Switch to TWRP...
No power button necessary

The vivid is extremely easy to disassemble, remove the plastic frame, and use your finger or a paperclip to press on the actual power button.
try to do
adb reboot bootloader
It takes you directly to fastboot and you can flash whatever you want without the power button.
Actually you need the power button to make selections in fastboot...

Hi, i have amon_ra + cyanogenmod + unlocked latest versions. I returned to original ERD79 and it's Ok, but then i doing something wrong... Downloaded ere27_from_erd79.zip renamed it to update.zip and flash it from default bootloader... After that i cann't boot my n1 and can't enter into bootloader. Vol down + power also n't work... I brick my n1 =\ Any solution to put on my phone?
Have you tried fastboot amon RA recovery back on?
If you can get to the x, then I don't think your phone is a brick

I can't enter to Amon Ra, how can i do it?
Have you tried holding down the trackball while you power up?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
Yes I try it, power + trackball, power + vol down, power + vol up - nothing
Does your PC see it, if you connect via USB?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
adb devices - nope
flashboot devices - nope
Ouch!

Hmm if PC don't see phone, you might be in trouble
If can't do nothing, maybe ring HTC, pay for them to repair, have to be cheaper than buying a new one

Send it back under warranty, and see what they say?

Here's my dilemma. I flashed CM7 RC4 to my n1 last night, now it is stuck in a loop of the boot animation and will not proceed any further. I'd boot into the bootloader, but my power button's been dead for a month, ADB won't recognize my phone to reboot-bootloader. Am I boned?
Pull the battery, connect your phone to a charger then hold the trackball while re-inserting the battery. Make take a few attempts, but it should eventually boot into fastboot. You could also hold volume down instead of the trackball if you just want hboot...

Now i'm getting the battery indicator flashing green/orange. I can mess with it until I eventually get it charging solid. Is there any quick workaround for this?
Now I'm in fastboot. Is there a way to get into recovery without power button?
Is your bootloader unlocked?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA Premium App
yes. indeed it is. If it helps, I have the latest CWM installed.
Place a copy of your recovery image in your sdk tools folder, connect via fastboot and type:
fastboot boot name-of-recovery.img
(use the real name of your recovery image)

I knew that. I'm a tard. Thanks.

What steps should I take to force recovery mode if I have an EVO? I've tried holding volume up while power but it vibrates three times and does nothing. I'm stuck in the boot loader screen.
*-**EDIT
I was able to fix it doing a hard reset.
Turn the power off. If your HTC EVO 4G is frozen, pull the battery out and reinsert it
Hold the Volume Down button
Press and release the Power button
You are now presented with a menu that allows for Fastbook, Recovery, Clear Storage, and Simlock
Select Clear Storage by pressing the Volume Down button
Press and release the Power button
Now simply confirm your decision: Volume Up for YES and Volume Down for NO
Hello. I am planning on buying a Captivate from a friend. He is selling it very cheap because the power button does not function. He still uses it everyday (I now wonder what's the procedure to turn it on...)
I know that in order to change roms and enter recovery (or load a custom one) you have to enter the phone in download mode. Will it be possible to do this without a power button?
Many thanks
Yep. ---- ADB, Terminal Emulator, and Jig. Although u do not need the power button to get into Download mode. And as for Recovery, once u r in there u should be able to navigate and select with the capacitive buttons.

My power button is spotty as well and I did not know this. Ill definitely try it out. Always struggle with recovery.
KK4 based Corn Kernel v7.0A for sure is able to be navigated in the recovery via the capacitive buttons.

It is me or it's really hard to get into recovery on the new 4.2.2 through the phone?!
I was so excited to get it on my phone that I forgot to flash root. The power button turns on the phone too fast to catch the vol down. Has anyone gotten through ? Hahaha

For some it is. Happened to me. i had bootloop. Had to connect it to a windows computer (im usually on mac) and erase cache via adb..
Yea I'm nowhere near a computer so I'm gonna have to wait so yea. I can probably do it if I do it really fast. Another thing I noticed that a simple press of the power doesn't turn it on like before too

Try powering of the phone then press and hold the vol up button and then press the power button whilst holding vol up.
This should hopefully allow access to recovery.

If you can`t get into fastboot mode or boot up there is nothing you can do anymore and you have to turn it in for repair imo. Maybe someone else knows more about his but i can`t see a solution based on your info.
Keep your finger pressed on the power button and the lights will flash still keep it pressed they then stop flashing and phone will turn off about ten to fifteen seconds holding should do it. Once they go out let go of power button and press volume down button keeping it pressed until boot screen appears

What did you do to unroot it to stock?
Take your phone and place it under a bright light and hold the power button down for 15 sec till it vibrates then boot into bootloader
