Play Store buyers, Please post your first Impressions (This isn't a shipping thread!)

Most of us who pre-ordered are a little peeved to say the least with how pre-orders were handled. After reading threads about quality issues, etc., with those able to buy from B&M last week, I'd like to know what people's impressions are of the device who ordered from the Play Store.

Did Google hold back to fix last minute issues? Were these a different batch than the retailer-reserved units? We can only speculate.
Most of us will receive the device tomorrow it seems. I personally will not be able to open mine until I return home from business on Friday, but there will be thousands waiting for that UPS guy to show up!
The purpose of this thread, fellow Play Store buyers, is to post your impressions, especially on issues like the left side screen clip, ghosting, flickering, yellow spots, battery life, etc. I'll be adding mine on Friday. Hopefully the vast majority of us have defect free devices. If yours is perfect, post that as well.

What happened? I ordered mine on the 13th, which I guess wouldn't be preorder since it came out that day. lol

I haven't even received a shipping notification yet... No way anything is happening anytime soon, it seems.
Really ticks me off, I have to admit!
Why would I ever want to buy from Google Play again, if other (brick & mortar) stores have already sold out a few days ago?
Besides, it makes me realize how much more professional Apple handles these roll-outs. And I thought only Verizon stinks (see Galaxy Nexus roll-out).

Well, I can honestly say I'm happy with my device. It seems perfect to me, no defects as far as I can see. It may have taken some time to get here, but I'm very happy with the quality.

Did you order yours from the Play store? If so, please post a little more about it

Most defective units appear to be from GameStop. Mime from ebuyer and others from ebuyer appear to be fine.

Ya, but from your post, you DON'T HAVE the device.
Be more specific next time. Seems your whining about how your order was processed and being pessimistic about the condition you'll get the device in. Even you say you won't be able to open it for a week.

Got a C6 from Gamestop this Saturday with no issues at all. More happy with the quality of the N7 out of the box than my previous Asus 201 tab

Way to go on reading skills there. Simply read the post and it is clear. My device will be at my house tomorrow, as it will be for thousands of others that ordered from the play store. Whether I'm there or not I open it until 3 days later is irrelevant. I would have created or posted to a thread like this regardless.
QC is a legitimate question to ask for a brand new device and there are some mysteries about this launch that make it doubly valid to find this out.

I think most people who pre-ordered from the Play store wont have their N7s until at earliest tomorrow. I think thats why some people earlier are confused, lol

First two of the prefix of the serial number Asus puts on its batches, C 2012 the number is the month it was built in 6 for June

Gotcha. This should help to see if there's any pattern to QC problems. At this point I'm guessing it's just random though since they are probably all C6's.

I'm very disappointed by the Play store.
1. Stores were able to sell their stock earlier than Google.
2. The $25 credit sounded like an exclusive, which is why I pre-ordered, but looks like every N7 has the credit regardless of purchase location.
3. Shipping cost, why am I paying $19.99 if I can order the same device somewhere else with free shipping and still get the credit.
Thinking of cancelling my order tomorrow and waiting to buy in-store or from another online retailer.

Cmon man... don't post this stuff here. It's not a ***** fest about the pre order. Most of us are upset... there's lots of threads about it. This is for people who have received play store orders to post their reviews or impressions, nothing more. I am curious to see if C6 is prefix for the per orders though!

Shipping box size and how well packed
No I have not received mine yet, but I am asking from those that do to included a description of packaging for all of us (from NZ and AUS) ordering from Google Play USA to determine cost of freight forwarding and/or whether to get them to re pack or not.
Air freight internationally is often charged by volumetric weight this is determined by size not actual weight. We know the Nexus 7 UPS states shipping weight is 1.6 or 1.7lbs.
Can anyone give the size of the shipping box? I estimate from youtube video to be 10 x 7 x 5 inches, can anyone confirm? If so this is a volumetric weight of 3lbs.
Also can someone comment on how well it is packed?

I pre-ordered 2 units from play store as soon as the page was live, I was able to buy a n7 from a B&M store yesterday and I have no word on the status of my deliveries yet from google. I'll post again once I receive the shipment of 2 to let you know if there are any discernable differences.

Hey, any screen issues with the 32gb? People have noted that there is a spongy affect on the left side when you press on it as well as a ripple affect. They have also noted the light bleed at the top. Any of those?
I was going to pick one up today, but Sandy is almost upon us and I may be without power for a few days, so I wouldn't get to play with it for too long...

can we get a head count on peoples SN, lots of people have C90s and a few of us have CA0K. not sure where the SN jumped, C90 is sept, what is the reference to CA0?

PC World have genral availability across all stores, you may have to ask for it if you dont see it on display.

any other canadian vancouverite purchasers? stores are about to open and ncix throughout has some in stock but i prefer confirmation from bestbuy/fs/staples/walmart where returning doesnt cost 15% fee.

They are already on display with a price and they had multiples in stock.
Its a C9O and has minimal screen lift.

this... staples were all closed in my area today it seems. office depots were open for a bit but said they were sold out this morning. hopefully sandy doesn't do too much damage as it passes through. stay safe!

So far it doesn't look like any stores in Phoenix, AZ are carrying the 32gb yet, but I still have a few places to call. I'll post an update if I get lucky. Otherwise it looks like 3-day shipping from NewEgg is my best bet. Wal-Mart is saying no availability until 11/5 for in-store pickup.
Update 10/29 - found one at the Staples Camelback location in Phoenix. They're not even stocking them on the floor, they're keeping them in the back with a "we have none in stock" sign on the Nexus display.
C90, no lift. Can't wait to root tonight.

I dont notice any issues with QC on mine. Woo hoo.
Staples charging $56 for one year accident protection? Ummm not paying 25% of cost, sorry. Square trade looks like $35 with the Tuesday coupon. 2 years too.

Just reserved one at Currys Nottingham Uk, on the page with the item says can pick up tomorrow, but conformation email says I can pick up within an hour of my order, so may pop down before they close and try get it.... You don't have to pay to order so worth a go. If they won't let me pick up tonight, will see if Comet have one tomorrow as they do 2 year warranty

I bought this. It's well worth the price. It's cut my charging time in half. With the micro USB charger if I used the device while charging, the battery didn't increase at all. It didn't decrease either. With this, it actually charges. Definitely worth buying.

I was thinking about buying one for a while and finally decided it'll be worth it but I'm going to have to wait a month and a half till I'm back to America... meh maybe it'll be cheaper by then

Yep, that's what I got, nice little bag and all. (I think my daughter laid claim to that.) I particularly noticed the "It's fun!!!" business on the paper insert. Most if not all of us are tech geeks here, so by nature we have a somewhat strained conception of what's fun, but this is really pushing it.
Also, isn't Magnector one of the Decepticons? Or was it a band in the 80s?

That's exactly the same as $20 because it use to be $20 + $4.99 for shipping.
Only difference now is that those with amazon prime still pay the $5. Unless you had amazon prime it was $19.99

Actually, it was $19.99 plus $4.56 for shipping -- or at least mine was. The $25.00 with free shipping is a $0.45 increase. I never saw it offered as an Amazon Prime deal.

It was $19.99 as a Prime deal as of Monday, because that's when I ordered mine. Glad I beat the price increase! Just got it yesterday and so far it works great.

Looks like they indeed did raise the price from $20 to $25 :/. The non-prime listing is also $25 and the magnector site charges over >$5 shipping. So it comes out pretty much the same no matter where you order from. No financial benefit from prime this time, just 2-day vs normal shipping.

Does USB work? Or is it only charging?

:laugh: Fortunately I got it at the low price, otherwise I would have been going barefoot for the next year.
This thing charges my tablet way faster than the stock charger, definitely worth it even at the higher price.

This will be my 3rd Nexus 5 since early 2014. Sure, it's refurbished, but comes with a warranty directly from LG, and is supposed to be in like new condition. Even though I have a Nexus 6, I couldn't resist getting another N5 as a second phone. Good deal if you ask me.

Warranty. If it can last 90 days, it will probably last a lot longer. Or you can spend $179 and get brand new. Still better than a Moto G for the same price.

$199 for the red one isn't bad. They're usually more expensive. But I always use a case or skin, so color doesn't matter much to me. You could probably pick one up and sell it on ebay for over $300.
Edit: I cancelled my order with Amazon when I noticed the N5's on expansys were 32gb. I said what the heck and ordered the red one. Will look good in a clear case. Thanks for the heads up.

Definitely! I got the red one myself, I think it's a great deal. Besides the battery and mediocre camera I think the Nexus 5 is my favorite Android phone.

After ordering a new red Nexus 5 from expansys-usa, I was concerned they may send out refurbished units. This is a quote from one of the staff members at expansys: "We've been getting a number of inquiries from customers asking if the Google Nexus 5 D820 32GB we are listing are new or not. While we sell refurbished versions that come in plain boxes and generic adaptors, the ones marked "New" at the end are in fact new, and come in sealed boxes. " Should be good to go. It should be at my door any minute now. Will post pics of box and unboxing.

I bought two, but I had to send one back, because the USB port was visibly broken and wouldn't send or receive data. The other phone looks like a return (great condition and still has all the protective film on it), and it works perfectly.

I too have requested my aunt to buy me a white one from expansys.... I'm buying it for my dad but since I cannot order from my country I requested my aunt at US.,. It might be few weeks before I actually receive the device here at Nepal....I read that it is unlocked and your unboxing relieved me to confirm a new set... Thanks... Anything to look out for since it would be impossible for me to return the set? I will need to ask my aunt to test it before sending me the set... Thanks once again

Yeah I thought it was a decent deal. This is my third one now. It might be 2 years old , but it's just as fast as my Nexus 6. The specs are still very respectable and it runs MM like a dream. I got it as a second phone to split the wear and tear on my N6 because I'm going to keep these 2 phones until 2017 when I can get a '16 Nexus a little cheaper.

Does anyone think we will get the Note 7 shipped to us this week for those who ordered it? I ordered mine in Aug 4th. Everyone says they always get their phones at least a week before the stores officially start selling them.

AT&T's shipping Wednesday or Thursday. Last year for the Note5 they shipped on 8/13 when the release date was 8/21. I guess we'll see.

5 to 7 days sounds about right. Maybe earlier, I didn't keep track. I've had A LOT of devices. They always ship early

I haven't had a Android phone since the Note 3. I'm jumping from the IPhone 6 Plus to the Note 7. I ordered mine through AT&T on the 5th around 5am. I've seen one AT&T guys says his phone is ready for shipment. Mine still says "In Progress" and "Your item is in process for shipping." Does this mean I'll hopefully have mine shipped this week?

I preorded a Note 7 through Sprint and they are shipping on 8/17 since Store launch is 8/19.

All the orders from all the carriers have the same "official" shipping dates which coincide with Samsung's "official" U.S. launch/on-sale date. The launch date for the Note5 was August 21st and AT&T shipped mine on August 13th. I know T-Mobile shipped the Note5 early too. That's what everyone here is hoping happens again.

Actually Sprint's site says "Ships by 8/17" So they are almost guaranteeing it will be earlier then that. But we don't know how much earlier.

Where can I find an estimated ship date after pre-ordering with JOD from T-Mobile? I looked at my lease agreement and all it mentions is pricing.

With my Verizon preorder I received an email with tracking updates.

I didn't have a down payment, so it's a bit higher.
It's $37.50*18mo + $175 Purchase Option ($850 total). I'll also pay sales tax in the end.

I thought the 70 down was required? I know the sales tax is not charged in the beginning like Regular jump.

I Dont believe that's accurate, no issues with my credit. Just like the iPhones, you go above 16gb version and they want money down. it States on the website 69.99 up front for note 7.

The minimum down payment is $69.99, even for the most well qualified customers. You will not be charged until the phone ships though.
