At what point does the Nexus 4 launch officially become a failure?

I was disappointed to find the Play store broken and then the Nexus 4 sold out when it reappeared on the day of it's "launch".
Probably not as disappointed as the people who did place an order and then didn't get their phone and are still waiting though.
With no idea of when it's coming back into stock and the busiest shopping day of the year in the US tomorrow, the Nexus 4 is going to lose the traction in the media and minds of the public that it had.
If the rumors about no stock until December are true, a lot of people will buy something else. As it is, there are already new handsets appearing (like the HTC Droid DNA) and if we see similar shortages and a similar clusterf*** on the sales and fulfillment side of things, getting phones before Xmas could well be doubtful, certainly getting a defective phone could mean no chance of a return/replacement if being purchase for a Christmas present.
I had to laugh when many of the Android blogs are leading with a story about the official N4 bumper case... and the comments to those articles are full of anger from Google customers still waiting for the phone, never mind the case.
When do you call this "launch" more of a failure to launch?
As far as I am concerned, it's a FAIL.

Yep. Point of view is key. Phone sold out in under an hour due to massive demand? People so eager to get their hands on it they resort to overpriced Ebay and store sales. That's a marketing department's wet dream.

It's easy to sell anything out if you only have a tiny number of them
And with no system for taking orders, no information of when new stock is arriving and in some cases no shipping date for people who did manage to order, I'd say a lot of that demand could trickle away.
They are certainly making Apple look good.

As far as I'm concerned, this has already been a fail for Google. It is their second time they've failed miserably with the selling of a Nexus device. They just can't seem to learn...

If you can let us know how many Google had for sale that would be nice, as I take it you have the exact stock numbers to back that statement up.

The Nexus 4 is a marketing win for Google and the Android brand. Whether we get to use or like the phone is besides the point. Reviews of the glass sealed phone have been written and published. Done. On to the next Nexus phone for Google.

Why would I need the exact stock numbers? I just stated that when you introduce very few devices into the channel, it's easy to sell out and create the impression of big sales.
Apple have been doing this for years.
Did it take Google by surprise? That a phone they've been pushing... sorry... leaking, for 2 months and got blanket press coverage - which was then sold at an abnormally low price - sold out quickly.
Man, that is such a surprise! And after the Nexus 7 as well!
The big surprise is that 10 days later they still haven't got any more stock and are about to enter the run up to Christmas, with, yes, you guessed it, no stock and no word on when they will have stock.
I recommended the Nexus 4 to three friends, one of whom dropped their iPhone 4 into water at the end of last month and was looking for a replacement. They won't wait for ever and that guy went out and bought an iPhone 4S yesterday.

I have my N4 and the failure began on the 13th when Google didn't ship on a first come basis.
The failure continued with Google's refusal to acknowledge customer's complaints and did not relay correct information to support.
I understand how a big launch works and I understand **** happens, but Google's ignoring of the issues and leaving support to fend for themselves by lying does nothing but harm the reputation of the company and hurts the consumer.
I know I will think twice about ordering from the Play store again, I didn't learn my lesson with the N7.

Love this phone !!!
Only ones that are calling it a fail are ones that didn't get one,and tell the truth ID prob be right there pissed off 2 if i didn't get mine , but as soon as they become available agn those people will be first ones right there buying one . Google didn't fail Google did it exactly like they wanted to , its Google they do what they want

I would be, because as I mentioned above, I recommended this phone to other people.
Almost normal people.
You know - the kind of people who don't sit next to their browser hitting the refresh button 20 times a minute.
It's quite normal to sell out of a new device at launch. It's less normal to then have no stock for 10 days and no information.
(Although I grant you, it's quite normal for Google to not give information).

Sold out. Good phone. Therefore not a failure imo.

Recently users have been reporting calls on their new O2 numbers however O2 have said that all communication regarding the competition will be through twitter and will receive a tweet when the television is on its way. - member ajsuk
Update: around 20 Televisions remaining - competition closed
Update: DM's by O2 indicate a delivery from 10th for some users and 12th for others, majority of people should receive it within that week.

There was a tweet 2 hours ago which received a reply so I'd say your chances are good. you have to make sure you get it in-store and on a pay monthly contract to qualify!
Online and telephone orders don't qualify and I've seen that the tweets are ignored.
update: 22mins actually!

Good idea, will keep other thread clean for people looking to get n4 and will drown once people get their tv's in a few weeks.

Thanks for the replies fellas. I left o2 just a few weeks ago, but might just do this to get the TV. So if I take the £13.50 tariff I can cancel the bolt on and pay off the contract after I get the TV? I am just sick of waiting on Google, and trying to weigh my options. I appreciate the patience guys!

You sure can, I'd let it run until the TV turns up just in case though. I'm letting mine run for the 2 years though, never know could come in handy from time to time and the priority moments can be quite good sometimes

Yep, @o2 with #lifeisgood at the end and await a reply then hopefully reply back to their direct msg to you with your details. I also got my mobile contract paperwork in the picture, covering up personal details just to make it clear I've signed up to a contract.

Had a look on eBay and there isn't any for sale, so I'm not sure how easy it's gonna be to resell, but I'll give it a go anyway. I've got a good TV anyway, so I'm purely involved just to get some cash back on the inflated price for the contract.

My missus got declined a TV. Done everything exactly like me but for some reason the morons said sorry not on this occasion. Bloody knobheads! She promptly returned the N4 to the nearest O2 shop.

the 10% ebay fees is really annoying so I don't think I would sell on ebay. I'm still on the fence on whether to sell it or keep the TV, my current TV is not as good but no one in my family really watches TV except my mum and I know she doesn't care for smart TV lol.

Should be pretty straightforward to sell it, it's a fantastic TV after all.

Well that sucks, because none of the local stores have any stock, or, as far as I could ascertain (the staff hadn't heard of the N4 and had to look it up) ever have.
That condition isn't in the T&C..

Nexus 4 - Round 2 for international stores

It looks like lots of people who bought it in the US on the 27th have had their orders shipped. I would rather not go through that thread looking for updates when it's just people discussing when their package will be delivered. It's also been a few days since US store opened.

My 2 cents - I like the idea of a new thread. Perhaps we could have in the OP the latest news / rumors for the international stores (or even US if they have stopped allowing new orders) about when new orders may go up. I made a mention on G+ to the Google Canada peeps but got no response (not that I expected one!). My gut tells me next week at least one international store will get sales going again..
I'm waiting until January before I go with a different phone, but my 2010 Acer phone is repeatly begging me to put it out of it's misery..

That's pretty much why I created this thread. All day I look for updates and then open up a thread and it's all about people who've ordered already and are just wondering if their phone is going to be there either today or tomorrow

Well that's the real question... if the US is looking at 4-5 weeks for their current orders, all of these phones come from the same manufacturing plant right? I'm beginning to think perhaps the agreement with LG is just not allowing sufficient stock to be built to cover the demand of the US, much less the rest of the planet.
That's why I'm saying I give them December - but I could quite possibly see them essentially blocking international sales for the next few months and only focusing on one region. Complete speculation here - don't take this as any sort of fact please.

Nice article... just brings to light the misjudgment on Google's part to not have a reasonable limit per order in the first round...
As for international stores I think O2 in the UK will carry it? I'm hoping Best Buy or Future shop will carry it as well but I doubt it since it's not locked to a carrier.

I won't be patient, but I'll at least try not to moan

OP, it would be good to move the original "round 2" op inform to here...no need to include n4checker
I also think it might be helpful to indicate the country when one posts any rumor or speculation given the fact this is an international thread. Just a thought.

Two German stores will have them. Both of them have preorder option.

Waiting patiently until the Nexus 4 shows up in the UK.

13th is just when o2 lose exclusivity and other carriers can offer it, three will be overcharging for it then.
Play store doesn't have this restriction its just a matter of when Google get their finger out.

And here we are with nothing. Annoying.

I ordered a Nexus 7 through the Playstore only to find out my local Sam's Club had them in stock the day prior to my device shipping. I canceled my order then hopped to the store and got one after begging an employee to check their stock for this tablet.

I remember last year when the Nexus 4 launched, I waited until 2am waiting for it to go live then woke up late and still ended up getting one somehow. Hopefully, supply will be far better than it was at launch this time.

What is wrong with google, they may start to accept pre-orders to reduce load of the server and not make people suffer by not sleeping

No that makes too much sense to accept preorders and kills the feeding frenzy publicity. The fact you couldn't get one stoked the demand for the Nexus 4.

And you don't know much about supply and demand do you.
People pre-order things way before stuff is even manufactured, CD's / kick starter projects / cars e.c.t
Its as good as announced now what ever Google says about it won't make any differance now.
Pre-orders are used to gauge demand by many companies, its amazing that Google have not got it up yet, seems they have not learnt fully from the nexus 4 issues.
Lots of stock is great but a sudden release will cause havock with servers e.c.t also they should clamp down on outlets selling them much higher than googles rrp.

Key word: MANUFACTURED. The Nexus 5 has not been announced by Google or LG. I know what pre-orders are. But how do you pre-order something that hasn't been announced? You pre-order things that a company tells you it is going to make, but it either hasn't yet made it or hasn't yet released it to the general public for sale. Everything we know about the Nexus 5 comes from third-party sources. Until Google or LG announce the phone, either in an official announcement or an indirect announcement by just placing it on sale, there is nothing to pre-order.

I'm away from my home in Australia for a while. Is there any way I could access the Australia Play Store to order the Nexus 5 when it launches? I've tried several VPN services but nothing works! Help!!

According to Nexus 4 Wiki and a user in another thread here, the Nexus 4 was released in the Australian play store the same day as the US.

Have you tried putting in your Australian SIM card? In a lot of cases, that determines which Play Store you get access to. If I access the Play Store from Canada on my T-Mobile phone that has a T-Mobile SIM in it, I still get the U.S. Play Store.

Free 50" LG 4K TV [T-Mobile]

So, just a heads up. I seen an ad pop up on my FB feed and it was: Get the new LG G8 on EIP and get a FREE 50" LG 4K TV!
So I went to my local Tmobile store and asked about it. No one knew what I was talking about. So the guy called the "Signature" Store, for me its the Las Vegas Blvd T-Mobile Store, and it was confirmed!
Its a Launch Promotion only offered at T-Mobile Signature Stores between 4/12/2019 until 4/14/2019. So I scheduled my appt. for 4/13 @ 10am
Once everything is validated and real I will update this post.

Damn! Free 50" tv with lg g8

Going today to upgrade to the LG g8, hope it's valid here in South Carolina...

Got myself a G8 and I can't find this promo anywhere. I am going to look into it as well.

Talked to TForce on Twitter and the response was this. TMO did partner with LG for a TV promo. The catch is it's only available to the first 130 customers per signature store only and you have to purchase the device on site so if you already have the device like I have you would have to return it and drive to one of the stores and purchase it again for me that's not going to happen I would have to return the device pay the restocking fee take the day off of work and drive two and a half hours to a signature store. Hopefully some of you have better success than I did

Make sure the store you go to is a Signature Store. And from what my Tmobile Saleman said is that there are only 6 in the United States.

Got the deal! Went to my appt today @ 10am pst and my rep did everything! Just gave my I.D. and paid the Tax and SIM Card Kit.
In my store I was #4 of 130!!

Just wanted to say thanks for posting this deal, Double0EK. I just so happened to be a little research on the G8 and found your post. I was pretty much the last customer at the SF signature store and I was only #4 myself. Feel bad for LG, hope they don't fail because competition is great for us consumers.
Wanted to add that it's crazy, even knowing this deal is valid, doing a Google search provided no real information on this deal. It's like they didn't want to promote this offer.
Enjoying the G8 a lot over the G7 (which I returned because of the 4GB ram and bad camera).

I got my acceptance confirmation the other day. Just waiting for the delivery which can take upto 4 weeks.
So far, with the 3 LG phones I've purchased, I've gotten really good promotions. My V10 O got a spare battery and charger along with a 200GB Micro SD Card. With the LG G5 I also got 2 spare batteries and charger along with a 360 camera. Now with the G8 I get a free 50inch LED Smart TV.
Gotta love the promos LG hands out!

Sorry for the late response, this was a launch promotion Tmo & LG did. It was only available at a Tmobile Signature Store which there's only 6 if them throughout the United States.
