Hey all, so my sister wanted me to help he install CM10 on her Kindle so I followed Hashcode's guide in the development forum. I carefully read the instructions step by step but for some reason, the Kindle ended up bootlooping on the Kindle Fire logo.
I proceeded to order a fastboot cable but it never arrived so I ended up creating my own this afternoon. It managed to get the Kindle into fastboot mode just fine and here's where things really go south. I downloaded the SRT from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1951254 and chose option 5 "Check fastboot status" to ensure the Kindle is correctly recognised. Then for some reason the Kindle rebooted and is now stuck in a bootloop that I cannot get out of with my homemade fastboot cable.
It will boot showing the Kindle Fire logo, then immediately show the "fastboot" screen and then reboot immediately after that all in the space of 2 seconds. Rinse and repeat. So is this Kindle done for? I've tried normal USB as well as the fastboot cable but it just seems to constantly reboot as described to no avail. What I don't get is why it will go to the fastboot screen even if I try turning it on "without being plugged in" / "plugged in with normal cable" / "plugged in with factory cable".
Is it possible my home made factory cable is a dud and if I get a proper one I can fix it? Or maybe the battery is dead and it doesn't have enough charge to stay on? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Ok, spent the whole day reading over threads on XDA and it seems like the Kindle is done for
Doesn't seem like anyone has ever recovered from this before. *sigh* my first ever Android device brick

So with the fast boot cable plugged in you don't get a fast boot logo that stays booted?

Might make sure you have the proper fast bit drivers then try a few commands in fast boot to attempt to exit fast boot
fastboot -i 0x1949 reboot
then try to use the kindle fire HD restore tool instead I just don't trust the ffaide tool.

Ahhh!!! I'm so happy right now!! Thank you so so much mrkhigh. I had ENTIRELY given up on the fastboot screen because it only ever showed up for a second or two before bootlooping. I thought it was a corrupt bootloader and I tried so many times to reflash the bootloader in those couple of seconds but I'd always be stuck on the "waiting for device" screen.
I then tried your command "fastboot -i 0x1949 reboot" and it worked. So I'm now thinking simple commands may do the trick. I then entered the command "fastboot -i 0x1949 oem idme bootmode 4000" and now it's no longer looping.
Attempting to restore my original boot.img, recovery.img and system.img files now and hopefully it boots!
By the way, as I was following Hashcode's guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2128848
It required downgrading the bootloader to 7.2.3. I'm pretty sure I was updated to the latest version before this whole debacle. Will my original backups work with the older bootloader than I downgraded to?
EDIT - Nevermind! Everything restored back to stock!! All working perfectly!
Thank you so so much!
I think you are doing a complete restore so you should be fine but as long as you have fast boot you'll get it.
Just get back to normal a second attempt if you follow his directions exactly step by step you will succeed.
Make sure you have a rom on it to flash .
it isn't a suggestion as he makes it sound you WILL boot loop if you do not.

Ok, tried a second time at installing a 2nd bootloader and TWRP and it worked. I've now got Kinology installed on the Kindle and all is well. So relieved I didn't kill my sister's device!
I was considering binning the tablet because my warranty is out and the symptoms matched exactly with all the other threads I linked and there was never a solution other than to return the Kindle.
If anyone ever runs into the same problem, hopefully they can fix it the same way I did with the command:
Code:
fastboot -i 0x1949 oem idme bootmode 4000
So now you have twrp working. Gratz! Kinology is a solid Rom, but there's a handful of others that offer way more options. You have the luxury now of being able to "test drive" each Rom, so long as you back up your "old reliable" in twrp before you have a go at it.
I suggest Hashcodes cm10.1, pacman or jellybeer. Remember though, these roms have been modified to run on our device... so expect some minor issues. Read up on each before flashing.
Good luck!

I was just playing with the Rom tool box app. I hit re boot recovery and a screen popped up that said Fastboot kindle fire and just stayed there until I held the power button and re booted the device. Has anyone seen this and can fastboot be used?

Are you sure this is the new kindle fire hd. Because I tried it and it said your kindle cannot boot and gave me the option to re boot or factory reset. And since it has a locked boot loader you can not use fast boot.
Its definitely KFHD. I'll try to do it again a take a pic. I guess my real question is can fast boot be used with a locked bootloader?

Yes, the new KF's can be put into fastboot mode.
Yes, you can issue fastboot commands to it.
No, that does not mean you can flash it with a new recovery or ROM and have it boot.
Be careful what you do here. There are very few options left to you if you brick this device. If you don't know what you're doing and you don't think things through before playing around in fastboot, you may not like the results.
I didn't think so. And I definitely won't be playing around in fast boot. Thanks for the response though

First off let me thank each of you that share your expertise to help others on this forum. I’m truly amazed and so impressed at the level and detail of the technical insight provided through this forum. I know it takes time and patience, so again I say thank you.
I’ve read through as many posts in this KFDH forum as I could find on this topic and tried just about every recommendation. There may not be a workable solution to this problem but I figured I’d pass it up to the gods for their insight and expertise!
First off, I am not the original owner of this device. I purchased from someone in the current condition with the idea that given enough time I might could resurrect it. I honestly have no idea if they acquired it through legitimate means.
This KFHD 7” is stuck at the Fastboot screen. I can reboot and see the Kindle Fire splash screen and then it goes straight to the fastboot screen.
I finally got the device drivers loaded under Win7. I had to modify the .INF file for the driver to load. It shows as a Kindle Fire/Android Composite ADB interface.
The hardware ID shows as:
USB\VID_1949&PID_0007&REV_0100
USB\VID_1949&PID_0007
I loaded the Android SDK but could never get ADB to connect/work.
I’ve downloaded and tried the KFHD_SR tool and the KF Fist Aide tools.
I can connect to the device via fastboot and successfully issue a reboot command fastboot -i 0x1949 reboot
A fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product returns:
product: Tate-PVT-08
finished. total time: 0.002s
Prior to my last attempt to flash 7.2.1 from the KF System Recovery tool via fastboot I also received the serial info on a getvar product command (I masked the serial with XXXX but numbers were there)
product: Tate-PVT-08
finished. total time: 0.000s
XXXX000200000001 fastboot
If I try to change the boot mode via fastboot -i 0x1949 oem idme bootmode 4000 I receive
...
FAILED (remote failure)
finished. total time: 0.023s
I’ve tried twice to flash the boot, recovery and system and then erase the cache and userdata and via fastboot. All of it looks to work just fine. But rebooting brings it right back to fastboot.
I don’t have a factory cable, but seems like I didn’t need one since it already goes to fastboot and I can talk to the device.
So can anyone point me in a direction to further assess or attempt to resolve this brain teaser?
Thanks in advance for any assistance!
MAX
I wonder if somehow pin 1 and 4 is shorted on your kindle
That would probably force you into a permanent fastboot....

Try getting a fastboot cable either make one or buy one. Then follow these steps to install all drivers and necessary sdk files.
1. Download the sdk package from here http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html#download
2. Open the file you downloaded and take the sdk folder and the sdk manager file and copy it to you hard drive. C:/sdk C Being the hard drive letter.
3. Now you need to open up sdk manager and go to tools menu and select manager addon sites. Now select user defined sites tab and select new and enter this site http://kindle-sdk.s3.amazonaws.com/addon.xml and click ok.
4. You need to click the following boxes to install the packages you need. TOOLS, ANDROID 4.0.3 (api 15), and EXTRAS. Then click install packages to install them.
5. Now you need to install JDK from here http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk7-downloads-1880260.html
6. Now you need to install your basic java from here http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp
7. Now you need to install kindle fire hd adb drivers from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1890413
8. Now shut down your kindle and connect your kindle to your pc and let it boot all the way and unlock the lock screen.
You should now be able to use your fastboot cable by shutting down and plugging it in.

Thank you for the responses.
After reading the response from mrkhigh, I thought i'd take a look. I pulled the motherboard off and took a close look at the microUsb connection and where it attached tot he circuit board. So now things make a little more sense
Looks like some type of liquid or something got inside to the motherboard.
So now i guess i'll part it out or something.
Anyone got any other ideas?
You cant clean it?
Brush dipped in contact cleaner and distilled water....
Dont spray contact cleaner directly on it ... they tend to eat stuff...

Did you follow mrkhigh's suggestion and clean it, and now it won't boot at all?
If so, you probably just need a factory cable. This XDA thread has the necessary pinout information, and there are several people selling them. I had an old MiniUSB to MicroUSB adaptor lying around that just got the necessary pins jumpered, and now any MiniUSB cable can be a factory cable.
It seems like (with fastboot) it's pretty hard to permanently brick these.
i have this exact problem. tried everything and it still goes right back to fastboot mode. any fix or anything?

Fastboot cord uses fastboot commands while in fastboot. This is the link to Kindle Fire FirstAid http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2096888 Once you follow the steps for setup and run it, you will choose number 3 to go back to 7.2.3 When asked if you want to reboot into fastboot, choose no because you are in fastboot.
You can use the regular USB to get into fastboot mode but not now that you are in a bootloop. After running KFFA to restore to 7.2.3 you will also use it to root and remove OTA updates then install gapps or if you are going to go custom romm with 2nd bootloader and TWRP recovery, skip gapps and move on to the latter. Do NOT use KFFA to install TWRP/2nd bootloader or any ROM. Use FireFlash.

So you're saying that you had a bootloop and you ran Kindle Fire FirstAide. Which numbers/options did you press? Plugging that fastboot cord in will power your Kindle Fire HD and send it into fastboot no matter the battery charge. Where did you get the fastboot cord from? A reliable source? I'm only asking because if the battery were low and the wire that connects pins 1 to 4 (think) that energize the Kindle into fastboot mode are somehow faulty, then this would stop the kindle from going into fastboot. However, if the fastboot cord is working, it would seem you have a hard brick. I will look around to see if there is a solution for this.

Thanks for help mate. I bought it from amazon and it seemed to be the most reliable source http://www.amazon.com/EarlyBirdSavi...ywords=kindle+factory+cable&tag=s601000020-20
I firstly reboot the bootloader couple of times like people suggested me. When that didn't help I restored it and like i gave a detail in other post that it took fair amount of time like 45 mins of reading and writing the .img files. Even the message was prompted that 'Your kindle has been restored to 7.2.3, the only thing is that all this while the display of my Kindle didn't changed and was fixed on 'Fastboot Kindle fire' logo. I was disappointed with this device from start due to that crappy kindle OS which made it way too slow and things kept freezing and crashing all the time. Since I am in colombia and used a freight service for this cable to be delivered, i ended up paying 30 USD for the cable. I don't think I will be sending it for repair , it just don't worth it the expenses for the repair and the shipping cost from Colombia and vice versa. May be will keep experimenting and looking on XDA if at some point of time hard brick issue could be fixed.

This relies on you having a working device (as long as it can boot at all, you're good). If you wish to enter fastboot mode to flash system images like new versions of TWRP or restore Amazon OS 7.2.3 if you've got freezing or bootloops, then you need a regular USB cable that came with the device, or any other mini-USB cable that fits the device and the computer. Again, you need to have Android SDK installed before you can use fastboot. Turn the device off, and leave it unplugged. Go to your computer, open command prompt, and type this:
Code:
fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
Hit enter, and it should return with <waiting for device>. If it doesn't, your fastboot drivers aren't working. Install Android SDK and go from there. If it does, connect your turned-off Kindle to the computer. Two things will happen: one, the command prompt will show "Tate-xxx-xxx" (something there), and two, your Kindle should reboot into fastboot mode. To exit fastboot mode, after you finished flashing what you needed, type this:
Code:
fastboot -i 0x1949 reboot
If you can fully boot into the ROM, you can use ADB to boot into fastboot, but you must still use the same command above to reboot out of fastboot mode. Then make sure ADB is turned on through settings, connect the device to the computer using a regular USB cable, and type this:
Code:
adb shell su -c "reboot bootloader"
And that's all for the basics! Let's move on to the actual process.

Still nothing the tablet boots to the logo and shuts down. Will i need to purchase one of the fastboot cables or a nexus 7?
If it's a kfhd 7" or kf2, then a fastboot cable is your best bet, the fastboot getvar product command only works on a 8.9" model unless you have 2nd boot loader on the other models.

Damn well that's better then having to pay for a new tablet. I put it on the charger after reading that it may be a charging issue. I know it only trickle charges through USB. It still does the same thing but where the screen would be black behind the kindle fire logo it is green with lines running through it. I will let it charge try again and then buy the cable if anything. Any other thoughts or ideas?
Uh I hope the boot loader isn't damaged too bad, I haven't heard of green lines going through it before, usually if something goes bad with the 2nd bootloader installation process(aka not downgrading first) it results in a red screen. This is probably due to a bad download of the boot loader, that's why it is always key to check the md5sum of the boot loader before you downgrade it.

Lines in the screens, good LCD screen not withstanding, are not good. Normally this is a firmware issue that required Amazon to send a replacement. Let's hope KFFA restores everything for you.

I let it charge overnight and booted it and it is still only booting to the kindle fire logo and shutting down. Luckily the screen is black now rather than the green I mentioned. So is my best course of action the fast boot cable and then KFFA? I will try the fastboot commands again when i get home. Is KFFA only going to help me in the sense of restoring the files or will it potentially help me with the fastboot process as well? The above method that I used with the fireflash 11 is that proper or should i be doing it some other way?
I personally think the fire flash method is the easiest, some people brick though because they don't follow the instructions properly, I don't think this was the case with you though. That kindle is more than likely not going to go into fastboot with commands, that typically is a 8.9" thing unless you have a successful flash of 2nd bootloader. I know kffa restores the system partition and recovery and boot, but I am unaware if it flashes the boot loader, and I am pretty sure you definitely need to reflash the bootloader since it had lines through it.

You must have a fastboot factory cord, not a regular USB. Watch this video to make sure you have your ADB driver set up right http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaNM-lt_aHw Use KFFA to restore to 7.2.3. Choose that option as Hashcode has a 7.2.3 boot.img that will match the firmware you will be using, reducing the chance or bootlooping a great deal.

If your going to use FireFlash, you can go to seokhun's thread and read uo on flashing the 2nd bootloader / TWRP http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2271909
Some great info about this on Opemsystem's thread as well. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2347170
Hashcode's thread has the files you need to flash. If you choose 7.2.3, use boot.img 7.2.3 located right below step 4 of Hascodes thread. Not number 4 of step 2, but right below step 4 and the TWRP 2.6.1.0 in his original post. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2128848
I've been trying to fix this for 5 days now I've been reading through forums for hours and I've now come to this I need some real help...
I have a Kindle Fire HD 7 store demo model..
I'm trying to root it and get rid of the store Demo restrictions
This is as far as i could get.
I used this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1951254
To try and get back to factory settings but this didn't work.
I'm stuck in boot loop now ending in a red triangle screen telling me kindle couldn't boot correctly.
I have a fastboot cable so i can get to fast boot.
What I've been thinking is maybe I need to root first before anything in the above post will work but I'm not sure on that.
I haven't been able to discover my kindle in adb using cmd while in fastboot.. Not sure if that is possible in fastboot anyways.
So my real question is how can i either root my kindle in fastboot and flash twrp
I've tried to flash twrp a few times and it seems to have worked as far as cmd but when i get to the device nothing works.
I'm not rooted and I believe that to be the first step can anyone help me?
Please help..
If you don't have 2nd boot loader installed you can't install twrp and have it work... Also you don't need root for fastboot to work which is all that system restore tool uses.If it's in fastboot and it's a 7" model then it should have appeared in the device m,manager as a Tate device once you entered fastboot. Switch to a normal cable once you are in fastboot mode. Once that happens run "fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product" and see if it returns anything. If things still go nowhere I suggest trying an Ubuntu live 13.10 CD/USB stick. Tell me how it goes.
