Hey Guys,
thats my first post here, so hello everybody!
Its really a great forum, thats helping me a lot to get into the android stuff! Until I bought my Xperia Z1 (C6903 T-Mobile Branded), I only use iPhones but I´m really happy that I´m changed to android!
But today I rooted my Z1 with Kingo Android ROOT. After that I have done a TA Backup and then a full System Backup with Titanium Backup. But after that I´ve noticed, that after a reboot my Xperia Home launcher is lost. I always have to restore it with Titanium Backup, which is really annoying me. Is there any solution for this problem?
In the moment I think a complete restore would be the best. Can I flash a unbranded generic FTF File with the Flashtool or am I forced to flash the T-Mobile FTF? Is there any other Way to restore the original Firmeware, for example with sony companion? Should I unroot the Device first?
Sorry for the many questions, but in this Points I´m really unsure. I hope you can help a little bit.
Best regards
Marius
check your setring->apps->all->xperia home.
is this app enable? if iy has been enabled try to clear data.
or no this app, download xperia home.apk and use root explorer copy to system/app set permission rwrr then reboot.

Ok, so settings->clear data no difference! Xperia Home still not starting after a reboot. I also sometimes have an Chinese keyboard, really strange...
i think you should try to factory reset and restore aoo from titanuim backup with "app only". do not restore aop and data.

ok, I will try it! But can I also falsh the unbranded ftf with the flashtool without any problems? My Phone has a T-Mobile branding and I would be happy to get an unbranded device!
i'm not sure, becuase your phone may be lock with carrier. try to read in older post and guide to unroot.
but for me, my phone is unlock carrier i can flash other ftf ^^

Hi,
My first post here on XDA! I have a Generic NL .253 Rom (without root, BL locked) flashed on my Z. I want to downgrade it to version .434 so I can root my phone. The problem is, everytime I try to flash it with flashtool, whenever my phone boots up, I get a message saying it's upgrading NFC, then it suddenly reboots. This happens over and over (kind of like a bootloop). I have tried several .FTF files. Also, I don't want to do a clean flash, I have made several backups but I'm afraid they don't live up to my 'backup'-standards. Does anyone know a fix for this?
Thanks in advance!

Hey, thanks for you reply. Yes, I can. I reflashed my old .253 Generic NL software in between trying other .434 files and it still works fine.
The problem with the .434 is that my phone does boot, but it never properly boots, you know what I mean? It keeps on resetting, and displaying the 'NFC updating' message. Any ideas?

I'm actually having the exact same issue. I would like to downgrade so I can regain root. I have a feeling to fix the boot loop we would have to wipe the phone. I'm just deciding if I want to try that yet as it sucks redoing everything and the phone is running so good.

Yeah exactly, the backup options are fairly limited since I haven't rooted it yet, and I kinda feel there should be a way around this loop
without having to wipe all my data..
i suggest wipe. it should work when downgrading.. i hope it will work on you both as i downgrade my z after updating to .253 and i dont have any bootloop issues...
Which backup do you think is the best? Pc companion/the pre installed 'backup and recovery' app/Carbon/adb full backup? Does any of these guarantee a full backup? I want to be sure before I try..

.434 can be rooted either bin4ry or doomlords method.. and .253 can achieve root using nuts method or wawyed..
So it's possible to root .253 without having rooted before? Did not know that, I will look into that, thanks! This must be new since like today or yesterday, haha

Pre installed backup and recovery works great if you're not rooted. Just make sure to check all boxes to backup. Store backup on computer, wipe, flash, root 253 then restore.

I had exactly the same problem and the only solution was downgrade to .434 with a full wipe!
Everything else I tried ended in restart because of the NFC update.
I could restore my system, because I rooted .434 after the clean install,
updated to .253 from [nut] and restored only the data partition from my last nandroid with recovery.
Then everything was as before and works fine.
But trust me, the only solution is downgrading with a full wipe! :good:
Did you try flash kernel/ otakernel from the .434 with flashtool if not try then
I will skip that update (cannot even get it from Sony PC Companion) so wait for 4.2
I dont use NFC and don't need whitebalance calibration.

Hello!
This is my first post, and I hope I'm not starting with posting a question already answered millions of times. I Tried googling and looking around on this forum, so if it is a double post I'm counting on forgiveness
I have a C6603 Xperia Z that I managed to screw up my root after updating it. After starting to miss my root I searched the web and ended up here. I used the guide called [GUIDE] [ROOT] xperia Z .253 fw [Locked&unlocked bootloader] and flashed my phone down to .434 with the file C6603_10.1.A.434 AU_Unbranded.ftf.
Wiped everything, data and chace included just to start fresh. Tried using the EasyRootingToolkit by goro_khun like the guide I found said, and it was the one I used to root my phone without any hiccups when I first bought it. Now then, here comes the hiccups that have stopped my fun this time.
It won't root my phone, and I have no clue why. The easy rooting toolkit runs just like normal, and it concludes with my phone being rooted. If I check my phone with a "root checker app" they all end up with the conclusion with my phone not being rooted. Only thing I found that changes when I run the toolkit from a fresh install of .434 is that the "bootloader unlock allowed" in the service menus changes from yes to no.
So please help a n00b with this stuff, otherwise I can't continue on my path to getting a rooted .253

Tried this method, and no luck. Only thing I see that looks out of the ordinary is that one of the steps in the root program seems to fail.
it says
"Cleaning up
rm failed for /data/local/tmp.su, No such file or directory
Ok rebooting lets hope it worked!"
(after it have installed busybox and everything, like my cut out says its when it starts to clean up).
Other then that I don't get any error messages or anything. Anyone have a good idea on what I can try? Any logs I can cut n paste to help you guys out figuring out what I'm doing wrong?
I'm using option number 3 on this root program, since it says it's the one for xperia Z, counting on that one to be the right one.

Hi there,
I recently unlocked the bootloader on my Xperia Z so i could root my phone. I want to revert back to the stock firmware originally on the phone and tried downloading what i believed to be the stock firmware and flashed the device but everytime i try to install the newly released 4.2.2 firmware, it keeps telling me that it fails as the phone has modified firmware. I have tried using the sony update service but i get the same error and really have no clue on how to rectify this. Please help as im worried ive completely messed up the phone.
TIA
Use EMMA Flashtool. Read everything and you are ready to go.
Don't use PC Companion or Sony Update Software on an unlocked device.
Thanks for the info.
I followed the instructions in the help file but everytime i run the software, my system crashes out and i cant seem to run it
Blue screen? Could be drivers issue.
You could download a stock FTF and flash it with Flashtool too. Same effect as EMMA.
It's a case of actually finding a stock ftf

I installed [TOOL]Minimal ADB and Fastboot [7-18-13] and had no problems getting fastboot to talk.
Once you're unlocked, you can flash any custom kernel and any ROM you like. There's a thread on how to unlock 4.3, but it's not for beginners. You're better off just flashing a pre-rooted ROM.
Thank you for your help. I've managed to unlock it but I ended up using flash tool as I found a guide to show how to install the required drivers for the s1 fastboot. So now I am on the hunt for roms, would you or anyone else suggest a rom that is better on battery life but still very snappy? Thank you again, I do appreciate it

Highly recommend.
Thank you very much, the minimal version looks perfect for me, but before I do install the minimal one, could you tell me how to go about creating a backup of my rom / data n stuff at the moment. Because I understand that because my bootloader is unlocked, I don't have to install a recovery? But surely it's easier to create a backup with recovery and reinstall that at a later date than to install another stock ftf and losing all my data.

I would root your current ROM, install TiBu, and use that to backup. Otherwise, you can flash a recovery and use that to do a complete backup. On your next ROM, TiBu (Pro, probably) can restore from either kind of backup. I hope you knew to backup the TA partition before unlocking the bootloader!
Hi All,
I have T-Mobile branded C6606 and have been considering rooting so that I can flash a c6603 stock ROM. I know the bootloader is locked on the device but here is my question:
If I flash a stock ROM and basically make the phone act as a 6603, will I get updates directly from Sony for example will I be able to upgrade to 4.3 or 4.4 via PC Companion or OTA ? I'm assuming this is with the bootloader remaining locked.
Also, assuming I decide to root and flash using a stock ROM are there any CONS...ie. Wifi or NFC issues ?
Thanks!

No issues. It will perform as a 6603. Only thing you will loose is wifi calling... I'm typing this from a 6606 right now on rooted 4.3 ES firmware.
You need to flash a (.67) or (.74) rom first, root it, install recovery, and then you can install a (.569) pre-rooted rom. Make sure you set your apn correctly for mms functioning.
You can use this as your final update for now:

I'm curious though, why is it that I should install the older (.67 or 74) ROM first ? I was actually planning to root, install CWM then simply find a Generic unbranded ROM to flash.

Im on existenzv5 locked bl rooted c6606 tmobile running great
So I flashed a stock 6603 ES ROM (10.31.A.2.67), been testing it and no issues so far. Happy to get rid of some of the T-Mobile bloatware.
Since 4.3 is already out for the C6603 , I was expecting an OTA or PC Companion to prompt me to update to 4.3 (shows 6603). Am I missing something here ?
I haven't rooted or done anything else apart from the ROM Flash. To be honest I don't have much desire for Custom ROMs or need Root access, just a desire to get faster updates and less bloat. If I can get a stock 4.3 on the device I may leave it like that. The most important thing for me though is to just be able to get updates.
Wondering if I should start a new thread in the QA forum or if a MOD can simply move this one.

There may or may not be an update available depending on the customization number you flashed. Either way, if you flashed a stock ftf then you will receive updates as they become available for your customization number.

Ok. Ignorance on my part. I was under the impression that the builds were generic enough that all would be eligible for updates.
The FTF I used was from this page:

Can you point me at or recommend an FTF then ? I'm going to be giving the phone to a family member in a few weeks and just want them to at least be able to get regular updates.

You can try rebooting and checking again. Did you ever perform a factory reset? If not, do it.
Also, the baseband really doesn't need to be excluded. I've seen no benefits in keeping any of the t-mobile garbage.

There will be some folder you may have to delete from PCC data because it is cached and PCC will still see your device with the old customization. It is explained in that 1st post.

I took your advice and reflashed with baseband and also did the factory reset. The baseband left me with weak LTE in areas where I normally have full bars. In the end the update still didn't show allowing me to move to 4.3. I ended up just flashing the 4.3 ES rom that you linked to and have been liking it so far.
I really would like to have a better understanding of how/why I wasn't getting the update prompts.

I actually looked into this, but at one point after flashing but didn't have any folder to delete. Also, after the last flash I connected to a brand new laptop that had never had PCC installed or seen the phone before and the result was the same. No update could be found.
I appreciate the suggestions so far, I'd love to know what else I can try though as I'd like to have the phone get regular updates independent of T-Mobile.

Here are the steps I am taking to root my tmobile c6606 on a c6603 4.3 rom. It has been unsuccesful. I would like help.
I have used flashtool-0.9.13.0-windows tool.
I use it to successfully install Xperia Z (C6603)_10.4.B.0.569_Generic ES tft.
It is fully fuctional and works with no problems.
However.
I have tried the Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v33 tool that roots the C6606 succesfully when I have the original factory rom installed.
BUT when I have this 4.3 Generic ES rom installed it will not root. It says I need to enable USB Debugging. I do that. The the phone shows it is in that mode, but the root program will not see it in that mode.
Therefore, rooting can not occur..
What do I do?
Id like to root so I can install my special apps and remove bloat.
Thanks

BUT when I have this 4.3 Generic ES rom installed it will not root. It says I need to enable USB Debugging. I do that. The the phone shows it is in that mode, but the root program will not see it in that mode.
Therefore, rooting can not occur..
What do I do?
Id like to root so I can install my special apps and remove bloat.
Thanks

You cannot root any 4.3 rom directly without unlocking the bootloader. As you have a C6606, you cannot do that.
You will have to downgrade to a 4.2.2 rom, root, then flash a prerooted 4.3 rom.
This information is readily available all over this section, so a search probably would have got you the information you needed.
