[Q] What is "MightyText" in accessibility - Sprint HTC One (M7)

IF you go to the accessibility settings, it gives you the option to turn on mightytext...What is this? I don't have the mightytext app installed so

maybe enlarges your texts if you don't see well?

It allows to to send & receive texts from your pc or tablet using your current android phone number.

Don't you need to have the "mightytext" app installed for that function?

It's possible it was part of such said Rom.

Sorry, I should have been more clear.
This is on the stock ROM. Sense 5.0, Android 4.3. The "MightyText" option in accesbility settings was available BEFORE I installed the mightytext app.

WARNING: Android 4.4 KitKat on Nexus 7 (2012) 3G disables sms.

[EDIT: Linked thread from Nexus 7 (2013) forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2531897]
Hi,
I'm the developer of 8sms.
It seems that sms no longer works on the Nexus 7 3G if you upgrade to Android 4.4.
In the past, some people have been able to use sms on their tablets by downloading and installing a third party sms app (such as 8sms). Even though there is no stock messaging app with the ROM (and AFAIK, this is not an official feature), this has generally worked.
However, Android 4.4 KitKat on the Nexus 7 3G takes away this feature.
In Android 4.4, a messaging app must be set as the "default sms app" so it can be allowed to save new messages to the phone's message database. In other words, a messaging app must be the default sms app in order to operate fully.
In the Nexus 5 (and Android emulators), there is a setting Settings » ... » Wireless » Default sms app which allows you to choose your default sms app.
In the Nexus 7 3G, this setting DOES NOT EXIST.
(This is according to what one user of 8sms has told me. )
It seems that the "default sms app" is not supported on the Nexus 7. In other words, you cannot set an app to be the default sms app. That means it is not possible to use an sms app.
Can some other readers confirm this?
If confirmed, this is a LOSS OF FUNCTIONALITY.
You are right. Sms does not work at all on kitkat on my N7 LTE
Even hangout does not have SMS feature
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Agreed, I was the one to originally alert this OP to the issue. Incoming SMS triggers a notification in the tray that leads only to a pop-up dialogue. After dismissing it, the OS does not save the incoming SMS anywhere and installed clients cannot see it.
Same with my nexus 7 LTE. I have tried different sms apps but the outcome is the same with android 4.4 (everything was fine with 4.3.1)
Anyone has a working solution for this ?
i have wifi nexus 7 2012 so cant any thing for sure but i think google changed sms in 4.4 sms are integrated with hangouts so download go sms (i think they have updated their app for 4.4) and report back.

On Nexus 7 the Hangouts App doesn't have such feature...
Even some guy before me mentioned this :silly:
Right, the issue is that the OS builds for Nexus 7 are barring SMS apps from participating in Kitkat's usual way of doing SMS, and there's no default app to rely on.

It is such a shame... I have not upgraded yet. I use 8sms. I hope there is a way to enable it.

What a mess. Google needs to take a step back and stop trying to force us to use hangouts.

I haven't updated my N7 to 4.4 yet so this may just be a false hope, but has anybody tried something like the following yet? (root is required)
1. Use TitaniumBackup or other tool to freeze the Simple Message Reciever app, (if 4.4 still has it. It may be called something else now.) This is what shows the message dialog for incoming texts.
2. Install 8sms and set it to run in standalone mode.
If that doesn't work then I would try injecting the MMS.apk from one of the ROMs based on 4.4 AOSP and see if it will take on the role of default SMS/MMS handler.

I wonder if, like the missing tethering feature, it can be restored by unhiding the SMS select menu via a modification of the framework apk?

I think this is an avenue worth pursuing.
I don't think Google intentionally disabled sms on the Nexus 7. To me, it seems more like their build scripts doesn't list sms as a feature, and this was just a side-effect.
Unfortunately, I don't have a cellular Nexus 7 so I'm very limited in what I can contribute to this discussion.

And I do have one but I have no developer type experience.
Have you posted a thread about this on the N7 2013 forum? That might attract more attention too.
So this might be a stupid question, but this has nothing to do with MightyText right? In other words, MightyText should still work since it's not the tablet receiving the sms but the phone right?
@OP, From where you got Kitkat update for Nexus 7 3G. As i haven't received OTA yet also [REF] Nexus 7 Stock OTA URLs doesn't list Kitkat build for 3G version.
Also does this update disables 3rd party SMS for N7 2012 version only or is applicable to current generation N7 as well?

Right, MightyText for tablets is just an interface with a phone and does not use the tablet's phone number.

Google has posted stock factory images for KitKat on Nexus 4, 7 (2012 and 2013) and 10. These can be flashed in fastboot, and there are also flashable zips on the forum based on these factory images. Others on this thread have reported loss of SMS on the 2013 version as well.

So that means Google has intentionally added code to block us from using third party SMS apps.
So we can start petition to get messaging working on nexus 7 or wait for developers to find some workaround to send / receive sms.
I believe in 2nd option more

It's the very first option under SMS/MMS settings...
From the messaging app (make sure you not inside of a message) click the menu button then click settings..at the top click the middle button that says SMS/MMS
I had a lot of android phones HTC's; Samsung's and really know where to find the delivery report check-box bu the problem is that in my setting there is no this option at all

Yes thats really odd, I didn't purchased this phone from official dealers or store, I have checked and its not a Fake Note 3 but this is something weird.
How could I check is it custom ROM or not? maybe its because of ROM ? but in "about device" everything looks official

Same screenshot I have for SMS/MMS. Official N900A, purchased through official retail channel, stock, unrooted, Messaging app, shipped with MJ5. No delivery receipt option.
My wife's, shipped with MI9, same retail channel, OTAd to MJ5, same thing - no delivery receipt.
Very strange.

The AT&T version cannot be flashed right now due to a locked bootloader. Therefore it is impossible to have a custom ROM installed without it running Safestrap which you would see at bootup if it was as it would ask which ROM you wanted to boot with. The CUSTOM lock simply means you are rooted and nothing else. You do not have a special phone or anything.

Galaxy J SC-02F
Hello ,
I have a Galaxy J from DoCoMo Japan wich is very close to the Note 3 features , bought it on the online market ,
was not rooted and region locked . I've manage to root the device and to region unlock it with Chainfires unlock app ,
now its working on Europe and even with LTE. Conversations , SMS and mobile data.
But I don't have MMS options in the stock message app , don't have video call in the stock ROM dialer and don't have
any Delivery reports options in the Message settings screen .
My screen looks exactly as the sent picutres on the previous page , but without the MMS options.
The ROM is the stock DoCoMo ROM where I've managed with titanium backup to freeze all the crap. (about 28 usless system apps)
Hints , tips , advices would be welcome.
Thank you.

sms and calll blocker on 5.1 nexus 6

Hi,
I have a nexus 6 with Afirewall blocker installed with lollipo 5.1 .Before the update when i was on 5.01 i used to be able to type in a code to get to the firewall and see my text and calls that were blocked etc. Now with the update if i have a normal sms come through, once i put the code in , it just takes me to the sms screen and not the Afirewall blocker.
Is there another way to block sms and calls on 5.1?

I haven't found any decent working SMS blocker for Android 5.x... they all need to be your default SMS app which kinda sucks. The only SMS app with a usefull blocking feature is Handcent SMS but it is way too big for a simple SMS app. Textra's blocking feature is really bad and hard to use. Especially when you want to add e.g. 60 numbers to the blacklist.. it will take you.. 1 hour?

This is how I've always done it. Make a contact named whatever you want then add all numbers you want blocked to that contact. Then check all calls to voicemail. Works perfect. I have no voicemail setup either.
Keep in mind is you flash a new rom and google redownloads all your contacts you will need to check that box again.
No, I don't want the calls going to VM. I want them to be rejected.

Doesn't give me that option...
Cataclysm Rom in Original Development has a built in call blocker that works great. It picks up and hangs up on the caller. You don't even know it's happening. All my annoying calls have stopped!

T-Mobile vs Verizon?
Here is what I get...
It does not look like you are running stock Android. Install the Google phone app. It includes call blocking.

I thought 6.1 stock phone app has that built in now.

For me worked on my EVA-AL10 that you create a widget from whatsapp (the first one with the unread messages) and put it on your homescreen. Now WhatsApp is forced to run in Background and you receive the push notifications.

What other apps do you have ? I think it works with every app that has widgets. I suggest that you make a page with all the widget for the apps.
For me the problem sovled after i debranded my EVA-AL10 to L-09 and flashed BluWei. So I think the problem only existed with the Chinese Rom.
Other methods:
Try Settings>Apps>Settings>Special Access>Ignore Battery Optimization. On the dropdown select all apps and search Whatsapp and click on it. Then select allow. Now it should run in the background.
The last thing that i remember doing is turning Whatsapp (or any other app) in a system app. You need root and i used the app "/system/app mover":
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.j4velin.systemappmover
Just click on the app you want to convert and press ok. Then reboot your phone. The only problem i had was that the /system partition wasn't very big so i could only convert like one or two apps (this changes with different phone/system versions)
If this doesn't work I would recommend installing an other rom like Magic Rainbow, Moonlight, Bluwei (all emui based) if its a big problem for you
