[Q] SLOW MOTION! 1/2 (60fps) 1/4 (120fps) 1/8 (240fps) - Galaxy S 4 Active Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, I am a proud owner of a rooted Samsung Galaxy S4 Active. And I bought it because I am a very outdoor guy and I skate, mountain bike and what not. The main reasons why I bought my device is because it's rugged. Unfortunately when I bought it, I was informed that it would support the slow motion capabilities of the original flaship device (Samsung Galaxy S4) Which is around 1/2 , 1/4 and 1/8 of the video speed.
Well my s4 active didn't support this feature and I was devastated. But upon searching about it, I knew that s4 active had the same exact 8 megapixel shooter as of the note 2 and s3. There were threads suggesting that the slow motion capabilities of note 2. (Yes, note 2 supports slow motion 1/2 1/4 and 1/8) can be ported to s3. And I've seen people do this and it supports the slow motion capabilities smoothly after the port. :fingers-crossed:
Since S4 Active has the same camera as of s3 and note 2, I ported that camera2.apk of note 2 to my s4 active see if the slow motion could work as well. It did run, and although the screen resolution was different and the camera app displayed a smaller application display than normal, it did function. However the slow motion was bad. really bad compared to those of ported to s3 from note 2. I came to a conclusion that the bit rate of video. was weak on my phone. In case of hardware and software, the s4 active is way superior of that of s3 and I believe that the slow motion feature can be really ported to s4 active somehow. First in order to do that, we have to increase the bit rate of the s4 active's video to 30mbit/s as of that of note 2. It was similarly done to s3 and this is why it supported the slow motion. I don't know how to increase the mbit/s of the device. But there are multiple ways that people do. Many mods are there are for s3 which improves it's bit rate.
If there's a developer who could help out in porting slow motion from either note 3, ported s3 or even s4 to say the least, please please help? It would be really amazing if we could get slow motion for the s4 active. :highfive:

Ugh, I'm willing to pay a certain amount for someone who could solve this! I need this so bad.

I'm thinking that no 1 care about this phone, especially Samsung.
So I will sell my S4 or swap it to Nexus 5.

The only thing I can suggest, check the play store....there are a bunch of apps for slow motion. Unfortunately, unless the bootloader gets unlocked, there's not much you can do.

The only thing is that the S4 Active internetonal version got bootloader unlocked, so that should be easy. (I thinkso)

I've actually checked with a lot of apk's but no avail. Couldnt find a decent slow motion app. Do you know any?

i will recommend u to buy S2.
nut also see the user rewiews abt each phone.
they might help u a lot
Galaxy S2. Why?
Galaxy S2 has a Faster CPU
Dual Core Exynos 1.2ghz is A LOT faster than Dual Core 1.2ghz TI OMAP 4460
Galaxy S2 has a Faster GPU
Not only the Galaxy Nexus has a slower/older GPU, but it is a slower GPU on a device with a lot more pixels. Bad combo. Expect noticeable difference on any moderate GPU intensive app. People are saying how the Galaxy Nexus runs graphic tests slowly because it is not optimized. This is true. Keep in mind that pretty much the Galaxy Nexus is the only phone with 1280 x 720 resolution right now, and the apps, to get the full potential of the screen will have to be optimized. Realistically all apps will not be optimized at first for the Galaxy Nexus. And slowly they might become optimized. And some may never be optimized because it is up to the developer. Also, after optimization, remember it has more pixels to process with slower hardware than the Galaxy S2.
Galaxy S2 has a better rear Camera
8MP > 5MP
Sure it is not all about megapixels, but did anyone say 8MP on the S2 was bad? Not at all, it is fantastic. 5MP sensor on the Galaxy Nexus might be a great sensor but it is a downgrade in image quality from the 8MP galaxy S2 sensor. I'm sure the Galaxy Nexus 5MP sensor is better than a lot of other 8MP sensors out there though.
Galaxy S2 has a better front facing camera
From my personal experience 1.3MP front facing cameras on the older Samsung Galaxy S has been one of the most unimpressive cameras I've ever encountered. Galaxy Nexus is most likely using the same 1.3MP camera. I can say that the Galaxy S2 front facing camera is a lot better than the older Galaxy S front facing camera by using the mirror feature on the OS.
Galaxy S2 has Super AMOLED Plus (Better than Super AMOLED (Pentile) on the Galaxy Nexus)
Might be less important because of pixel density, but take it from a user who has used a Galaxy U (a Galaxy S with a higher pixel density because of the smaller 3.7" screen...~252 PPI) and used it for a whole year. You would think with a higher pixel density like that you can't see the checkerboard pattern? Wrong, it is visible. Clearly visible when white lines are visible on the black background. Are there white lines common on black background on android devices? Duh! But you'll get used to it like you get used to scratches on your glasses. Maybe ICS will mask the ugliness with the blue glow.
Galaxy S2 has microSDHC (comfirmed to be compatible with microSDXC) slot while Galaxy Nexus has none.
So right now, you can put an additional 64GB card on the Galaxy S2 on top of the 16GB. The Galaxy Nexus will be locked to 16 or 32GB. Galaxy S2 might one day support up to 2TB, but more realistically, people will be carrying 128GB and 256GB cards during the lifecycle of the Galaxy S2 device.
Galaxy S2 has been announced to get Ice Cream Sandwich Android OS 4.0 update.
Sure if you get the Galaxy Nexus, you can have ICS for 6 months maybe. But is it worth the sacrifice of hardware? Software you can upgrade. Hardware cannot be changed.
Galaxy S2 has native DviX/XviD/MKV support. On Galaxy Nexus you will need to do software decoding which is much slower. A lot of times the HD videos are too slow for watching videos.
The Galaxy Nexus will be able to play 1080p h264 files, but it will certainly not be able to play any 1080p mkv or divxes like the Galaxy S2.
Advantages of Galaxy Nexus
Galaxy Nexus has a bigger screen. I hear it is awesome by all accounts.
Galaxy Nexus has a much higher resolution
I bet people are drooling with the thoughts of watching 720p videos natively on the device. But they are forgetting that it has to be encoded in h264. So basically you have to shoot the video yourself, or encode it yourself because 720p h264 is not as popular of a format than 720p and 1080p mkv files that Galaxy Nexus doesn't support. This will be a serious letdown for many thinking they can just download any HD content and watch it on their device.
Galaxy Nexus has a lag free camera
A lot of people are speculating ICS 4.0 will bring a lag free/near lag free camera to a lot of devices. So this may be only a short lived advantage, just like ICS being a reason to buy a Galaxy Nexus.

S3 doesn't need any development in my opinion
SGII will keep getting plenty of attention, just compare XDA activity for something like HTC Amaze or Motorola Atrix.

Russian Galaxy Note 4 Exynos review online

First real review is now online, use google translates to translate the page. Seems okay, the camera is maybe a notch better than the S5's in daylight, definitely in the dark its much better over the S5. Not sure about the OIS, I would like to see the LG G3 4k Vs the Note 4's, I have a feeling the 2nd gen OIS on the G3 will be slightly better than Samsung's first OIS camera.
The review:
http://mobile-review.com/review/samsung-galaxy-note4.shtml

The Note 4 camera is much better than on the S5 - it's very obvious when you look at the high-res photos, but even just the bloom on the S5 in the night shots is gone with the Note 4.
OIS looks amazing too!
What I thought was really interesting is the side-by-side comparision of the screen on the Note 3 vs the Note 4 - that quad HD is noticeably better in the closeup.
I can't see any difference in the day shots but it is definitely better in low light. I really want to see how the note compares to the iphone 6 and 6 plus. It is also nice to see the note kicking the iphone's butt on the geekbench scores.

The S5 has very "muddy"details and the Note 4 looks much cleaner with more detail. Look at 100% and you'llyou'll see it no problem.
The review also mentions that there is no delay in the night shot on the Note 4 when it has to apply the noise reduction pass. I'd imagine the OIS helps the Note 4 too.
If the Note 4 is as nice as the Samsung Alpha it will be well worth the wait

Seems the one error in the review is stating the chipset is 20nm. The 805 is still 28nm, but some of the cellular tech is now 20nm.
Unless this review is for the Ex chip. I do not know the fab size for that.

Note 4 Exynos Review
Another Russian review is up for Samsung SM-N910C Exynos variant from HI-TECH.MAIL. What I gathered through google translate is: 1) Best Screen 2) Excellent camera , Sony module with Samsung Isocell technology (!?) 3) Exynos supports LTE-A CAT6 4) Battery same or a little bit worse than Note 3 5) Speaker a little bit better the Iphone 6 ,Note 3 but nothing spectacular here, 6) Strong CPU performance better than SD 805 but GPU is worse than Adreno 420 at least on Manhattan+T-REX gpu tests/scores, no heat problems even in demanding situations

I read that review, but I think we have to wait for more batterylife tests. They did the test with full brightness which is higher compared to GN3. This same site also mentioned that Galaxy Alpha did 11hrs of video playback in their tests, which I never found anywhere else. Also their benchmark number for GFXbench was quite different from other result we saw. Maybe just a firmware issue or improper results.

When she placed the Note 4 next to her face, I was like "Whoa! Big Phone!"
Then a sec later another thought followed up, "Hm... must be a petite lady!"
I owned a Note 3, so I'm aware of its size
Looks like Note 4 can display better white vs Note 3 from that first Russian review. And zoomed-in text still looked sharp when Note 3 was looking pixelated. Can't wait!

Why do you prefer Samsung Galaxy Note series?

Samsung has sold over 60 million Galaxy Note devices over the past three years.
What is the main reason why you prefer the Galaxy Note? Please vote and leave comments.
It's my first Note. When I saw the first Note I was like "Hell no, that phone is way too big" I thought my s3 was big enough. Flash forward 3 years after going from a 5.2" s5 to a 5.5" LG G3 and then the 5.5 yet slightly bigger OnePlus one the 5.7" Note 4 wasn't much of a stretch. I was contemplating the Nexus 6 but I felt that in terms of Phablet the Note 4 had so much more to offer for an extra 100$. So far I do have a couple of gripes but they're all software related therefore fixable. I was going to keep it as my backup device but after finding out all it can do I had a change of heart and decided to keep it as my daily driver. Note 4 FTW :good:
Went from Note 2 to Note 3, then OnePlus One, now the Note 4. OnePlus is a fine phone, especially for the price, but once you've integrated the s-pen into your daily life it's hard to go back. Every other "phablet" is a big phone and nothing more. The Note series delivers a lot of extra functionality that sets it apart and makes it more than just a big phone.
I only can choose 1 reason, but actually I've got more than 1 :
1. I like the design
2. I like the big screen & S pen
3. It came out in second half of the year, so it will get fastest update rather than other samsung phones, or it will get latest if google released the new android faster than usual
(Samsung is #1 choices in my city, great availability, great service center, and so on)
4. It has latest SoC, best specs on sheet
5. I have try them in SES in my city, and I can use a lot of its features
i have loved the first note and it only made sense to me to upgrade every year with the note series ( would have broken it with then note 4 if the edge was available lol)

iR¡[email protected]!* from i9505 via Tapatalk 4
Multitasking.
Great screens.
S-Pen (more with Note 4 than Note 3 tbh).
Design and quality feel (more so with the Note 4 than the Note 3).
Build quality.
Camera.
Loved my Note 2, and when sprint decided to release the Note 3 non sparked i had to go elsewhere (principalities) but I'm so happy to be back in the Note family. I actually don't use the spen as much as i should but this phone is so much more then that for me. A quality device with excellent specs! And works great with my Tab S!

Note 1 - initially for screen size and performance
Note 2 - for the stylus note taking plus other Note features
Note 10.1 - Business functions with multi Windows and Note taking
Note 8 - wanted more portable Note 10 and better speed
Note 3 - really good stylus functions and multi windows. Also Wolfson sound card.
Note 10.1 2014 - replacement for my Note 10.1
Note 4 - looking to replace my Note 10.1 2014 but did not work out so looking forward to the 10.1 2015 device. Really like power and using Knox for business security

Doesn't Note 8 have the same CPU&GPU as Note 10.1?
Anyway, my Note 10.1 is very fast. The problem with it was Samsung for some reason released it with buggy firmware and all reviewers put into their reviews that it lags like hell - while the first update fix that problem altogether, the reviews stayed.
PS. And of course you have to keep some GBs free on the sdcard because otherwise it will slow down considerably. It is a known issue of most mobile devices caused by poor flash memory, I hope we will see SSDs in tablets soon.

They're all great products if exploited properly
I chose Top Performance and Multitasking e.g. the smoothness and speed of UI, 3GB RAM, Snapdragon 805 and incredible battery performance.
But I must admit, the disappointing Galaxy S5, the metal frame of Note 4 , its jaw dropping 5.7inch display and the fact Samsung made its Note series its premium range, all had me wanting this beast to
The awesome screen is the primary reason. I liked the firm factor of my prior LG G3 better BUT not the display.
.Note 4 is much better from my experience. Also tried the IP6 Plus for 2 weeks but my sidebyside comparison for a few days says the N4 is much better screen...especially for reading Kindle books / magazines.

Well I can't single out one reason. I love the size of the screen with its great display, great performance, and the SPen! Hard to single anything out. Compared to the other phones of this caliber I'd say the SPen helped to stick out. Plus I'm not a fan of Droids, iPhones and LG phones for various reasons.
Sadly, I think the multitasking is just not as good as it should be w/o root. It only supports a few apps, so that's out! :/
All I need for it to be perfect is root :good: okay, and maybe waterproofing and 64-bit processor but really that's just being spoiled

Nexus 6 Camera Vs Galaxy S4?

I couldn't find a comparison between the S4 and N6 camera. Does anyone know how the two compare? I currently have the Galaxy S4 and was wondering if the Camera on the N6 is superior or rather the same.
S4 just by having better software. But the nexus take better pictures than the note 3 . I felt the s4 camera was night and day versus the note 3. Nexus camera is really good the s4 was great. But I haven't had the s4 since it was released so I I'm not sure how good it is now but back then I loved it. For some reason hdr on the nexus looks fantastic so for me if they just add more options in that camera app then it would be on par with the note 4. The stock app just seems dated.
Has anyone else used both phones? Id like to get several opinions
I've used both phones. The S4 camera looks like a VGA compared to the Nexus 6. Its also super slow, I can't stand using the S4's camera. I had one sitting in my bookshelf for s few weeks while I was selling it in eBay and I was not impressed with the S4 and its camera. The Note 3 took better pictures, but the Nexus is still better run my opinion.

Sports shot and dual camera modes?

Does anyone have working apks for these? I was able to install the most recent updates from apk mirror but they don't show in my camera modes or edit camera modes. Does anyone know if these are being worked on?
I want dual mode too...

Not just that, it's much more disappointing that they actually decided on going with a *lower* resolution sensor than that of the Note 4 (of all).
I would never have expected that years along the line, camera quality for the Samsung Note range would go down, instead of up. Especially not in the steps from Note 4 towards Note 9.
But it did, and they're not even sorry, it seems.
We need a heavily amped up camera mod, with 100% jpeg and such. I'll try what I can do myself.
