I had the Atrix before and I liked the separation on volume for my ringtone and notifications. I usually like my ringtone to be louder than my notifications. Does anyone know a way to either separate the two for the Moto X or an app that will be a volume manager for the sounds. I wouldn't think there could be a way since it is built into the system. Otherwise, I get a loud notification which will freak out my family. I found this out when I changed my notification to the TARDIS materializing.
You can separate all volumes with xposed framework + gravitybox.

I did the recent ICS update on my stock VIvid this weekend by downloading from HTC and updating it through my computer. I couldn't get the OTA to install from my phone for some reason.
Anyhow, the overall volume has increased which is a good thing since with GB the volume was rather low.
I can't remember if the Notification Volume was a part of the Ringtone Volume in GB. Can someone with a GB Vivid check for me? I believe it was a separate volume adjustment.
I'm somewhat annoyed with ICS that there are only 3 volume adjustments you can make - (1) Games, Music, etc (2) Ringtone and Notification (3) Alarms. I want to be able to adjust the Notification separately from the Ringtone. Is there any way for this to be done?
Other than that (and losing my games' progress), I am overall satisfied with ICS.
I use an app called PERSIST | VOLUME CONTROL
its free from the market and allows for volume changing for
alarm, media, ringer, notification, system and voice, it also allows you to lock them (this was my main use for the app, I always bump the volume control as I'm used to the rocker being on the opposite side of the screen)

on a similar note, I'm pissed that HTC removed the custom tone selection from their exchange client... I wish I could just get the AOSP exchange client, its so nice, I don't know why htc even bother writing their own
FWIW, in general, in Gingerbread (not sure about "Sense" GB), you could have notification and ringer volumes unlinked. In ICS, these 2 are now linked and you can't unlink them without special apps (some work, some don't) or a custom ROM. Just check out some of the complaints over in the Galaxy Nexus forums about this. I'm not sure why Google made this change.
david, I will check out the app.
co.ag, so I was remembering it correctly - Sense GB had everything separate from each other. I wish Google did not link Notifications to Ringtone. Its just bloody annoying for me to have all the main tones loud. I had everything where I was comfortable with on GB (well, the ringtone could have been louder...heh).
Thanks for the help guys.
I just tried out Persist Volume Control. It does not allow the Notifications to be adjusted independently of the Ringtone. It behaves just like ICS where the two are linked.
Grr....

I have a question about volume on ics and such. Its about the keyboard clicks, lock/unlock tick, the volume levels on gingerbread were very loud and noticeable but on ics you have to hold the speaker to your ear to hear it, is it just the rom i'm running or ics in general?
On a side note volume for everything else is normal and working great.
Anybody might know how to raise the volume level just for the mentioned tones.

Volume Butler
Volume Butler is the best app for separate ringer and notification volumes, and it's free. The app is simply one of the best apps I've ever seen.

Can someone who already has this device comment on the volume of ringtones and notifications?
It's damn loud frightens me to death every time some one rings me

its the loudest handset iv ever had even vid clips sound amazing and loud
but be warned if used as a alarm clock do a sound test first cos mine just woke the whole street up at 5-45am lol:victory:
That's what I like to hear, thanks!
dont find my ringtones that loud it was a lot louder on my galaxy note 2 but music and youtube is way louder
Yeah it's damn loud and for me it is a real issue as you cannot dissociate Ringtones volume and notifications volume.
You'll either have to lower the volume to the point notifications are barely audible or have everyone around you staring at you because your Led Zep Kashmir Ringtones sounds amazingly loud in your office.
If anyone got an idea to dissociate these 2 volumes please shoot
I didn't plan on using another ROM than the stock one but I'm seriously considering it for this very reason.
stock boot up jingle is very loud, its now gone, cos on rooted arhd 3.6
Loud. Too loud for my liking in most instances.

Try using a volume control app, it seperates the ringtone from notification. I have the notification & ringer on 1 (of 7) which is fine.

Have a rooted Dev Edition One. Not being able to set separate volume settings for Ringer and Notification was pretty frustrating. I installed Power Toggles and can now set separate volumes for Ringer and Notification.
I have always used Tasker to change these volumes depending on where I am and the time of day. However, on the One, even though Tasker shows separate volume settings for Ringer and Notification, it sets them both to whatever is the last action. For instance, if I am at work, I set my ringer volume to 1 and notifications to 5. Depending on which one I put first, both volumes get set to the last one set. Any thoughts on how to set these separately using Tasker?
Thanks.

What app are you using?

Just tried around 15 different apps for controlling the volume. Most of them separate the ring and the notifications, until you go back in and they have linked again.
There does not appear to be anyway of unlinking them

Dang it! You're absolutely right. Power Toggles appears to allow the volumes to be set separately, but, when I go back and look, they are set the same. I set my ringer at 1 and notifications at 5 this morning (I use a really quiet notification sound and even at 5, it is not too loud). Was in a meeting at work.. I get a call and the #&%$(*(*$ ringer goes off SUPER LOUD!!! So terribly embarrassing and uncool.
Hard to believe that HTC would have goofed this one. Haven't seen any other phone to date that does not allow setting the volumes independently. If I can't find a fix quickly, this will force me to start flashing custom ROMs. (I really like Sense 5 and had made up my mind to stay stock (albeit, rooted) for at least a few months).
The only app I've found can actually separate and keep the setting is ICS Enhanced Ringer Control (or Volume), it is a paid app, however, after changing system sound profile from normal > silent or vibrate and the phone still rings... I am so frustrating, it is either adjusting the actual notification file volume for a workaround, or install the ICS control app but you will lose the sound profile feature.....
The other alternative is Sound Profile apps that takes over system profile, it separates notification from ringtone and has its own profile widget you can put on your home page for fast switches. It also comes with scheduler that replaced my other sleep silent apps, so finally I picked Sound Profile for all trouble saver, and it is free.

I agree; these suckers are too loud.
To help to deal with this, I installed HandyPhone, which allows me to set any ringtone to become an ascending ringtone. With luck, I can answer before that ringer becomes really intrusive.
Honestly it hurts my ears someyimes because of how loud it is

The strangest thing is happening. If I adjusted the volume for ringtone and notification it does not effect the volume for notifications.. but if I muted the volume for notification and ringtone it.. mutes it lol. The only way I can lower the volume of my notifications is by lowering the media(music) volume....
What the heck

Update: wait.. ok so by controlling the volume using the side control it only effects the volume of the ring tone. But when I hit the gear and adjust the setting labeled "ringtone and notifications" it works. I just tested this. I didn't adjust the volume any higher or lower but just tapped the setting and sent myself a test text and it worked but only when I adjust it manually and not just using the side controls

Anyway to separate the ringtone volume from the notification volume?
Cause seems the 2 things are in 1 only called ringtone, but i want a low volume on notification and high on ringtone
is possible?
On other mobile brand this things are splitted
thank in advance
I couldn't find a way to separately change the levels, I wanted to do the same and couldn't find any way to do it.
Sent from my CLT-L29 using Tapatalk
There is no direct way to do that but you could extract the notification sound you want and reduce the dB by 50% on audacity on PC and add it back to the phone.
any external app can use for this
Only Samsung and LG phones have this feature to unlink ringtone and notification tone volume.
You can use Volume butler app on play store, serves the purpose.
So since pie I hate the fact that my volume buttons only turn the media volume up or down. I have to go into sound settings to change ring volume. Anyone figure out a way to change this?
Sent from my Phone 2 using Tapatalk
no, other devices are just like this too.
Unfortunately that's just how Pie works. It's definitely my least favorite part of Pie. You can change it if you the xposed module Gravity Box. Under media tweak, if you enable Force ring volume control then it return it to pre-Pie controls.
Volume
A-Volume widget is good.
