[Q] Plants vs Zombies 2 Compatibility - Moto X Q&A

So PVZ2 came out for everyone the other day, and I just tried to install it on my Moto X. From the phone I cant find it, and from the web its telling me its incompatible with with the Moto X and the Galaxy Camera (similar to the S3 in hardware). Does it really not work with our phones, or is Google Play confused like so often seems to happen?

Works on the Moto X just fine, side loaded the Australian APK (game is free to play anyway). Is it out in the US yet? Wasn't when I checked last week

i dont think its out in the US yet (if thats where you are, its where i am.) i just looked online where people are saying its "out for everyone" and found the play store link Its published by EA Swiss Sarl, which is what they publish under for europe. I just looked under the Electronic Arts publisher, which is their US publishing name, and its not there yet. So its not out in the US yet which is why it shows as imcompatible with all your devices.

I interpreted "out for everyone" as the USA too. I guess we arent "everyone" (ill make a note of that somewhere...). I guess I will wait for it to show up in the store for us. I dont want to have to start over from the Australian version when we can get it... Still strange the way they are releasing this game...

Apple dished out big bucks to EA to keep it off Android in the US, how long is yet to be seen. That is the only reason it is not here yet.

Yea, if you see a link for an EA game and it ends with 'row' that means it's for 'rest of world'. EA has this weird deal with Apple, even though they both deny it. It'll probably release in US on the 31st, or Nov 1st.

Android Market Questions/Issues/Comments

market...not working for me.
Initially, I downloaded and installed pacman and shop savvy. After the upgrade came through which put me at RC28, the market doesn't seem to work properly. When I click on the app I want, it looks as if the download is happening, but when I check download notifications, it says download unsuccessful. I've tried this on several apps...all have failed.
Heads Up - Market
In case you haven't looked lately, there are a dozen or so new apps today
and still nothing worth downloading
I second that. I am about to put the g1 up until something worth a sh*t comes out. But that's just me.
when did u get the update and did u have a choice to update or did it do it automatically,i'm just curious cuz i haven't got it yet
Did you try the download with 3G on??
If not, try it with 3G
We needed a new thread for this info?
The following morning after I got the phone.....there was a window after the unlock sequence. There did not appear to be an option, it just executed the update. I've tried both wifi and 3g....both don't work.
I noticed that I am having issues with some applications in the market. They will fail... I kept redownloading them till they finally came thru.
I haven't got the update yet. I think this is just because the market is getting soo many new applications and such it probably is having hard times with it all.

I read by Nov. 2nd it getting out there, hang in there.
As long as the software states that its a trial in the listing I dont have a problem with it. Someone will write a free version at some point. I would want to be paid for my work too
Most of the apps aren't trials, and the ones that I've seen that are thus far are clearly marked.
I don't mind, since it's not some large majority of applications that are timebombed or limited trials. You would expect some people to not want to give away their stuff, and there's not a huge flow of apps just yet.
Like all open source, I'm very enthusiastic to see what the market produces in the free category - I'm sure it's going to be impressive.
I don't know if the location of were I am located in the US but the I downloaded the widely talked about SHOPSAVVY application and doesn't seem to work well. Sure its free but it doesn't give me the nearest stores and only one or two online suggestions. WEAK SAUCE in my oppinion. I also saw and downloaded (by accident) trialware which I too believe should be in a different catagory. There were not a big selection of apps that were worth my time. Dissappointed
funny you say that because I always have my GPS on and I did it while I was outside. OH'well

This is ridiculous and I dont know who to contact to fix this. All these (****ty) apps are popping up in the app store as free, but really are trials, or even ADVERTISEMENTS for the actual product you must buy. I hope who ever is running the app store fixes this. Im disappointed because they said the apps would be free until next year but developers are making their own way around this rule to charge users for their ****ty apps.
This is one of the reasons i miss my windows mobile phone so much, because of all the excellent developers who created software for free, and diddnt try to make a pretty penny.

Its BETA so developers are going to put out BETA apps for people to test then they will charge for the final product. If you don't want to pay for apps then don't. Stop *****ing the damn phone/OS just came out. There will be free apps eventually, you can't even compare to Windows(WHICH HAS BEEN OUT FOR A LOT LONGER).
I understand your anger. Trial versions in my world ARE NOT FREEWARES! It's called SHAREWARE and are completely another kind ob beast. I'm REALLY PICKY at what I'm adding to our directory of free Android software and there is no chance for a trial, shareware or a demo to get inside. I'm myself sick of all these "smart promotion strategies" by developers and I hope Googlers at Android Market will sort this out soon (but I fear they won't interfere too much). Let's see!

[Q] Asphalt 5

Asphalt 5 is not showing up for me in the Samsung market? I was under the impression that you would be able to download the full game for free?
But when reading the "instructions" it says that it may vary depending on operator, meh!
Would it be possible for someone to share the .apk?

I had not heard that, but if it is indeed the case I would like to get my hands on it as well.
Yes, I noticed the same thing. I'd be interested to know whether anyone in the UK actually has Asphalt 5 in their Samsung Apps and if so which operator they are using. FWIW, I'm using Talkmobile (which shows 2 apps in Samsung Apps) and I also tried my Virgin SIM (which only showed 1 app).
Of course if I actually wanted the game it's only £3 from Gameloft, but I'm not convinced that I want it that much.
Its not displayed as HD like their Tab games are on the website so theyre probably updating it.
Sent from my GT-P1000
its not on three uk or tmobile uk either!!
Apshalt 5 HD is on the android market... Doesn't work properly on my tab tho (the free version anyway)
The one in the market isn't for the Tab, you need the one from gameloft.com site!
My tab from CPW had both Asphalt 5 and N.O.V.A pre-loaded, but in my haste I forgot to back them up before upgrading to the JK5 firmware via Odin. I now don't have them so I'm a little annoyed at myself!
Do you think If I email Gameloft my serial number etc that they will send me the .apk's as the product I purchased came with them or am I out of luck?

I mean, it' not a huge deal for me, it would just be nice to have and they did say it would be free!
Why is it that EVERYONE has got different apps on their tab? Very annoying
Gameloft are currently making Asphalt 6 which will work on the iPad, so thatll be pprted over for us over time
I wouldn't really use the term "currently". They haven't even started development on it yet, although it is planned.
Asphalt 5 HD should be available on the gameloft site for us.

The state of Android Market for International users

I currently have a Xoom Wi-fi being used here in the Caribbean (Netherlands Antilles) and the state of Android Market simply makes it unusable, even when using USA VPN Connection.
I did find a solution here in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065698 (a combination of root + build.prop of a verizon xoom)
But what about using the Xoom without root? For the normal user. Let's say I decide I want to sell the Xoom, for a normal user it would appear to be simply unusable, unable to buy or download a good junk of apps. Without all this tinkering I would constantly get: "The requested app could not be found" or cannot be installed on your device to cannot be installed on your carrier. My country seems to be supported: http://www.google.com/support/androidmarket/developer/bin/answer.py?answer=138294 , but after asking some devs to enable an app in my market, most tell you that they made it available to ALL markets already. Especially this part I find particularly troubling as the devs clearly want to maximize their sales and make it available in as many countries as possible, yet for my country (and many others) where supposedly even paid apps are enabled, we cannot download/pay for them.
My question is basically isn't there an easy way around all of this, without root, basically in an out-of-box state? I guess this is also a cautionary tale that without all this tinkering/rooting....a wifi Xoom is pretty much usless in certain markets.
I Hear u on this! I Wrote to google asking about this situation, but havent got any replies yet!.
They have a form to contact them in the market help!.
(Venezuela here)
THe list of countries we are given to deploy to as a dev is not exhaustive, if it's not in the list, there is nothing we can do about deploying there (as developers) it's up to google to sort out whatever problem it is thats keeps your country off the list.

According to the list my country falls in "Rest of the world" and has support for both free and paid apps. So I don't understand what's the problem.
Also as a dev, i think it's important for you guys, as I know many international users would like to buy certain apps, which is a huge untapped market, all potential sales going to waste.

yes, it's very true, so which country are you in? I don't know which list you are looking at, but I'm looking at the list that is presented to me when I upload an application for sale on the market, I have to select countries and prices, with, by default, every country is selected.

Actually its not such a big issue. I bought a Xoom wifi from the US. I live in the UAE and initially I had the same issues though Market access worked fine. Now though after using the update and getting to 3.1 even that isn't needed my Xoom is recognized a Verizon Xoom (since I used the US wifi files).
PS: UAE isn't on any of the lists :0) there might not be an official solution but there sure is a work around.

Speculation: Chromecast announcements coming soon?

It occurs to me that Chromecast was released on July 24th, 2013 with (at least for early adopters) 3 months of free Netflix. I always figured that those 3 months were to help compensate for the fact that there is not much you can do with it yet.
Many of us know by know that the Nexus 5 is expected to launch by the end of October. Maybe it's not at all coincidental that this will be around the same time that all the free 3-month Netflix trials expire.
So yeah, anyone else think/hope that we're going to hear something big for Chromecast at the same announcement where they launch the Nexus 5?
I'd like it to come to Canada already.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using Tapatalk
Lots of people already have it in Canada, and it works just fine within the content geo-blocking restrictions (Netflix Canada, no Hulu+ or Google Play). Those restrictions won't change when it's officially released for sale in Canada. In any case, there are no technical issues to resolve before releasing it for sale in Canada - it's just a supply problem keeping it restricted to U.S. sales at the moment.
I'd rather see Google put more priority on upgrading the poorly-peforming Beta tab casting software before pushing it out to world release.
I was hoping that maybe the API for third party apps would finally open up to work with consumer devices. But maybe that's to optimistic for Google.
Or, at minimum, maybe they'd announce a whole whack of new compatible apps.

The DIAL protocol used by Chromecast was jointly developed by Netflix and YouTube (and YouTube is Google, obviously).
I think the promotion was to aid in the adoption of Chromecast by new Netflix owners.
Not an apology in the sense of, oh well you can't do much - but an incentive, for what it was at face value.
And the Netflix 3 month pass wasn't just for early adopters - the allotment of those freebies ran out on day 1 of sales.
Few people got in on that.

Nope.
We need a final, not beta, Chromecast SDK. That will allow more apps and if done soon - as in real soon - then they can consider some Chromecast promo for the holidays and have the advantage of buzz in the press over the new apps.
Google just rebranded Google TV as Android TV this past week.
Looks like they're still working at making a rational, cohesive marketing statement on where they stand with TV to me.

He said the problems that occurred with that were receiving phone calls interrupted the streaming. He also mentioned that Google is aiming for "better experience" on the software end.

Glad to hear someone somewhere is working on something. We've gone nowhere but backwards for the last several months. Makes you wonder what their devlopers can have been up to all this time.
No mention of when the SDK might be released? They have been promising this since the start. Weren't they actually boasting about how quick and easy it would be for developers to get their apps tailored for Chromecast? So where's the code, boys? IMO it's more apps that are needed not poor quality streaming from our phones .

Google never said anything about the SDK being released. That was all speculation. The unfortunate part is the Chromecast will never be a completely open sourced product. I have a feeling it will remain mostly locked down as they are aiming it as a mainstream device. Not a developers toy.

Hmmm, well I'm certain I read there was an SDK released to developers at the time the Chromecast itself was released but it was limited to "preview " form for exploration and testing purposes. What would be the point of that if Google did not intend one day to release a full (though not necessarily public) SDK for these guys to get their apps to market?
I have it in Canada and with a few hacks I am able to use Google All Access Music from Canada. Thanks to a Pre Paid Visa and a VPN but this not the way it should be. I even set up a Hulu Plus Account but decided Netflix was fine.

Thanks - knew I had't dreamt it .
So presumably there have been plenty of companies out there who have been preparing apps for the day Google gives them the nod and releases the the code that will allow them to run their work on non-whitelisted devices.
Some, yeah.
Vbukit has an interesting offering in the works. Remote Cast - I'm looking forward to that advancing.
No idea on others. I'm content to wait and see. Vudu is on my wish list.
The defects list is publicly available. I'd hope that those get sorted as well, prior to the release of a lot of apps.

Question Official Samsung watch blood pressure support for US?

The rest of world can do blood pressure stuff with the watch 4 & 5, but not the US. I hear it was a FDA regulations issue that was blocking things got sorted out. Any solid info or rumors on when an official release to make it work? I've seen a few hacks floating & at least 1 rumor after talking to a customer support person saying on official release was suppose to be in December. But as December is almost over that seems dubious. Not planning on fighting with side loading, rooting & what not for the time being, unless the BP stuff is a long ways off.
idk
https://www.xda-developers.com/how-to-enable-ecg-blood-pressure-monitoring-samsung-galaxy-watch-4/ for reference on how to do it on the Watch4. I believe it works on the 5, but am not going to be fighting with it for a bit.
Yes, that reference should work on the W5...
Not one to install unknown software in fear of data stealing, trojans, viruses... I bit the bullet and installed this work around. It in fact works great. Did the calibration and pretty darn accurate. BP measurements was the main reason I bought this watch 5 and can finally use it.,

Just a slight clarification.. there is nothing unknown about the software you installed. That guy who wrote and supports it is well known. But it's nice that you reported that you got it working. I'm waiting on the watch now and will do the same as you did. I would like the reporting too.

I understand. But side loading apps can be risky, never as safe as getting it through the play store, but yea, some bad actors there too. Google tried to verify it on download but gave me a message file too large. Recently bought 2022 Turbotax which most vendors sell as downloads and yep, the vendor was pushing a copy with malware and bogus serial number. He was using a very larger retailor to offer from. Luckily I almost always first install to a sandbox to be safe, and test, and did, Just saying its getting nuts out there.

I hear that & I'm in the same boat. Use to root, run Cyanogen, mess with bootloaders & all the fun stuff for years. These days stock usually is good enough & auto-updating makes life so much easier & safer.
Still debating if I just wait for Samsung, or break down & side load semi-trusted molded stuff.

First, works great and well needed app on my wrist. As for loading an 'unknown' sourse, Dante63 has done so much to allow us, and he keep maintaining new releases. I have his 'unknown' source since early W4 days (and I had the watch from proably the day it was released). With github release, text install files, video, github, and support for the community for free, what exactly is he going to take from you exactly? If you have Tiktok I would be more worried.. and if you get the google time line as I do once a month, this is REALLY big brother style report.. So if you connect to the internet, you already gave up on privacy.. and they know everything about you already.

According to APK Mirror, the latest is Samsung Health Monitor 1.1.1.221 so I believe this is the latest you can ask for.
