seems that this person can fix it most of the times.
There is only one way to restore an imei, reflash gb, this will restore if it's purely rom corruption, or restore a backup. I don't understand what you mean by restoring backup didn't work, why?

may be cuz as baz suggested, the backup might not be of a factory condition

factory condition I mean when device is new. Just after you buy it. With no backup of when you had imei, there is no way on getting it back, to my knowledge, without using expensive equiptment and skills like cvxcvx. Samsung itself should be able to do it to.
If you dont mess with device and only do ota/kies updates you dont need it. However when starting to do warrantee breaking stuff like custom roms, even pcodin official ones you need it.
how to: at own risk:
root device, use app like ktool, or alternatives.
Efs backup, is one of the important parts most forgotten as no backup tool does is with other backups.
You can get Samsung, at own risk to fix it too, lol

When you have changed emei youre pretty much screwed. However, a different phone can behave differently. even if same brand model etc. logic is dependant on many variables.
Never seen case of rom corruption changing imei but not efs, with flashback to different rom efs working again. Would be cool if that works for some
No1 you can test that ofc.

If you want to spend money, the z3x box and software can change the imei to what ever you want but the box is $120. I know the box works because my N7000 is using a dumb phone imei. I'm sure there is a way to do it without the box. In using the box, part of it requires flashing GB 2.3.5, so maybe the commands in this video will work worth the 2.3.5, I know they don't on ics.

Then there is this video about an earlier samsung phone.

10 bucks or 120, pick you poison. I wouldn't recommend the 120, cause its pretty difficult to set up, and you only need it once,if your smart lol.
Id recommend to go to Samsung, or cvxcvx as he has good rep on xda and elsewhere.
You might also want to recover pcode if your efs is bust lol. For updatability purposes.
Anyway be careful as it may be illegal to change imei, even if back to original.
If method in first movie works for n7000 its a good find. I wouldn't count on it thought.

No I agree, $120 is pricey, I did it out of expedience and at time I could not find much info about doing it. SoFar I have used it on 4 phones so it was not $120 out the window. When using it, it seems like they are using adb.
As for the OP, he probably just copied his efs folder and then tried to replace it when the orig got fubared. Before I did my mod, I read in a couple of places that just copying the efs folder is hit and miss. I use EFSPro to back up my EFS. I have three different imei's backed up, so if one gets banned, I just connect to a computer and flash another one, 30 seconds and I'm good to go.
Please guys, if your a flashaholic or your going to play with your efs, back it up with a proven app or learn to use DD and backup with it. Link to EFSpro:
Sorry if I've been late on replaying to your comments guys, but I 'm so busy with exams.
When IT will finish I will come back and replay.
and thank you all very much.
If you have warranty then un root flash a stock ROM and head to a service center and feign ignorance. Sweet talk you way through for a free restore. It worked for a friend of mine here in India.

I've unlocked my BL, and I haven't donne the TA backup, now I lost the BE2. :silly:
I tried every thing to get my DRM back, but I was not able to do that.
Dowgrade FW, Sony SUS, Pc Companion.
Now my last hope is some one who has an TA backup up load it to me, so I can try to get the DRM back. :highfive:
If I did not get it back, is there some how to do BE2 work?
Thanks a lot.
You will hard brick your phone if you flash TA from other phone like what happened to me.

It is unique to the phone, do not flash another TA it will brick the phone potentially permanently. There may be a way of restoring BE2 in the future, it has been done on past phones, but for now you will just have to live with it and I wouldn't get your hopes up.

no it doesnt, the color that you view with BE2 is not how it would appear on computer...BE2 make the screen look vibrant and better doesnt improved the actual pictures. BE2 still work with video, and youtube.

If you have a backup of your TA, restore it (this will restore your DRM keys too). Otherwise, use Flashtool to relock (this will not restore your DRM keys). DRM keys are needed for Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2, MusicID/Gracenote, etc.
Thanks Apollo89 I appreciate the help
Hello everybody!
I have decided that I'm going to unlock my Xperia V's bootloader. Perhaps I will do so this weekend.
But I need some information on all this stuff.
First of all, what are the important things to do before unlocking? Like for example backup TA partition and so on. How do I do these things?
Also, can anyone provide me a failure-proof guide on installing an AOSP rom? I think I want to install this Carbon room that appeared today in the XV forums.
I am currently on unrooted stock 4.3 (had some issues with my recovery some time ago, so I had to reset..)
I would also appreciate a summary of what is NOT working currently in the 4.4 roms, and if Kitkat is already stable enough for daily use on our devices.. (And perhaps also what impact an AOSP rom has on performance in benchmarke etc.)
Also, which kernels do you recommend?
I know, it's a lot of questions, but I just want to make sure I don't brick my phone.. It's the first time for me messing around with bootloader unlocks. ^^
Any replies/ helpful links/ advice are greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Ah, I forgot one question...
Does project butter work in 4.4 as well? Is it as smooth as stock 4.3?

root your phone then use Backup-TA-9.10 to backup TA first then go to http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions and follow guide here. so you can unlock very easy
Don't forget that unlocking your phone also factory resets it so backup important stuff first.

Alright.. And to root I'll have to go back to 4.1..
So, is this order correct?
-Optional Backup (don't know how to backup my apps without root tho. :/)
- Flash 4.1 ftf
- Root with Doomlord
- Backup TA
- Unlock BL
- Flash CM kernel (by the way.. How? i have never used this fastboot thing.)
- Enter recovery
- Flash rom zip
Still need some information about these kitkat roms, guys.. Any experiences? Any replies to my questions in op?

Just check the 'Original Development' section. Whatever ROMs people like is down to personal preference/requirements, so we mostly suggest to just try them out yourself

There is no original development section for XV, but I checked several of the kitkat roms' threads.
The people there are complaining about bad standby time.. And that the roms are not suitable for daily use.
Would you agree that kitkat is not yet ready?
I don't care about minor bugs, but that bad battery life or a not working camera (just an example) would not really encourage me to install 4.4

I am so sorry. There are no methods at all to get Bravia Engine back into your phone. TA Backup is important for this feature alone.
Strong warning btw! Do not ever attempt to restore other person's TA backup. I am sure you would still accept a phone without BE rather than a phone that can be thrown away.
:\ okay but this sounds very illogical. Bravia engine is hardware so i am still having it.and i cant use it? bs

Bravia Engine is not a hardware (?). I don't really know where BE resides in the phone. BE won't work without DRM keys. Your DRM keys are lost during unlocking the bootloader.
