hello everybody!! I have a GT-N7000 with stock rom and 3 days ago it has become completely dead! there was 50% in the battery, so after 10 minutes i came and found it turned off so i tried to turn it on and it turned on but it froze at the samsung logo screen and tried rebooting 3 times but it didn't work. and now its completely dead it acts like its water damaged but it isn't. So after all that I went to Montreal GSM for a fix but they diagnosed the problem to be water damage so I told them okay fix it, and when i came to get my phone back he told me that this wasn't the problem! so now i have my phone with me and dunno what to do with it!could it be the mother board?and if its the mother does anyone know how much does it cost to replace it in samsung service center in montreal? Thank you guys!!!
yeah and two more things I tried another battery but nothing worked
and there was a screen showing up during rebooting and something strange was written on it " some custom roms might fail the system" somthing like that. i'm not sure cuz it only showed up for 2 sec.
thank u again
Motherboard is pretty expensive. No download mode also? Make sure there is a charged battery. Remove the battery and reinsert it. Press volume down + home + power. Anything at all?

Dear everyone
My nephew just gor p970 yesterday
for the name of curiosity, i checked and tried the phone.
the rom is 10a
i did root using gingerbreak
it was succeed. i dont kno why i has to root anyway.
actually no need for installing the special app.
then i registered the phone to access to the market.
installing some media music player with lyrics lrc.
the phone then warns the battery just 15%.
i plugged it to the power AC, and continues selecting the music apps.
after several minutes somehow it hangs, the music is jammed.
i pulled the power cord.
i tried turn off by hold the power button not helped. then i removed the battery.and put in back.
restarted, the 4 low phone button was blinking, the screen was grey.
for several minutes, there's no sign froyo menu.
hopeless, i removed the battery.and put in back agin..
i tried to turn on the phone, and it just like no sign of life. no lg logo.
just quiet like corpse. oh dear, what i have just done?
i dont think it is bootloop case, and i dont think it is software issue, right?
charged for 2 hours without any sign of charging, no led indicating what so ever.
still like a dead mobile phone without battery.
Just remove Memory card sim card and flash ur phone with latest V20o or v20e firmware using SMARTFLASH tool. U will get it in development section serch for post [ROOT] v20b and v20o i hope ur phone will work again

There's no way to turn on the phone at least to software upgrade mode via hard reset or something.
no screen / beep / led that was turned on when i push the power button or even when i charge it. totally gave up.
Remove your SIM Card, SD Card and Battery. And Press Hold Volume + Key while Plugging USB Cable to your phone. Your phone should be in S/W Mode, then try Flashing it using SmartFlash.
Check your power cord,is it connected or not?
i mean, it happened to me once (the power is off )
Can't get into the s/w upgrade or what?

i checked the power cord with others also, nokia phone that has same power cord.the nokia was charging, where the optimus was not, not given any clue charging. no led. no sound. nothing. creep...
i just went to the store, and checked with the demo stock battery. it's dead cannot turned on, same. no sign of life.
i gave it back to my nephew to check it to service center tomorrow office hour. i am felling bad bricking his phone. i never bricked original rom smartphone before. it is so badly there's no sign of life.
the question is remaining in my head: this because of the not so qualified first optimus black stocks since it is using 10a, or my miss-use?
i did nt flashing custom rom inside it, i don't think i miss-use it.
it;s no sign of lg boot or minimal sound of turned on, i don't think sw upgrade manually in house will help, right? i did try the hard reset method, up/down volume button with power button pressed at the same time continuouslyand i think plugged in also with usb computer.
there's no new usb device detected.
there's no sign of going to s/w upgrade.
this is just not my day. maybe i have to many sins for jailbreaking
hopefully he can have changed for a new one, rather than serviced for weeks.
Just volume up and then plug in the usb cable. That's how you enter sw mode. But no sign of life at all, is really strange...

same thing with mine
i ve been usinfg OB for 4 months now, and ve used all sought of roms since then and no problem. presently was on sapphire rom 2.2, tried making a call and all of a sudden d screen was off colour, so i removed battery, placed it back in and can't even get the LG logo when switching on. On using volume up plus power key it entered software upgrade mode but this does not show on the screen, used smart flash and it even made it worse. i ve taken it to LG centre now waiting for reply.

Like agent205 said, it might be a factory problem. My phone died also like that. I put it to charge and in the morning I just couldn't turn it on. So I use the guarantee and they sent it back after 3 weeks, just saying that they replaced the motherboard (and also replaced software lol). Good luck !

yes it wont respond to usb without battery , no signal, and same with battery. ;(
Can you charge the phone?
Vol+ and insert USB does not work, no sw Upgrade Modus?
When yes, flash firmware again.
When no, its hardbricked, then send to service.

The phone was plugged in to my computer (I was doing development) and was running all the time. Suddenly, while I was not doing development or doing anything, the phone died and I have have never been able to turn it on again.
I've tried:
Hold the Power button
Hold both Power and Volume down button
Take out the battery and put it in again
Replace the batter with another one from my friends' working-perfectly-fine Galaxy S3
The result is the same: no response from the phone at all - it's completely cold, no sound, light or vibration at all - all I've seen is the blank unchanged screen so please don't ask me about the start up screen
What can I do?
*Notes: I've read this thread but my warranty has ran out so bringing it to Samsung is not really the best option.

If you are going to replacet the motherboard and use the same phone, your data should still be there.
If you are going to use a new phone, you have to take out the hard drive and connect to it to get the data from there.
There is no hard drive in the Galaxy S3, just an eMMC flash chip soldered to the motherboard.

Are you sure all people on this forum are developers? Also, just what kind of developers?
Again, my answer could be wrong but how can it cause problem for others?
Let's break it down:
I said data should not be lost after motherboard replacement
There is no action required here so how can it lead to anything harmful?
Last time I checked, the data in my S3 was still there after its motherboard was replace
Taking out the hard drive from the phone was the part I wasn't sure
As of now, I can see that it's apparently wrong as someone pointed out
However, if there is no hard drive ==> how can one take it out ==> how can one damage anything?
How can I be responsible for anything here?
What do say now Mr. smart developer?
Please provide something concrete and convincing.
Don't waste your time, don't waste mine
After checking my hard brick phone by a bestbuy technical, i was told my phone was totally dead. The phone wouldnt connect to PC, can't do power charge, no any response even the jig method. And the data is gone. However, I am not sure how the data backup works. maybe they just don't wanna do it or their lack of doing it.
Normally, the data recovery from damaged hardware is expensive. cause it need plenty of time and they probably think the customer wouldn't pay for that.
Directly replace a motherboard could cost less than repair it. In some cases, could even replace a new phone cost less than a new motherboard. Technically, backup data from hard brick phone could be possible.

Similar problem with my Samsung Galaxy S3. Mine turned off randomly and wouldn't turn on again for half a day each time. The last time it happened it wouldn't turn on for a day, so I tried the DOWNLOAD MODE combination, cancelled it, got prompted to RESTART PHONE then it turned on again.
I took in my phone directly to Samsung Customer Service in Albany, Auckland (for New Zealand people). They found that the "current was not stable" and all they had to do was replace the mainboard. It only took them half a day to repair and it was covered by warranty. He said the cost of the mainboard, outside of warranty, would cost around NZD $260.
Replacing mainboard shouldn't affect your memory but it is always best to back up your phone via Samsung Kies (or something similar) before taking it in for repair. According to the Samsung guy, in New Zealand, they are not legally allowed to back up a customer's data on any of their computers, but there is no harm in asking them if you trust them to do so.
Hope this helps

Replacing the main board replaces all data except the External SD-Card, as the EMMC is built onto the motherboard, they can always backup the /data over QPST, where it isn't readable by any program except that one.

This morning I went to get my phone from it's charger, but the screen wouldn't wake. Then I realised it wouldn't even boot. I removed the battery for a while and tried again, I got the LG logo spinning for a while but still nothing else.
I keep trying holding volume down with the power for a while, power up etc, but nothing gets it to boot. Any ideas? I'm running the stock v.20a as far as I remember.
Thanks!

I bought it impatiently from Amazon.de from germany. I don't think the warranty counts, when I had a proximity sensor problem they wouldn't help me!
Phew - found it was just the charger that was at fault! Completely dead battery was all - a different charger and now it's coming back to life!

In normal situation when you press the button you activate the keyguard and it going to sleep after a few time. The software (keyguard) follows the hardware (button). In your case because of the damage of the hardware the button is always on and holds on the keyguard. Maybe i'm wrong but one other solution is to install a custom rom and deactivate the hardware button with the problem. You can activate and the navigation bar if you want. I think that can solve the problem also.

Don't open the phone if its still on warranty, just get it to the repair center. If you have no luck with getting your phone repaired for free try opening it as your last resort
EDIT: its obviously no software issue, it would be fixed by making a factory reseT/install custom ROM but you say you have already done that.

It isnt on warranty...and if it is its water damage and 99% they won't fix it!!!
Sometimes there is only a rest of water in phone. (Also same days later)
Put the phone without accu a few days in uncooked rice! (Maybe it is to late. Immediately after the bath rice is the best you can do)
One month ago,i dropped my Htc one mini 2 in a pot of water. I should say that i rapidly took it out (3-4 sec.)
The screen remained on for just 10 seconds, then the phone became completely dead. I have used rice, silica gel and i managed to turn it on,but the phone was rebooting every 5 minutes. At least no other part was damaged, while it was on i could connect it to WiFi, listen to music to speakers, play games... I`ve sent it warranty, they told me that they can repair it after i pay ~150 euros.
After i received it, i wasn`t able to turn it on at all. The led was blinking and all i could get was the logo with the red battery. (photo in thread). I succeeded to turn it on by pressing the power button+volume up 2 minutes.
Battery shows 0%, 0 mAh, 3,37V.
Is it a dead battery? What should i do? Before warranty the battery was completely fine.
I live in Romania, and here there are only 2 authorized services. Except that, i trust no one.
Please, if u know some solutions that may help, answer this post.
Thank you for patience and help.
PS: I want to highlight the lack of water resistance of this phone...

you should contact the service that done the repair and explain that the phone its not working.
Thank you for response I sent a mail to the service, but they didn`t answer.
I managed to fix the charging problem . I opened the device properly, i disconnected the connectors from the motherboard, i cleaned them and then when i reconnected it all worked. Phone charges to 100%.
BUT, i get random restarts. They are absolutely unexplainable . It`s really annoying.
Finally, if i fix the restart problem the phone is brand new.
It may be a software or a power problem !? (after restart the battery history gets deleted)
I guess it isn`t a hardware problem as long as the phone does not restart at all while it`s in RECOVERY or FASTBOOT.
If u have any ideas, everythink would help. I`ll come again if i fixed something. (i try to clean cache and data and factory reset)
