If you don't want to go with custom ROM (which would already include root), try installing the deodexed version of the stock ROM, and then flash SuperSU (in recovery) from here: http://download.chainfire.eu/351/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.65.zip
EDIT: if that doesn't work, it might be because you need a kernel with write protection disabled
i have try every things to get root permission but it failed
my bad luck
i have flashed many roms cm,deodex....from different recoveries cwm...twrp....
i used almost every way in xda but all of them failed
i need to get s-off for my device but it also failed
i need some help from xda members
and thanks for that
Use the latest CWM. It worked for me with "recovery-clockwork-6.0.4.6-m7ul.img" and "UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.65.zip"

Updating to 4.2.2 will change your hboot so probably not until a new exploit is found

Yes. Once you have s-off you keep it. So only go back to s-on if you're returning for warranty purposes, or you may not get it back again.

Custom roms no problem
Custom kernels maybe some require S-OFF to flash so read the OP to be sure
Also you will need a custom recovery

Not that I'm aware of. I meant you need to have a kernel that's compatible with your ROM or you'll end up stuck on bootup.
Hi,
I want to re-flash my phone. I have unlocked BL with S-on and CWM.
I just want to flash the WWE stock 4.2.2 rom. I think UK WWE had 2.24.401
Getting little confused about the version numbers (of HTC)
Can some one tell me which zip file I need to use please?
I do not want any custom rom, no root just pure stock Sense 4.2.2 WWE.
Thanks
I would check HTC website for ruu. It should tell u how to relock, restore stock recovery and flash ruu

Kernel resources are for developers for build kernel, not for upgrade the phone.
You've to check your cid and version main for understood when the device will get the ota

The stock 4.3 ROM won't update your firmware (hboot, radio and all the other stuff). You can update that manually even without S-OFF, I've written the instructions multiple times in this forum.
If you install the 4.3 stock ROM and then some other 4.3 ROM, you will accomplish exactly the same thing as if you simply installed the other 4.3 ROM straight away. In other words, installing the 4.3 stock ROM doesn't make any difference at all if you intend to install something else anyway.
ahh I get it. I can't seem to be able to find those instructions that you've posted , tried checking your profile but couldn't find anything.
would also like to clarify , I want to install this custom rom on my butterfly s ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2557441) however I saw that it says Android 4.3 ,will I be able to install it on my phone which is running on android 4.2.2?

I don't see any reason why it shouldn't, but just to be on the safe side, always take a nandroid backup before installing anything. If it does not run, try to install the latest firmware as explained in the post linked above and try again.
