me. Always complaining that it couldn't retrieve the stats or falling back on something else.

Wait, with the screen off? Then you have something horribly wrong with your device. Mine did a few % over a night. With nothing done to the phone to conserve battery at all. Snapdragon, though. With the update.
I loose only 2% for 7h of standby last night.
We are seeing a trend I think, I noticed that it's mainly us 910U users or exnyos users complaining about battery life. So it must be something in the 910U rom?
I've got a 910F and I get 6 hours screen on time maximum :/

Doesn't happen now that I've rooted and applied my standard tweaks, but I tried a factory reset to see if I could correct the high standby drain and was not successful without these tweaks.

I have 910f and i got same issues with my batt.
i've tried clean system, root, custom rom. Battery is always draining higher than some people.
As i said in other thread: some people have an issue, some have great battery life. And nobody knows why
Maybe it's the guys who keep it stock and don't root, custom rom and "tweak" that get the good battery life.
Delete it pls.

I'm on stock, but without tweaks I can't even go the day on standby. [emoji31]

The "Phone idle" process in this phone is drainage a lot of battery, about 20% average. I understand for Android 6 Google have stricter requirements to list battery stats, but since this device don't have that yet I don't really know what's really causing it.
It's not a big deal yet because the battery life is very good on it's own, so I still have plenty of battery after the end of the day. For now I will try disabling all the gesture features and see if that's the culprit.
I've heard that if you have a lousy LTE signal where you spend most of your time, your phone constantly looks for a better signal and that process drains the battery. How's your signal strength? Maybe try airplane mode and see if that makes a difference.
battery drain in idle is at least 5-6%. noticed that i had battery up in full charge before going to bed and by the morning it was at 94%. no calls/messages/alarms/notifications during that time. however all background sync tasks were running
Not sure whats causing this . Only getting 4 hours sot. Main reason i got it for my work phone because of battery life. Any tips would be great. I have sync on for work email. And lte and almost anything automatic. Had a moto for work before and got 6 hours of sot

I noticed when I turned on Black Screen Gestures the phone drained a lot faster. I turned it off and disabled a bunch of apps and this is what I got so far.
I am getting very good battery life. Stock everything except for root. Black screen gesture on, google now disabled.

When I rooted my phone, I had to "factory reset" (formatted /data and /cache). I am using sim slot 2 only since I don't want to take the battery out to swap sim if needed. I am not using an SD card.
this is mine . do you see all the Awake . its by android system and idle
this is from the battery monitor app
That's strange.. Something is wrong with that graph for sure.. Have you tried using your phone in safe mode?

how do you disable google now anyways. i only have google now cards turn off i cant find setting to completely disable it.
is this even accurate
1000 mah? instead of 3150mah
I am rooted, I have Greenify, Xposed, and Amplify installed This combination seems to make sure the phone goes in to deep sleep now. Using CPU Spy I was able to see that my phone was not going in to deep sleep very much.

You can disable Google Now by dialing the Google search app. Or if you have a back up, you can delete the priv-app/velvet folder.
I am getting big time phone drain and I don't even have a SIM card in yet. Battery graph says the phone is awake the whole time. I had black screen gestures enabled but I'm gonna try to disable those.
My phone standby is about 10% drop per day. Dual SIM standby, one AT&T , one TMO.
It drained mine as well. What I was able to do in order to offset it was twofold Xposed and 'prevent running' app. Then simply a matter of disabling everything you can think of that will not interfere with booting. I can list what worked for me as far as apps and system apps if you'd like. I have total 57 and testing tomorrow more. Just over half are system apps like play store play services google+, etc...
Doing that saved almost enough to offset near 25-30% average. Idle as yours. Next I simply adjusted my habits with keeping GPS off, WiFi on though even sleeping.
THE biggest issue is Adups spyware comes pre installed on it. It collects every letter typed, site seen, text sent..All of it. Using terminal emulator and pm disable works until reboot. Freezing it seems to trigger more hidden like com.fw.upgrade.fota.sysoper to collect. I tell you as well many claim to remove it I have tried 12 ways. It is a battle and 1 I contacted BLU over this to no avail. Second BLU phone and last. Huawei, Samsung and ZTE also have this installed for this phone they are (at least the known ones)
com.adups.fota
com.adups.fota.sysoper
com.fw.upgade.fota.sysoper
There are more but offhand I forget them. *.quicksearch something and what is not stock browser but similarly named.
*.sysoper anything is assuredly as are anything with adups in the name. Use Mixplorer and sqlitedb viewer and go to /data/data find the folders and look at the db's it is everything. Sent to a server in Shanghai every 72 hours or less
