[Q] pac man roms. can i flash a custom kernel? - Galaxy S III I9305 (4G LTE + 2GB RAM) Q&A, Help &

Hi I'm not sure if this is the place to post this question but I have tried installing the boeffla kernel (the latest for andriod 4.3 cm10.2 roms) on the latest PAC man ROM for my 19305 and It did work once, but after updates to the rom and a fresh flash install of the boeffla kernel I just get boot looped. so my question now is there any kernel I can install on the PAC man ROM? As I read I might to be able to do so on this rom. Any help will be much appreciated thanks

Try yank kernel for cm roms. Also available is agni kernel for cm

[Q] Safest to flash AOKP/CM/PA

Hello,
whose are safest kernels to flash AOKP/CM/PA roms, like - Vanilla Box, Team Asylum, and other non TouchWiz roms?
Currectly running Phillz for TW.
Phillz is the safest

So you say that, than i can flash CM, AOKP, PA roms with Phillz kernel? And it should work ?
And can i flash AOSP and CM 10.0 and CM 9.0 roms with Phillz too?
I suggest you make ur choice after going through this pretty informative thread:

So, Phillz kernel supports cm, Aosp, aokp, pa, and other note roms? No need to flash cm 10, hydracore or any of those roms, all what I need is phillz kernel and I can flash safe?

Actually no. No. No.
Firstly, Philz kernel is NOT supported by cm, aosp etc. It is a STOCK-based kernel. i.e. Touchwizz.
Do not try to run an cm/aosp rom while using Philz kernel.
@abhinav quietly brilliant, was only recommending you to use Philz kernel before you flash/wipe so that you can be sure you won't end up with a brick.
Secondly, there's been numerous cases where people who tried to flash cm/aosp roms encountered a "Status 7: Installation aborted error".
It was concluded that the only users who came across this problem were those running Philz kernel.
Basically every custom kernel you come across nowadays is guaranteed to be safe, but if you're wanting to flash a cm10/aosp rom, to avoid the status 7 error, it is recommended you flash the latest cm10.1 kernel, then go into advanced>reboot recovery, and then flash your rom from there.

Hello everyone After selling my xperia u I got this cellphone which is At&T branded .... I was running gingerDX on my xperia x8 a long time ago then I installed some custom roms on xperia U as well after unlocking it's bootloader and installing custom kernels etc. I sold xperia U as it was a bit slow for me....
Now the question I want to ask is : what are some good roms (without any bugs) fast and stable for this cellphone ? right now I'm on Android 4.1.1 official ... is it good enough if I only root it or should I go for a custom kernel / Rom and what is the easiest method to root it ?

Arrgh kernel for photon Q LTE works for our phone too, best and only(?) custom kernel we have besides N8 (only for 4.2.2 ROMs). Carbon, CM 10.2, PACman, and HoloBlur are my personal best experiences with this phone.

Carbon 4.3 nighlies by far the best and most stable

As for rooting and unlocking bootloader plus flashing a custom recovery, the Myth Tools program for Atrix HD has all those 3 things wrapped into one easy executable.

ignore this.
Thank Neighbor808 if you provide 2, 3 links for roms and the link to kernel I'll be thankful to you.. as I don't want to risk anything here as I'm new to Motorola world
Generally, look for files under mb886. Anyways, here ya go.
CM: http://get.cm/?device=mb886
Carbon: http://goo.im/devs/carbon/mb886/nightly
PACman: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2398627
HoloBlur (Stock based): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2356624
Argh Kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31708952
Make sure you get CM 10.2 kernel for non stock based. Don't flash the kernel of the date of your nighty is later than the kernel (Oct 2 so far). It gets updated regularly.

I can't figure out which kernel to download ASA / FFW ? I've downloaded Oct 2 version of carbon ROM, any thread with it's screenshots and features etc ?
Please also tell in which sequence I should do the procedure ? like : root > recovery > Unlock Bootloader > kernel and then rom ?
Root, unlock bootloader, recovery, backup current rom, wipe data and system, flash rom then kernel.

Deeje is spot on. As for which kernel to download, Post #2 contains the kernels for STOCK or Stock-based ROMs. All of the ROMs I linked to you are CM-Based except for HoloBlur, which is stock based (but it already comes with Arrgggh kernel so don't worry about that). The thread clearly states:
ASA-36 (Original 4.0.4 ICS firmware)
ASA-14 (Final 4.0.4 ICS firmware)
FFW-5 (Latest 4.1.2 JB firmware)
Pretty much the only stock kernel you're ever going to need unless you fastboot flash back to ICS is FFW-5.
Post #5 contains the kernels for CM-Based ROMs (Pretty much all the ROMs out there that aren't stock based). The CM 10.1 Kernel is for Android Version 4.2.2 ROMs, while the CM 10.2 kernel is for Android Version 4.3 ROMs. If you are flashing Carbon October 2 nightly, that is Android 4.3, so you will flash the CM 10.2 edition.
Here's links for the standalone posts to make sure you know where you're going...

CM Kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31717152&postcount=5
By the way, check Atrix HD Development section, has all of our ROMs + screenshots and explains features.
Thanks alot homie this explains everything now tell me some good features of Carbon / Pacman Roms so I consider flashing ?
Carbon is basically CyanogenMod with some great Paranoid Android features added in (like Halo, PIE, navbar customization, etc.) . Smooth, reliable, great battery. PACman is a combination of 3 popular ROMs (Paranoid Android, AOKP, CyanogenMod) and has pretty much every feature you can think of. Highly customizable, but has a few minor bugs and slightly worse battery. Carbon is more stable but not by a whole lot.

Can I flash latest carbon nightly builds if my kernel date is earlier?

Yes, you can. Just take latest kernel currently - Oct 23 2013 CM10.2 and latest Carbon rom from here (*Currently there are some problems on goo.im*) or here.
Kernel and rom date should be close as possible to avoid problems.
If there will be newer kernel then it might not work if rom is older than kernel but even then if there are any problem you can just re-flash earlier kernel. Although you don't really have to mess with kernel at first. Carbon actually come with a working kernel (latest build have mattmanwrx kernel) but it doesn't support overclocking/undervolting.
Ohh, and don't forget to flash gapps if you need them..
Thanks mate... for me most stable versions of kernel and roms are : 7 oct 2013..... I don't want to change them untill something really big comes out....I don't like overclocking as ATRIX HD is fast enough already with or even without pureperformance mod but I see battery improvements via that mod or maybe that's "Greenify" app that I'm using...

[Q] Bootloop after uninstalling CyanogenMod 4.2.2

Hello,
I was trying a lot of different ROMs.
But after flashing CyanogenMod 4.2.2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2374773&highlight=kang) I am not able to flash other ROMs
If I try to flash another ROM it just results in a bootloop with the logo of Free Xperia.
My device is a Sony Xperia T, with currently ROM CM 10.1 Kangs and DoomKernel V08
Could you help me to flash another ROM?
Thank you!

It will bootloop because you have the wrong kernel.
If you are on cm roms then you need cm kernel.
Doomkernel works only on stock based roms.
If you are trying to flash a CM based rom, then flash cm .zip again and then the cm based rom.
If you want to keep doomkernel then flash a stock based rom

Cannot Install CM11 Stable with Semaphore KK. Only with Semaphore "normal". Why?
Dear All,
It seems that i cannot install cm-11-20141112-SNAPSHOT-M12-galaxysmtd with semaphore Semaphore_KK_3.4.3s. I can only install it with Semaphore_2.7.4.
I do not understand because CM11 is a KK rom, correct? So why a KK kernel cannot work? I do not understand that...
Please give me advice
Thanks
s versions of Semaphore are for roms that support bigmem configurations, eg. Slim and homemade source-picked roms. Official releases from CM don't support bigmem so 3.4.3s won't work
