Wierd Problems

Ok so I rooted my phone as well as partinoned my SD card (I have an 8 GB now) a while back and now I am having problems with my SD card. The other day my phone gave me a message saying that my Sd card was not supported and that I needed to format it. Stupid me I did that on my computer and wiped everything of of it. My friend who also has a rooted G1 got my phone to restore the CM but now everything is saving to my phone again. I tried to part it again and it says that nothing is found. Any ideas on what I did and what I can do to get everything back to the way it was when it was working correctly?
Also my phone started doing this other weird thing where I'm viewing anything and im scrolling through whatever the screen timesout eventhough I'm touching it. Anything to help with this aswell?
Thank you guys so much for the help!
I lost ya when you said you tried to part it again but nothing is found. Did you partition the card and no apps are found or you couldn't partition the card.
I tried to partition the card again but there was no data found and I couldn't partition it.
If you can't even partition it then you have a bad card brother. The strange behavior could be a symptom of the ext partition failing. I'm assuming you have a swap partition but don't actually use it with a user.conf file otherwise a failing card would cause your phone to completely freeze.

[Q] Help! Corrupted internal SD Card and can't find a way to wipe

First, some background:
I've had the S for 2 months now and about a month ago I applied JG5/Modaco r2 and Mimocam lag fix. All was well, 1800+ benchmark figures and no lag at all. That was until a few days ago....
As I was reading on the device, a number of errors started to pop up, force closes, etc. It stopped responding completely so I took the battery out and rebooted. Straight away I was hit with multiple force close and 'process stopped unexpectedly' messages. Basically, it was an unusable brick.
When I took the SD card out the errors were different so, figuring it was related to the Mimocam fix, I decided to undo it. I removed the symlink to the sd card and copied everything to the local data directory.
That didn't work, so I did a hard reset. Which also didn't work. Worse than that, I now can't get the phone to connect in any way to the PC so can't reflash and I can't access any settings on the phone because the error messages keep appearing and obscuring the screen.
Last thing I tried was repartitioning the SD card to see if the ext3 partition was corrupt and that hasn't helped either.
Which is where I am now. What I really want to do is wipe the internal SD and effect a total factory reset but I can't think of any way to do it. I can't access the phone through adb (device not found), Kies (keeps trying to connect but never does) and I can't do it through the phone. I also can't send it back because it has 'flashed rom' written all over it, especially when a root request pops up in the background.
I'm all out of ideas, short of trying to degauss it somehow.
Help! Please!
You cant get it into download mode ?

Or recovery mode: format sd card, clear cache etc ?
Turn the phone off, hold Home + Vol -, then press Power.
I don't see how you can get error messages there...
Doesn't work, I can't get it in to recovery mode. Neither vol up or down work using the 3 button hold. I've tried repeatedly and it just boots as normal, although the animation doesn't display while it boots but it does play the audio.
So I take it I'm f***ed then?
bumping this up and subscribing. I hope you find a solution soon, man.
if you know what your firmware was, get it from samsung-firmwares, get odin, and flash your phone. maybe that will solve your problem.
Keep in mind that I wont be responsible if your phone gets bricked if you mess up the procedure (however the chances of it being bricked is very less if you follow the instructions properly).
search the forum for flashing via odin.

He said he cant get it into download mode so would be quite hard to flash with odin then...
No, I've tried over and over and d/l mode doesn't work. The phone just reboots.

Try the Vol + Recovery mode. The timing is a bit tricky.
On my phone, if I keep Vol+, Home and Power button held down, the phone goes into a reboot loop (it keeps showing the logo, blank, logo, blank). After the logo appears the 2nd time, wait 1 second then release the Power button. Then it goes into the Recovery mode.
If you can't get it to work, try it without the USB/power plugged in as well.
Tried settings/sd card and phone storage/unmount internal sd/format? Or u could do settings/security/factory reset
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
I can't really try that because, as I said, I can't get past any of the error messages that pop up on the phone.
Have had to bite the bullet and take it in to T-mo for a repair and hope they don't notice
Will find out in 28 days.
I had a similar problem with JPC. After a while both the internal and external sd cards crapped out. After pulling the external sd and many tries I was able to boot into recovery mode where it says something like E: cant mount etc.
After pulling the ext sd card I was able to get into download mode and downgrade to JM7 with odin. After formatting with odin. It took two tries.
I still don't have access or storage on both the int and ext sd. I have roughly 2gb storage on the internal non-sd memory of the phone (i am not sure what it is but its enough to run android and I can make calls).
I can't install apps use the camera or anything that uses either of the sd cards for storage.
I did try a new sd card that was installed on the phone when it was stock FW but it doesnt work either.
I have a thread posted about it.

am wondering, did your phone ever work with the three button mode to enter download/recovery ? or did you always flash using "adb reboot recovery" ?

It is posted in several threads in all of the 19000 forums that there is no fix for this. Your only option is to send it in for repair.

it would be nice if there was a way.
I agree with Electroz.
there is a new software out by Samsung
new PC Studio, it comes with a feature to "Emergency Restore"
you can try that, and see if that does anything to the internal SD
links are on the SGS wiki, click my link

I'll give it a shot, downloading now.
I'm not sure where to send my phone in, I called samsung, they sent me to bell, but I bought my phone from best buy and I'm with fido...
It sees both drives, but that's about it, when I try to click on them it just says "insert the disk into drive ..."
There has to be a way to format the internal card with a third party application. I'm gonna keep looking.

[Q] External sd card won't mount

After every time I restart my phone and it turns back on my phone will never automatically mount my sd card, so I have to go into setting and manually mount it myself which normally isn't a problem but every once in a while my phone won't let me mount it, when i click on the mount sd card button, it goes to another screen that has a title Reset? and the whole screen is blank. I have reset the phone, taken the sd card out, I have done everything that has normally worked in the past to get it to remount but this time nothing will work. Has anyone else had this problem, or any suggestions how to fix it?
Thanks
Same problem here

Sorry, no help for you, but I have the same problem here. Started just a few days ago. I haven't made any changes to my settings that I know of that could have caused it. Anyone have any suggestions for getting back the ability to mount the SD card?
Yup, me too, just rooted my phone trying to get cifs manager (cifs.ko) installed and working with my win7 machine (no luck w/that yet either)... since then the external sdcard unmounts from time to time and restarting the phone requires a manual mount
Fixed?
What I had to do was basically move my entire sd card on to my computer then I formatted my sd card put only my necessary things back on there and it fixed it, stupid but it got it to mount right away...oh and I formatted it though the phone erase function not using the computer, so I didn't have to take the sd card out again.
Tried the erase all, but no luck... I suspect it's related to installing busybox... tried unistalling that without success too... would installing another ROM likely fix that, and if so any recommendations?
Talking about an HTC vivid
I'm having the same issue, except it partially mounts the external card (only shows a couple of folders but not the /music folder with 2100 songs along with 4-5 other folders)...Only way I have been able to fix it is to connect it to the PC as a disk drive then disconnect it, then all the folders "reappear".
If I put the card in my tablet I have no issues.
I tried a new card but the problem is still there.
Any help or suggestions?

Good Evening OP,
I had a problem like this earlier today. I finally rooted and flashed a new rom (PACman). I used CWM as my recovery, and apparently this is part of the issue. You need to use TWRP for your recovery instead. Their website is at http://teamw.in/project/twrp they have instructions located there on how to install TWRP onto your Vivid. I used the fastboot method, then changed the settings in the 'Mount' tab to mount SD Cart, Internal and Use External SD. Worked like a charm. And since it's touch based no more using the volume rockers and power button... Hope this helps! By the way http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2109140 had the initial lead to install TWRP instead of CWM.

SD Card 'Damaged' If I start phone whith it inserted. (chkdsk, format etc not helping

:crying: Yesterday I spent almost 24hrs battling problems while downgrading to kitkat and installing a pre-rooted zip of 5.1.1 lollipop.
Eventually, with the help of the good people here at xda, I got it done and working fine, or so I thought.
After installing the pre-rooted zip, everything seemed good but after waiting a while I restarted the phone, to make sure everything was OK before I started re-installing stuff.
I restart the phone and BAM "Damaged SD Card. SD Card is damaged, try re-formatting it".
So I let it Format - doesnt try to format it.
I Physically remove and re-insert the card, and THEN it lets me format it and it starts working. Then I restart the phone and BAM, same thing.
***After Lots of trial and error, I have narrowed it down to something which is happening at system startup.***
I know this because If I remove the card while the phone is off, then start up, then reinsert the card it works fine!
If I remove the card before the phone switches off, and insert it BEFORE I switch the phone on I get a 'damaged' sd card.
I have tried chkdsk, formatting, partitioning, formatting through windows(quick and normal format), nothing helps. IF MY CARD IS IN THE PHONE WHEN I START/RESTART THE PHONE, IT SAYS 'DAMAGED' - even though its not.
If I start the phone with it inserted it says'damaged'... but If I then remove the card, restart the phone and then re-insert IT WORKS FINE.
When It says 'damaged' I can remove and re-insert and it still says 'damaged' BUT If I remove, then reboot, then re-insert it works again.
IF I BOOT INTO SAFE MODE WITH THE CARD INSERTED I GET SAME ERROR/BEHAVIOUR
So something is happening on system startup which is causing this problem. Does anybody here know whats happening? After so many problems with the downgrade/root process, this is driving me crazy. And to top it all off, My XZ Dual recovery no longer works after that first reboot - WTF (I'm hoping a re-install will solve this but for now I need to fix the SD Problem )
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks for your time.
EDIT: KitKat install was clean, wiped everything. While on kitkat I installed 2 busybox installers, root checker basic and busybox itself. After flashing the pre-rooted 5.1.1 I DID NOT wipe cache/dalvik as I was afraid of losing root :embarassed: sureley this is not the problem?!? as booting into safe mode doesnt help!?
I think the two problems are probably not unrelated (SD card problems and XZDR not working). Obviously, XZDR runs on every boot and it does try to touch the external SD card. It could be breaking something.
What brand and model and size SD card? Android, and specific phones, can be very finicky. It's possible (but not likely) that 5.1.1 broke support for your SD card somehow.
Did you have to format it specially the very first time you used it with the phone? For example, I had to hack my 64GB SDXC card to be a bigger-than-actually-allowed FAT32 partition for the phone to play ball.
Can you reproduce any weirdness with the card in a PC? Maybe the card actually has a problem and you can RMA it.
What happens if you format the SD card after boot so that it works, then eject it, then reboot the phone without the card in, and insert the card after install? It should mount fine at that point if it really is something in the boot process. If it does work, without rebooting, reinstall XZDR and see how that goes.

First off... thanks again for the help.
Secondly, I just got a chance to re-install xzdr and....*drumroll please* ...IT WORKED
:highfive: :good: :good: :good:
I cant believe this whole process went so smoothly; usually I run into a few little problems
Anyways, I'm not sure what went wrong with XZDR... it installed and worked fine on kitkat and the pre-rooted 5.1.1 included XZDR flashable which also installed and worked fine but only on the first boot.
Regardless...recovery installed fine again and now my sd card mounts fine on startup. rebooted a dozen times, switched off and cold booted a few more times... no problems with SD Card on boot. well happy.
Thanks again for all the tips and advice mate, much appreciated.
As you suggested, I'll pay it forward as my knowledge improves/returns and if and when my money situation improves: I'll chuck a couple of beer tokens your way.
cheers fella

How does Android MM, 'Use SD as internal memory' work, and how to prevent data loss?

Hi, I just upgraded yesterday my XT1068 to Android MM (Nexus Experience [http://goo.gl/Qc87Q7]).
And I was delighted to see the option to use my Samsung MicroSD card as internal memory. I installed all the apps I use frequently, restarted the phone and everything was fine till here.
I formatted my micro SD as internal memory, copied music, pictures and stuff using MTP to my SD, installed several apps and uninstalled some other that I didn't need anymore (Like 'Facebook Lite'). Wanted then to restart my phone to recovery mode, but it was restarting for ever and stuck with the rebooting animation, so I decided to press the power button for 3-5 sec to force shutdown the phone. But when my phone started again, everything I copied to the SD was gone, and files I removed were there again, apps like 'Facebook Lite' were mysteriously installed again as if I would have never uninstalled them.
In the launcher, all my icons and folders I organized, reverted to the positions and state I had before, last time I restarted my phone (before the forced restart when I lost the data).
What happened here? Looks somehow as if the partition table is being written back to the SD or phone memory when you are turning off the phone.. and remains in RAM during use.. Seriously?
Did such a thing happen to anybody else here? Is this how the new Android works? Every time your phone crashes or something, you'll loose all pictures and data that changed since last restart?..
Any information on this is highly appreciated.. Thanks.

i have a similar situation with my sd card and my xt1063, at the beggining i choose the option which makes the sd to save files and media. today the phone turned off because the battery was empty, at the time that i tried to turn on the phone it says that the sd card need format and now when i connect the sd card to the pc it is in RAW format. i think that the new system for "initializating" sd cards is broken or something, or simply we have bad luck or else.
edit: i have stock android 6.0 retla
sorry for my english pls
