ADB on Windows 8 - 7" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Some time ago, I went from stock Amazon OS to Chameleon OS. After that, I lost ADB connection on my family's laptop running Windows 7. Now I'm running CM10.2, and I'm trying to figure out how to enable ADB on my Windows 8 laptop. For a while I could do it over Wi-Fi using ADB Wireless, but now it's having issues. Is there anyway to get ADB over USB on Windows 8?

You'll want to read the OP and the second post from OP. They are both pertinent http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583801 Good ole windows and their signed drivers...
Edit - Stunts ADB drivers here just in case http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2477379

Thanks! The thread you linked me to didn't work for me. I did disable driver signature enforcement though, something I've been meaning to do for a while. I ended up just using stunt's ADB drivers. They work when I'm in the root of the folder where I keep them, but if I add the folder to the PATH statement, it acts like I'm using the old ADB drivers. :silly:
Oh well. Again, thanks!

Windows 7 G1 Drivers

Any chance anyone knows where to find some or has made any drivers for the G1 and win 7?
what do you mean? the G1 works perfectly fine with windows 7. Using the old drivers i used with Vista.
Vista drivers worked fine with me on the Windows 7 RC, have not tried on the final yet cause I dont have it
android 1.5r3 drivers confirmed working on win7 7600 x86 & x64.
Yesterday I connected my G1 to my Win 7 Pro laptop and after updating the driver, yes, the old driver from Vista worked (dunno why at first Win 7 didn't see it).
One issue I ran into that renders my laptop useless for working with my G1 though is that the Command Prompt launches and closes immediately. Asides from that, it sees the G1 as an ADB device with the proper driver.

That's no fun, does it still do that if you: Winkey+r, type "cmd" + enter ?

Don't have the laptop with me right now, but I'll give it a shot.
SDK 1.5r3 works perfectly for me on windows 7. Just make sure you run command prompt as administrator
Of course, I don't set my personal machines as anything else other than Admin.
The Winkey + r, cmd, enter worked just fine. Stupid Start menu...
Thanks guys.
I have been useing Windows 7 and the G1 for around a month now with no problems, i didnt have to update any drivers, just plugged it in and it worked. Unless your talking about the Android ADB sdk tools. then read above.
Yeah it works Fine now.. It ended up being an issue with the usb port driver.

[HELP]cmd adb error msg...

I already have my pc setup with adb. It appears to be working just fine. I'm trying to setup adb on my laptop and is running into all types of problems. I've downloaded the sdk and ran the sdk setup.exe and downloaded all the latest files, and of course the usb driver. I was able to successfully install the driver and was able to connect my G1 for file transfer. I've followed the guide info to the letter but for some strange reason I get the following:
Code:
* daemon not running. starting it now *
* daemon started successfully *
error: device not found
I've already tried uninstalling the newest driver and installing the working one from my pc, then I tried downloading a driver that was listed by a user in this thread. Still no luck. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

1) Done [Don't insult me!]
2) Tried 3 different drivers. All allowed me to connect my G1 to transfer files, but not ADB.
3) ...shouldn't have to install linux. My pc (running windows abviously) works just fine. My laptop, running windows, should work the same.
Thanks for the assistance though...

I really wouldn't except this behavior from you, but I see we all fall from grace every now and again. I've posted in that thread already, no one can seem to come up with an intelligent response. I followed all the instructions in both adb help threads for proper installation on my laptop. If you don't know the answer to what I'm seeking, I would honestly prefer you not to reply at all. Don't assume I'm the typical xda idiot, assume I'm the most intelligent person you've ever spoke to, then go from there with your next reply.

you posted a couple of hours ago, duplicating posts might be considered spam
you didn't really give any useful information in your post(s)
and if I were to assume your were, then this is just some boring role play thing at a job interview or something, as you wouldn't really need anyones help on this.
Everyone, Chill it.
We don't need a flame war.
Check your firewall. Make sure it's not blocking the connection. Also, are you using the same USB cord on both machines?

Thank you for trying to "actually" assist me. I am using the exact same usb cable on purpose to rule that out as a reason. I've also recently update both computers to the latest norton antivirus. Like I stated the drivers install on the laptop and I'm able to connect the G1 for file transfers, so I assume the driver is working but when I type in adb device or adb shell in cmd, I get the no device msg. I'm really stumped with this one...
*Update* My norton did remove adb.exe from windows\system32 on both computers, but I was able to restore that file on both. Like I said, my pc works just fine, laptop no good...
And point 3
Install linux ( ubuntu 10.4 )
Just give it 10gb
It will eliminate hardware faults as being the problem
The android developer has a tutorial for 10.4, so it should be easy
( no need for drivers, aparently 10.4 ships with the android udev rule )
the driver for file transfer isnt the same as the driver for adb....so your logic is flawed
seriously tho, use linux...wubi is pretty good now and u only need 4-10gb if u are only using it for android stuff
in my experience, windows, especially where norton is used, randomly breaks adb
The file transfer is done using the standard windows mass storage driver, not an android specific driver. Even if it's the same norton, try disabling it and see what happens. Also, trying removing the driver completely and reinstalling it again. I've had the issue happen also only when in windows and it's always something random.
virtualbox _should_ ( I think ) let you 'see' the Android Phone regardless of the drivers being installed on the Windows host
But, I have not tested that
Did you ever get this to work, I have the same issue?
I'm having the same issue, I'm trying to use ADB with my TF300T from a Windows 7 64 bit system. Always get the error adb error.
I have a couple of questions will this work correctly with a 64bit O.S?
Also the part of the instructions that reference SDCARD are they talking about the directory on my ASUS /sdcard/ or are they talking about the physical card?
Just need to know does it require you to have a sdcard in the ASUS to use adb?
May sound like fundamental questions to a lot of you, however I have combed through these forums as well as others all over the web, and the majority of instructions seem to be lacking the basics.
Thank you,
I have Ubuntu at work should I run ADB through this?
I have Ubuntu at work
It's a bit of a process according to the instructions that I have on the
screen right now to setup ADB through this, is there any gotchas that I should
know about before attempting this?
This is running on a VM on one of my servers. What I'm looking for is any known compatibility issues with versions of ADB and the Asus TF300T running .26
Thanks in advance.

Can't use ADB

I tried using ADB with my 2X yesterday, but it couldn't find my device although I have enabled USB debugging. I found in default.prop "persist.service.adb.enable=0" Is this the reason that I can't use ADB?
What ROM are you using? What drivers are you using? Did you try restarting your device? did you try ADB in CWM with ADB support?
I was not able to test with persist.service.adb.enable=0. For some reason it reverted to 1 automatically..
What does ADB say when you try write adb devices?
You should always run it from a command prompt

are you use 64bit Win 7 ??
try to use 32 bit Win7 ...
It would be nice if you wrote in english, so others can benefit from your answers as well...
But if you wrote something like
"Are you using windows 7 64bit?
it works fine on windows 7 32bit"
Then I can answer that it doesn't matter if you run 64 bit or 32 bit. I don't even think there's differences in the drivers. I can use ADB perfectly fine with win 7 ultimate 64.

[Q] ADB device not found

My ADB is not working... So basically I messed up my HTC ONE by formatting the whole device including system... I'm not sure what to do now. My ADB isn't working. Ive updated the ADB drivers, and updated SDK for Google. My device is not detected by my computer. When i'm in fastboot mode my phone is detected. Is there any other way of pushing a file to my device?
exactly where im at, my windows 8 cant detect but my windows 7 can detect once i move the thing down to fastboot. Shows "Android 1.0"

try this, im currently sideloading a rom on my phone right now: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2139767

trying to get S-Off via Vbox/Windows 7

I have adb installed and it is working at the Cmd Prompt.
The phone is seen by Vbox and seems to be captured by W7 (when I quit Vbox, I see the phone on the USB devices pulldown).
But when I run adb devices - nothing.
I have installed HTC Sync to get the drivers, then uninstalled HTC Sync. Only the driver remains.
suggestions? Thanks
BTW, I'm on an MBA running 10.8.5, but no HTC or other android apps are installed/

Virtual machines cannot be used to fastboot/adb/S-OFF. However, through Firewater, you can S-OFF natively on Mac OS. Else, if it doesn't work (no idea why it shouldn't), bootcamp the Mac.

tried firewater on the Mac. NG.
why would bootcamp be any different than Vbox?
Why would FW work any differently on another OS?
I was led to believe that is FW didn't work on the Mac it won;t work from another OS.

Yes, bootcamp is a native Windows install. VMware is dependent upon the host computer's drivers. The drivers needed for fastboot/adb require a native install. I RUU'ed mine perfectly through a Windows 7 bootcamp install.
But, again:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V0MyTvgfO7s
This video clearly explains how to do it on a Mac. If it still doesn't work, well, Bootcamp is needed.
