[Q] Auto spinning while taking photospheres - Galaxy Camera Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I managed to install google's photosphere camera from jelly bean 4.3 on my samsung galaxy camera (GC-EK100).
However while taking photospheres i notice some slightly auto spinning - resulting in weird screwed spheres, since the camera thinks it was rotated, while is what not. Usually i end up with the top half rotated 90 degrees against the lower half.
So i take one shot for the sphere and place the camera on a still surface - it starts rotating (the screen, not the camera, of course).
Any idea?
I already used motion calibration from setting menu, which did not change anything. Any other way to "calibrate" this? Does the motion calibration work on this, because the app seems to be portrait only?

maybe disabling auto rotation in setting so it stays on the same orientation while photosphering! i will try that on mine

Autofocus

Hi,
Almost every camera in the world has a halfway-click that focuses, measures the light and then takes the picture when you press the shutter button all the way.
On other phones (iPhone), where there isn't a halfway -setting, this is done by taking the picture when the user releases the button, which gives much greater control over exactly when the picture is taken.
Do you know of any program (camerazoom, snapshotpro etc?) that works this way? The stock camera app doesn't and it's quite detrimental to the quality of pictures you can take.
This means the camera needs to auto focus when I press the trackball button down and then take the picture within a split second when I let go of the button, since it no longer needs to measure light or focus. I would really love this feature.
Hi ,
Go to my thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=551904 the program I mentioned has this option also .
Thanks! Will check it out!
There is a workaround that i use that is effective on my mT3G. I turn auto focus off. That makes the camera focus at infinity. With these tiny lenses, infinity can start at less than three feet. So anything farther away than that is in focus if you turn off auto focus. I use SnapPhoto Pro to turn off the autofocus.
If you use SnapPhoto Pro autofocus, you touch the screen to focus and let go to take the photo. That works well. It also has a continuous focus feature which works very well but drains the battery.

Camera autofocus indication

Hi, guys. I need some help. I have P9, EMUI 4.1, EVA-L19, from two months. Today i notice somenthing strange. When i shooting with b/w camera automatically appear the white circle in the middle of the screen. It became yellow when the camera focused. When i shooting with color camera this circle do not appear. The camera autofocusing. All is normal, but do not indication for that. It appear when i zoom... When i hide the b/w camera with finger in color camera mode without zoom the white ring appear on screen. Is it normal ? I am worring that may i have camera problem?
P.S. I try to reset hardware and software...Clear the cashe of camera ... but the situation is as i describe above.

Camera fault ? Proximity sensor fault ?

Hi,
Could someone please test something for me ?
- When I set the exposure time to manual, 8 seconds, and take a completely black frame (i.e. the tablet is on its back, so the camera lens is covered) there is a lot of white hot pixels on the resulting photo (white dots). Could someone please do the same and tell the result ? I don't know if my camera is faulty or it's just normal (yes, I know usually tablets do not offer good photo quality, but still... why they allow so long exposure if the photos are unusable - and actually, could come really good with such long exposure?)
- What about the proximity sensor ? it's working in "kid mode", I mean - it's warning when I hold the tablet too close, but then, in normal mode, when I install any testing application and try to test the sensor, its readout does not change - constantly returning 5cm. But, on the other hand, it's reacting when I close the flip cover (screen goes off) and when I open it (screen goes on). Could someone please tell me if their proximity sensor also does not return any readout change in testing apps ?
Thanks a lot in advance !
Hello,
Mine is like that.
-about 20 dots
-5 cm always

Thanks a lot Now I know my device is... well, kind of OK
same issue with the proximity sensor. reads 5cm always. tried via multiple sensor teesting apps. no change in result.

5x zoom fails to focus, not sharp

Hi,
anybody having this issue as well?
The 5x zoom is useless for me as the camera is unable to get in focus. So a few milliseconds and only occasionally it gets sharp but then it looks blurred again.
10x produces sharp images.

Thanks!
You have to keep in mind it is a lot slower to lock focus than the main sensor. Give it time to lock on target and then take the shot or else you will end up with unfocused shots.

Well it locks but then loses focus.

I assume this is not normal, I have asked for a replacement.
I have noticed this issue when trying to take a photo through a window. No matter how close you hold it to the window, it will try to focus on the window. Then if you wait long enough (5-30sec) it will focus out to infinity but then it will pop back to the window after a few seconds.
It should really default to infinity since that most objects you will use the 5X lens for will be far out.
Sometimes when it just isnt working, I switch to Pro mode and manual focus, but the interface is clunky and you lose some of the auto-features.
I've never had this issue before with other phones when taking photos through a window.
I also noticed that it is not as sharp, but I assume that is a limitation of the lower resolution sensor and maybe the OIS not fully compensating.

Mine focus perfectly through windows.

Is there literally ANY way to either use telephoto in pro mode or to force it in phot

One of the main reasons I bought this phone was for the camera specs at the time. However, I now see that the second lens is basically just a prop that does nothing. Is there any way to make it work in normal might aside from locking the focus before shooting something darker? Any option is on the table. Can I somehow tell the API that it's bright enough?
