Changing DPI - Moto X Q&A

Any success with changing the DPI?

Do u mean DPI of the entire systemui or just on an app by app basis?
Haven't attempted whole UI but have successfully done per app basis using xposed framework and "app settings" extension... Works like a charm!

Yeah, system wide. I use App Settings too. If you change it system wide, I can't get Active Display to work properly.

Did u enable system wide by adjusting the app settings DPI for systemui.apk? Or some other method? Maybe try changing systemui.apk app setting? I would try but I'm out at the moment and can't handle my phone possibly going bonkers if I change something that shouldn't be changed lol

I changed the build.prop--which is system wide.

What method is working to change DPI of whole system??

I tried build prop editor from the app store, and no luck. I'd like to investigate further on this, but no twrp or cwm to make quick backups. I've experienced before non-boots when adjusting DPI and the system not accepting it.

At the moment... I am using Apex launcher changing the size of icons. This Is not the solution, but it works.

Yeah, I was doing the same with nova. Using app settings to modify individual apps works though. 240dpi seems perfect.

Just a heads up. I modified systemui.apk using App Settings. It worked, but there were gapps between the app borders and the status bar. Not appealing.
Does anyone know what the .apk is for the active notifications? Even when I disable the active notifications the screen still locks up. Eventually I'll figure this out!

Use Xposed App Settings. I can change the DPI per app, and if you want to change the DPI system wide, you just modify SystemUI.apk's DPI; or, use a build.prop editor. However, systemwide messes up active notifications.

I used app settings to change to 300 dpi on systemui and 280 on my Launcher. 280 on systemui was causing graphical errors.

[Q] how to change HTC one dpi?

Can anyone point me in the direction of an app that can change the resolution or dpi of the htc one? To me everything is just too big for the size. Having 1080p screen and huge icon doesn't make sense to me.

Or you could install xposed framework with app settings module..
you aware that you need root for that, right?
I use two tools for that. Changing the DPI for the whole system can be done for example using Rom Toolbox Pro. (Performance -> build.prop Editor -> swipe to the left -> LCD Density)
This actually brakes Play Store, therefore i use the app settings module for xposed framework to give that specific app the original DPI so that i can download updates and stuff.
Sorry for the late reply, I just notice that my email address is wrong which is why I never received the notifications. Anyone I notice that sense does not play well with the dpi chances. Everything gets jammed up in the top left corner of the screen, So its more like the sense launcher does play well with dpi changes which sucks.

[Q] Change DPI in GPE

Is it possible to change dpi in ARHD 5.1? Tried it but somehow got a boot loop.

There is an Xposed Framework module called App Settings that will allow you to change the DPI for apps on an individual basis. Also lets you change the app layout eg phone, phablet, tablet.
I think if you change the DPI for "Android System" it will change it across the board.
It's like PA's Hybrid Settings, but not as pretty to look at when using.

Increased Pixel Density but Camera app won't fill screen

Hi everyone!
Just got my GN4 and rooted it. So I like a higher pixel density, and lowered it from default 640 to 480, but the camera app won't fill the screen. It's a small window in one corner and black on the rest. Been trying to figure this out for a few hours and would appreciate some help. Hoping I don't have to figure out how to decompile the app and recompile.
Thanks in advance!
You'll need to use a xposed mod like app settings to change the lcd density of stock apps back to 640. Most apps scale automatically, generally stock Samsung ones don't like camera, contacts, and so on.

Thanks! I'll give that a try!
This worked great! Only the lockscreen is refusing to cooperate but I can deal with that! thanks a million!

[Q] Is there an setting in app setting to change all user dpi at once?

It's pretty annoying doing 100+ apps one by one. is there a way to do all user apps in one go?
Change global DPI in build.prop, then restore the original one for Play Market, Play Services and Google Services Framework in App Settings.

I don't see global dpi closest I see is led density.
In rom tool box, or some other method, edit the build.prop to your desired density. DPI and density, to my knowledge are relative. Hope that answers your question.
Tl;dr build.prop -> LCD density -> #

Download the app texdroider from play store and set your global DPI in there. Then as said above change DPI some specific apps in app settings.
The app just makes the same changes to build.prop but its easier IMO

Yes that's what I did before but that also changes the dpi of the launcher and omega doesn't support multi dpi. I just want to change the dpi of all the apps I've downloaded.

Changing DPI Lollipop

I've recently upgraded to 5.0.1 on my N910H. I always previously changed my DPI, but without (yet) Xposed App Settings to sort out the misbehaving apps, I was worried about Lollipop.
I've now changed my DPI to 480 and TouchWiz Lollipop is at this DPI is not too bad.
What doesn't look correct:
Launcher
Camera
Dailer
What does look great:
Pretty much everything else including
Floating SMS
Contacts
Logs
Calculator
Samsung Keyboard
Lockscreen
Settings
I can live with the dialer and camera looking odd until either Xposed is fixed for TouchWiz or someone mods it. You also use Google Camera instead. For the launcher I use Nova.
How do you change your DPI to 480 ?
Is there a special root tool ? Or manual on the config ? If config, what did you change ?

Change it in the build prop text. I use root explorer but I am sure most file explorers will work too
Right, I changes it with "ROM tool box" but a lot off apps looks strange no alternative to app settings for me
The camera app's dpi you can adjust with "App Settings", available for download as an xposed module. I've set it the camera app dpi back to 640 and that works like a charm.
I've been using nova launcher for some time now and had no problems with changing overall dpi.
The dialer on the other hand still looks "odd" . Still looking for a solution for that but as you also said: "i can live with that"
Edit:
I've been to quick . There are/were compatibility issues between xposed and lollipop, not sure if app settings works with lollipop

Which apps look strange? For me it's only the dialer and Camera.
