Help with Sim-Unlock - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I have the revolution HD Rom installed on my device and I got an unlock code online from a site I trust and bought from in the past (I say that to point out that I don't think that the problem is with the key itself)
When I tried to apply it though, it said that it is wrong...
I know it sounds weird, but my research shows that it might be related to me having a custom rom installed - something about changing the baseband?
Either way, I'd love for some community help on this - is this possible?
If so, what is the quickest/painless way to get back to stock? will that require a full factory reset?
will I lose the unlock again when I switch back to the rom?
Please help as I'm currently out of the country and have no phone
Thanks!!!

You can either restore a nandroid of your stock ROM or flash an RUU. Try your code again after going to stock and it'll work.

What region is the phone from and what carrier? It's probably better if you can post your CID, which you can obtain by using the CID Getter app on the play store.

You don't need to do all that, just use a Guru Reset ROM for your firmware, that will work (confirmed from several other users, with the same situation as yours). can you post a "fastboot getvar all" (remove IMEI and s/n) and I'll point you in the right direction

Just restore a stock AT&T nandroid and you should be good to go. Afterwards, you can install custom ROMs, your unlock will stick.
EDIT: You can restore this nandroid http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/htcone-32gb-att-1-26-502-10-twrp-stock-zip/
Make a nandroid of your current ROM first if you want to return to it afterwards. The above is a TWRP nandroid.

Try this one: http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/guru_reset_m7_1-26-502-12-zip/
It's slightly newer than your version but I think it should work, you can deselect "stock recovery" and "stock radio" during the install, as you won't need those.
BTW: why don't you S-Off? (just a question, I'm in no way implying you do anything you're not comfortable with!!)

I have clockwork mod recovery, can I use that to do the twrp nandroid recovery?
Also, in the url you are directing to, it says:
This Nandroid should not be needed. I have
a Stock ROM + Recovery Reset Installer which can
reset stock ROM and allow OTA updates. See Here:

Sorry, I didn't get your question, and lots of different approaches to the same thing. If you want my opinion:
1- do a nandroid backup of your current setup
2- copy (or pull) everything to your PC, just in case
3- use the Guru Reset (http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/guru_reset_m7_1-26-502-12-zip/), that's a flashable zip in custom recovery, do not select "stock recovery" (actually you have to uncheck it)
4- do not take any OTAs
5- use your SIM unlock code
6- restore your nandroid backup
if in step 5 the SIM unlock code doesn't work, then you can explore other options
That's my humble opinion.

I guess the stock reset is fine, the main goal is to get you back to the stock carrier ROM for the unlock code to work.

Thanks for the tip,
I followed the instructions to the letter and now it seems like I'm stuck on the HTC ONE boot screen...
I tried restarting once (after letting it idle for a good 10 minutes I think)
now I'm just staring at it, not really sure what my next step should be... could it just be that I need to wait?
On a positive note, I can still access fastboot/recovery so I guess worst case, I can do a factory reset - that oughta fix it, right?
Question about that - if I do that, will I still be able to do the nandroid restore and go back to my original state?
Thanks

What's up with that, 2nd person today (out of 2) having problems with the Guru Resets
did you wipe in the Installer? did you make sure the download is not corrupt (MD5 sum)?
The way I usually know if the bootup is stuck or not, is: after a few minutes (something like 2 or 3 minutes, maybe less) the screen will change brightness, if it does I know it's not stuck, if the brightness doesn't change, I force a reboot and reflash.
I recommend you reboot to recovery, and restore your backup, just to have a functioning phone, then check the MD5 sum of your download to make sure it's OK.
I'm about to flash the Guru Reset that also got the other guy "stuck", to see if it works or not....

Which RUU , URGENT

Hi,
I am on Vodafone Germany. I have to send my Phone for repair. I need to unroot and get rid sign of TAMPERED.
I have read that i need to install RUU at the end. I have not able to find VODA Fone CID VODAP102 RUU.
I have install CWM and the back of CWM Nandroid Backup / CID VODAP102 / 1.29.161.7 but I am not able to get rid of TAMPERED message.
Kindly help and point me to right RUU.
Regards
Zeeshan
any body`? any idea ?
Tampered means you have a custom recovery installed. If you install the stock HTC One recovery, that tampered sign is supposed to go away.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=38504123
Just flash the stock recovery in fastboot and update us with the result.
All the RUUs available are found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2207874
I'd be lying if I said I know which one you're supposed to install, sorry.
do s-off with supercid and you can install any ruu then you can relock bootloader and s-on and it wont say relocked on bootloader screen just dont mess with h-boot and s-on you will brick
Even after installing Stock Recovery, it still says TEMPERED.
If lock the bootloader it say Relocked otherwise unlocked.
If i change CID then It will be no longer Vodp102 ??
What to do next
That is more info

So if i get you correctly,
I Change CID to SUPERCID
then I can install this RUU
RUU_M7_UL_JB_50_HTC_Europe_1.28.401.7_Radio_4A.13. 3231.27_10.31.1131.05_release_310878_signed.exe
and then after installation my phone will be like complete FACTORY RESET with everything like not TEMPERED or RELOCKED etc ??
After that without root, i can still change CID ??

You could try to install a Nandroid back up of a Vodafone Germany Firmware
http://www.handy-faq.de/forum/htc_o...rom_wiederherstellen_via_nandroid_backup.html
Scrolling down a little there is a link to the Vodafone Nandroid Back Up 1.29.....
You find all Info you need, German Forum with several active xda members there.
After that you can flash the stock recovery, lock the bootliader and then S-on, if I am not mistaken.
Good luck

I am not using any custom rom. I just rooted my phone and CWM touch recovery rest everything is default. So it is Stock customized version of Vodafone.
Then you should try first with a Custom ROM. See if that takes care of the hissing.
Try for example InsertCoin 1.0.8
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2279766
Do first Nandroid Backup of your current rooted stock Vodafone ROM, then flash IC 1.0.8 (that definitely has no hissing and is also based on 1.29 so no hassle with SDcard backing up and moving stuff around which you have to do with a ROM based on 2.17)
Then you know for sure!

Is there an easy way to do Nandroid backup other then this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818321 ???
I want to try the ROM you suggested.
Yes, of course!
Have the .zip of the InsertCoin 1.0.8 on your SDcard.
Boot up into your recovery, either CWM or TWRP, and select BackUp, then let it run, takes a few minutes.
Then do a factory reset/wipe cache, select then Install zip from SDcard, choose InsertCoin.zip and follow the instructions.
Use vol +/- and Power Buttons in Aroma Installer rather than touchscreen as Aroma freezing issues. Then finally boot up and see if you still have the hissing.

Just a Nandroid on your fone within your recovery is fine. The instructions in that thread there needs some adb knowledge.
After you did a nandroid (= back up) you can copy it to your computer. Takes only a few moments

Phone is soft bricked, attempts to fix haven't work

Yesterday, I attempted to install a new rom. I had been using CM11 nightlies up till this point, and after being annoyed about certain aspects of my phone not working. I wanted to try something new.
I found ViperOne, and went to install it, thinking that it'll be the standard, run-of-the-mill install with no problems to be had. After getting through the install procedure and attempting to reboot to system, my phone dropped me back off at the bootloader. Thinking that I had forgotten to wipe something, I went into the recovery, wiped data, dalvik cache, and the cache, and attempted the install again. Once again, my phone dropped me off at the bootloader.
I thought, maybe I had a bad download. Re-downloaded the rom, same result. "Oh, I'll just try something else then". I found a Google Play Edition rom for my device, and decided to try that. It got stuck in a bootloop. After some googling, I attempted wiping the data/cache/dalvik cache again hoping it would help. Nope, still stuck in bootloop.
At this point (and after having running into a very similiar situation before) I decided to go for broke. I did a full wipe of the phone, and sideloaded CM10.1.3 (only stable CM rom for this device afaik). As it was installing, I noticed an error. "Unable to mount /data". I've had this problem before, and the way I fixed it last time was to install and run a stock rom. At this point in time, I was also getting frustrated and decided to put the stock rom back on my phone so it would at least be functional.
I found a stock rom and installed it just fine. The phone didn't even get stuck in a bootloop either. However, once the phone had finally booted up, I found that the touchscreen was unresponsive. I remember having this issue the last time I tried to use a stock rom. After a little bit of research, I had found that the problem stems from installing the wrong version of the rom. It was suggested on one of the websites to put "fastboot getvar version-main" into adb to find out what version I needed. It returns "version-main: ".
It was at this point that I remembered that I had made a backup of my phone before I attempted rooting. After some searching around, I managed to find it. That being said, I have no idea what to do with it. The folder where I made the backup contains a handful of .win files and some md5 checksums.
Since then I have been attempting seemingly random RUU versions in hopes of stumbling across the right one. It's been 5 hours, and I haven't had any success.
I would greatly appreciate any and all help that can be provided. If you guys need additional information (I'm not sure what I should include), let me know. I know some of the more basic ADB commands and their functions, so bear with me if I ask some questions about how to do certain things.
Boot into bootloader/fastbootusb and type the below command and post the readout here.
fastboot getvar all

I had this happen to me also. Ends up i had to flash a new firmware on the phone and it booted right up. Also make sure you are using twrp recovery when you flash this rom. I used cwm and think that is where all my problems started. Hope ya get it worked out and may not be your problem but is exactly what happened to me and have i fixed it.

I had tried all but one of those in that list. That one that I hadn't used yet appears to be working. Thank you so much for the help.
Oh god, now I'm back on the stock rom... Any recommendations for a good rom? I enjoy the stock look and feel of android, but running the CM nightlies has been giving me a headache.

[SOLVED] [Q] HTC Stuck on Boot Screen, here's what I did

Hi everyone,
I've spent the last 6 hours attempting various fixes from forums and I just can't &^%$ing get this.
Here's what I did.
(1) Phone got stuck in a bootloop.
(2) I did a backup in TWRP version 2.6.
(3) Factory reset.
(4) Everything worked again, no bootloop.
(5) Tried to recover from the backup in TWRP, backup failed.
(6) Phone now stuck on the HTC One screen.. won't load a thing.
I really just want things back to normal, as in stock ROM.
Some info about the phone:
S-ON
TWRP ver 2.6
rooted
can access recovery
don't need anything on the phone
I'm looking for a solution to get this phone going again.. any solution. I'd prefer to be on stock ROM. I'd love some help on this. I'm here.
post your fastboot getvar all please

well if you don't need anything on the phone and you previously did a factory reset and the phone stopped boot-looping, why did you restored that faulty backup? just do a factory reset and you'll be good

The factory reset isn't working. It still hangs. I did the initial backup through TWRP. Will Titanium backup be compatible with that backup?
Now the phone is currently locked, no OS.Should I flash another ROM?

You could do with seeing if you can see this number anywhere in the bootloader 4.19.631.9 usually under os- however, radio's match

The OS is set to 1.000.000. I used some **** utility that reset it. I started clicking things... lol
One thing I'm wondering is since this phone is S-ON, will I be able to even flash a ROM? Could that be the reason that the TWRP restore function isn't working? As far as I know... SON would prevent system files from being written.. correct me if I'm wrong
..downloading that file as I write this

looks like your RUU, like I said, its a Rogers RUU and contains the same radio, your version-main just threw me off a bit, leave your bootloader locked / relocked and plug into your computer in bootloader mode, then run the RUU on your computer, follow the instructions, make sure your battery is 50% or more before running.
regarding your other question, you can flash custom roms whilst s-on, you just have to make sure your bootloader is unlocked, s-on is not there to protect system files, its there to protect you from messing with the HBOOT and radio's etc which will brick the phone if done wrong, you cant brick by flashing rom's.

I'm guessing a side-load? I really like the install wizard, the RUU method is pretty ingenious. One quick question for you: It's asking me for a system update, OTA, that's not installing after I download it. I unlocked the bootloader through HTC dev using the binary they e-mail you. Would I have to unroot? Any tips on what I could do?
[edit: for some reason, OTA worked] thanks a lot for your help and especially for that magical link. cheers

No, you have to put your phone in fastbootRUU mode and then flash the zip from your computer using fastboot commands.
Glad the OTA worked in the end, but in future when installing OTA's just make sure your bootloader is locked / relocked first.

Hello Marco,
Here is how to relock your bootloader:
1. Power the phone down
2. Hold "Down" button then hold "Power" key while still holding "Down" button until you get into the bootloader
3. Release "Down" and "Power" button
A different way to do it other than steps 1 - 3 is follow steps 6 - 8 and type in a command prompt
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
4. Tap "Power" key once and it will change from "HBOOT" in white letters with blue background to "FASTBOOT" in white letters with red background
5. Connect your USB cable and it will say "FASTBOOT USB"
6. Navigate to the folder you have your adb.exe, fastboot.exe stuff from Android Studio or wherever you obtained it from (Mine is in C:\myusername\Android\sdk\platform-tools)
7. Hold the "Shift" key then right click in any empty space in that folder
8. Select "Open command window here"
9. Type
Code:
fastboot devices
in the command window, then press Enter just to make sure it is picking up your phone
10. You should see something like: "HT42PXU99475 fastboot" if you don't make sure your USB cable is inserted all the way and you are in "FASTBOOT USB"
11. Type
Code:
fastboot oem lock
in the command window
You should see something like:
Code:
(bootloader) [PGFS] partition_update_pgfs: pg1fs_security
(bootloader) TZ_HTC_SVC_ENC ret = 0
(bootloader) [PGFS] partition_update_pgfs: pg2fs_sec_recovery
(bootloader) Lock successfully...
(bootloader) TZ_HTC_SVC_DISABLE ret = 596539196 (0x1FFFFD6C)
(bootloader) Start Verify: 3
(bootloader) WARM RESET: 9
(bootloader) [INFO] Reset reason in IMEM is 0x77665800
(bootloader) [INFO] Rebooting device
FAILED (status read failed (No such file or directory))
finished. total time: 1.110s
Your phone will automatically reboot and your bootloader will be locked
You can check by booting into the bootloader and it should say *** RELOCKED *** at the top in white letters and purple background
Thanks Dude!
Its locked indeed!!

You only need to follow those steps if you plan to use the RUU from here.
If you have a stock recovery, you can use TWRP. If you have the file boot.emmc.win in the recovery folder, that is the stock kernel. Just put the stock image on your sdcard and Restore it in TWRP.
It worked... A little too well.

Do you have adb on your computer? This is one reason why I don't trust the one click root methods. You can fix this by downloading the rom for your phone from the HTC website. I do have abd and, fortunately, I still have the RUU I used to unbrick my phone. I really was optimistic about WinDroid working, but I guess that's just how it goes. Hopefully I can get it unlocked and, at least, rooted before noon. Big day today, might chase a few tornadoes!!! :fingers-crossed: I'll post another reply to say whether or not manually re-unlocking it works.
On second thought, it would be very wise to be proactive and see if my RUU is the same as the one you're thinking of... I may have just made myself look like an idiot, but with this rooting and rom and kernel stuff I am a complete newbie. If you could post that link, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!!!

WinDroid is a great tool. The only problem with it comes when you have adb installed already and you install the drivers that come with WinDroid. They cause a conflict.
I hope the manual method of unlocking works for you. It has always worked for me, unless I made a mistake. When I correct the mistake, it goes off without a hitch.
You can find the RUU here for your respective carrier.

I may need some more help, pertaining the specific step-by-step stuff... Downloading the stock ... Rom/RUU?... from the HTC website. I'll be up all night trying to get this fixed, mainly due to needing my phone for my new job early this week. My end goal through all of this is to get a rom/kernel, or whatever else is needed, installed on it and either have it with write-protection removed or just completely blank so I don't have to worry about Boost hacking my phone and installing a bunch of crap and changing my screen setup. I really appreciate your help, guys. I will admit that, yes, I am slow to catch on to this stuff, but once I completely get the hang of this I want to be a big contributor to XDA and start helping others and developing/testing roms, etc.

Do you have a Boost Mobile over there in your Country? If not it's going to be pretty hard to use the phone since it's locked to Boost..
Hey, yooo hooo @deepak oli Answer me!!
---------- Post added at 10:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:37 PM ----------
Fine don't answer me then, do it when you want to..
Ok here we go, you need to flash twrp from right here ---> twrp-2.8.7.0-a11.img This is going to be flashed after you unlock your boot loader so go use your unlock token and unlock the boot and then from a computer flash the twrp by doing fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.8.7.0-a11.img after you flash that go to the HBoot and tell it to reboot to recovery and while you're in recovery tap backup to make a backup because it needs to be done to move certain files/folders... Then go to the XDA thread and download the modded cm11 by me and follow the directions on which file to put it in and after this your phone will boot... CM11 Modded on XDA
Will this work and will i be able to use my phone again???
If yes then thhhaaaannnnkkkk uuuuuu!!!!!!

Firstly, you need to remove your IMEI unless its dummy IMEI.
Secondly, what is the current status of the device, can you provide some explanation as to what do you need ? Do you need stock ROM, custom ROM, are you on TWRP.
I see its an orange device, but from which country ?

My apologies as I did not notice.
In this case you have more than 1 option.
You can download the stock from here, Latest available version : http://6468.ir/dl/?r=69941de85dfdb4dd73025bba2768d3ce
View the attachment to press the right button for download, site is not English.
You will need stock recovery to flash stock firmware.
Flash details can be found here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-mini-2/general/htc-one-mini-2-official-ruu-t3425930
Or you can do from a Nandroid Backup using TWRP without having to flash stock recovery but you will need a Nandroid Backup of the same device with stock ROM.

First of all thank you for taking time to help me out. I started to download that recovery and i noticed that its an O2 recovery and my CID is orange. do you think that could be a problem?
It looks like it will take me ages to download that file from there...

The ROM is based on your Baseband number and matches exactly with the ROM link provided.
What is your original device, Orange or O2 and which country did you buy it in ?
Could you elaborate on trying Nandroid and not working ?

The origin of the devices is UK orange. I bought it in the UK. As for the nandroid bkups they get stuck on the htc logo or they post signature failure. the only software accepted are the custom ones. Beside those ones nothing worked.
*** the file that you pointed for download matches my build but its kinda impossible to download due to slow download speed provided by the website and there are no other alternative websites to get it from

If the device is UK Orange and your Radio number indicates an O2, have you purchased a new unit, I'm having a feeling it might have SuperCID but for that you need to have S-Off ?
If they get stuck on HTC Logo, you might want to flash the boot file for your device after restoring from a Nandroid backup.
You can try and add that file into a download manager and have a peace of mind there.

Probably you are right about the superCID i really dont know. All i know is that now it says orange001 and S-on even if the radio points to O2. As for the nandroids i have tried all posible ways. Flushed boot before and after the firmware and still gets stuck on the htc logo... maybe i didnt quite got the right nandoid for the device... as none of them had the radio or build version as mine.

Manged to revert it back to stock based on the recovery that you have pointed out.
erased everything
1) flashed boot
2) moved bkup to sdcard
3) restored bkup
4) flushed boot again
5) back to stock
