I know there is another thread about Android for TP2 but it is a [poll] thread and 98% want it so let's make this happen! Together we WILL have Android on this great device!
I seriously want to be the first person on this thread to thank you guys for working on this. I cant wait to see what comes from this!
Subscribed! Will be checking in!
I'm waiting for the Android port too. Thanks to all those people working on it! Hopefully it will be done as soon as possible because I can't wait till I can run Linux on my Rhodium.
did i sell you that touchpro 2? dan from b-town?
Thank you guys in advance for your great efforts, and look forward running Android on my TP2
Can't wait.
Me 2!!!!!!!!!!!!1

What's up pimpin I was going to bring it back in already but might as well give it another week lol This with Android is going to be ill!
I love ANDROID
Cool stuff.....
I love Android
Props for starting the thread....
BUT....
I CANT STAND AMERICAN STREET SLANG!!!!
ITS DUMBING DOWN THE WORLD AS IT EATS IN EVERY TV SHOW AND RADIO BROADCAST!
Kids in London all walking around "word up pimpin'?"
Word UP PIMPING!!! PIM<PING!!!!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I mean - pimps are a BAD part of society. They are only there because of the stupid laws that mean there is no such thing as a SAFE LEGAL sex worker.
But Android WILL ROCK!!!
id like to help but i havent programed in 6 years... and i kind of fail at using linux on my laptop. (so i use windows) i havent yet used android but i assume its alot better a os then winmobile... wm6.5 ect makes me wish i has symbion on my phone at times... just because of how laggy it is.
This thread is great, but could someone post a quick status update? Ideally, the first post should indicate a few main points so people don't have to read all of the chatter to find the basic info.
A few things that would be nice to have on post #1:
Overview of project
Status
Blocking issues
Help needed from community
(dare I say) ETA?
Is this just a wishful thread or is something really happening ?
+ for the project.
i agree with paulbram!!
For a fully working Android port to TP2 I would definitely donate some cash!
And probably more than me would do the same.
I just got my TP2 last week. Must say that i am liking. Anyways wanna give out a shout out to all my peeps, chuck up the deuce and to all them chicken heads out there, keep flapping your gums!
p.s. ^ that was just a joke. But hopefully we do get some developing going on with this badboy.
Please keep in mind those of us on CDMA networks!
Thanks!

Here here. I'm brand new to this stuff for phones, but I have a ton of linux/windows experience and an HTC tp2 so if you need me to break (ok hopefully not) my (CDMA) phone testing something, I'm down.
Who is actually doing work on this? I mean, we can have a thread about this and talk all day, but if nobody works on it. Wish I had the knowledge to program this..
Not just a wishlist
this thread was started because the other 30 pages posted were on a poll thread...cr2 i think is to a point where he/she is now lab testing. i think the got dumps from both GSM & CDMA.anyway, i can't wait to get this port...
Maybe it's time to split "Kaiser ROM development" to "Windows Mobile ROM development" and "Android development"?
Now it's two independent way..
Would be nice..it's incredible the amount of Android development that's going on, some really great stuff is happening. I seem to recall an effort to make this happen before that failed, but now with this new explosion of activity, maybe it can happen! I'm all for it.
yeah it's really hard to go into the rom dev forum and search the work andriod.

I don't know... As long as there aren't standalone roms for android it's just senseless to have a seperated board-section imo.
hmm..
now it's only one problem to do standalone ROM: there is no nand-bootloader for kaiser
now we can boot from NAND
so, what promlems to split forum?
good idea man
I agree.
Poll?
One of the mods should definitely put this up to a vote--the Kaiser is an extremely popular device with an active forum, and now that we have a working NAND bootloader and more active Android development than ever, now is definitely the time.
I have mentioned this in Mod forum and i sit on both sides of the fence over this as the Kaiser ROM section has got slower so don't see that it's a problem having android in same place as it makes it still have traffic in the forum, but then at the same time maybe maybe it would be easier for users having the split..
Not promising anything just put the point forward.
My 2 cents?
I have seen fads come and go in this forum. Android is not native to the Kaiser and therefore takes quite a bit of tweaking to make it work. The Kaiser is an older platform and getting older by the day. People are all hot and heavy after Android on their Kaisers for now, but believe me, just as soon as a new section is created, the enthusiasm will wane. Those that want Android will not be satisfied with a hacked version on their Kaisers and will move to Android Devices and development will slow and stop.
Examples ?
The bounty on improved Kaiser drivers, people just moved on to devices with better graphics drivers. Development stopped and as far as I know , the bounty was never collected.
TF3D on the Kaiser, again development was hot and heavy for a while, roms with hacked TF3D for the Kaiser were cooked, but since it was not native and took a bit of tweaking to get it to work, The roms stopped and when was the last thread you saw about TF3D on the Kaiser ? People just moved on to TF3D devices.
Sad to say these are very expensive " disposable " devices, and people that own them have very short attention spans, The enthusiasm for porting Android to the Kasier will wane quickly. ......I'm just sayin.....

Thinking the same But kaiser was the best at 'his' time
But I think, if there is an easier workaround, less tweaking necessary (all-in-one package incl howto) and no bricking, perhaps some kaiser-user will permanently shift to android. Dunno, maybe me 2?!
hi guys, i am very much happy to see that there is so much of activity going on to strip down tattoo & install whatever ROM we want... but its also sad that its not successful....
to me, its very cluttered in this forum, there are so many threads about getting an entrance to tattoo from various sides so that we can cook its ROM.
just tell us how far you developers are from obtaining success for your hardwork ???? we all cant wait to install 2.1 on our cute little tatoo....
guys, give us the good news ASAP..... please....
getting the 2.1 on ur tattoo is no big deal, HTC most probably will release it sooner or later. the real challenge here is gaining root access to the tattoo in order to install some really useful applications. so far all paths that devs have tried have met roadblocks, hopefully some day an S-Off SPL will be made or acquired from somewhere which should help.
also i found this http://www.androlib.com/android.application.uk-co-neilandtheresa-instantroot2-qAmj.aspx i don't know how it works, nor do i know if it will work on the tattoo if some devs here could look into it and explain how it works and whether it will on the tattoo(considering that they haven't found a loophole in the current kernel yet) i guess it would be great.
is it so difficult to know how tattoo works & what all its loop holes are even after releasing source code ??? i must really appreciate the hard work of those guys who did bring out this tattoo... hats of to you guys... you have really made this little wizard a hard to crack one.... we all must appreciate...
does anyone here knows how to install 2.1 on my tattoo ??? i am more than happy if i know the steps to update to 2.1. i dont want to root this tattoo if it seems so difficult to do it... why crack our head for almost impossible thing ???
anyway, may be cyanogen has not developed any interest in developing custom ROMs for tatto... it looks strange to me either...
may be some high end hacker / tech freak who knows in & out of linux must lead us to the victory path. i dont know when that day comes.... waiting for that to happen ASAP with fingers crossed.....

Simply yes. Having the sourcecode doesn't automaticaly mean it is easier to crack a system (that would be bad for Linux as a server operating system since it is opensource...)

It actually looks like the tattoo has got a very clever security system that makes it impossible to flash roms on it that aren't officially signed by HTC. May be we will never be able to crack this wall. Beeing able to root the Tattoo might be the only option to flash custom roms on the tattoo in the future.

There is a big interest and I hope to see cyanogen on tattoo one day, but as you already read it looks like custom flashing depends on rooting. Might be that we will see 2.1 on tattoo in 2 weeks or never. An unsatisfying situation, I know!

Some of them are even here but the combination of much work to be done and less time means all of you have to wait. And Linux was never ment to be a crackable system... ;-)
But crossing fingers is always a good idea.

thanks for ur answers.... we are all in the same boat i guess....
but i got one question for you, how could the google nexus be rooted before its official launch ??? it is also android phone which means linux back bone suport it has got.... so we all know that tattoo got released much before the nexus. by rules, nexus should have tough security system & should have shown better resistance towards hacking, but its not the case anymore....
but why tattoo only is like that ... means so adamant to reverse engineering ??? i simply hate that... being free for all & open source, why in the hell you restrict the hardware/software options & make it difficult for all ?? anyway, we will pay for the applications which we like to use & moreover apss are not that expensive??? even then why do you do so ???
i am in the mood of selling my tattoo & getting either hero or nexus.... this is so rediculous.... definitely, may be because its cheap people are not putting enough hard work or not at all showing any interest in making this little nerd dance to our tunes.... this is so pathetic.... i hate this device..... i am selling it ASAP....
Heya.
The Nexus is open because Google decided so. It wasn't "hacked". All you have to do is use fastboot to unlock the device and then you can flash whatever you wish to it. The Tattoo doesn't have this option, like many devices before and after it, so we need to crack it, to root it and then we'll be able to flash whatever we wish to it. I'm 100% sure that the Tattoo will be rooted, maybe not today or tomorrow (and again, who knows) ?
I suggest you do what I did: enumerate why you need root or custom roms on this device. Is it really that important ? How long are you ready to wait for them ? If you need root and custom roms right now then my advice would be to sell your Tattoo and get a Nexus. If you can wait a little longer then let's see what's around the corner
Me, personally, I love the design of the Tattoo. Preety small and powerfull. My better half as a Hero but I still prefer the Tattoo. If I can get a custom rom on it, that would be interesting. If I can get root so I can mess with it, that would be very cool. If I can help other people to get root on it, that would make my day.
Regards,
mf3
I have only recently got my Tattoo and at the moment I am happy with it being debranded from Orange. I've not really played with it at all yet, so need to see what apps I need to put on it. Cooked roms would obviously be a bonus but happy so far.
People are working around the clock on rooting the HTC Tattoo. But, these hackers also have a real life too. Therefore, they can't spend 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year hacking full-time, they would need to eat, sleep, walk, run, swim and the like.
People need to understand this. No matter how hard it is, we'll succeed.
Personally, I love the HTC Tattoo. It's the best phone I ever had. Seeing a CyanogenMod port for the Tattoo once rooted would be epic. I'll be cooking ROMs when mine's rooted.
We need to be patient. Rome wasn't built in a day. Sit back from the computer. Read our hacking stories in other threads. Absorb the knowledge others are sharing. Test out our exploits. Give your two cents on the handset. Give feedback. Enjoy the community.
Without people like the ones that are now in the Tattoo scene, the Tattoo would be dead in the water. Unloved and unwanted. IMO, I brought this because I thought the Dream was bulky and the Magic was limited. I was thinking of getting a Hero, but now, Tattoo is where I'll stay.
I hope what I said will encourage others to wait before they ask "IS IT OVER?". It's not, unless we raise the white flag.
Yea, I quote everything. There are lot of people working for us... testing and testing spending time and money (some people bought the tattoo just to root it) just to give us the chance to see something new on our cute little but powerfull device.
They are diehard and they don't give up if they couldnt root the tattoo... they continue to work on it...
so.... I think the best way is to give em help and another important thing is to say....
...oh thank you guys.... your work is really appreciated...
I think its the best way to encourage them !
ok, i will wait.... sorry if i have hurted anyone here... i saw several threads with different loop holes getting discovered every other day... hence i asked so.
please dont mis-understand me... i am also here to help you guys..... let me know what help i can offer here to help this little bomb to root....
i would be more than happy the day when it gets rooted just like many others.... hail tattoo.... hail the people who are working on it.... keep up the good work bros.... good luck..
Howdy all,
I've ordered a Motorola Droid and it'll be curtains for my HTC Tattoo Android development.
What does this mean? I'll still be an AzusaROM developer. However, I won't be hovering around the Click Android Development much any more.
To the other developers: Don't give up. Your work is awesome, and really shows what the Tattoo can do. HTC should learn from our ROMs, we don't want all the Sense UI gloss and crappy unoptimized kernels!
To my AzusaROM users: You are more than welcome to use AzusaROM as a starting base for your Android ROMs. Just add my credit line like "Based on AzusaROM by Coburn64" in the credits.
To my friends and foes: A big thank you for all your help and support over the period of time I've been a Tattoo developer. Keep on churning out those ROMs, make the Tattoo shine and burn out that NAND chip!
For now, I bid you farewell. If you see me around, say Hi... Hit me up on Twitter (it's in my sig) and we'll chat.
Take care and see ya,
Coburn.
Sad to see another one move away from the tattoo, but I can understand it. So I will stay here, waving with my tattoo and remember the good old times with mainfram3, you and the others that were involved in kicking HTC's ass the first time by finding a way to root our phones
Have a lot of fun with your new motorola!
-bm-

I also find it sad that a very good ROM dev is leaving us - i also thought buying a Droid (in Germany it is named Milestone), but I moved away from these thoughts as I'll either buy a Samsung Galaxy S or wait until the Droid X will be coming to Europe hopefully
Anyway, thanks for your hard work and I hope that you will have anice time with your new toy
Regards
bye bye and good uck with your ner an-DROID!
Goodbye. This is sad I'm gonna have to buy another phone at some point...
Thanks for your work!
To Coburn64
Thank you, Coburn64 !!!!!
I would first like to say thank you to all the developers that are developing roms of the sensation xl. You guys are doing great and they are all great!
My question is why does the sensation xl lack in development and roms such as CM9, MIUI and other variations of custom roms compared to devices like sensation, one x etc. Anyway, not trying to hate here, just want to know if its a limitation of the phone or lack of developers.
Thanks and keep up the great effort :good:
It's down to a lack of developers. As far as i know, the developer vertigo from the three musketeers is working on CM9 for the SXL. But maybe i misunderstood someone.
Sent from my HTC Sensation XL with Beats Audio X315e using Tapatalk 2
I am sure he will pop along to confirm but, just so you know he is working on it. Just it's proving tireless - mainly because there really isn't much help coming from anyone but also because he, like the whole bunch of us is still learning. He will solider on though I know it. Once he's managed it, the doors will open for everything and we can really start to play with things. Like Paranoid Android, which would be brilliant on our screen size I think. And, for those of you who are asking elsewhere - it's because of this limitation that we won't have Jelly Bean, FOR NOW.
:cyclops:
Cheers for the responses guys and I seem to understand now. Its amazing what you guys are capable of which can be seen by your musketeer roms so really looking forward to Vertigo's CM9. It's unfortunate though that the sensation XL doesn't have more developers, its a great device and as you said a tablet like rom would suit the screen size. Anyway, i'll keep an eye out for new roms/updates so cheers for everything so far and good luck with the CM9 rom vertigo.
Just wondering, if I were to get started on rom development, where is a good place to start. Cheers
For me, I just smashed google search a lot. Main issues are with some things a with the tutorials you find are out of date. Depends what you want to do. Good place to start is to use things like dsixda's kitchen to get some ideas. Read up a lot. But if you are interested in building from source then you need to start reading about linux and setting an area for that. If you then start to hit some problems, PM some developers or TUT writers, they might be able to help.
Thanks mate, I've done a bit of messing around with dsixda's kitchen and will continue to try. I will move on to source compilation later after I get a grip on this stuff first. It's a nice starting place but as you said, a lot of the tutorials are out of date. If I do encounter any problems, I'll be sure to ask you or any other developer.
If anyone has any nice tutorials that really helped them, feel free to post
