[Q] Normal, Vibration and Silent - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello
i am sorry if this is wrong place or if this was asked already
i would like to know if there is a way to set the sound mode to Vibrate and still able to set a ringtone?
as when you pick Vibrate, other fields got disabled, and i would like to simple have:
1- Normal Mode: ringtone + no vibration [doable as normal mode have a checkbox to enable/disable vibrate]
2- Vibration: to have a ringtone + vibration
why i am asking?
because i've got some NFC tags, and i would like to be able to set sound mode using tag.
currently if i set tag action to set vibration it does not enable vibration (check box) inside Normal mode
it swithces to Vibrate mode which have no ringtone.
so if any one have any idea how to solve this either by a workaround or anything else.
would be really appreciated
many thanks.
Yazan.

How do I set profiles?

Hi, i'm new to Qtek 2020i (XDA IIi) and i'm wondering how do i set profiles like what it used to be in Nokia, where we have silent mode, and so on.
How can i do that?
Also, how can i switch to vibrate mode or silent mode and i still have my alarm ringing loud?
Is there any ways i can do that or any software that can do that?
If you tap the speaker icon on the top bar, the popup volume slider has three preset settings.
1) On , just returns to the last volume setting
2) Silent, deactivates the volume but enables the vibration.
3) Off , as you would expect, no vibration or audio
There is a better profile tool but it was a part of the o2 customised GUI. However i find the three default settings do me fine
Thank you. Wat about having it on vibrate or off and the alarm still able to ring on full volume?
I think you cant do that, but as a kinda work arround you would need to put the phone in flight mode (turn off the phone function) but leave the sound on.
Just means you wont recieve any sms or calls untill you enble the phone again.
Try looking at Pocket Zen Phone, search the forums
I bought Pocket Zen Phone, it's a brilliant little app, and very cheap, so no excuse for not buying when it's so fairly priced.
so besides spb pocket plus and diary, what other apps is the best to use? I mean most popular and definitely a need by most of ppc users?
Mate that has to be the most commonly asked and most difficult question to answer - what you want/need to do with your device defines that.
As for a list, here is mine.

Vibrate Only on FroYo

Ever since I updated to FroYo, I lost the feature of having vibrate only for phone calls and text messages. Usually using the volume rocker (up and down) it would go from silent > vibrate > ring.. On FroYo it goes from silent > ring..
Any idea how to fix it?
I know I can do it manually by making the option be vibrate on silent in phone settings.. But sometimes I do not want my phone to vibrate on silent.. Just a hassle of going into settings and turning it off each time when i do not want it
It sounds like your problem is two fold.
First, mine goes from sound bar down to vibrate. (I don't know if ADW launcher has an affect on this or not).
Secondly, you might want to look in to the settings applications on the market and see if you can set and restore settings for those times you want just silent and vibrate for some parts.
Are you using modaco's rom?
I use a widget called extended controls which is like an enhanced version of the stock power control widget. It has options for vibrate only or complete mute.
sliding the speaker on the lock screen should put it on vibrate only on froyo
Nope the Lock screen slide makes it completely silent. Is it only Modaco's rom ?
Did you check settings> sounds > vibrate and ensure it is not never or only when not silent?
Well neither of those options help because its either one or the other. I do not want it to always vibrate or just vibrate when on silent.. I dont know why it disappeared :S
Did you try "vibrate only on silent mode" and see if you get the option? I'm tuning kang-of-rama froyo and it works and that is what mine is set to. Otherwise maybe reflash your rom?

Vibrate only in silent mode defeats the purpose of silent mode
Stupid google, wth were they thinking with this change. I don't understand why they had to fix something that wasn't broken.
you can do it from individual app setting for sound, and in the home screen setting. that way you can tailor each app's vibrate, or silence the way you prefer.
Everyone is missing the point here. I have a Droid running Froyo and am experiencing the same problem. It is really not that hard to understand, but so many forums about this issue are full of replies that misunderstand the issue:
Prior to Froyo, Silent and Vibrate were 2 distinct functions:
Silent: ringer volume at zero and vibrate was disabled. Perfect for a theatre or a quiet meeting where even a vibrate would be annoying and disrespectful.
Vibrate: ringer volume at zero and vibrate enabled. Perfect for keeping the phone in your pocket, being aware of notifications, but not having your phone beeping and ringing all day.
This all makes sense, yes? By using the volume rocker, it was possible to adjust from full ringer volume down to low ringer volume. If you continued down after the volume was at it quietest, you activated vibrate mode. Then, if you clicked down once more, you would enable silent mode. Also all makes sense. And is extremely useful and intuitive.
In Froyo, Google has changed the way the OS handles volume control when it comes to silent mode and vibrate mode. And quite frankly, they have screwed it all up. Now, in Settings, you can specify whether the phone should vibrate "Always", "Never", "Only in Silent Mode", "Only when not in Silent Mode".
Ugh. So what that means is they have essentially done away with a distinction between silent and vibrate and now instead of having quick access to both options, you have to pick whether silent means truly silent like before or whether it really means vibrate. So frustrating.
So far, the only solutions I have seen out there are to download one of the many widgets that allows you to toggle between vibrate, silent, and ringing via a home screen icon. But this is not good enough. I want Volume Rocker control back of true Silent and true Vibrate modes.
Someone here on XDA must know how to fix this. Can't someone come up with an app that overrides the volume rocker? Or even an update.zip that restores the 2.1 functionality here?
Here's to hoping!
EDIT: here is the official google help thread on this topic: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/android/thread?tid=3f836bd37ec0dc88&hl=en
Hmm it seems i'm not the only one who misses that option on Froyo!
I used it quite a lot...going from sound to vibrate (when going out) then going into a meeting just one more click and the phone was on silent.
There must be someone who knows how to fix this?
Any news on this ?
Tbh I like the new way much better

for a second i thought i was going crazy but it seems like everyone has the same problem
oh well, here's hoping google fixes this soon. i want the old "silent [no vibrate] -> vibrate only -> ringer+vibrate" setup back.
Agreed I prefer 2.1's behaviour.
I'm using Curvefish's "Beautiful Vibrate" widget as a workaround for now.
i just upgraded to froyo and this missing feature also really annoys me..
it's been some time since the last post in this thread. are there any proper solutions/workarounds yet?
Settings -> sound -> check silent state

sorry, there's nothing to check there this post within this thread describes the problem very well: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6975085&postcount=12
i can't find the "beautiful vibrate" widget within the market, guess it doesn't exist anymore?
[edit]
i'm using "silent toggle widget" now, seems to be working as expected, but of course doesn't replace the volume rocker feature/settings from 2.1

[Q] [Cyanogen 7.1.0] Vibration settings/problem

Hy everybody, I've installed the cyanogen 7.1.0 version on my samsung Galaxy S, and everything is working fine
I got just one little problem, i can't get sms vibration working, even in "Vibration" mode.
If I select the "Vibration" mode (no sound, the one with the little notification area icon showing a phone with vibration coming out of it) and check in "Audio" settings that vibration is ON I can't get vibration when receiving messages.
I found a workaround by selecting, in Message settings, vibration to "Always", BUT, if I want to use 4 "profiles", that are:
-no sound
-vibration
-sound
-sound+vibration
i get vibration in ALL of them, whereas my idea is to get vibration in "vibration" and "sound+vibration" mode, and no vibration in "sound" and "no-sound".
Anyone can help my posting his audio setting to get this working?
Thank you very much
anyone? This is driving me crazy!

vibration not working for notifications

I usually keep my phone on vibrate I work pt and school ft so I have no need for sound. I recently noticed that my messages notifications weren't vibrating and neither was my snap. I read a few forums and they say to check my PSM or UPSM neither are activated. my vibration is still working for incoming calls and when I change the toggle between sound and vibrate I can feel the intensity.
Also, I did check that the intensity on the phone was turned up.
I tried going to the setting to adjust it but for some reason the vibrations toggle is greyed out.
settings- sounds and vibrations - notifications sounds-messages notifications- vibratations(this is were its greyed out).
I don't want to reset my phone because I cant remember everything I have changed but if that is the only option I will.

Vibration & Haptics

I currently have the Vibration & Haptics setting "Never Vibrate for Phone Calls" set. The phone does not vibrate when I have regular sound mode on. This is great. When I turn the phone onto Vibrate Mode I still do not get vibration for phone calls. I assume this is because I have "never" vibrate set, but I also would think the Vibrate Mode being set on the volume menu would override any vibration settings set normally. Am I wrong in this through process? Thank you!
