[Q] Do disabled apps interfere with the OTA? - Moto X Q&A

Hello Moto X owners. Droid Maxx owner here. I have a question about the OTA since you guys have already been through the process, and the OTA is now imminent for the Droid line. Since our phones are so similar I'm thinking you can help answer this question.
I'm not rooted but I do have 30+ bloatware apps disabled via the app menu (can provide a list if needed). My question is, will I need to re-enable all the bloat prior to taking the OTA? I ask because this was an issue on the Bionic, where the OTA would fail if all the bloat was not present. Tried searching around but I haven't been able to find any info about disabled apps and the Moto X OTA.
I would love to hear some of your experiences with the OTA and disabled bloat. Did only certain apps need to be re-enabled, or all of them? Or did you take the OTA just fine with tons of apps disabled?
Thanks for your time!

[Q] App backup/restore without root on Verizon? Unlockable BL phone for Verizon?

I am a long time Verizon Samsung/HTC user considering taking the plunge. Read through these posts it looks like root is not an option for the Moto x 2014 with the Verizon locked bootloader. So...
I use root mostly to uninstall bloatware and backup/restore apps. I could go without removing the bloat but but I really want to transfer my app data. Helium does not support Motorola and Titanium requires root.
1) Is there a way I can preserve my app settings and in-app purchase from my old phone?
2) Is there a method of removing bloatware?
3) If I splurge for an unlocked "pure" phone will it work on the Verizon network?

Click to collapse
1) Not that I'm aware of.
2) Yes, you can disable most of it in settings/apps.
3) No. Verizon will not activate it.

[Q] I don't need an unlocked bootloader...I just don't want bloat!

I'm looking to buy a Moto X 2nd Generation (from Verizon) and I want to be able to get rid of all of Verizon's crap (and a lot of Motorola's probably too). Is that something I'll be able to do?
I've been able to root phones before, but it looks like the Moto X only allows that if you have an unlocked bootloader and the Verizon Moto X obviously doesn't have that.
Does that mean I'm @ the mercy of stock?
Disable em
You could always disable the apps you don't use, by going to Settings -> Apps -> (Select the bloatware app) -> Disable..
This ensures that the app doesn't execute anymore, and thereby doesn't consume any resources. Be careful though, some apps have dependencies on other apps. Don't go about disabling everything at your whim.
I have a pure edition, so I'm not 100% on this, but I swear that I read lollipop gives the ability to uninstall carrier installed apps. You might want to look into that more.

[Q] Disable/remove specific system apps: What's New/Google Settings (No root)

Hey everyone. Just signed up so hopefully this is the right sub-forum for this question.
Amazing forum by the way. I've been visiting here frequently since getting my Z3 Compact and you guys have been a massive help so far. You've really helped to improve the functionality of my device and streamline the software so thank you. Now on to the question I want to ask. I recently installed Wondershare Mobile Go. The application was a huge help in removing certain apps (basically all the bloatware that Sony's stock Android firmware comes with). In addition to that I used the disable trick to disable most of the apps thus hiding them from the app drawer. As a result my phone is almost complete in terms of getting it to the point where I want it (only the apps I want to use; everything else rendered either disabled, hidden or uninstalled).
I recently however hit a roadblock. The apps I'm having trouble with are predominantly What's New, Google Settings and also an app called Downloads. I can't seem to uninstall or disable those apps. They're the only three remaining that I want removed or hidden from the app drawer. Now I've already researched this on the XDA forums and have already tried the ADB trick. I tried that last night and it made no difference. I used the Hide command (as I'm running Android 5.0.2) and it had no effect. I must have rebooted my phone four or five times running the commands each time and What's New just would not shift. I know the fastest and easiest way around this is to just root my phone and manually uninstall the software but I only just got my Z3 Compact and I really don't want to void the warranty.
Is there an easy mechanism in which to hide, disable or uninstall the three aforementioned apps? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Which process to install play store

Guys, I am getting my $50 Fire Tablet tomorrow and plan on using it for many secondary tasks, not my main tablet or device. I am trying to figure out which process to go with to add the Play Store and perhaps remove the Ads. I would prefer, I guess, to not block OTA updates or root. I saw the One Click option, but it says that it will disable updates. Which process should I go with to just install the Play Store and perhaps remove ads? My preference would be not to block OTAs. Much Appreciated!!
If you're getting it tomorrow, then it's a $40 tablet Go ahead and download/run the one click tool on your computer. You'll see there is an OPTION for disabling OTA updates. Be aware that an OTA update from 5.0.1 to 5.1.1 makes installing custom ROMs more difficult. You really might want to reconsider blocking them in case Amazon decides to make life harder still, but the choice is yours.
Percussionking, I assume you are referring to the one click utility at the link below?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/amazon-fire/general/root-playstore-busybox-optimize-flash-t3281804
Also, just to confirm there is an option to not block OTAs?
Is there also a choice to not root?
I'm using http://www.rootjunky.com/amazon-fire-5th-gen-supertool/
Looking at the batch file, installing Play Store and removing ads do not require root.
Thank you! Just to confirm this works with 5.1.1 on the $50 tablet?
Also, is there a way to unblock OTAs after they are initially blocked?

Does the Moto G5S Plus support instant apps at all?

I searched in the Google settings, but couldn't find them. This is weird, I thought instant apps were rolled out already, and available to everyone on android 5+.
Let me know if you find anything, thanks in advance.
Note: Android Instant Apps is currently only available on some devices.
