You know what, i look at this forum everday hoping to improve my phone. I don't know anyone else who does this, and those that know I do think i'm mad.
All i'm trying to do is get a good sigal on my phone. I've tried flashing every radio ROM and and its time to face up to it... we'll never get a decent signal on these things.
I get two bars in my house. Just put my sim into a nokia n82 and its constantly on full bars! 3.5g too constantly.
Have I got a duff phone? or are all these HTC TDs just crap at what their primary purpose is ... to connect to a mobile network properley?
Shame. i'm thinking of buying an i900 Omnia instead, Is this any better for signal strength? maybe i should use my old nokia 2110 from the 90s. prob has a better battery still than the HTC TD!
Just out of curiosity... Why are you posting this as a new thread in the rom development forum?
I'm also looking for better signal strength... Have been ever since getting my diamond. I've also flashed all available radio roms... But this is (at least in my experience) quite common with these phones... After a couple of month (and a couple of version updates to radio roms) for the most part resolved...
The diamond is the first phone which give me full bars at my home. Using .05 radio.
No probs at all.
I understand your beef with eh signal man but this is not the correct place to voice your issue as this part of the forum is for ROM development.
Have you tried other Radios too?
To see 2 or 5 bars - it is a question of programming. This does not mean, you will have a "better" signal on a different device.
On the other hand, your handset can be also defected.
BTW I think this is not the right forum to post this problem.
Because i've been trying all the radio ROMS here and they don't seem to make any difference to the RF. Maybe battery power is improved. I read that elsewhere that the poor signal was just down to the ROM.
Does a Radio ROM exist that actually improves reception?
Thanks,
Mark

Any advise would be great though. Just flashing ROM .5 again . I've been usign .7 and .11 also .8 but nothing spectacullar. Duttys ROM is great for all else though. These phones would be nothing without xda developers!
Thanks again
Mark

Please can someone move this thread into another section? I don't think i'm going to be able to sleep otherwise!
goodnite. now u can sleep.
ps: jus cudnt stand seein u get mad on ur own!
I have a complete opposite exprience. Before i had orange i had no reception in my house. Neither with the sim in my diamond. I changed to hi/kpn and got 2 bars inside and 2 outdoors (with radio .03). With radio .05 2 bars inside and 3 bars outdoors. With .07 the same as .05 only faster gps fix. Now with .08 i have 3 bars inside and 4 outdoors.
ill sacrifice a bar or two ANY day to have the coolest device in the world. im almost batman!

With duttys roms i always got gps issues, using swiftblades 6.0 lite now. I get a gps signal in my living room (near windows) which was not possible with older phones i used or with any of my girlfriends phones.
But i can tell you it was a hard way of trying roms and settings to get my diamond working nearly perfect.
I think its a good mix of a rom, radio and settings.
Only way is trying.
...its no advertise for the diamond. Its still a nice ppc but i prefer other devices.

I'm with you on this, if all we wanted was better reception we'ld never be buying these things. (Mine last almost a year at best) It's all about tweaking, playing & most of all coolness (My teenage kids will kill me)
Do people want poor signal gb rom made by devs to use.. if enough people want I will make.. if enough interest then others will make to....

i posted an announcement thread and got pretty good response so i am probably flashing the kdz and making a rom tomorrow or next day. i think the signal is probably up to your location. some people get good signal others dont, depends on towers in your area.
...fighting ninjas at night, talkin' about this and that.
I would love to see a gb from.. I was messing around with one but my computer took a dive.

love to see ROMS on the Thrill but I'm patiently waiting for the actual updates to come out or a almost perfect ROM to show up.
I'm currently switching up ics roms and kernels to see which works best for me but I do not understand modems so I need some help here. I saw jk4 on the map close to me. I live in jacksonville fl and commute all around the city and west of jacksonville daily I was wondering which ones to try out.
Thanks

Just start downloading them and trying them, giving them about 2 days before you decide if you like it. Several factors to consider are call quality, signal strength, battery life, and GPS reception. Since your using ICS roms, you must use the modems packaged as CM7/MIUI. You try using something else and it won't flash.
Look >>HERE<< for all the modems you would ever want to try. (FWIW, I like BVJWW2)
Like mrhaley said, there are a variety of things that affect it. JK4 worked great for me when I was in Florida, so I would start there. JW2 is nice also, but it seems like people can't hear me as well with it.

JK4 FTW! I've stayed with it since Eclair and it still works great now I'm on THS ICS. Great starting point to try out.

I flashed jk4 just now. Im over my data limit so I will not be testing internet yet, if it works better I will see better battery life because service is better and faster internet? Is that right?

I'm not sure about better battery life but call quality, data speed and connection stability will definitely improve if the modem is right for you

Better battery life will happen if it gives you better signal strength in the areas you spend the most time.

Hello guys, a few days back I flashed teamhacksung's CM9 ALPHA for Captivate (BUILD 17) on my wife's phone, but she has told me that her apps are not syncing outside of a wifi connection.
I'm thinking it might be something related to the modem.
So I'm looking for any advice on which moden should I load, considering we live in Venezuela? Any tips?
Regards.

Someone listed the "UGKC1" modem in use in Panama. You might consider UGJL2 or UGKG3 also, near by. Search "soggy cashew captivate modem" and check the map. Update your own listing if you find something that works.

That is a bit out of date, you probably should flash a newer build

Thanks for the info guys, had to flash elite v. 10.1 rom, this was the only rom that would enable data service.
Tried:
AOKP-captivatemtd-build-35
F1-galaxynexus-galaxys-20120502-beta2
Nostalgia-b31-v5.4
Team ICSSGS
CM9-20120510-nightly
CNA-1.5.5
Dark Knight v5.5
Elite v.10.1 was the only rom that connected data service.
The good things is that my wife likes it as is right now, which makes it easy on me. Hehehe.
Regards.

Since I am using JB CM10 (stock kernel), Wifi strength is very weak, compared to ICS CM9. I'v checked it with "Wifi Analyzer" and it's about 10 dB weaker than on ICS. In my house I have no signal in some places where I had no problem with ICS. Any solutions for that?

Try using this kernel---> semaphore 2.0.6s
good luck
If your on cm10 don't use the s version of semaphore its only for slim ROMs and others patched like it

I have tried Semaphore 2.0.6 (not the 's' Version) - no difference, Wifi is weak as before.

There are some more remarks on this in the CM10 dev thread. I'm experiencing the same (on stock and Semaphore kernel), but it seems the wizards are not quite sure if the wifi signal is indeed weaker than before or it's just the indicator that reports a weak signal.

Well, but sometimes I'm losing the connection, with CM9 this doesn't happen. So I believe the signal is indeed weaker.
With my tablet (also CM10) there are no problems - same strength as CM9.
I cant even connect to a network that was once strong on cm9
well, same prblm on DHD too.used all the roms in my room perfectly but jellytime get dc all the time so its nt just indicater prblm...
its very good for me
thats because of the feature in jelly bean
try system setting / wifi/advanced/ then uncheck avoid poor connection... may it will help
if not try flashing another modem

Hi all,
Yesterday i have installed a stock Froyo ROM on my i9000 to check the calls recoding function.
I have notice that way that the WI-FI signal was stronger that on Gingerbread, ICS or Jelly Bean ROM-s, allot much stronger.
I was able to have a "good"reception in places that before was no WIFI signal from the same modem.
I have checked the straight whit WIFI Analyzer from the market to be sure that is not just a graphic misunderstand on signal icon on Froyo but the signal was better then my HTC Desire who beats the s*** out my Galaxy on signal straight from the first day with my Galaxy. The test was make it yesterday and today not just at one moment.
Way is this difference and why nobody has notice that till now, or i haven't find yet a topic whit this problem.
I think this is a problem by drivers, and maybe is like call recording function that works only on Froyo ROMS.
Has someone notice the week WIFI signal straight compare to other phones? Is someway to have the Froyo advantages, like WIFI straight and call records on newer ROMS?
Thanks and sorry for my english!
No I dont think so as foryo is sammy based and the ICS, JB are on source relased by google and the dev are trying to have it to the best they can.
If you want those features then I would say you stick with foryo/GB...
Ok, but even on Gingerbreed? I'm happy with my stock Gingerbreed with few mods...but Froyo....is to old.

I'm on froyo from almost a week. The wi-fi signal is great, the call record is working very good and the battery life is ok, over 24hours with Wi-fi on and 5 mail accounts sinking at 15 minutes. The froyo stability is over everything. No FC till now.
But i really miss the newest rom-s customization modes, and others improuvments, like Pdroid.
I'm waiting opinions from others users that downgrade to froyo after gingerbread, ICS, Jelly Bean (like me) for one of this two reasons: calls record function and a significant better Wi-fi signal.
