All credits go to @baadnewz for pointing this out. You should also go and check his ROM at the international forum, which has Sprint support http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2279766.
This was a very easy solution to a very annoying problem. If you like me use the phone internationally with a GSM network, you should know that you only get a GSM sign for data.
I have tried a million things to fix that, but the best I came up with was to replace the GSM icons with 3G icons in SystemUI.apk. That had a downside cause you would only get one icon 3G for example.
I am proud to announce that you can get all the international icons .:victory:
Go to /system/customize/AAC with a file explorer like ES File Explorer or Root Explorer and edit the default.xml
Note: The system should be mounted as RW.
Find this line <item type="integer" name="sku_id">10</item>
Change the number to 42 and save
Thank reboot and enjoy your international icons
Again many thanks to @baadnewz for his help:good:
It works!
You are genius, thanks!
Should use root explorer to edit that file, and use rb editor (editor of root explorer)
Awesome!
For anybody having trouble finding it, it's towards the bottom of the file. Around 15 lines up from the last line.
screenshot? Not sure I want to change the icons to something if they are ugly
it's reverting to the first time after restart.
I even edit the Mount R/W on ES File Explorer, and still it's reverting after restart.

The information in this thread was intended to be used by people with a Sprint HTC One(m7). Every manufacturer/carrier has its own system customization options, so unless you've got an HTC device, you are probably not going to find any help here.
Please research your device in the LG G2 forum:

I attempted this on Lollipop, but it did nothing.
Even if I edit it somewhere else and copy it back to the original location, the file gets overwritten with the original value anyways.
i have tryed on lollipop and kitkit as well .. change numbers to 42 save but after restart its back to 10 .
i dont know what the issue i'm following exactly same procedurce ...
P.S phone is rooted and twrp installed
Awesome. Finally getting all the icons instead of just 'G'
It worked !!
 although it took little time and eye sharp attention to find that line but it was worth.. and now wifi and GSM label is changed to international version label .. woo:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed: thanks
it worked but i cant set data usage cycle now
as you can see in the screenshot

Welcome to the world of root!
While what Dave provided is in no way bad or wouldn't help you accomplish what you want, I suggest looking up adb commands.
Check out the main wiki thread in my sig. It will have a thread called "How to Remove Stock Apps, etc."
Once you have looked a little there, post back and let us know if you can't find some information, and we'll gladly help you out.
I've got to agree with Riggs, while Kitchens are nice for people who know what they're doing, I'm a firm beleiver that people just starting out should use ADB as much as possible.
I decided to go back to an AOSP rom cuz I missed its not so bulky behavior, so DD 2.8 it is. My question is can someone give me a quick rundown on how and where to set up my carriers info using root explorer in system /ect /apns . I've tried messing with it but no go. I am on ACS in Alaska and my carrier info is mmsc=mmsc1.acsalaska.net/servlets/mms and port="80" . Another question is I want to remove sprint from lockscreen and other places and put my carrier in it's place, all sense roms I've run did that automatically. Please help.

Hello to all,
I recently tried to purchase the Root Explorer in hopes that it would help me remove a couple of files in order to install some themed markets. I am using a debit card and per my bank, they will not approve debit transaction that are over seas (Root Explorer is in the UK). My question is there a US equivalent that I can use. I need access to system/data/app and need to be able to remove Vending.apk. Please do not suggest ADB pushing as I am unable to get this to work to save my life. Any and all help is appreciated. I do not mind paying for it, just need a non-over seas alternative.
Thanks
You can try EStrong File Explorer it is free and when you get installed open it then go to menu>settings>root options check the box then select HiAPK then select mount now back out you shoulb be able to delete what you need to p

I used Root Explorer - removed vending apk, removed com.android.apk, and removed com.android.vending-1, then I flash a themed market and most of the time the market is not even listed on the phone then - or if it does work, it is short lived and I get a FC....can anyone PLEASE give a step by step way of using Root Explorer to install the themed Market on any one of the themes previously listed....I will buy you a beer, coffee, happy meal, whatever!!!!

Just for fun,
I changed the sound of the lockscreen, it's based on filedeployer from HEATHCLIFF74 so all credits to him, more info HERE.
For unlocked devices only.
How does it work,
Just install the xap LockscreenSound, and after installing your sound is changed, no reset needed.
You can also remove the program from the list but the sound will not revert back to original, if you don't like the new sound and you wanna go back to the original just install the xap LockscreenSoundorg and everything is back to normal.
You can find a short video HERE Thanks to djtonka.
It's only tested on the Nokia Lumia 710 and works well.
If you have other sounds you wanna use, just let me know and I change the xap for you.
Added i-lockscreensound, thanks to bernarduk09
Added StarWarssound, thanks to sumeet.manghnani (unlock = Lightsaber & lock = Darth Vader Breathing)

Just extract the xap file and place the two sound files in SYS/SOUNDS
Greetz,
StarWars this time
I have always thought the "proper" sound for the opening and closing of the phone should be similar to the sound the train signs make in a train station.....that clickety clack sound when it is updating train arrival times. Wish I could find the sound to give to you, but alas I can not yet. This is an awesome app though just for what it does. Great Job!

Nice one Larry, if I can find those files I'll let you know and maybe some other members can help us to find those files.
For now I found this,

Greetz,
I learnt how to change the sound of the lock screen when i came across your post. Nice information provided which many users can learn and make use of it. Even sound files can be extracted from the online and can place the sound files in sounds folder. I hope a Game Developer can easily do these stuffs when compared with normal users.

Yes I know, it's very usefull and an easy way to acces the windows folder on your phone, you can also change your fonts with this xap, I already have a xap finished but having problems to switch back to the original fonts.

Tried to install it but it did not replace the sounds for me
I installed this and it did not replace the sounds for me. I know you said to replace the sounds in the sys\sounds folder, but I cannot seem to find that folder, is there some place else I can look for the sounds to replace them?
Thanks a bunch....this is on a wp7.8 trophy by the way

Sorry, but that message was only for chefs who want to build those sounds into a rom, if you wanna change the xap you have to use a zip program, I use 7Z.
Ok, if you have 7Z just do the folowing.
1. Right click on the xap and choose open archive.
2. Then open the folder .. again and again until you see a folder called windows.
3. Open that one too
4. Now you see the two soundfiles (unlock.wav and lock.wav)
5. Just replace those soundfiles with your own soundfiles but keep in mind that you use the name unlock and lock.
6. Save all the changes and your xap is ready.
If you still having problems to create the xap don't hesitate to contact me by pm or in this thread.
Success,

This Is My First Shot at making something for this device,so please bear with me.
This Is A Custom Stock ROM that has been debloated and slimmed down a bit to my personal liking.
ive used SuperR's Kitchen on Ubuntu to bring this to you guys.
i used Captain_Throwbacks Metro Base ROM as a starting point.
i will include my list of apps that i have removed in the second post.
i would suggest a factory reset and dalvik/ART wipe
as always,if your device explodes or stops working,i assume no responsibility for any damages or data loss.
flash at your own risk.
if anyone has any suggestions and/or input, please feel free.
im no developer, just taking a shot at this.
the goal is to remove as much bloatware as possible, whilst maintaining stability.
:highfive:
i added /data/app support as well as busybox & deodexed the ROM.
im currently uploading my first build to google drive and will share links shortly.
bear with me as i dont have the best internet connection.
DeZiREv5K
OP Updated with newer build.

Just looking at channel log I'm assuming this is still relevant. I'm on V3 and with some frustration (I don't have Wi-Fi and had to trick my 6yr old laptop to boot up) I got it running well.
As someone who has hard bricked smart phones since the xv6800, this is a first good go. Inspires me to start cooking my own roms.
Suggestion: A file browser would have made it so much smoother. No one with half a brain will ***** about es file explorer or root browser being cooked in. Fortunately bad habits inspired me to always backup original stock. Most people would've been screwed there. Dirty flash. Pdanet. Got it all up and going.
Keep up the good work. Look forward to any tweakings you find out of my league

Any advice?
Thanks

This ROM is based off of the original Stock MetroPCS USA variant,i didnt add anything that would potentially affect your simlock status.ive only removed stuff that was already there.
If youre not in the US and youre not using MetroPCS Variant of the phone, you shouldnt be flashing this ROM to be 100% honest.flashing incompatable firmwares across devices can sometimes lead to bricks.whats your Carrier and device?

That APK will just crash,as the required lib files etc to accompany the APK are missing.

I agree. It's very unusual.
I got this phone from a local phone shop. The owner seem to have unlocked the phone with some kind of service. I contacted my carrier who wrote down a couple of numbers from inside the phone (including the original phone number) and boom, I was able to use the phone with my number.
I have a theory about the error. Maybe you could see if that makes sense:
Maybe the phone isn't locked. But after a factory reset it keeps trying to "activate" the phone using the methods given by sprint.
There's this one step during the initial setup (right after factory resetting the phone) where it tries to register the phone, and fails. This step takes at least tem minutes and returns an error that locks up the phone.
I think the phone assumes that it's locked because it's not able to "reach" sprint servers and denies all incoming and outgoing calls/messages because of this.
If you know a way out of this please let me know.
Another user also provided me with an app that seems to be solving the issue. But it's not marshmallow compatible. Any ideas on that one as well?
Thanks a lot. And great debloating work you did there

Again, what is your Carrier?if youre using anything other than MetroPCS USA,you should not use this ROM.thats #1.#2 is if youre using sprint, you should get the RUU to return the phone to factory software, and i assume youre using sprint because our Metro devices havent gotten MM yet,and you mentioned it.
And yes,CDMA/Sprint phones will not work correctly if theyre not provisioned from the carrier correctly.so if the activation is failing, then youre not going to be able to use the device to send messages etc until its activated correctly.
Suggestion, try using nightbreeds MM ROM thats for those kinds of carriers.

Oh lesson learned. I'm from Yemen and my carrier is YemenMobile (CDMA). I don't know why but I assumed that the phone won't mind the ROM since it was kinda unlocked. SORRY.
The phone was saying Sprint when I bought it. I think I'm going to get back to factory and see if that does the trick. :-/
My extended apologies
