BUGS
Bugs Reported in 4.1.2 version: 2.254
Problem: Stock notification is not working with Stamina mode on
Cause: Firmware bug I suspect. Could also be a feature I'm not sure.
Solution 1: Turn off Stamina mode
Solution 2: Download Illumination Bar (Free/Pro). In General settings choose for Xperia U/J and add this application to the whitelist of stamina mode.
Problem:Screen does not turn on properly (stays completely black)
Cause: - Unknown -
Solution: Turn off screen again and turn it on. Your screen should turn on normaly.
Problem: Camera got a yellow tint when shooting pictures in dark with flash
Cause: Bad camera settings and (perhaps) bad software from Sony
Solution 1: Download this Galaxy S4 Google Edition Camera the pictures are a bit better.
Solution 2: In Stock Camera; Put camera in Normal and not Superior and go for Daylight setting in Whitebalance settings
Problem: Bad Wifi reception
Cause: - Unknown - (However some will say software and other will say hardware I believe that this is a software issue from not only the Xperia SP but also from the Router where it gets its connection)
Solution 1: [Fix] Another Wifi Fix
Solution 2: [Fix, tips] How to fix wifi issues (router settings)
Solution 3: [Fix] Wifi Fix
Solution 4: Go to another ROM. Accorrding to stories is the wifi much better in CyanogenMOD
Problem: Music stops/crashes when Google Chrome is opened
Cause: Google Chrome is a very very heavy Internet Brower and uses a lot of RAM (it stays cached and reserves 60MB minimal)
Solition:Disable Google Chrome and get another Internet Browser example: FireFox, Opera Mini, Dolphin
Problem: Phone reboots when benchmarking with AnTuTu
Cause: - Unknown -
Solution 1: Try to update the app and your phone to the latest version
Solution 2: Create a logcat/dmesg and contact AnTuTuLabs (See Android Development > Apps and Games )
Problem: BE2 not working in Album
Cause: - Unknown -
Solition: - none at the moment -
Problem: Weird volumebar
Cause: - Unknown -
Solition: A reflash should help but you can also try this: Fix?
Problem: No Recent added in Walkman
Cause: Not known however it could be a feature that has been removed by Sony
Solition: Use another musicplayer
Problem: No Free RAM
Cause: - Unknown -
Solition: Reboot device or reflash with Sony Update Center
Problem: LED are not proper functioning in Walkman
Cause: - Unknown -
Solition: Decrease the volume you will see that the LEDs will be blinking a bit better
TIPS
Tip 1: Do not use Google Chrome as a browser. Reason for this is that the brosers caches a lot. I discoverd that after 1 small browser session of my school table the cache of the app has grown to 75 MB Also is Chrome a heavy one and will close a lot of process you had running in the background
Tip 2: Backup data from Whatsapp also to your external SD card. It happend to me once that after a Factory reset the Internal SD has been wiped (could also be my fault :silly: )
Tip 3: If you have your device rooted make it Adfree via AdAway (can be downloaded via F-Droid and via XDA)
Tip 4: Turn on Wifi on location; it works perfect. It will connect to saved Wifi networks when they are in the area. It will also turn Wifi off when you're out of range so that you save a bit of juice
Tip 5: Download an FileExplorer. The Sony Xperia SP has none pre-installed.. Some you can install: ES File Explorer, OI FileBrowser and RootBrowser (can also be used without Root!)
Tip 6: Our device has a Camera Button. Use it. Small press will focus it and press a bit harder to take the picture
Tip 7: Our device has not a small app for flashlight pre-installed. So install it via Google Play: Flashlight Small App
Tip 8: To stop the flashing lights within the walkman app; open the app > upper right coner > Settings > Musicledpulse > Remove the V and done.
Tip 9: If you do have musicledpulse lights on you can keep them on while screen is of. All you need to have are some high reflexes :silly:.
Open the app and start any music. Close the app via the HOME and reopen it, immediately close the app with HOME and if you are fast enough (and a bit lucky) you will close the walkman app but the lights keep on flashing. Even when you turn the screen on. (you can stop this by open and close the walkman app )
Tip 10: If you encounter any annoying issues after installing a stock or custom rom and you wanted to keep your data intact perform a factory reset or reflash the rom. Yes you will loose data but you will solve these issues
Tip 11: In 4.3 you are not able to make screenshots by pressing the powerbutton and choose screenshot. You need to hold the power and volume down together for a few seconds.
OTHER INTEL
Sony has set the values of RAM management. These values are set in a way that the system runs smootlhy how ever when having music on with the walkman app and by accident opening Chrome your music stops. This is due to the LMK of android. LMK stands for Low Memory Killer; when the system has not enough RAM to operate properly it will clear the RAM and kills a lot of procceses.
Starting up a heavy application like Dead Trigger, Modern Combat etc it will use a large ammount of RAM and when it does not get enough it will lag.
Here are some small tips to help you play as smooth as possible:
Reboot your device; this will reset the RAM and only bootup the apps that are needed
Use the app Fast Reboot; this app clears the RAM and tries to make room for you
Close all the apps; dont press the home button but the back button. This will close the app after you
There are some applications and perhaps Xposed Framework settings that can aid here but these need root! Read properly!!
Android updates.
As you all may know by now we get 4.3 in a few days and we can expect 4.4 next year (in the future) See also this link http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/software/phones/xperia-sp/
Update has been released om 13-02-2014

HOW TO
HOW TO INSTALL FASTBOOT AND FLASHTOOL DRIVERS ON WINDOWS 8.1?
So Windows 8(.1) has a small issue when you try to install flashtools proper drivers. To have flashtool working properly you need to download and install the drivers of flashmode and fastboot. However the security of Windows 8 prevents you from installing not-proper-signed drivers. To do this you have to turn the signature check off for a while here is how:
With the cursor go to the upper right corner to open the side menu
Go to Settings
Choose PC Settings
Go to Update and Recovery
Select Recovery
Choose Advance Reboot
Reboot Computer/laptop
Go to Troubleshoot
Go to Advanced Settings
Reboot again
Press F7
Reboot and done
This will turn off Signature check of Windows (until you reboot again) so that you can install the drivers without issues
HOW TO INSTALL CUSTOM ROMS
Small reminder: these instructions are the common one. If you want to install any custom ROM read the instructions made by the developer!
Download ZIP files needed
Put these ZIP files on your internal SD card
Reboot your device into recovery mode
Scroll to Wipe /data /cache Factory reset
Select it and press powerbutton, scroll to YES and press powerbutton again
Go to advanced
Select Wipe Dalvik-Cache press powerbutton and select YES
Go back and select Install ZIP from SD card
Scroll to the downloaded ZIP and press the power button
Go to YES and press the powerbutton
After installation reboot device and enjoy

Well that is strange. Mine did not have one and I had to download another one. I will update that part. I could be a firmware thing that some have a filebrowser and others don't

The problem of the screen is referred and present only in stock ROM or also in the cooked one? There is a solution or not?
Thanks!

[DIY] Making The Most Of A Locked Bootloader [LT30p]

I was going to make a ROM for y’all but my kitchens a mess and the cookers not working
I would have called it something like XTassy
THIS IS NOT A GUIDE
Its a record of the changes that I have made to a perfectly good ROM.... So that it better suits my needs.
Everything here has the potential to break your phone and make it smell like fish.
If this happens you should PM me immediately so I can laugh at you
I'm always interested to know if there's a better way of doing something
and perhaps you might find something here that's useful to you
My Model: Xperia T - LT30P
Bootloader: Locked (Theres no reason why this stuff shouldn't work on an unlocked bootloader)
Carrier: Three (Yea they did it.... Gits)

The Core
My stock rom was non-updateable, overheated, and I was able to kill a full battery in less than 3 hours.
I did an antutu stability test and it was all over the shop.
After trying out loads of stock and custom roms the one that had the highest benchmark
and was the most stable for me (according to antutu) was TiMiN8R's XperimenT
What I like about TiMiN8R's Rom? XperimenT 3.1.1
. Phone no longer overheats
. Battery Life has improved
. Its pre rooted
. Installs ClockWorkMod
. Has smaller on screen buttons (the black bar at the bottom)
. Comes with a file manager (why no stock roms have this?)
. He’s changed the menu background and it works for me
. Has a better battery icon with percentage
. Has a reboot option when powering down (ohhh that’s bliss)
. Has the older google maps with a blue arrow launcher for navigation (I really missed that! but can be updated according to preference)
. Has some fancy customizable toggles on the notification bar
Antutu Benchmark v4.0.1 score was 16892 Without an SD Card
That’s a massive portion of the hard work done. Cant thank him (and all persons involved) enough for making my phone usable. :good:
Before flashing the ROM I backed up my apps to my internal storage with Android Assistant
Pebble Dash Removal
My goal here is to rip out everything I can. My old phones Rom (x10 mini pro)
was 100mb in size, with all my apps installed and it did everything I wanted it to.
The way I see it... everything past 100mb must be battery draining, spyware, adverts and pebble dash.
Apologies to the the people that put time and effort into the apps I just called pebble dash

TiMiN8R has already removed a fair amount of bloatware from this rom. But as hes made it available for the majority im sure he didn’t want to remove apps that people might want.
Note! I will be removing the default keyboard and home screen (as far as I can tell it doesn’t have landscape mode)
If you decide to do this YOU MUST FIRST INSTALL REPLACEMENTS. I use the keyboard from gingerbread
& Launcher Pro as my home-screen. (Go Launcher seems popular but iv never tried it)
Ill also be removing all themes and lots of things you might miss... like the walkman, nfc, bluetooth, backup software.
Be aware that removing an application will affect others that depend on it... for example removing “live wallpaper picker”
will make ALL live wallpapers unuseable and you wont be able to use any live wallpapers that you get from the play store in future.
To do this I used root uninstaller
The safest way to do this is to enter ClockWorkMod by pressing the volume down but 2 or 3 times when you first turn your phone on and make a back up (of your entire setup) remove a few applications at a time... check everything still works. And repeat the process. If something goes wrong.... do a restore and start over. Its not advised to try and uninstall them all in one go
Current total of installed APK's 223 afterwards 126
<----- data use before and after
Here’s the list of apks that I was able to remove from this rom without errors or crashes (after a reboot)
in the order they appear in root uninstaller

I couldn’t find a list like this for the Xperia T
It took me a hell of a long time to test the removals and reboot over and over as well as typing it up.
So please don’t copy and paste it elsewhere. The next two lines are for googlers
Xperia T bloatware removal lt30p
Xperia T safe to remove list lt30p (safe if you understand what your doing)
Step 2
After removing all those apks I use a file browser to navigate to
/ > system > framework
and remove any .jar files that relate to the apks that I just uninstalled
like Bluetooth, NFC, Facebook, Music, Music Visualizer ect.ect.
Then I go to my settings and change the ringtone to PYXIS
This is the only pre installed ringtone I want to keep
Its no good dropping beats in a room full of suits so I use this tone when im at work to keep things professional
Then I go to / > system > media > audio > ringtones and delete all but pyixs
and paste my own .ogg ringtones (ill attach some of the ringtones I made to post 8)
I do the same for alarms and notifications
first set the ones that I use then delete the rest and paste my own
/ > system > media > audio >alarms
/ > system > media > audio >notifications
I don't like to use ringtones from sd card/storage locations because if I were to accidentally delete them maybe my alarm wont go off in the morning Not a risk I wanna take lol
why I removed the lockscreen and all themes / theme manager?
I removed every single theme & theme manager
so now instead of my phone looking like this
it looks like this!
iv made a dreadful mistake :crying:
I also removed the lock screen 1.0 app which reverted the lock screen to basic jb
lets add a wallpaper
and change it to pin
Much better! (settings > security > screen lock > pin)
Dont panic the music widget still works
I also like to add: If Found Please Call - 07MYMUMMY505
To the lock screen Found in settings > security > owner info
(you have to enter the pin when connecting the phone to a usb cable)
One thing I miss from cyanogen mod was "skip on security" meaning you don't have to press ok when you enter the correct pin. id also like to remove the grey and maybe make it more transparent (Dam locked bootloader) that's something ill have to come back to tho (think it would involve decompileing the system UI)
Silent Camera Hack
Be aware this may be illegal where you live and Don't go using it for "up skirts"
I don't like my camera to make a noise, with some snaps its best to be discreet..... after all this is the James bond phone
This phone was surprisingly easy to mute my other Xperias were a pain in the backside
/ > system > media > audio > camera > sound0
there's a file there called no_sound.m4a (how convenient)
I copied this and pasted it 3 times into this location / > system > media > audio > camera > sound1
Then Deleted: shutter.m4a , start_rec.m4a & stop_rec.m4a
and renamed the 3 no_sound.m4a files to shutter.m4a , start_rec.m4a & stop_rec.m4a
the same can be done with the files in / > system > media > audio > camera > common
(or see attached files)
Advert Removal
I cant stand adverts especially the ones that take up half the screen.
for the last 3-4 years iv been using an app called AdFree by Bigtincan
Its awesome just set it up and forget about it. no More annoying flashing google ads taking up half the screen
Unfortunately it keeps getting banned from the google play store (cant think why )
Here is their homepage http://www.bigtincan.com/en/
Here is their download page http://www.bigtincan.com/adfree/ (that no longer works)
And attached to this post is a little bit of love in the form of an apk
Select > Boot Normally > Skip Registration > Download & Install Hosts
If you use launcher pro you can hide the app from the app drawer
If you use the FireFox web browser there's an add-on called Adblock plus (also a version for the desktop firefox) that removes all adverts from all webpages including youtube videos (you know the ones that make you watch adverts about tampons for 15 seconds)
<<<< [BEFORE] [SETTINGS] [AFTER]
Security
Have you ever read some of the permissions that apps request when you install them?
Why the hell random apps want to read my text messages and contacts I don't know
Iv tried changing permissions and it just caused problems.... so heres what I do
I install this app Android Firewall
and I white list the apps that I want to be able to access the internet
(make sure you enable the firewall as well)

I don't use any kind of anti virus software for these reasons:
Android is based on Linux
I have an arsenal of hacking software they complain about every 5 minuets
They send reports of whats on your phone for "analysis"
Apps I Use And recommend
Seen as this thread was titled Making The Most Of A Locked Bootloader ill start with a big one
Cpu Manager and Saver Pro
It limits the cpu when when your not using the phone (when the screen is off) and restores it when you are using it (when the screen is on)
Iv only found out about it recently but it seems to be working as it should. We have 1.5gz CPU so we don't need to overclock.
But underclocking! Anything we can do to save the battery is a god send :victory:
Launcher Pro (cannot resize widgets with free version)
I keep banging on about it... this is the home screen I use.
I cant really show you it coz.... you cant see it... its more how it works and what it dose
Landscape Mode
Massively customizable
Can easily hide / show apps from the app drawer
App-drawer scrolls parallel (in one slide rather than separate panels)
Has Counters for Missed Calls,Emails,Texts
182,430+ 5 Star ratings
Well worth checking out.
Digitally Imported - Internet Radio
www.di.fm is the homepage for my laptop (they recently updated it looks mint)
Been listening to di.fm for a good 8 years, my fav channel is progressive and there's many more
Need to make an account to use the app but its free
Jota Text Editor
Simple .txt editor, love the dark background
Gingerbread keyboard
From Android 2.3
after installing go to > settings > language and input > and set as default
I Like to disable word suggestions, dictionary, and auto correct
I cant get on with any other keyboard.... very happy to get this back

The reason I like this one over all others is because there's an option to have the light come on when the app is opened
This is super useful when remapping buttons to launch the light on a long press
I have an unlocked bootloader, so this guide isn't necessary for me. But, if I didn't, I would find this a Godsend. You are awesome sir, great work.
Some Ringtones I Made
I made these with acid pro
Iv converted them from stereo mp3 to mono ogg (Default ringtones were in ogg format I assume there's a reason for it)
and tweaked the volume to as loud as I could without it distorting (on my phone)
It only takes me 2 minuets to do this so im more than happy to do requests and id be interested in what you think would make a good ringtone.
Chaos Theory.ogg Ringtone (by conspiracy)
Tone starts at 2.34 in this vid
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PRbA9ltKX4
Blue Anthem.ogg Ringtone (by plus system)
Tone starts at about 33 seconds into this vid
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwDGUuUn888
Things Im Currently Working On / Would Like To Change
I want to stop the volume keys from changing the Ringtone volume (I want that on max all the time)
and remap them to open apps on long press (calculator and torch)
Without affecting media volume functions
change the pin lock screen to skip on security
meaning you don't have to press ok when you enter the correct pin
while I was testing roms I found a cyanogen mod variant by peetr that worked with my locked bootloader
ill paste the link here when i find it >>>>>>>>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2240485&highlight=hybrid
id like to pinch the dialer, messenger, calculator and contacts apks from it but.... im not sure if it would be that simple and haven't the time right now
Throbin Wood said:
One thing I miss from cyanogen mod was "skip on security" meaning you don't have to press ok when you enter the correct pin. id also like to remove the grey and maybe make it more transparent (Dam locked bootloader) that's something ill have to come back to tho (think it would involve decompileing the system UI)

This can be achieved with some theming as you suggest, and does not require an unlocked bootloader.

When the screen is off your phone should automatically go into "deep sleep" which has the minimum cpu setting already applied so need to use this for that.
When your phone is on it is safe to have the cpu at stock speeds. However, if you do need to conserve battery (As I sometimes do when away on expedition) I do lower clock speeds but I am not sure this can be done without a custom kernel.
It definitely cannot be done to overclock without the unlocked bootloader, but I am still unsure if you can under clock without it. The app may report its set, but you need setcpu (Or some other app) to check which frequencies your phone has been running at. It may work, but I have never tried it with a stock kernel.
Nice thread mate, and thanks for the creds :good:
Maybe not a real guide (yet) but definitely some great pointers for other users looking to modify their ROM.
Too bad you can't get the kitchen set up right, there's probably some people around here who'd like to see it as a full-on ROM.
Like the name XTassy!
@gregbradley I tried CU Saver and kept an eye on the clocks with CPU Spy. Maxed the clock at 1242MHz and according to CPU Spy it never went over so seems to work well. Mind you, it also works with screen on, not just screen off!
Cheers for testing that, was it done on a stock kernel though

Yes stock kernel, locked bootloader.

I even changed active CPU Governor with No-frills CPU on stock fw.
Anyone know of some working performance tweaks like this? Any governor better than stock? Any magic script boosting Android like (in) famous Supercharger etc? That's kind of the modifications most users with locked bootloader will surely find interesting.
I didnt know people had replied! Guess I didnt subscribe to the thread lol. ill ad more to this tonight. Iv had a little bug (i think with cpu saver) screen would turn itself off right after wake up it did it over and over till i rebooted. But hasnt happend since. Other than that underclock seems to work fine

• Battery Life Test •
------------------
-These tests depends on my own usage ,so it may differ depends on everyone's usage-
• Average Usage •
it lasts for 1 Day and 13 Hours with average usage
~4:30 Hrs Talk Time
~23 Hrs Wi-Fi On
~3 Hrs Screen On (Chatting ,Browsing and downloading)
• Heavy Usage •
it lasts for 10 Hours with continuous heavy usage on medium brightness with the auto enabled
~5 Hrs Screen On (Chatting and Browsing)
~8 Hrs Wi-Fi On (using it even when the screen is off)

• Bugs/Annoyances •
--------------------
• 500 Millisecond delay between each shot using 9+ Megapixel
• When launching Camera via shutter button ,it plays a start up sound and no option to disable it
• Burst Mode is slower than the previous 4.2.2 (due to the lack of resolution option for the burst mode)
• When installing APK , the title of the app is in a wrong alignment - Screenshot
• Final Words •
-------------
The 4.2.2 is a little stable than the newer one (till now)
but still the 4.3 Update is Recommended !
it brings a lot of new settings with the newest Sony Interface ,and i hope that Sony brings a fix for those annoying things in 4.3
but after all.. it's GREAT !
Thanks for the great review!!
Just want to add my view on the camera after a quick test. Regarding the resolution change, it is still available, but only under the "Manual" mode and any change only applies to the Manual mode too. IMO I really don't like the new updated camera, the Superior auto mode just seems less superior to me.
By default, it uses 9M (16:9) resolution. For my usage, I always save images to external SD card, With resolution set at 9M, there is little over half second delay (even the screen freezes up) before you can take the next shot. If change to 5M in manual mode, there is virtually no delay at all. I tried to switch saving to internal memory and it's not any better either. Compare to the previous 2.67 rom, even during saving picture taken at 9M resolution, the screen does not freeze up and you can still take the next shot right away.
For all the test shots I took, I find Manual mode works better in most cases compared to Auto. One example is when I try focus on a roof through a window, the manual mode (without any scene selection, no HDR) will take a perfectly focused picture (little under exposed due to the lighting). The Superior Auto however, extremely difficult to get a good focus the roof, instead it will focus on the window screen most of the time. I tried to touch different spot and result is more or less the same.
Above are just what I found based on my setting and maybe works better for others. I sure do hope they can come up with a patch to fix some of the small bugs. Oh forgot to mention, when launch the camera using the shutter button, it plays a start up sound just like how typical Sony camera does when turn on the power. I can't find a setting to turn it off.
Any camera improvement with the new software?

Yes I can confirm this as well. Also to the OP, during the incoming call, mine "message to reject" is showing up just fine, I don't have the black menu/nav bar showing at the bottom.

What problem was faced by you?
I've only had my ZR for a week, but I also see the BT problem.
The ZR pairs & connects to my car's hands-free set, but on incoming calls the phone behaves as if it is not connected - the phone rings itself and no audio come through the BT set.
It's definitely connected because if you hit the "Answer call" button on the BT set, it starts the voice-dialing system (which is what would happen if you were not trying to answer a call).
There's several threads on the Sony forums about this,
Sorry - I'm not allowed to paste a link as I don't have enough posts here yet.

Just tried couple of times with phone screen off and the icon still shows up normal. I still don't see that black bar at the bottom like the screen shot you posted.
I did the update via PC companion and it's a US customized version not sure if this is any different. Also, I don't have any gesture or pin lock for the phone. just simple swipe up and down unlock. You can try remove those lock as there might be a glitch caused by those interface?

so it's just matter of time i'm sure

anyway i managed to download both themes & all cam apps from playstore ,except timeshift wich is not workn
I just updated using the companion software (in the US). So far everything works as expected but hate hate HATE the new white themed UI. Also Sony Select is not working for me either

KatKiss ROM
MarshMallow 6.0.1 ReleaseAsus TF701
This rom is an aosp based rom with my own additions on top of it.
The main motto of the rom being Kiss. Even though the Meerkat mascot could give you a kiss, it stands for Keeps it Sweet and Simple
Which means that just like the other K.A.T stuff, the rom's main goal is efficiency, speed/responsiveness,
while not adding bloated features that will slow things down

DOWNLOADS:

Backup everything !

The first time or everytime you have an issue when dirty flashing (Especially when changing android major versions):
[*] do a full wipe, if you have issues make sure that you format /data (format is different than wipe)
Warning: formatting will remove what is stored in your internal storage, so store the rom /gapps/supersu zips onto an external storage (microSD, SD card..) or make sure you know how to push them back through adb.
Note that sometime with TWRP the partition might get corrupted after format, so you might need to format to ext3 then ext4 again, and/or reflash the rom if it fails to flash the 1st time
Then everytime (even when "dirty flashing") do the following steps:
Flash the rom
Flash the SuperSU zip
[*]Flash gapps
Wipe cache/dalvik
Reboot

Tips
First Install
Make sure you do a format /data the first time you install the rom
(backup your internal storage first if you want to keep something)
The first boot after a rom flash can take a few minutes as ART is slower than dalvik to optimize the applications, but is faster after the 1st time.
(First boot takes ~4-5 minutes without gapps and 10+ minutes with gapps)
Also keep in mind that after a fresh install, it might take a bit of time to get up to full speed as media scanner & google are checking/scanning and restoring stuff.
Wallpaper Modes
Different Wallpaper modes have been added in Settings => Display
** Normal (regular android mode)
** Disable System Wallpaper rendering (set as default)
** Disable Wallpaper service
2nd setting will prevent the wallpaper being rendered by the system making things faster and also freeing resources
That's the recommended setting you want to use if you are using a launcher that has internal wallpaper rendering
The Default included Launcher3 has internal rendering
For Nova: Go to its Settings => Desktop => Wallpaper Scrolling => Force, then set a wallpaper.
(You will see a black wallpaper if you're not using a launcher that can do internal rendering, If wallpaper is important and that you want to keep your current launcher, then switch back to the 1st setting)
Graphic artifacts
Video thumbnails shows green for certain type of videos
Bluetooth audio devices
For bluetooth audio devices that have "phone audio" capability you need to uncheck the box in the bluetooth device settings.
Hardware keyboard layouts
More languages have been added in the default asusec keyboard
Set the keyboard layout through Settings => Language & Input => asusec => setup keyboard layouts
These also allow live switching without reboot with ctrl + space
Global Key Override/Shorcut Mecanism
Available in Settings => Dock => Add Key Override Actions
This will allow you not only to redefine function keys assignment, and other special keys actions,
but you'll also be able to assign global macro actions / app launch to any key + Meta key combination (shift Left or Right , ctrl..)
You can also add multiple actions to one key combination, simply click again on the "+" button for the same key combination.
For example if you want to assign to one key combination a list of action to run before going to bed for example, like: turn wifi off, Bluetooth off, mute sound, and turn screen off, you can do that
Note that starting multiple applications with one key is kinda a miss and hit for the moment due to some mecanism in android that seems to prevent applications to start too close to each others.
Multiwindow
Multiwindow allows you to split the screen in 2, 3 or 4 panes
you can switch an app back and forth between multiwindow mode and regular mode while it's running
NavBar:
- To switch between full screen and split View you can use the
NavBar Buttons
The app that currently has the focus (or the latest used app if you're on the Desktop) will be used for the main pane (left and/or top depending on the mode and rotation)
And it will lay the remaining most recently used apps in the rest of the available 1-2-3 panes depending on the icon you click
- If you press a multiwindow icon again when in splitview mode, it'll bring the focused app back to fullscreen mode.
- To swap the 2 latest focused apps location / pane , long press on the
NavBar Button
- To change focus simply Tap on the app or use the
NavBar Button
That button can also be used in non multiwindow mode to switch quickly between the 2 most recent apps.
Global Actions:
Actions to switch the app between fullscreen / splitview 2-3-4 panes and switch between the 2 most recent apps have been added
so you can bind them to a key / key combination with the Global KeyOverride or long press on navbar button too.
Note: Most apps works ok in splitview mode, but some of them might crash or not refresh correctly sometime.
To manually position an app in one of the pane:
For the moment either reorder your apps before clicking on an auto mode icon,
or you can also activate the default Marshmallow Multiwindow mode to get extra icons to positions an app in a specific pane (activate it in developer options )
Then position the apps with the icons from the Recents screen. (default MM recents icons are for 2 or 4 panes)

TF701 version #030b
New rom version available: KatKiss-6.0_TF701T_030b.zip
Let's get this baby rolling
I also got Nougat 7.1 booting but there are still some issues with surfaceflinger crashing, I hope I can fix that at some point too, so that we can move from MM
But for the moment enjoy some Marshmallow
Make sure you read fully the 1st and 2nd post
Especially the install instructions, and what's not working currently.
Also keep in mind that it's still the first version, so things might need a bit of polishing and there's still lots of space for improvements
So far I'd say that it's fully stable and can be used as a daily driver (pending that you don't need one of the currently not working feature of course)
But I've been using it for the past few days with no issues with what I use here.
Note that as mentioned in post #2 there is some kind of graphic artifact / corruption on the google initial setup "enter your login" screen.
I'm not sure what's causing it yet, maybe something with google webview / rom optimizations, it seems to be only localized in that screen, so simply ignore it for moment.
Changelog:
- First TF701T version
- Update to November Marshmallow release

Shouldn't be related to regulatory domain then
Did you format /data before flashing the rom ?
EDIT: okie, found the problem, use version 030b below:

Any chance you can post a changelog for the not working areas of new ROM uploads. Bluetooth & rotate are deal breakers for me right now, but I do fancy keeping an eye on the thread for when you get them sorted.

Ooh, yes, thank you for making the effort to modernise our dying device! I want to try this right now, but I use Bluetooth audio quite often. I am sure you will be able to sort it out. Can't wait to try it.
Just a quick question - what recovery are you using for flashing this ROM? AFAIK the KANG TWRP is the latest one but it has some issues (for me) with wiping caches and sometimes even /system. It can flash a MM ROM no problems, right?

Yes I'm using KANG TWRP,
would be good to have f2fs support at some point, I've added it in katkernel but we'd need the recovery to support it too
should help even further the perfs
About bluetooth I've fixed it .. mostly besides audio
Well it's not the bluetooth that is the issue now but the audio hal crashing after pairing to a device
I only have one speaker to test with though, not sure if it's general to all bt audio devices or not.
But at least now bluetooth HID devices (keyboards..) & tethering are working
Now, this might be a silly question, but what happens when you try to play audio from the TF701T to your Bluetooth speaker? Does it start lagging, crashing, and not playing any sound? Because if so, I think I might know how to fix it.
I have the issue on CM12.1 and I think people have it on other CM-based and perhaps all custom ROMs. I fixed it by connecting my BT speaker to the tablet and then turning off Phone audio from the device's settings in the Bluetooth menu. I have no idea how it works and why it is happening, I just "felt" I should do it (lol), but the moment I turned that off the tablet stopped panicking while connected to a speaker and started playing music through it with no problems whatsoever. Of course, you probably can't use any app that is on the Phone channel, but I've never used it anyway. I could be wrong about this, I'm not a dev at all, but could you be facing the same issue that no one has fixed yet (I believe?)? If not, then I hope you can find a solution to whatever the problem is . Maybe I can even use a BT device for calls.

Really glad I could help! I'm curious, though, what could be causing this strange problem? Something with the ASUS kernel and non-ASUS libs (or whatever it could be, I am a huge layman )? A conflict between hardware and software?
Anyhow, this ROM looks amazing, after you release the next version with fixed autorotation I am going to install this. Starting to backup all my old stuff right now .

once the bt device is registered it tries to route through the audio hal libs , it seems one of the libs cannot handle that type of stream and crashes.
That's the problem with having very old HAL blobs
need to torture them and workaround all they cannot handle.

Features:
Ported the basic features Asus Zenfone 4:
1. TwinApps (the ability to create a second account for some applications: viber, facebook, whatsapp, etc.)
2. The audio wizard with configurations from BORETS ROM Stock Edition for high-quality sound. Features of working with the sound settings wizard: after applying the settings and output, the sound is reset to the standard. The solution is to adjust the sound to your taste, exit, press the volume rocker, turn on / off the mode switch on the street or restart the phone from the volume panel, a quick reboot is enough. Such a procedure, as you understand, must be done after each call in the sound settings wizard. If you configure and do not enter the Audio Setup Wizard, the tuned sound will remain permanently, even after any reboots. This can not be fixed.
3. Slideshow on the lock screen
4. Full support for ZenUI 4 themes that can even change the style of the main settings menu and sound volume panel (depends on the specific theme)
5. Almost completely the style of ZenUI 4
6. Support for double tap to sleep and wake up (on sleep will only work in Asus / ZenUI Launcher)
7. Supporting Asus gestures on the screen off to launch applications
8. The item "Lock screen" has been added to the settings; there you can find the settings of the clock widget, weather animation, launching the camera by double pressing the volume button (only Asus Camera) familiar to BORETS ROM Stock Edition, shortcuts to the lock screen, and also slide show settings
9.The phone part is now almost all from Zenfone 4, that is now you can edit the names of SIM cards, numbers, you can automatically record the conversation, the call history shows which SIM you called, you can put your ringtone on each SIM, rename SIM cards and .d, in general, almost all the familiar features of the drain, well, and added his "branded", known by BORETS ROM Stock Edition, the mode of the network "3G / 4G". It seems that the volume of the conversation increased. It is impossible to disconnect SIM cards programmatically, and I'm not sure that it is possible to implement it. Contacts from the SIM card memory are still not visible
10. Full support for Asus MobileManager
11. Almost all of the integrated software is replaced with Asus, even an engineering menu is available for .12345 + = from the calculator
12. Branded ASUS settings button Recent applications, i.e. 4 options: only the latest applications, screenshot, long-press menu and multi-window mode)
13. Built in Gapps
14. Support Asus Flip Cover 3,Kids mode, Easy Mode, support for OptiFlex technology (you can choose to accelerate the launch of three applications to choose from), support for Page Marker, One-handed mode, Glove mode, Asus Splendid
15. My upgraded kernel with DPI autodetect, phone models, processor models and sensors for ZE551ML / ZX551ML / ZE550ML, so there will be no problems. Also a bunch of governors, I/O, the GPU frequency of 640 MHz (not counting overclocking) is unlocked, disabled the modularity of the processor (that is, each core of the processor is independent, and not two modules of 2 cores), etc. Attention! Without this kernel, many of the functions I have implemented in the firmware will not work, do not change!
16. My mod Asus Launcher with 7 icons in the dock-bar
17. Game Genie Support
18. Other (see for yourself)
How to Install:
1. Require unlocked bootloader
2. Reboot to TWRP and install. If you using Lineage OS then require data partition, if use my BORETS ROM Stock Edition or previous version Zenfone 4 Edition then can dirty install

Changelog:
Changelog BORETS ROM Zenfone 4 Edition
2019.03.26 Final
Numerous corrections of errors in the code that are found, and there were many
I deleted the annoying message that the network is unavailable in case of using one SIM-card. This did not affect the performance of the network, but it seems to some that the SIM card falls off, although this is only logging, which is embedded in cyan-like firmware
Updated some programs to current versions.
I updated the kernel, removed the log entry from there to the data / misc / logd folder, which is why the internal memory gradually decreased.
Fixed: kids mode didn't work
Fixed: Weather app lagged, slowed down, did not determine location
Fixed: some applications did not locate by mobile networks
Fixed: some applications that did not require DRM did not work (Neflix, etc.)
In the Information about the software added a list of those who helped the project (if someone forgot, do not be angry, not from evil)
Other
Conclusion: thanks to everyone who supported the project not only thanks! But everything comes to an end, I bought a new phone, I already studied the insides of ZenUI5 and could transfer some to Zenfone 2, but due to the lack of support lately, I conclude that my firmware is no longer needed and it's time to leave.
2019.01.18
Who have bugs with video playback and record try
2019/01/13
1. In the kernel:
Camera driver from the latest Android 5.0 kernel source for Zenfone Zoom ZX551ML
The kernel now has a modular structure and supports autostart modules.
Now the default governor is Interactive from Google Nexus Player
2. In the system:
Continued porting the phone component from Zenfone 4
I ordered the BORETS ROM settings, dividing into those for which the root is not mandatory and for which it is necessary, making it in passing that the maximum number of settings work without root
Added the colors and transparency of the QS hanel, the QS panel header (white by default) and background notifications on the lock screen to the BORETS ROM settings
Accelerated search of SIM-cards after reboots, now it is almost as fast as on the drain
Removed ffmpeg
Added two tiles to the QS panel: to start the recorder and Asus flashlight (if you use, if not installed, the tile will not appear)
Improved sleep mode
Some stock libraries and binaries, which on LinegeOS 14.1 are taken from runoff 5.0, replaced by stock from 6.0.1
Audio, video codes compiled from almost pure AOSP
Sound config from 6.0.1 a place of all LineageOS 14.1
Many proprietary files, libraries, binaries picked up with Zenfone Zoom ZX551ML 5.0 / 6.0.1
Fixed: some users did not have mobile Internet, especially after changing SIM-cards
Fixed: when launching some programs, a window appeared with a warning about libraries (LineageOS flaw)
Fixed: the Accessibility settings section did not work
Fixed: quick reply to messages from the notification panel did not work, SMS / MMS crash occurred
Fixed: move gestures did not work in ZenMotion
Fixed: very often the multi-user icon in the blind went off the screen (thanks @arti1208 )
Fixed: text editor crashed in some applications
Note: since the definition of SIM cards has changed, then after dirty install, it may be necessary (or maybe not required) a single reject/eject of SIM cards
2018/12/18
Updated code, updated ASUS applications (TwinAPPS, settings, system interface, TeleService, Telecom, AsusCallingScreen, power saving mode, LockScreen, etc.)
Setting the number of icons in the dock bar moved to the settings of the Asus launcher - Home screen and do not need ROOT. Thanks @arti1208 for help in the implementation
Added adjustment of the number of lines and columns of icons in the QS Panel, the choice of the number of icons in the QS Panel header
Added ASUS function "Power and boost"
Added the ability to select SystemUI between Zenfone 4 and AOSP 7, on the AOSP 7 SystemUI ASUS themes will not change the QS Panel, which is logical
Three different weather widget options: stock, ZenUI 3.5 and ZenUI 4.0
Ability to change audio presets of the Audio Wizard between the drain and what I use in BORETS ROM
Added the ability to enable the navigation bar
I tried to make a style close to Android 8.0, for example, the checkboxes are now round, the volume panel with rounded corners
New battery style from Zenfone 5, status bar icons also from Zenfone 5
I tried to port the code and notification style from Asus Zenfone 5 (Android 8.0)
Added display of user photos in the QS Panel
Updated many apps
Now the search for mobile Internet after switching on is faster
Updated internet access points
I deleted the unnecessary item "SIM card", because I fixed the Internet meeting on SIM2
Duplicate ZenMotion item in the main menu
The core is patched under Magisk 18
Various fixes and improvements (I forgot already what exactly)
Fixed: UC Browser didn't work
Fixed: sometimes the Internet spontaneously switched to SIM2
Fixed: for some users, the bluetooth application gave an error
Fixed: Bluetooth calls did not work again
Fixed: FlipFont fonts crashed after exiting programs
2018/11/19
Fixed: removed ASUS setup wizard shell, which did not allow setting via the mobile Network(it was impossible to choose a SIM 1 for data transfer) if you use two SIM cards
Corrected some permissions on files
2018/11/18
Removed a lot of unused code from LineageOS, a lot of code is replaced with AOSP, a lot of code is replaced back with Zenfone 4 7.1.1 with LineageOS 14.1 and AOSP 7.1.2_r36, also removed the unused Asus code
Most libraries, programs. frameworks re-compiled from my sources
Updated Asus Launcher to 4.5.1.30, on which he made his mods 5 and 7 icons
Fully corrected notifications, now from each contact, from each program they are grouped separately and for each group the "Reply" item is available, many messages are displayed in the thread, and not 1-2, as it was before
Full wifi code from Zenfone 4 stock firmware
Added SystemUI tuner, where you can configure which icons in the status bar will be displayed, the type of clock, etc.
I added another item of work with SIM cards to the settings, SIM switching for data transfer is available from it, it is very useful if the transfer spontaneously switched to SIM 2 and, accordingly, the Internet does not work, now you don’t need to pull SIM 2 out of the slot to solve the problem
Added to the developer options known for Android 6.0.1 and cuttedin 7.0+ point of show CPU usage Show CPU Usage
The Asus Pixelmaster camera has been removed, as many hope for a miracle, but the camera's bugs on LineageOS do not go anywhere like this (green bars, freezes, etc.)
Removed from the firmware Google maps, Google photos, Youtube and will never again include them in the package. The reason is that Google has started to make these programs with external language packs that are being downloaded from the market, so that the integration of these programs into the system has become useless: the program will be only English or hybrid, even the application menu will have the English name
Updated many apps to current versions
Removed a lot of unused frameworks, files, permissions, so now in the system partition is already 503 MB
Reduced the weight of the installation archive with firmware from 1.3 to 1.08 GB
Attempting to fix the processor overload while charging is connected
Setup Wizard with Zenfone 4 ZE554KL
The interface has become faster
Fixed a many bugs:
-Fixed: when entering the sound settings wizard and exiting the sound settings were reset, and after the call, the sound effects could be turned off
-Fixed: there was no indication of the connected headphones and headset, now the icons of the headset and headphones are displayed by default, if you don’t like it, you can turn it off via SystemUI Tuner
-Fixed: with the "show touches" enabled in the settings for developers, there were problems on the lock screen: it was hanging, the phone could go into reboot, it was almost impossible to keep a pin-code and a pattern key
-Fixed: the number of connected users of a WIFI access point was not displayed, information about users was not displayed, and the setting for connecting only authorized devices did not work
Other
2018/10/10_2
Increased the minimum auto brightness to level 6, but it was too dull, the minimum level of manual brightness left the minimum possible, i.e. one
I added the "BORETS ROM Settings" item to the settings, which included the ability to turn on the Internet speed indicator, as well as the BORETS ROM Settings subsection, which added the ability to select the number of icons in the lunch bar, select the default memory (select where the folders will go programs, screenshots folder, etc. Not all programs can work with folders on the card and data folders are not transferred to the card, but new ones are created, so the data will remain in the internal memory before switching, keep this in mind), as well as mode selection SELinux. Do not forget that this subsection works under the conditions specified in the category heading in blue font (you need root and allow root for the system interface and the program that will ask when entering)
Now you can download to the card even from those programs that do not have an API for requesting recording on the card
Updated some programs
Must be fixed: some users sometimes turn off the voice speaker during a call
Fixed: fonts were not fully used in some applications
Fixed: the fonts did not work in some cases, gave the error "Ending free space"
Fixed: sometimes the Bluetooth application failed with an error
Numerous edits of the SELinux policy that prevented Asus programs from working normally
2018/10/02
Added the ability to disable SIM-cards from the phone settings, as on the stock ROM
Added the ability to change fonts from the settings of the screen, as on the Stock ROM, two FlipFont fonts in the package: Felbridge and Syndor, as they fully support the Russian language. Other fonts can be found in the Play Market or somewhere else, I repeat, you need FlipFont fonts, as you download and install the APK, the fonts will appear in the settings of the screen - Font style. Attention: if the font in the status bar and the curtain has not changed, then you must perform a quick reboot of the phone or restart SystemUI using third-party APPS
Significantly reduced the minimum brightness of the screen, do not be scared that the auto-brightness "broke", will fade with unaccustomed, especially when the phone in the apartment is on the table, do not worry how to pick it up from the table so that the angle of incidence of the light was close to 90 degrees will increase. And in the sun, auto brightness, as it was before, will give the maximum possible level of 255, so that the screen is readable
The framework code of the camera with Zenfone 4 is NOT affected the camera. I can say 100% that I can not do anything with the camera, it will remain as in LineageOS 14.1
I hope that I finally fixed the error com.android.phone, manifested in several users
Replaced GAPPS with programs and Google services from Google Nexus Player, embedded Youtube, maps, Photo, Gmail
2018/09/26
Fixed: no calls via bluetooth headset
Fixed: the notification panel did not display messages, if there were several of them
Fixed: in the Do Not Disturb mode, the recall interval was 500 minutes instead of 3 minutes
Fixed: it was impossible to put the download on pause, crashed with the error process.media
Ported bluetooth code from zf4, application of bluetooth with zf4
Some applications have been updated
Some additions and corrections in Russian and Ukrainian locations

Very funny. Do you think I'm more clever than LineageOS team and can add Vulkan? No, still only Google Nexus Player on Intel CPU have Vulkan.
Low voice in recorded audio
Low mic sensitivity during audio recording comparing to Borets stock rom . i record class lecture with my phone. It seems that voice in the recorded audio is low than the stock borets rom. Can you check this?

Are you see which base have this ROM? Right, LineageOS 14.1. Therefore also low sound record level, also freeze when watch full screen video in Google Chrome etc. I'm is a weak magician still, I can not make Lineage Source code better than present:crying:
Thank for the reply. I'm a long time user of your rom. I just wanted you to know about this issue. I liked the Zenfone 4 edition. But I think I'll go back to stock edition as I record a lot with my phone.

Question Bloatware Security app causes high/Unstable latency when gaming on PC via USB tethering?

- It is playable and stable when I tried other phone
- I thought bloatwares causes this but I already remove them all
- I am not really sure if the security app causes this but its the only bloatware remaining and rooting the phone could only remove the security, is there other way to remove the security app or improve the latency via usb tethering?
adb shell
adb devices
pm uninstall --user 0 com.miui.securitycenter
Connect the phone to the PC
Unzip and run MIUI Global Debloater
Caution. A lot of the debloater advice states that removing MIUI Security app will brick your phone, so therefore proceed with caution and if you do go ahead please let us know if it is OK to do it on your RN10P and what version of MIUI.
Best wishes.

Try better first only to deactivate it with titanium or alpha backup.
And better backup before all important things
I know I fixed It but I didnt remember.
Here is few things i know i did.
There is a system app called ''battery and performance", Go to settings/apps and force stop and clear data of it. It would revert bad changes It did to save battery when it was below 5%.
The main reason I did it was because There is a bug and there will be always a bug because Xiaomi wont fix it. Whenever once battery goes below 5%, there are as 8 cores (6 Little and 2 Big)
Miui actually goes to power saving mode and disables 2big cores. I think u might have experienced it performance goes down.
But the real point is It actually also impacts Display FPS and network maybe. even u recharge phone.
For a case If u have enabled 120Hz screen some apps wont give more than 60Hz. Some are built for 60 like Youtube for sure wont got affected.
Games are affected and all apps having 120 support effected. even If u select 90 fps in game settings like Pubg for example FPS meter wouldnot show more than 60Hz.
So The Culprit Is ''Battery and Performance" app.
Just force stop and clear data and check If it works
redmi note 10 pro same device as yours and I know as I am facing another bug, same would U bcz firmware is latest I have debloated many apps from adb pm.... command.
A Bug I know exist most people wont know is about Cellular network Band. It adds jitter in connection.
And I have solution for that one but that require root. maybe not
But Trust me I know problem Thats it we can find solution
To know the problem, It is actual in band selection. If u check it and find a fix please share it here.
I am writing my fix here
---> Download app from Playstore called "Hidden Settings For Android" to see the problem.
---> now search "band"
U have to use little brain and see all three selections name.
---> FUN read this " Two system apps called System settings and Miui System settings have control over band selection. Right!
---> One open settings for band selection and other opens settings for band selection as same as we think but they are different apps and have different data storage settings they override each other if u select one band in one settings and two in another make both their selection buggy.
By default when i didnt found this I was experiencing bad network.
Then I selected same band on both settings and keep them open in background and by network run back to normal * more faster than other devices on same network provider
As soon as I remove both from background, later bug starts to happen again.

I think debloating will not work here but a fix is by root,
root app called "Root activity launcher" is a fix
disable one setting app service that control band.
hey dont remove one app Security. I was stucked in booting screen after doing that and I reset

Try better first only to deactivate it with titanium or alpha backup.
And better backup before all important things

the hidden settings app didnt show the settings where I can choose what type of band i want but instead I use the activity launcher app and the 3 settings to select band appear there.
I was able to play fall guys normally but in valorant there's still random spike on latency. another problem is that it doesnt stay on the lte band that i choose.
i can now play fall guys smoothly but i always go to this settings and choose same lte band before connecting it to my pc.

I dont use the 120hz mode on my screen.
i tried to clear data of "Battery and Performance" app but it doesnt work
