Hi all,
So last night I decided to check out the PC Companion program on my laptop. I opened File Explorer and noticed that the phone created a folder called "Storage/legacy" and "Storage/0" on my internal sd. Inside, only 3 songs I transferred to my external sd thru settings\storage\transfer files to SD.
As I am familiar with how Android mounts storages it seemed a bit odd. As my previous action was the transfer to sd, I assumed my Xperia made a mistake by copying the songs and creating a new folder tree, on my internal storage. So I deleted these folders, because I don't need triple copies.
Selected folder, hit delete, PC Companion crashes... Turns out after deleting, BOTH INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL SD EMPTY!! Luckily I managed to restore 95% of my micro sdcard (12 hours later).
Questions: Can someone point out what I might have done wrong here? Or, explain me why the phone mirrors the internal and external storages, but showing only the 3 copied files on the internal storage? Is this a bug?

Are you having a problem with your internal storage folder?

Jreach, I'm having the same problem as you. I had access to my internal storage and lost it within 20 minutes of receiving the device. I can't reformat using Clean Storage (mass storage cannot be accessed) nor can I see the internal storage using memory, storage card (no card installed message). All of this happened PRIOR to connecting my phone to the pc.
When I use active sync (and Windows Media Player to sync music), I cannot see the internal storage. Windows Media Player doesn't see it either. When I use file explorer or whatever the other option is, I see a removeable drive on my PC. I cannot reformat it. If I double click on it on my xp machine I get an error message saying the "F:\ is not accessible, the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."
Given that, I suspect we will not be able to fix this and must return our Diamonds to Sprint. Please let me know if you find a solution. Thanks.
I searched the forums but could'nt find a similar problem. My SD card is read by my phone. But when i connect it to the computer through USB storage, only a few folders are seen(lost.dir, buildprop.tmp, .profig.os) along with any new folders that i create. But while browsing the card through a file explorer on my phone i can see all the files and folders. Anyone know what's wrong??
Try to put it in a card reader and see what happends.
Hey
I bought a sd card from eBay and had countless errors and trouble with it, I bought a new sd and had no issue what so ever. So try a new sd card or even formatt the memory card

See if you can back the contents up to the pc then run disk check or format.
Formatting at the moment is not an option. I have a lot of data on it that needs to be backed up like photos, videos, music etc. Unfortunately i cant backup the contents onto the PC since they cant be seen! Guess i have to upload everything onto dropbox and then format it. And with my current upload speed its going to take days . Unless there's someother way of doing it
Try doing a backup using a card reader for your pc.
Even with a card Reader only the "New" folders that i create can be seen. But on the phone All the folders can be seen.
Have you tried to connect it with Linux based OS or only with Windows?
Try this also. Currently there's a troyan round the globe. When it activates it hides all the folders on external media devices connected to PC, and creates .exe files with names of hidden folders. When you connect your storage to a PC with good antivirus it deletes .exe files but leaves folders on storage in hidden state. Try to configure your Windows Explorer or Total Commander to show hidden files and folders and maybe you'll be lucky.
Only with Windows XP and 7 based systems as im at a cousin's place. Found this problem when he wanted some songs from my card. I did scan the SD card using AVG. During the scan i noticed that the current files being scanned included those that i couldn't see using windows/commander file explorer. Hope that helps
Edit: A little messing around and i got it!! Folder Options > Hidden Files and Folders > Unchecked "Hide Protected Operating System Files"
Thank you for all your help
Hey all. I want to make a backup of my internal SD before doing a full wipe.
However, files don't copy properly, or at all. When I try to copy all of my Internal SD card, it freezes on "Calculating time for transferring files" for a while. Even when it starts transferring files, it just stops after a short while, no error messages, nothing - Just barely any files transferred at all and that's it.
I tried copying folder by folder, maybe there's a problem with a specific file, but it occurs just the same most of the time. I tried to copy a folder that's just 57MB, it only created the folder on the HDD and one subfolder, and that's it.
I'm running ROMAUR V7.0. USB transfer mode is MTP (Internal SD is not recognized when it's MSC).

Nope, that's not the issue. My External SD card is just fine, the problem is with the internal SD, which is to say the internal storage. It's not corrupted or anything, otherwise the phone wouldn't work properly.

well pc companion/ flashtool see if it fix the problem make sure you backup
which folder is it failing on?
No specific pattern, I can't tell...
I tried reflashing 4.2.2 Kernel, I'll test it now if it might have fixed the issue.
EDIT: Nope, problem persists. No idea what's going on. I'll see if I can bypass it by clearing some space on the external SD and use Root Explorer to copy all the contents to it. Maybe from the External SD there won't be any problem.
Hi. A friend of mine was moving pictures from the internal sd of her phone to a external sd using Samsung's My Files app. But now they've seem to be gone, all that's left on the internal sd is some files she didn't move. However, on the external SD the folders (DCIM, Pictures, etc) are present but empty.
I can't seem to find the reason for those files to disappear. I saw in a post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help/tried-to-photo..) that they could be in lost.dir folder. I have to check that out since I don't have the phone nearby, but I would like to get some suggestions for my problem.
I don't know if the files could be in the internal SD but hidden. The same way in the external SD. Or the worst case scenario, lost at all.

1. use a root file explorer like ES File Manager (free) and show all hidden files/folders
2. i think your friend didn´t copy the pictures, but delete them (worst case), so they aren´t there anymore.
Good luck

Hi There,
I updated yesterday to KitKat (Commercial And Journalists version).
Since then I noticed that on the external storage Android creates folders such as Android/data, Android/obb and fills them up with several root folders for apps though they are not used. Within those root folders KitKat creates then a files, cache or files/cache folder which remains empty. In the obb section the root folder remains empty. Same is with DCIM which I don't need as I use internal storage for my photos.
Our XZ has enough internal storage which I use for all such things and I don't need to fill up my sd cards, which usually have media on it. If I use that card later in another device such as in my car I have that silly folders appearing...
Is there any chance to get rid of those empty directories and prevent Android doing so as it was no issue up to 4.3?
Thx for help!
Best Regards,
Andreas

App FC means the obb not found(sometimes the app say need to download bla bla...) So you should put them is internal memory.
If you installed any apps or games so Try delete all files and folders in android/data in your external card. After that if you see any of your apps is back as you installed them first time (means data wiped) so the apps data path is now in your external card
If you tried to put the OBB in the both external and internal and the app didnt worked so that means there is something wrong in your rom...

oh, it works if the obb is in internal memory... but not external. This was in reply to your idea.
If I delete all folders (and there are only folders but no files in it) the system recreates them by time...

Thats really strange problem but flash your rom or try another ftf that all what i can say now:cyclops:
Any chance that you may have found a fix for this in the past year? My i9100 does the exact same thing and I've scoured the web to try and fix it. Cyanogenmod 12 / 5.1.1 and I have completely the same problem, every app creates an empty folder under Android/data or Android/obb on my external sd. For no discernible reason I can see.
