Were you running a custom ROM or custom kernel before you tapped on that update message?
So what happens now when you try to turn your phone on? Does it vibrate? Does it show the Samsung Galaxy.. logo atleast?

Okay.. did you see whether the update got fully/successfully installed, I mean did you see a similar image to the one shown below?

Updating your phone's firmware is a very risky process; if your phone gets interrupted or loses power then it has a chance to get permanently bricked!! So, what happens now when you try to turn your phone on (by holding power button)? Does it vibrate? Does it show the Samsung Galaxy.. logo atleast?

Hi,
I recently upgraded my os from gb to jb.
Now for some reason the samsung anycall logo is appearing on the screen. This is the same logo that appears before download mode. I have cmw mod installed.
I let the battery discharge, and tried to reboot, and the same logo appears and freezes.
I tried using odin, and my phone was not detected.
Any advice please?
Thanks

Can you boot into Download Mode/Recovery Mode?
If so, try reflashing the ROM.
If not, your phone may be soft-bricked.

No, Download mode does not work using the three button method.
I have a feeling it is soft bricked.
I bought a micro USB jig off ebay, so I hope that will fix the issue of enabling the phone into download mode when it arrives next week.
Any other recommendations?

No, if you can't get into download mode your phone is soft bricked, you did well that you ordered that jig, use it and boot into download mode and then flash back the stock firmware using odin (you will find instructions of how to do this on the forum or wiki page) than you may try to flash custom ROM again but be careful this time.

It already has root and CWM, just select ROM under PDA and Select PIT under PIT and Flash with Odin3...there are so many flashing guides in My Guides and manuals, so read them first.
make sure you charge your phone before attempting to flash

yes. Gingerbread is an upgrade, not downgrade from froyo. anyway , just select ROM under PDA and flash, the guides contain pictures, you can follow, and its best to learn by reading them

most likely you may have left over files and folders in your SDcards and a clean install after factory reset and formatting (you will lose all your older files) your SD cards and doing the full and complete wipes in settings privacy and in recovery.
But first power down, pull out battery, press and hold power button for a min, insert battery and power up...observe if your problem still exists. If the same you may have to do the above

Hey there! I need some help entering recovery mode on my phone. I hold down Volume Up + Home + Power buttons until the Samsung logo appears with an exclamation mark below it, then I release all buttons but the phone starts like usual. I let go all buttons as soon as the logo appears. I flashed CWM recovery using this guide androidlegend.com/clockworkmod-recovery-cwm-for-galaxy-mini-2-s6500. Everything was succesful until the upgrading to v6.0.4.7 part where I need to launch the phone on recovery mode.

Pressing the yellow button on the back for about 5 to 10 seconds will indeed make it vibrate three times but after that it should be completely off.
Try it a few times. It will eventually work. Make sure the charger is not connected though!
Your phone will need to be completely off before you can start using flashtool.

Any ftf for your device model will work, but don't flash any ftf for a different model. Doing that will brick your device.
Example:
My phone is C6903 then I'll flash C6903 ftf
If I'll flash C6902 ftf to a C6903 phone then my phone will be bricked.
You can use seus (Sony Ericsson update service) for updating our reinstalling Sony phones firmware (locked bootloader only ) it helped me when i bricked my device first time

Usually this sort of thing might get solved by removing and reinserting the battery. But right, I know, the battery for the Mi5 is not removable.
Instead try to force this behaviour by pressing the power + vol up + vol down buttons all together for about 1 minute (be serious about this - also try like 2 minutes if it doesn't work quicker!).
Solved the black screen of death error for me once. Please report back. I'll stay in touch and try helping out further if I can and this doesn't solve it for you.

Okay dude, I'd have waited if you considered writing me as though you cared about what I might need to know in order to help you.
And if you'd consider thanking me in any way, I'd consider helping you out and spending my time on this.
But seriously - if my phone was bricked, and I didn't know what to do; and I opened a threat for this, I wouldn't be that self-focused to act as if I expected help as something this forum *has to* offer.
Maybe I did help you a whole lot, maybe I didn't, but I'm outta here. Good luck, in both, recovering your phone and in learning manners.

Don't use MiFlash. Try executing flash_all.bat or flash_all.sh (if you are on linux) from tgz package. I assume you've installed necessary drivers and adb-fastboot(minimal adb and fastboot).
