Hello!
I was doing some video recording on my 4x, but I noticed that videos hove avarage only 22fps..
Is there any way to get better fps on our lg 4x?
I am on CM10.2, cm original kernel, I have tried few recommended apps for recording, but framerate is almost always 22fps.
Any ideas for camera app, kernel?
Thanks!

either go back to stock, or, i'm not sure if it works properly - try iodak's ported stock camera app; it should record at higher fps.
Ok, thanks, will try and report back...
Have tried suggested camera an it does record 1080p at approx. 30fps (mostly 27fps)..
But at very low birthrate (round 9000), so the video is not very high quality..
As soon I opened it I also noticed annoying focus bug..
So - is there any app / mod / hack, that has better quality and record at least 24fps? That works on CM 4.2
As far as I tested camera apps, best results are with snap camera (but only 22fps.. ) Maybe lg camera too..
First of all, Questions belong into the Q&A section (---> moved)
Now, to your Q, you can't get a higher framerate, as it is capped @30fps.
But I think i know how to "uncap" it, let me take a look at it tomorrow

amazing , thats great, that would be a nice info. though me im fine with fps. the quality is what bothers me. it would be nice if it could get a higher definition too. faces must be close or they look "ugly"
edit: if we choose a latte fx its easier to notice the bad quality and what i mean.
Yeah, I agree, it would be great to have more fps and better bitrate..
I got 17mps on snap camera.. Could we get it on camera itself?

No, it can't be included into a camera app, as it is inside the system, and not inside an app
So it is possible to include/hack this into kernel or what?
Still haven`t found app, that would record at 30fps and had better bitrate..

Hello people.
A friend in another forum wanted some info about the p880 wether to buy it or not and wanted me to imfom him about the weaknesses of the 4X.
One thing in my opinion : The CAMERA APP.
After exchanging pms he recommended me some other app for me to test in case there is an improvement.I tested the LG camera pro and these are my observations
1) The lighting quality is equivalent to the modded camera app v5, since i had the tweak installed i didnt see any improvement nor drawback.
2) This app has many options to choose from such as audio and video bitrate quality.
3) Most importantly it has an option in both photo and video capture to set the autofocus to your need.To mention some of that setting it includes auto , infinity m macro , fixed and others which seem to make the difference at least in my point of view.
There is nothing to lose and test it for yourself and see the results. No root required.

This a completely different app. The LG Camera Pro was developed for the LG G2X/Optimus 2X. It's a great camera app, although i do like the O4X modded stock camera app. AS far as changing the audioand video bitrate, you can also do that with the O4X's stock camera. Although, i believe you can only do it through the hidden menu. 3845#*880#
So does it work on the 4x?

+1. Hence why i prefer the O4X's stock camera app.
yes at dark places the lg app makes better pics, today i see bad quality too... really grainy
I too agree that the stock camera is better.I use this only to record video with autofocus disable .

When I open it puts me: "The application camera has stopped working" :crying:
Which rom are you using, and which version of app did you flash?
Oh sorry, it works but how i see if it works ?
Compare the pics you make now woth the ones you made prior ro flashing of mod. Plus, when you go to camcorder you can see that you can choose 1080p quality, but it doesn't work, but it prooves that you have a different camera app.
I can't choose 1080p :crying:
I told you that it's not possible cause IncS camera can't go over 720p. Also chipset doesn't support it.
And how can I do to have a better quality when I shoot?
With this app you actually have, I told you make a few shoots and compare them to the previously made ones.

Would it be possible to get higher resolution recording than 1080p, as in 2K, QXGA, WQXGA? I know it's not just the software issue. Naturally, the HW must be capable, so let's see first if the camera module could do it.

Theoretically, I sure do think so (if there's no hardware cap or something we cannot alter). However, you'd most likely have to tweak some stuff, in order go get the required performance from the hardwareside.
The hardware is capable of taking higher resolution photos, but processing would be slow I think. Also, the camera HAL must support it and we can't alter that.

@Adam77Root @laufersteppenwolf
I've seen this in news.I guess we'd need updated libs but since you guys got camera working with old/new libs, why not give it a shot?
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/add-4k-and-120-fps-to-your-stock-lg-camera/
Even if the hardware is not capable of giving out good fps, I think we could still be able to record 4 k videos at very low FPS.
If you guys can't get this to work, could you atleast tweak the camera to widen ISO values so we get better pictures in the dark? Pretty sure our camera is capable of it and seen some guy doing it for stock ICS camera. He tweaked ISO values and I had tested it.It looked far better compared to stock camera.Unfortunately it's only compatible with ICS.
Even general mobile discovery can take better pictures in the dark and doubt it has a better camera than ours.We just need a few tweaks.

That's my thinking, too. If it were possible, the processing would almost certainly not be handled by camera's hardware. I think it would have to be offloaded to phone's CPU. But, who knows? G2 got 4K with a relatively simple apk modding which means the camera module was hardware-capable to begin with. G Flex, too. Luckily, 4X has the same CMOS as the Nexus 4, Sony's IMX111PQ, and that can be very helpful. Perhaps a new driver is required or just a modded apk, like G2. I'm no dev, so I can't tell or make.
@ottomanhero Sadly, we can't get 4K rec coz CMOS hasn't enough vertical pixels. There's also a problem with encoding the vid on phone's hardware as it would probably be a soft encoder which means the CPU would process it (but that's a huge bite even for the top desktop CPUs). But 2K or 1440p vid might be feasable. Tegra 3 can output up to 2560x1600 meaning we could play it, too, with a normal bitrate.
Well atleast we could improve the ISO range to get better shots under low light conditions.I used to have a phone that's 2 MP and even that one had better pictures in low light conditions. It is proven our cam can handle higher/lower ISO values. We just need some software tweaks.

hello xda
so i've been using custom roms since 2011 when i got my first android phone but it seems to me that devs still have same problems which is camera quality and battery drain so here is the list if u can find any rom that fits the description below
-Video stabilization and mic gain
-recording at 1080p 120fps
-SOT as near as stock rom
- smooth as possible
- capable of keeping apps locked in memory
feel free to suggest the Rom + kernel and mods that can unlock all of these features
1080p120 isn't hardware possible.
Why you don't use stock ROM? Best battery life and camera, mic gain can be changed by editing mixer_paths or flashing custom kernel like ElementalX, its app can modify mic gain.
Try Paranoid Android (AOSPA)
Battery is great and Camera can record up to 120 FPS

Most probably it's upscaled from 720p or even 480p to make it show 1080p in media info, and since the sensor does not support recording in 120 fps in such resolution, it's not going to be true 1080p.

Can you talk a bit more about the hi-performance dac? I'm very interested in that considering how recording sucks on 3T.
Edit: Alright I found it, looks like it just enables what can be found on some kernels which appears to the "audio high performance mode" in EXKM.

i'm not sure but the HAL was rebuilt by PA team and they claim they have the best camera around there, most probably it's an up scaled version of the 720p 120fps but still i can't good EIS out of that rom

Even HAL rebuilding won't give you the ability to workaround hardware bottleneck. The device is simply not capable of doing this.
In theory it should work on this device, right? I'm not sure if I installed it right but it doesn't seem to work yet for me. It's still in beta so that could change. This is the article for those that haven't seen it yet, https://www.xda-developers.com/google-camera-hdr-ported/
I'm stoked because my current Rom doesn't have hdr

Snap camera give me good result anyway !!
I just tried it with the latest RRemix and it works like a charm. Really impressed with the detail it gets out. I hated the pictures made with the normal Google camera, especially since I was traveling these days and it's either an overexposed sky, or underexposed building that were on the picture. Now I can have the best of both worlds.
Then require Nougat ROM version !!
Thx for report

Since I don't use the Snap Camera all too much, this is a huge improvement in picture quality. Especially how it gets the harsh lighting and sky to be correct.

Based off those samples it seems like Snap strikes a good middle ground. I used FV-5 and Open Camera and low light pictures would always be even darker than they appeared. I tried the modded Google Camera with HDR+ and while it does take better photos in darker surroundings it almost goes a bit too far.
Sure, but I'm not into changing apps and whatnot and setting up manual modes to get the most of my shots. With this, I get a good picture. And all I had to do was point and shoot. Good enough for me. Now I'm actually compelled to take more pictures, since it takes good pictures now.
So this doesn't work with the original ROM? Mine crashes straight away.

Doesn't work on the latest EPIC (7.7.20 MIUI) either. I assume it doesn't work because MIUI 8/9 is still based on Android 7.0 and this app was extracted from 7.1.2 (the app is a mod of Camera version 4.4.012 which requires 7.1+).
Hey Guys,
I wondering if I am missing the trick to this... I am running LOS so camera API2 enabled via HAL3 enabled = 1
But when I try to install the apk, I get the error:
App not Installed
The package conflicts with an existing package by the same name.
Any ideas? I really want to try this!
Install apk, enable camera API2, reboot.

I'm running latest epic everything is fine and nice with Google photo app but the main camera app Force to close when I try to take a photo, it does however take videos normally. Do you know any workaround?
EDITED
Nevermind, clearing cache and data solves the issue !
MAN, finally we got a great HDR!!!
I'm very happy, this HDR IS AWESOME
I've been using the modded Google camera for a couple of days now on RR 5.8.4. I like it a lot! I can hardly believe that the photos, especially with HDR+ on (instead of HDR+ auto) were from my Mix.
Mostly everything works. Panorama, Photo Sphere, Lens Blur all work. I did find a couple of issues, though. The worst one is that the video camera, both in normal and slow motion mode, crashes probably 9 times out of 10. It seems to work, but after the filming is over the app crashes when the video is saved. There is a file saved that is unreadable. This is the only issue that prevents me from making this app my default camera.
A minor issue, that's probably fixable with a build.prop change, is the selfie cam takes upside down photos.
