[Q] HDMI audio problem

Hello to all,
A few days ago I received my LG O2x, everything works fine. Today I bought an adapter to connect my phone to my tv using HDMI.
The picture is transferred perfectly, but I got no audio on my tv. The phone speaker keeps working instead of my tv.
Is there a setting I missed? Or perhaps an app that can select the output device (ubuntu-like)?
My phone is updated to android 2.3.4
The tv works fine with my HD Mediabox.

Hdmi works great on another tv, but not on my 5 year old Grundig Cinaro HDready tv. Only picture no sound.
Does somebody know how to get it working?

I think that your TV doesn't support it or something if it works on other TV's with Audio except on yours then it's your TV...

Yeah seems to be the problem, tried it on 3 tvs, 2 Grundig (same type) 1 Sony. Only the sony works.
But connecting my laptop to my grundig tv is no problem, audio and video.
So my thougt is: phone doesn't recognize tv and sends no audio.
Next thougt: there should be more people that wants to select theire audio output, ie 3.5mm instead of hdmi. So if there is an app that can force audio to a selected output, I can try if that solves my problem. But I can't find such an app.

[Q] Distorted Bluetooth

Was curious if anyone else has run into issues with audio over Bluetooth being distorted? On mine, when streaming Spotify to my car (extreme quality downloaded to the phone), there is a very noticeable distortion in the high frequencies. It's really pronounced on cymbal crashes.
I really hope this is just my particular phone and not all of the Ones doing this. I really like this phone otherwise but this is kind of a deal breaker for me. :crying:

Does it sound better (test with same song) when you plug it in with an audio cable? What's the MP3 sample rate?
I thought Google was supposed to have addressed this issue

I just drove around today with streaming from Google music with no issues.

Hey quick question, if your car is capable, did you get the song/artist/album meta-data transmitted? This version of Bluetooth is supposed to have that in the spec...

No idea what the sample rate is. But it's the highest quality on Spotify. Even when it's on the lowest quality it doesn't sound this bad when using my old Galaxy Note 2 or iPhone.
Just tried it with the Aux jack in the car and it sounded fine. In fact, with Beats on, I'd say it sounded excellent. :good:

Maybe I should load up some music locally and see what happens. Out of curiosity, is yours rooted? I don't think that would have anything to do with it, would it?

I am rooted and running viper rom.
Also, it was both local and streamed from Google music.
On a huge side note, it transmits song data too! My EVO lte didn't do that, pretty happy to be surprised by that with the One as I wasn't expecting it.

Awesome. I knew it was in the Bluetooth 4.0 spec, I just hoped it was supported. Wonder if Pandora does the same?

Spotify does not transmit song info...just an fyi

Maybe I'll flash the Viper Rom and see what happens. I'm on stock rooted right now.
Pretty awesome that it transmits that data!! That might be enough for me to get a new deck in my car. It's drives me nuts having blanks screens where the music data should be.

Does your car support aptx?

I have no idea what that means. I have a 2013 VW CC Lux. Maybe you could look it up to see what it has for compatability?

Support of song metadata is part of the AVRCP 1.3 profile, which this phone supports. That is independent of any Bluetooth core version (2.1 vs 3.0 vs 4.0) specification. There are only a few headsets and even fewer cars that support the AptX codec which this phone also supports. Think of the codec as a way of transmitting the audio from the phone to the headset in a higher quality than MP3.

I am noticing distortion on the highs when when streaming music over BT. I think even my EVO3D sounded slightly better than this How is there a ROM already available for the one? Where can I obtain Viper rom?

I was excited to find out that my One was transmitting song data/text to my head unit over BT! my evo3d didnt do that. this is using PlayerPro

This just reminds me of how much I have to test on my phone before it's too late to exchange it.

Generally best to troubleshoot Bluetooth issues for music with the default player first before looking at alternative players. If it isn't working well on the default as well as your preferred player like PlayerPro, that says a lot more.

Well the info from the music player to the stereo is inconsistent. Using the same app, same songs, etc sometimes it shows music info sometimes it doesn't.

Just tried it again using the Viper rom this time and the same issue.
I'll load some music into the phone and use the stock player and see if it still does it.

Well I experimented with it yesterday streaming music from my Amazon MP3 cloud player and it was great...I was streaming to a JBL Flip Bluetooth speaker and it sounded awesome...BUT....we only have 3G in my area so the few little sounds I heard I attributed to 3Gs slower connection speed. I then downloaded a hard copy of the same song on my phone and played it non-streaming and it sounded better. Maybe its just the streaming that distorted the sound for you.

Loaded some MP3s into the One and tried the stock music player in the car is the same results. Super distorted.
I thought this got fixed with ICS. My Galaxy S2 (after the ICS update), S3 Note 2 and my iPhone 4s and 5 all had no trouble streaming to my car over bluetooth. :crying:

Just to clarify, I have had ZERO distrotion issues with music to my car or computer headset. Thats through google music and pandora, the music sounds great with no issues whether streaming or from my pinned playlists.
My only issue has been the inconsistent nature of if it provided the song info to my car's stereo. I have found that if I am on an FM station and then switch to bluetooth with my car for media that it always provides the information, so I am assuming that it is something to do with starting the car and syncing to the bluetooth immediately where maybe my stereo hasn't fully booted yet that is causing the audio to play but not getting the full music info.

YouTube app on my HTC One unable to play back HD content without constantly freezing

Hi guys
I was wondering if any of you have come across this? I can watch a song video/trailer/anything on YouTube on my macbook in HD and it will play perfectly via my wireless connection. However, same video, same wireless connection, and my HTC One YouTube app cannot play it. It just constantly freezes and locks up, making it unplayable. Very annoying considering it has a 1080p screen. It seems that it's just not buffering enough?
If you remove HD it will play perfectly. Does anyone else have this problem?

Plays fine on Macbook in 720p, stutters and freezes on my HTC One. What is the point in having a 1080p screen if you can't stream even a trailer over a wireless network?!
Anyone noticed this/got a solution? Other than the frankly bizarre 'watch later' which seems to decide whether to download a clip using some sort of black magic tied in with the moon phases?

I'm guessing it's either the phone's connection to the wifi network or (more probable) the YouTube app. Try clearing YouTube app data first and see if it works then. If not try uninstalling the app or uninstalling updates and then download it again. Don't have this issue myself so I'm taking random stabs in the dark for now, but this usually works for most apps.

Dlna 1080p videos

I tried to watch my 1080p videos through my hdtv using the stock gallery app. The reproduction was not fluid at all. Both sound and picture kept stuttering. There wasn't any problem with 720p videos. I know galaxy s4 can send 1080p videos via dlna without problem. If it isn't a snapdragon 600 issue, is there anything can do to watch my videos through my tv? A setting or another app maybe?

Could it be a through put issue in your network?
my One works great with MHL adapter but when i try to use the HTC Media Link i get issues. Its a result of my network set up and how i have my WiFi configured. I need more throughput for my larger files / movies to work properly over WiFi.
Have not tried DLNA yet. But i do have a PS3 so maybe i should attempt to set that up.

Try Skifta app. Works super well thru dlna 4me ?

Netflix audio problem

I just got my Chromecast for Christmas and when I use netflix the audio sounds extremely garbled and high pitched. We are talking indistinguishable Alvin and the Chipmunks underwater messed up audio. YouTube and Pandora sound fine. Any ideas or is netflix just messed up?

What kind of TV or sound system do you have?

Its currently hooked up to an old Viewsonic LCD TV, no sound system. I don't think the TV is the problem since youtube and pandora work fine unless Netflix has audio output settings I am not aware of.

Netflix does have audio options, though I have yet to find anything beyond Stereo.
If the audio is semi-intelligible but playing in super-fast bursts, then it's being caused by lag, similar to how Bluetooth A2DP will try to catch up the signal is interrupted - the remainder of the buffer is flushed at super speed to try to catch up. But if the signal is continually interrupted, this happens continuously.
I don't know what Netflix's default streaming bitrate is, but it's possible your connection isn't stable enough to handle whatever rate it's choosing. YouTube tends to drop down or buffer more. Pandora is just audio which is trivial bandwidth-wise.

I have 15/1 cable thats pretty spot on. No issues streaming netflix and other stuff to Sony bluray or Wii. My router is an older TPLink N300, but it works with everything else. I don't have HBO or Hulu will try to find other video apps to troubleshoot. Either way thanks for your responses.

OK so I downloaded redbull TV and revision 3 and tested videos. Redbull works fine but revision 3 has the sane audio issues as Netflix. Maybe its a router issue? I will just have to do some research I guess

Possibly... Newer TP-Link routers are listed as compatible by Google so, not sure.
How's the signal strength on the Chromecast? If you're not already using the extender, that might be enough.
Otherwise, the general "gotchas" seem to be options related to:
AP Isolation (must be OFF)
Multicast (depends, but multicast packets need to be allowed)
UPnP (should be ON)
IGMP (depends)
IPv6 (depends)

Good signal strength and my settings look right. Will try on the Samsung TV shortly for troubleshooting. Wife is on that one at the moment. I don't need a Chromecast on that TV though if it works right.

Not necessarily full strength, but it does need a reasonable connection strength so there is enough sustained transfer speed.
Sounds like your sustained transfer speed may be fluctuating, causing "spurts" which are generally bad for streaming applications. A slower, stable connection is actually better than a faster, bursty connection for streaming, because it's like breathing - it's about flow rather than average. 7.5 liters of air in 3 seconds doesn't make up for the other 57 seconds of the minute that you got nothing.
Depending on your wiring situation, if you can move the router closer to the Chromecast, that should help - or if the router is on a different floor, avoid having it directly above/below the Chromecast. If the TV itself is directly between the router and and Chromecast, the HDMI extender should help, if that doesn't get it clear, you can use a longer HDMI extension cable. I have my main Chromecast on a 10-foot HDMI extension, connected to my sound system, which then has a 6-foot HDMI cable to the TV. No problem so far, and it keeps my Chromecast in a spot where I can keep an eye on it. I'm sure one day it's going to sprout legs and run off. :silly:
Some routers allow you to adjust the signal strength as well.
If none of the above is possible, then the final option would be to get a wireless repeater or range extender - or a router with a stronger signal, but it's tough to judge how a specific router will do in a situation without actually testing it.

Yeah I am probably on the fringe of a really good connection for this little device. The wii works fine but its antennas are probably bigger and its only 480p resolution. I should be able to move the cable modem and router just need to dig out a splitter and find my WiFi dongle for the desktop. I also have a Belkin N750 router I can borrow from work tomorrow. I put in a Netgear Nighthawk in its place on Friday. Wish I had $200 to drop on one of those for home.

You should be able to have multiple APs as long as everything's on the same subnet. So you could turn off DHCP on the Belkin and connect its LAN to your TP-Link's LAN and it should act as a simple access point. Then connect Chromecast to the Belkin's wireless.
If you have multiple bands that's a good way to minimize other wireless traffic and maximize available bandwidth.
My phone usually is on my 5GHz wireless while my Chromecast is on the 2.4GHz wireless (because that's all it supports). So when I cast local media from Avia it goes from my phone to my router over 5GHz and to Chromecast over 2.4GHz, which in theory keeps the wireless usage to 1x the content bitrate on each band, rather than 2x the content bitrate on a single band (send from phone to router + send from router to Chromecast).

I have narrowed the problem down to my TV and the way certain apps deliver audio. I tried the Belkin router and still had garbled audio on Netflix but YouTube had no issues. Still only good signal strength though.
Next I moved the cable modem and router to several feet from the Chromecast and still had the same audio issues.
Maybe I can talk the wife into a new TV

Weird. Maybe a decoding or sampling rate problem.

Wow that's weird. Almost like a pitch shift... not sure what would cause that... definitely doesn't sound like a network "catch up" though.
Maybe joint stereo being interpreted as standard stereo. Very weird. Submit a bug report to Netflix, doesn't hurt.

We found a great deal on a Samsung 55" LED today and after shifting TVs around the house I won't be using the Viesonic anymore. The good news is that the Chromecast is working fine now on the old Samsung 42"
