Camera Quality and Volume issues - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I am about to send in my HTC One for a warranty claim, however I want to verify is someone experienced the same issues before.
First of all, taking pictures is a pain with my HTC One. The auto-focus works terribly and it barely makes the picture any more clear when I focus on something.
See the following image as an example:
http://oi42.tinypic.com/2199xs1.jpg
I do notice that when I record a video, it goes slightly better. It seems to have a much better focus, but still not the same as one of my friends who has the same phone. Which brings me to the following issue.
The volume of my friends phone (Black HTC ONE) is a LOT louder.
He has a stock phone, no custom rom, not even rooted. And his volume is just way louder.
I myself have only rooted my phone, and no custom rom, neither have I ever tried any volume tweaks.
Is anyone familier with any of these issues?
And am I recommended to send my phone back for warranty?
Thanks in advance,
Tobie

Same here man. I get the same camera problems so I'm sending my unit back. I don't know about the volume issues however. But images won't focus at ALL only when its stuff that's nearby even if I have macro on or off.

I heard that in the latest update HTC decreased the maximum loudness of the speakers to prevent damage to them. If you've taken the update and your friend hasn't that may be the difference.

I hope they did. My phone is stupid loud (Verizon version) to the point where I almost have to turn alarm volume almost all the way down so it doesn't scare me awake in the morning hahaha.

I'm on 4.3 maximus and selected the option to have increased loudness like in the old versions. Alarms can be stupid lol. I just turn the volume down.

Vibration intensity

Hi.. I'm coming from s3 and would like to know if I can adjust the vibration intensity on the one?

Thanks but that really sucks.. Such a basic feature not available as standard...!
Is the kernel suggested based on stock as I wanted to stay as close to stock as possible?

Guys.. Unfortunately I can't find the link to this kernel and without this variable vibrate intensity I'm afraid I'll be forced back to Samsung plastics!

Go back to Samsung if your main concern in HTC1 is the vibration intensity.

Thanks for a really positive reply... Yes it does bother me... A lot as it's stupidly loud/strong and it's a basic feature that should be included in the stock rom! I like a discrete vibration for my notifications... What's wrong with that?
Plus it's a software feature that could be easily implemented... I'm not asking for any hardware miracles... I'm glad to move away from Samsung (and I am a big Samsung fan) because of their cheap looking plastic construction... I also want htc to do well as its good for competition... They've won me with the hardware but there are certain things that bug me which i miss and want a work workaround

Nothing at all. I noticed this too. Its with all htc phones. IMO, the vibration is too loud. Yeah a custom kernel fixes it

Lol who would ever touch a plastic device again. And if you don't know where the kernel is then my guess is your just an average user. Faux123's kernels are not for average users and are more focused to power android users.

What really annoys is that it's a software feature that wouldn't cost htc anything other than a little development time to implement... Being stubborn doesn't get a company anywhere... Look at Nokia for example!

That's what I don't like when companies try to impose rather than giving customer the choice...that's why I don't have an iPhone because Apple are very stubborn and impose their stupid ways onto their customers! Android is meant to be different as it's open source and customisable...
I also miss the shortcut toggles in the notification bar but I've read somewhere that mods are available...

Quieter Audio with Android Revolution.

Why is the sound volume so much lower compared to stock? Is it the X-Audio tweak? I don't want to have to reinstall the rom all over again just to turn that tweak off. Can you turn off the tweak somewhere? Is your audio a lot quieter? Please help! Thanks. I'm running the latest version of the rom, 9.3 and it is not the kernels fault as it was quite before installing Elemental X.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
I just removed Pure X-Audio and it is still really quiet even at max volume. Please help.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
It's because HTC lowered the volume on the phone in the latest update to protect the speakers. ARHD is based on the latest version.
Why does everyone need the volume up so high?
Sent from my HTC One
They made it quieter than it was it the 1.27 builds but there are ROMs that have supposedly brought the loud audio back.
Maybe they made it quiter because people were complaining it was too loud when at minimum volume in the original firmwares?

I like to listen to music out loud and watch movies. Is there anyway to change it back?

Use a ROM that is based on 1.27 or one that explicitly states that it has brought back loud audio.

Temporary? How do you know this?
This would imply they admitted to doing this on purpose and committing to a fix (hopefully soon).

Those were my initial thoughts as well, but I think it depends on firmware. Some early models had really loud volumes that were lowered in subsequent updates. There are mods on this forum if your device is rooted to bring it back to those really high volume levels, but if you don't have root you're stuck waiting for htc to roll out an update that may never come...

Hmm. Check out the viper one, insertcoin and a few others have links to such mods in the first post of their respective threads. Can't remember any specifics, but most sense based roms have such mods linked in the description.

Alright I compared my device with two other ones in two different shoo and confirmed mine volume was lower playing same track on youtube, even staff member agreed. I called HTC, explained and was told I must send my device for repair. It took them about one week and I got my One back. There was no description included explaining what was done so I contacted HTC again and was explained that apparently speakers have been replaced due to being faulty. I didn't have chance to compare my phone with any other one after this repair but I will definitely do. In my opinion completely nothing was done as I can't see how speaker can be faulty playing sounds less loud - it works or not, that is how I see it. Also I cannot find any signs of disassembling device, which is good but can also mean that it was never opened.

this is the hong kong and taiwanese flagship we will get it
Definitely Taiwan will get it first! Look at One X+, Taiwanese version got 4.2 before all the others.
I really hope they fix the audio crackling at high volumes, perhaps my unit has a defective headphone amplifier, but another user, tsokh, also noticed the same thing =/ Galaxy S4 with Snapdragon 600 had a similar problem, but I contacted HTC the rep told me that nobody else has complained to them about this issue (but then again I contacted HTC North America not Taiwan, a bit of a language barrier and they give you similar replies everytime there).
Also Beats Audio is kinda buggy if you listen to speakers with Beats on, and plug in your headphones the volume increasing effect of Beats is actually reversed and it actually decreases your volume, then turning Beats off actually increases the volume (leading to the audio crackling too). Even worse, after I do this, I start getting an occasional audio ZAP like not crackling but a loud squeak at the same location of a song.

It's noticeable only on some type of music and only with high level of volume - you can't hear anything with moderate volume level.

It's only occurs with songs that have a slow deep bass, example would be the slow part of Touch by Daft Punk, some R. Kelly songs. With most songs audio quality is great but I notice a little bit of high-pitched EMI on the left channel at the beginning of each track.
The audio crackling is very apparent with in-ear headphones and earbuds, if you have the volume above 11/15. I find 12/15 to be the ideal listening volume so I do notice it a little bit, but using PowerAMP it SOMETIMES doesn't happen. (but with PowerAMP I get occasional audio popping as opposed to the crackling distortion)
With higher impedance on-ear headphones you only get it at the maximum volume setting (Beats off).
The HTC rep advised me to have it checked with RMA (I might just go to a service center in Taiwan to ask about it the next time I go, it takes about 2 weeks for a factory repair though)
Does anybody use Bluetooth for listening to music? If it doesn't happen on Bluetooth it might be the headphone amplifier.

are you getting the same problem? I thought it made sense because the Butterfly s uses the same chipset as the i9505 GS4 which also had its own share of audio problems. It might only affect a few units as daorderdillon says he doesn't have the same problem with the song in question. It may also be that only 901e are affected as he has 901s.
Strangely I never got this problem on my One X+ but I did get constant skipping which bothered me but mostly only happens if the screen is on and I'm doing something with the phone. Original HOX had a bad DAC and a lot of users disliked the audio quality (never tried myself), HOX+ much cleaner but kinda lacking in bass and treble.
The new update does seem to make the touch screen more responsive. I was having problems with the shift key and the back button, also playing Lep's World 2 where the jump button didn't always respond (perhaps it's because they updated it recently). Finally, there used to be a continuous hiss in the background even after you stop music playback. With IEMs the hiss is still quite noticeable at the beginning and end of songs (including a high-pitched EMI on my left speaker), but it stops soon after you pause the music.

There isn't much difference actually the camera seems the same. Keyboard and buttons seem to be more responsive as I had some problems before under the screen protector.
Also, charging animation means your screen will always be on, I only realized this yesterday and I really hate it - what if your screen burns in? (good thing it's not AMOLED, but still there might be some retention as I get that on my iPad 2) Right now the only solution is to charge under standby mode.

The purple camera thing is due to the phone being hot.. the Older HTC one's had improper heat shielding that wasn't sufficient enough to cool the camera. Send your device to HTC they'll fix it for free. atleast they did for me
