This happened to me a few months ago. The phone is definitely capable and you will get LTE signals on the $60/month GoPhone plan.
1. First of all, call GoPhone customer support (611 from the phone) and confirm that they have your HTC One whitelisted for LTE. They're going to double check with you your phone's IMEI number (they can already see it, but will ask you for it anyway), and then confirmed that the phone is allowed to get LTE signals. They're also going to double check your APN setting and provide you with the appropriate entries for AT&T.
2. Reboot and see if you now get LTE signals. If you still don't get it, check whether your mobile network settings is set to GSM/WCDMA/LTE Auto instead of GSM/WCDMA Auto or WCDMA Preferred (or maybe something else). If you don't see any LTE option, dial *#*#4636#*#* from your dialer, and in the first drop down box choose 'GSM/WCDMA/LTE Auto' or anything with LTE just to make sure you can catch LTE signals at all. If you were able to find and switch to the setting you want, exit out, and go back to that menu, double checking if the setting sticks. If it does, reboot and try again.
3. Most people will get LTE signals after #1 above, while some were only able to get it after #2. However if you are unlucky like me, the LTE setting does not show up in mobile network and no matter what I do in the hidden menu, the setting won't stick (it's stuck on GSM/WCDMA Auto). I actually tried flashing a different radio at this point (a newer AT&T radio), but still... no LTE for me. What solved this finally for me is that I flashed a custom ROM (in my case it was ARHD 12.2). This enabled me to choose GSM/WCDMA/LTE Auto under mobile network settings, and after that I was able to get LTE. It was great! :good:
Hopefully that helps. Good luck!

Hi guys,
I brought my first xperia from my phone serivce provider, and it always had the "3g" symbol at the top. However, when my xperia broke, I had to buy another one and got one of ebay. Since I brought the new one, my phone always has the 3 on top. I'm currently using the firestorm valkyrie rom which as the htc interface. When I go to the data connections it says an option (3g) "change to gsm mode" and on is selected. Even when I toggle that, it still always has the E symbol. What do I need to do? I know my sim card is cabable of getting the 3g. But this is a real pain because every now and then my phone just doesnt receive service, so I constantly go onto the comm manager and then it seems to just click that there's service and shows 2-3 bars. Then all of a sudden again after a while there'll be no service. So I'm guessing that's because of the E thing. It shouldn't be my current location as I've never experienced this before.
Is there a setting I can go to to get the 3g symbol? Or a patch I might need for the phone?
Please help
Kindest regards.
You need to change while the connection is not active, I believe. Or... you got the Xperia version incompatible with your network... Or... the ROM is buggy, try another.
sorry, I need to change specificially what when the connection is not active? Say you mean, turn off my phone settings and not connect to the network and then adjust something? It is not the rom. and the seller on ebay has stated that it is a 3g phone - many others have brought it as well with no complaints.
3G settings on x1
Hi
For some reason your phone is only camping on the GSM network (G or E indication depending if your carrier provide GPRS or EDGE on the GSM) instead of the 3G network (which you have been using before).
In settings, communications you should be able to set "3G change to automode" to on,
When this is set your network provider will tell your phone to use the 3G as preffered network, but when coverage is not good enough it will drop you back to 2G (which has a better reach due to lower frequency band).
If it does not happen automatically there might be another setting that is wrong,
goto settings, all settings, personal (tab), Phone.. then choose the "band" tab (need to go to the left with the arrows) , then you have the dropdwn lists to set:
select you network type (need to set auto or wcdma to get 3G)
select your GSM/UMTS band (need to set 900+1800 for europe, 1900+850 for us, dont know who is using 2100+800)
once changed the phone will restart the phone part and search for your carrier in the right band.
good luck
Hi,
Thanks for your reply. I had changed the automode to on. But still had the E.
I went to the setings, and band tab, and i had selected:
Select your network type:
(blank)
Select your GSM/UMTS band:
Auto.
I changed the first oen to auto, and as for the last, here in Australia I'm with Tesltra which is 850 UMTS? I think I read online. Anyway it didn't have the option in there, so I went through them all but wouldnt get service at all except for the first: GSM (900+1800)+UMTS(2100+900). and Auto. I think my last experia might have had auto for all of those too. Anyway with those only two options working, I still get the E icon. Even tried setting aeroplane mode on and then off to see if it might register, but it didn't.

I see , Telstra is one of very few networks that use 850 for WCDMA so they might be using a different RADIO ROM than the rest of us
I saw in the thread below that there is a TELSTRA AUSTRALIA (1.03.841.8) R2AA008 version..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=477801&highlight=telstra
you probably need to flash that one to get the 3G working on telstra..
3 is using the normal 2100 so you could also try with their SIM just to check that there is nothing wrong with your hardware..
Sorry for the late reply.
I have realised that i'm in an area that doesn't support 3g. however my last xperia phone which I brought from telstra was the x1a, which had the next g network - hence I got the 3g symbol. However I have found that that I have the x1i, which doesn't list that network. I rang up telstra, and they transferred me to the sony erricson call centre, and they said you can try and do an update but it is not gaurenteed to get the next g service. I have already flashed a htc rom and don't particluarly want to change it back, unless i'm certain that I will get the next g service.
With the rom you have provided, do you think it will have the UMTS 850 band on there, and my x1i would be able to connect to it? I would have thought that it would be a hardware preference, not a software. In which case, even if I updated the rom because there is say no "chip" that allows for connecting to that band, it wont connec to it even though I may have selected the 850 UMTS band.
Sorry if that seems all over the place, but yeah... I'm not sure.
I just received my Nexus One which I ordered through the Google Developer program (Brightstarcorp) and I'm not able to get it working with the Bell Mobility network for either voice or data
I have a signal bars on my N1 with a Bell Mobility SIM card but it dosen’t works.
When I slide down the notification bar it say "Bell" and try this to get it working.
I have tried all solutions and have the recommended settings on the phone (also running Froyo 2.2.1-Build number : FRG83).
- I tried my SIM to another Bell phone and it works.
- I tried another Bell SIM in my N1 and it did not work.
- I'm using an active data plan card not a prepaid card.
But it works with Rogers or Fido
I tried the following :
1.Go to Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Network Operators: after about 1 minute I see network the currently available Bell
I click on Bell and see a signal not working.
2. Go to the dialer and type in *#*#4636#*#* this bring a hidden menu
3. tap on "Phone Information" It list the current network as Bell and also showing the IMEI and the Phone number. The IMEI and phone number are correct.
4. Hit the menu button and press "Select radio band" and click on "Automatic" .
5. Still not working I make sure radio band is set to "Automatic" then go back to the previous screen and scroll all the way to the bottom. Click under "set preferred network type" and choose through until I find one that works 1. WCDMA preffered or WCDMA only or GSM auto (PRL) it takes a few seconds from the time I click until the settings take place, just watch the signal bar at the top of the screen until it changes. Even try the "unknown" network type at the bottom of the list if the others don't work.
All the above fails.
For those of you out there who have successfully activated the Nexus One on the Bell network could you let me know which version of the phone you have.
Thanks for your suggestions.
well i am sorry to say but i dont think that the phone will work with Bell. the dev phones as far as i know are all AWS. so the only way it is going to work is if you get a rogers sim and use it on edge or a wind/moblicity sim and you can use 3G. bell does not have an edge network to back up on.
That's true. Bell/Telus has only the 3g network. The developer phone will not work. It will use edge/2g on Rogers/Fido. And will be fully supported on Wind or Mobilicity.
Nexus One with a Bell Mobility it dosen’t works!!
About Videotron?
Thanks
So I've had this phone for almost a week now and I used to he able to get 4g LTE. But ever since I rooted it, I no longer get more than 3g. I now have bananacakes Holiraider 1.6 but I still don't get any higher than 3g. So my question is how do I get 4g and 4g lte. Oh and if anyone is using that custom Rom, is it possible to get faster than 1512? In his thread it shows you can clock it to 1566. Thanks a bunch I'm kinda new to this!
try dialing *#*#4636#*#* and see what your modem is set to, it should be GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto
you also may have an APN issue, verifiy that your APN is correct, perhaps contact your carrier for the correct APN settings for you phone and plan.
Well I'm now running a custom ROM. The apn is the same as other users and it does say the above. And yes I am in a 4G LTE area
Sent from my HTC Raider X710e using XDA App
Try doing the above and change to LTE only.
Then once you have 4G change it back. It should stay on 4G. I had to do this to get 4G on official rom.
Ok I just tried that but it wouldn't let me to switch it to LTE only. When I did, it switched it back to GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto. I'm just gonna relock my phone and set it back to the original stock rom and format my phone (yes I have the apps and stuff backed up). Because my actual mobile connection fluctuates on and off as well
the phone should be locked into the GSM/WCDMA/LTE setting. If you try to change it from that setting it just returns back. The phone will get instructions from the carrier's base station to tell it whether to be on LTE or just 4G/3G. Using *#*#4636#*#* under phone information, what is listed as the Network type?

It is locked in GSM/WCDM/LTE auto.
above that option it should tell you the network type. it is about half way between the "run ping test" button and the "Set Preferred Network type" option. Need to know what it says there.
Oh ok I see what you mean, it says HSDPA
make sure that you are in a active LTE area. toggle the radio off and on. the network type should change to LTE if it is available. remember that if you make a phone call your phone will drop back to just 4g/3g and it might take a second for it to switch back to LTE.
I live in Los Angeles so I'm like in the center of the LTE center in Southern California. But for some reason my phone won't get anything higher than 3G, and my actual cellphone reception toggles on and off randomly too.
It worked before. For the first 3 days atleast. And now all of the sudden it wouldn't work, so I rooted it and installed a custom ROM
Try one of WildChilds custom ROMS. LTE works on both and they're tailored to US users.

if the problem arised before you rooted and rom'd the phone I doubt the rom is the problem. there is always the chance that you have a bad radio.

That's what I'm thinking... What would I do about this?
i would verify your sim with another 4gLTE phone and vice versa.
Hrm... So it could be a Sim card problem eh? Unfortunately there are no other LTE devices for me to get a hold of... Would this be the only way?
it could be. i hope you have pulled battery/sim and then rebooted already. you can verify your phone with a known good sim and verify your sim with a known good phone. I would try your local at&t store. they might be able to help.

I have done it many times . Yeah I'm actually going to head over to the at&t store in a few minutes, I'll keep you posted. Thank you so much for your help! rft3ch!
I will be replacing my phone. I replaced the sim card and that wasn't the problem . The rep said that someone else came in with the same problem as well.
Hey Guys!
I'm from Argentina and I have bought (via Amazon) this amazing phone. It is the Developer Edition 32GB, XT1053. I think it runs the T-Mobile rom. I bought it because it is the global GSM version and its LTe bands works down here (same bands as US) well.
So far so good with this little and fast phone, but I was really surprised when i went on to check the preferred network types options, and found I only have 2 options: Automatic or 2G. There is no "3G/2G" option as I use to see in other phones. Normally you would expect 3 options here:
LTE (which includes 3G and 2G also), 3G (which includes 2G also) and just 2G.
Thing is, so far I don't mind this since Its cool to have it automatically, the phone will always try to find LTE and if not, 3G... and if not, 2G. The thing is, Argentina is currently setting up LTE over the country these days (yes, we suck), and in the future the operators 'might' charge an extra cost for using LTE instead of 3G, and that's what worries me... not having the option to limit the phone to 3G/2G was something I wasn't expecting and honestly I don't want to flash the phone to another rom, not at least in the near future.
Anyone knows if this "Automatic - 2G" setting is normal to see in this version ? Do you know if there's some kind of workaround to make it work under 3G/2G only in case I need to avoid LTE in the future for extra fees and so ?
Thanks for your help guys!
Edit: Forgot to mention, the phone came out with 4.4.3 but I upgraded it via OTA to 4.4.4 right away.
Yes the Automatic - 2G option is normal for the xt1053 retail stock. Android has hidden menu that gives more options tho.
Use this app to access hidden menu: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.snclabs.radioswitcher&hl=am
Scroll down to where it says set preferred network type and change to whatever you want. gsm only being 2g, wcdma only being 3g, and so on
If the setting doesn't stick after reboot you can try toggling data off then on after changing the setting. try a few times it will stick after reboot.

Thanks man! That app will be really helpful to me if it happens that the operators start charging extra fee for LTE use in the near future.
Btw, I don't understand that much all that names. What would be the options for having 3G and 2G ? Should it be "WCDMA preferred" ? (I guess that takes away LTE) I will not use it under 3G only since I will be without signal if I happen to run into a 2G zone. (yes, we still have a lot of 2G zones in this country )
Thanks!!!!
Hi Anyone know how to set 3G as preferred network? Apparently I need to do this to be able to place calls through Vodafone's Sure Signal box, but the only options I see are:
4G (preferred)/WCDMA/GSM
WCDMA Only
WCDMA (preferred)/GSM
I see to recall there might be a settings menu which can be dialled in on the keypad to change what's displayed in this list

No you don't have to change anything. I have a Sure Signal box and the phone automatically drops back to 3G when in the house and picks up 4G when outside. Setting your phone to 3G means you're limiting yourself to only 3G masts and there are less and less of them these days.
Just make sure you have set up the Sure Signal box correctly.
Turn your phone off and take the sim out. Register it on the suresignal via the vodafone website. Wait ten minutes. Put the sim back in the phone and turn it on. It will then connect to the SureSignal. I kid you not, these are the instructions I got from being on the phone to Vodafone tech support. (I couldn't get my phone to connect to my newly purchased SureSignal box).
If you've added your phone and it's not connected, then go back into the control panel on the vodafone website and delete your phone from the suresignal, wait ten minutes and then follow the instructions above.
Edit: the menu you're looking for can be found by typing *#*#7378423#*#* on your phone keypad, but I advise against messing with it.
