I posted a while ago about my N7000 dying randomly one day and getting stuck in an infinite reboot cycle and while I was flashing it to fix it, a friend threw a small foam ball at me which hit the USB cable and unplugged my phone. After that it doesn't even try to turn on.
I tried calling Customer service after it broke in hope of getting it fixed through Samsung USA, but they basically told me to go F myself since it was an international phone and wasn't 'theirs'. Cool Samsung, Cool.
Is there anything I should try first before deciding to buy something to try and fix it? If it is a cheap fix (<$50) then I would try to fix it.
Do you think it is the motherboard that is broken? Since it was disconnected while flashing, or would more than just the motherboard be broken?
I've been charging the battery and am going to check to see if there is any charge with a multimeter later this week to make sure that it isn't the battery giving me trouble, but I figure that it is not since the battery had been working fine when I was attempting to fix it.
Here's the orignial thread when I was first trying to fix it:

Try to pull out battery, then plug in USB jig and put battery back and wait a minute to see if it enter download mode.
If the screen still black, unplug USB jig and check if it is recognised by Odin.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried both, it doesn't enter download mode, and Odin sadly doesn't recognize it either. And just to make sure it wasn't my USB or computer, I plugged in my working android phone and Odin recognized it.

Are you sure your battery is charged?
If yes I think that only JTAG will help. Sorry...

I'm pretty sure. I'm going to bring my battery to my lab tomorrow and check to see if it has a charge. Sadly none of my friends have a Note that I could borrow their battery from. So if my battery isn't dead when I test it tomorrow, I will look into JTAG. If it is, then I'll look into buying a new battery.
Thanks for the advice again!!

It should be in this format MM.YY. In some cases, it could be like MM.YYYY too.
On a side track, if any of ur friends have a Captivate, I would recommend getting ur battery charged up atleast to some extent like 25% so u can fire up the phone into download mode and get started on recovering it.

is there any way I can charge my battery with this phone...i know i came to my sister's home..and they dont have samsung phones...so I have to wait 3 days to back home to chrage it
You should be able to charge it with the phone off. Just plug it in and a charging screen will appear.
If it last turned off by crashing you might need to pull the battery, put it back in, and then plug in. That's fixed mine before when it was nonresponsive to the charging cable after a bad flash attempt.

Really, I am going to try that again and again...May be I might get lucky, I have been flashing, soft bricking and doing everything on XDA since last September. but never had such problem.
A small suggestion: Next time on, pls ensure u have atleast a 60% battery, preferably 100%, when u flash. It would really help in just-in-case situations like this.
I do too flash when battery is as low as 10%, but well, I have another battery charged to atleast 75% lying around all the time
Okey, the history started this morning. Like everyday i plug my Note at night and unplug at the morning. When i unpluged, i've noticed it still "charging", i say "not again please" (A couple of months ago it started with this problem, but i fixed it cleaning usb port) so i fixed it by the same way. Curiosly, I've removed the battery and i plugged the charger in w/o battery. Automatically it started Download mode (not Odin mode, FACTORY MODE). So inserted again the battery and unplugged the charger. I've turned on my notebook and started odin, surprise!: Odin has recognized my phone!! I dont know but if some day i brick my phone and i need a JIG to enter in Download Mode, can i use this method for reflash a rom? Sorry my bad english! Hope you guys can understand me!
Greetings from Argentina!
I tried the same thing, connect the charger without the battery and nothing happens, I tried even to press the buttons to go into Dow load mode but nothing. was you charger plugged into the power supply or not? mine was.
I think its not really possible
Never run a phone of the charger, with no battery. You can kid it into not working when you put a battery in. Its rare but happens esp. If you run it for a while without one. As for the other thing . Impossible me think

Bad news guys i've tried in my friend's Note but it doesnt worked... Mine was the USB port "corrupted", ghost charging every time and i cant fix it like other times. I need help!
I detail the problem I'm having.
A few days ago I'm having problems with my phone, after fully or partially charged my battery, when I unplug the original charger or PC, on my phone still appearing as "loading or loaded" and when I try to connect again longer loads , I try restarting the phone and then I figure I have the actual battery and leaves me no charging, but if I try to plug in the charger that does not recognize me, and not charge the phone and to re-detect it necessarily must remove your battery and turn it on with the charger set to charge me normally.
If you think it is the charger jack, ALWAYS connect the charger with the phone off, I fully recognize the phone at the first time, no need to connect several times or move the cable.
My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S Advance.
My OS: 10.1 Cyanogenmod Nightly with Jelly Bean.
This problem appeared after using me for 3 or 4 weeks the Cyanogenmod so I do not think it's exactly that reason.
I've tried reinstalling the custom ROM, and also did the Wipe cache, the dalvik cache, and factory reset, I had a single result.
I have also blown my phone and connect the cables.
Check my connector is not damaged.
Probe with other original chargers.
I loaded the original firmware samsung and still the problem
Finally, i tried all possible methods that can extend my knowledge techs, can someone give me a hand that knows how to fix it or someone who has gone through this problem?
Please solutions have not tried yet and that may be effective! Thank you!

We can't tell that unless we can take a look at your device, but you can take your phone to a Repair shop and get it fixed right?
And did you let the phone completely discharge the battery then turn it on by connecting the charger? One more thing, make sure that your charging port is clean because dusts might cause this problem maybe....

I have not really tested yet cleaning up the connector, no more blowing it.
Could lead to a technician for repair but I honestly is the last thing you would want to do not for money but it at least in my country there is no trained technicians repair and when you do not always look good then, sequels often fall ill repair and the technicians do not take care and also are not cheap, even sometimes prefer to buy a new phone before sending it to repair ..
Guys today faced a strange issue. In the afternoon I connected my phone to the charger as my battery was only 16% left. It started charging. Then right now when I picked up my phone I was shocked to see that it was still 16% and charging. Same "connect your phone to a power supply etc" appeared. Then I disconnected the charger and reinserted it. Now it is showing 19%. That means it is now charging. Could you please tell me what could have been the issue?

I have the same problem. It was preceded by my phone going into Car Mode for no reason and also thinking I was USB connected when I was connected to a charger.
I have sent the phone to HTC who want me to pay for a new motherboard as the bootloader is unlocked. They sent me a picture of the phone showing the bootloader was unlocked but for some reason they sent me a photo of someone elses phone (mine is black and the photo is of a silver one). I now have an escalated ticket to sort this out - has been open since Monday. I am losing patience with HTC.........
Same here... I don't have HTC Warranty, what can i do?

Mine was having the same trouble. Car mode, not charging and usb host mode warning. I made some alterations suggested in another thread as: Turn off fast boot, and choose no screen lock and reboot. The phone charged at night, but it was turned off. I'll get home and see what's up. The worst thing for me is that I'm in Brazil and we get no support here. I'll have to send it to the US, to a friend so he can send to htc. Didn't get to see if it connects to the pc. I'll be pissed if it doesn't.
Oh, mine is completely stock. Didn't unlock bootloarder or S-OFF
Phone is working just fine now. Recharging when on, no more car app going crazy. I only turned off fast boot and lock screen, rebooted and problems solved.

I already fixed this charging issue...it has nothing to do with HW.
Just replaced this parts shown in the attached image below
I don't know what is happend but the phone is charging now.I buy an LG G2 and let the phone off one week and after that when I plugged in charger everything is normal. The problem now is with the microphone now because when I call somebody he can't hear me,but I can hear the other person. If I activate the speaker everything is good and I can use my phone for calls. Now the phone is in service and I will reply with results when I will get it back.
I have the same problem, there are many topics about this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2332046&highlight=charge&page=3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2417377&highlight=charge&page=3
And I have read many theories about the causes of this problem:
1) damaged usb port
2) virtual sd-card corrupted
3) damaged proximity sensor
But apparently the only solution is send it to warranty...
I am kinda having the same problem...
I can charge when its on but it has to be with certain chargers...
like a usb wall charger but not certain standard ones
charges in the car no problem and when off..
But this only recently happened when I flashed a new Rom...
I restored back to another rom and it charges no problem...
So now I think it has something to do with the freq of how the phone is clocked at...
Im testing right now to see if I clock it to something different over or under it might fix the problem...
Will post results
Solved

Yeah i just solved. Thanks god.
I had the same problem after totally discharge the phone and try to charge it with a generic charger.
The device didnt charge when ON and didnt connect to USB neither.
It starts putting itself in car mode and USB host mode.
I was going to try a defferent kernel when i re-unlocked the phone and rooted it (i install TWRP2 v2.6.3.3)
in my way to install the kernell (and change the ROM) i did a factory wipe with the TWRP2 tool and then
i noticed that the phone starts charging again.
It is like kew again.
I hope this help a bunch of people out there, i made a hugh investigation and no one have any idea, they
keep telling you that is a hardware problem. If the phone dont charge it all than is a hardware problem if
it charges when is OFF or in Fasboot mode than is a software problem.
Sorry for my english. Spread the word.
email: [email protected]
Mine stopped charging, battery is now empty and it's completely unresponsive. It doesn't charge, LED doesn't blink, I can't boot it(not even in bootloader). What can I do? It's still under warranty, but the bootloader is unlocked and I have installed a custom ROM. Do you think they will notice that because it doesn't boot at all and they don't open the phones in Croatia(where I live) as far as I know because they don't have the right equipment so they just exchange them. Should I just try sending it?

Hello.
Please take your time to read this message.. It contains detailed information about this case...
I have a broken Z1 phone which I'm trying to fix. It all started with the phone turning off randomly, and wasn't possible to turn it back on. Not using the power button/red reset button or using power + volume up together (this worked previous times).
When the screen died, I could see white blocks of pixels moving around a few seconds before it completely shut down. There were no signs of life after that, the LED was completely dead as well. The computer didn't notice the device if I connected it with a USB cable. If I tried to charge the phone, the LED wouldn't turn red.
I decided to wait for a week in order to see if the battery could run out of charge. So after a week I took the USB cable and started to charge it. The LED turned back on, with a red color, which is correct when it is charging.
I thought it would work to boot - but nope, it did not work at all. Now is the time I decided to open up my device. I used a heat gun to heat the back edges of the phone. I then used some palastic tool to open the back cover from the phone. It all went very smooth and I disconnected the battery from the phone (removed the cable from the motherboard).
I let it be for about 10 minutes. After that I inserted the cable back to the motherboard, and tried to boot. This time, nothing happend again.. So I started to charge it, and a screen came up saying 1% battery... So I let it charge the battery for a few hours until it rached 100%.
The battery is now 100% charged. The phone still refuses to boot up the first time. The second time I tried, it worked. I was able to connect my phone to my computer, so I took a backup of all files. I downloaded Sony PC Companion, and made a factory reset. This went very smooth as well.
I thought everything was fixed after this - but nope. The phone randomly shuts down a few times, and each and every time, I'm just starting it again (it did crash both when I was using it, and when I did not). I was speaking on the phone with it yesterday for 1 hour (used a bluetooth device), without the back cover connected to the phone. The call went very good and the phone didn't crash anymore that evening.
I thought everything was good, once again. So I was letting my phone be powered on during the night when I was sleeping. When I woke up, I went to check the phone - and it was: dead.
Since this, I have not been able to power it on again. No matter what I do. I have tried to disconnect the battery, check for cables that aren't fixed and so on.. But everything seems to be OK.
My thought was that the battery was bad, so I went to a store in order to check if the battery is OK or not. They tested the battery with some kind of device, and said it has about 40% charge left.. And they didn't see any issues with it.
So... now I'm wondering, what kind of parts do I need in order to fix my phone? Is it just a new battery, or is it the whole motherboard that is gone? What do you think? I know you guys are very experienced, so I have high hopes of help from you.
Regards
Hello!
Sorry to hear about what happened to your Z1, I'm currently in the state that my phone has a red LED when connected to anything and stays like that, PC doesn't even recognize it.
I see your problem is different, I'd suggest you to start here and hope for the best. Unfortunately I can't do that to my phone because PC is not recognizing my device.
Good luck

Download Sony PC Companion, plug in your phone and follow the instructions in order to reset your phone. If that doesn't work, then you have probably had water or some other hardware failure.
Is this problem will cost me a lot of money if I'll bring it back to Sony for them to repair?

Not if you repair via Sony PC Companion. It will re-install the system on the phone, so in case it is a software error, it will be fixed.
However, if that doesn't help, then you need to check if you have any warranty valid on your phone. Even if you have warranty, it is not sure that Sony will cover costs for repairing your device. For example water damages will most likely be refused, and you'll have to pay for it yourself. I don't know how much it would cost though.
