64gb microSDXC class 10 intermittent unmounting - Galaxy S 4 Active Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This just started happening on my rooted stock gs4a, anyone have any ideas besides sticking a piece of business card under the microSDXC card?
If I reboot it resolves it temporarily...

It has nothing to do with it not being seated properly. Something about the 64g card that the phone doesn't like. Has to do with the software. Try and 32gb card and you'll probably never have that problem again.

External memory card issue?

Have a 32 gig sd for about 2 weeks now and had no problems until yesterday. Now media scanner says it is a blank memory card and won't read it. I tried formatting but no luck. Anyone else have this issue before? Is there a fix? Thanks ahead of time for any info!
Where did you get the card? brand? I've read a lot about people getting fake cards from China that are awful quality. Not sure if you can do much but re format it with the computer

which sandisk breaks in note 2?

I bought a 64gig sandisk ultra uhs speed class 1 xc i or whatever.. i heard of some of these being corrupted by the note 2? is it this specific one?
So far it looks like only the 32gb Sandisk ultra u1 are affected.
I would skip SanDisk and get a Samsung as no one has posted any issues about them.

I thought SanDisk 64gb are the ones giving more trouble?

64gb seem to be the most popular, thus making it look like more complaints are being given. I just formatted my 64gb card to fat32 as the exfat file system seems to be problematic on our devices.

There was a problem with the chipset used, it has been rectified now.
So what is the real problem exactly? If it is the chip set problem, wouldn't those cards affected still be in circulation?
I'm contemplating getting one myself but I'm leaning towards Samsung ones as well just to be on the safe side.

Can you elaborate? Chips on the card or the phone? Was this fixed/will it be fixed? I'm having issues now and have just formatted my card to fat32 to see if that corrects the problem with random dismounting and denied access to the sd card.

you can't tell, if your card has something wrong just use the warranty.
source is from a local sandisk authorised dealer that I know.

If the card is manufactured on or after December 2012, then it will work perfectly fine. Check on the pack for that. Cheers!!
My Samsung 32GB has been rock solid. But I want to get 64GB and the Sammy card is 100-250 depending on where you go!
I think I'll let the stock run through a bit before picking up a SanDisk 64GB
Been usng a 64gb sandisk for the past two weeks..so far no dismounting or whatever problem..my only problem is that i havent got the thing to fill it up with...LOL..

I never had any issues with any sandisk products.

it's because it was formatted on a non sdxc reader, if you goto the sd association site, it will state it.

SD Card unmounting unexpectedly

Hey guys,
As of Sunday evening I'm having a recurrent problem where my phone is nearly constantly unmounting and remounting the SD Card, or not recognizing it at all, or saying that its corrupt, this seems to be causing the top of the phone around the sim / sd card cover to get warmer than normal and a significant hit on the battery life, for example today it's been off of charge for about 4 hours and now i have less than 30% battery left.
Obviously this is not normal and there is a fault somewhere so i figured I'd ask here to see if anyone had came across similar issues and see if there was any obvious fixes before doing anything drastic.
The phone is running TiMiN8R's rooted and deodexed JB rom. Locked bootloader, extended standby time is disabled. the SD card is a sandisk 32gb class 4 card.
not sure if that info helps but i figured i better specify it in case anyone asks.
Try to reformat or -partition your card. I think I have seen more problems with Sandisk cards, sometimes only solved by buying an other card. I have no problems with my own Sandisk 32GB though.

I'm about 90% positive that it was a fake card now, i put an old 8gb card i had in it and its been running fine since, I put the other card into my computer to check it and it's now claiming it's a 32mb not a 32gb card.
Was having this problem with my old san disk 32gb class 4 card. Now im on a new san disk class 10 32gb card and have not had this problem for almost 1 month

I think you may have a faulty card. I had a SanDisk Ultra C10 32GB and suddenly it behaved the same way. Even worse, I can't get the card to recognize even if I took it to a PC. If I used a 16GB C4 card, then everything was okay.
I sent in my 32GB card for RMA.

I'd also bet you've got a faulty card. I bought one of the Maplins 32GB cards and had a similar problem with overheating and unmounting. Replaced it and not had any trouble since.
Sent from my LT30p using xda app-developers app
Oh crap, think I have the same problem as it had stated happening to me out of the blue sandisk 32g card bought from a reputable seller on thief-bay. I'll reformat first and see if it persists.

Constant Sd card unexpectedly removed issues

Note 4 unrooted 5.1.1/ 64gb Samsung class10 sdhc this is chronic and happening multiple times daily. It seems to have started to occur when moving files from internal memory to card which shouldn't be a problem. I wonder if there is a way to have all downloads go directly to sd rather then moving them with a file manager which seems to have borked the file structure causing these errors. Just my guess. Anyway I haven't found any definate fix so would appreciate any input. I have most of my apps on the card so it is really inconvenient.

If it's new, the problem is almost definitely the card; unexpected from a Samsung card but it's definitely possible for any manufacturer to sell a dud. Hopefully an exchange/return is possible? If I were in your spot, I would stick with Samsung and just chalk this one up to "luck of the draw".
I've got quite a collection of cards and most have been problem free (the only brand I've sworn off is SanDisk because almost every one of their cards that I've had has worked fine for a while, then suddenly it's still readable in a phone or PC, but impossible to write to) but the only time that I've had the unmounting problem that you describe was with a brand new card that was clearly no bueno. Good luck!
Im going to try to format the card, fat32 save all the data, and replace it. It just started occuring after moving files like downloaded images and music, so I think the file structure is causing the dismounts. Also the apps that are loaded on the card have the icons disappearing sporadically.

Ok not rooted, and the card was
purchased from Samsung with my Note 4 discount. So I have a possible fix for any with this issue. I thought it might be related to wireless charging bc it coincided with this, but it may be because I transferred wallpapers and lockscreen images to external sd. I moved them back to internal storage and havent had a dismount. If it occurs again, Ill format the card. May do a factory reset as well just to kill anu bugs. Can you recommend a good backup method for non root? Ive rooted so long and used Titanium, but obviously cant on a stock device.

It is a bad sd card. Yes, it is new, but it is memory. It fails. I have had issues like this across all cards. Sandisk, Kingston, & Samsung too. It happens.

Ok Im surprised because it worked for about a year with zero issues. Now my macbook pro wont recognize the phone as drive at all. AFT says "no device" uninstalled kies, not sure if I had it but ran uninstaller, nada. Just charges, not recognized as usb device. Im at a loss. Formatted card, about to do a factory reset. Alot of apps on that card so I'm missing those apps. Odd because with the adaptor I was able to move files on my mac from the card but not to it so its not writable.

I see the same problem. Does it a few times a week. Haven't tried replacing the card though.
Well reset did not help. The card is bad,but the phone won't be recognized as a USB device at all and it's out of warranty. I lost contacts which I thought were automatically backed up to google. Maybe they're stored on the sd. Used to store on the sim or at least was an option. Now endless headaches due to reset. I didn't root just to avoid this kind of stuff.

I had this happen a ton when I had an S4 with multiple cards. It just couldn't handle 64gb, but my wifes identical phone could. Maybe your note just has a glitch. First thing is to return for another card though.
The media scanner and it will suck the life out of your battery as it scans every time the card is 'inserted'. This can be disabled though.
I have a 7 year old or older 1gig sandisk class 6 in it now and it hasn't dismounted it yet, though I dont have any apps on it yet.
