[Q] Phone cannot go in recovery mode - LG Optimus Black

Hi All,
My LG optimus p970 cannot able to go in recovery mode. I tried couple of options like key combination and also tried to boot into recovery from ROM manager application available on google play. Because of this i cannot able to load any custom ROM into my phone.
Please can anybody help me on this. I have all files regarding JB to install properly.
Regards,
Akshay

Which rom do you have installed on your phone?
Stock roms don't have any recovery out the box (both gingerbread and ICS). Plus, on stock ICS, using the key combo will wipe data imediatelly without asking.
First, you need to flash a patched v20 with cwm recovery.

Turn your device off. Take battery out. Put it back in, leave phone turned off. Hold (I think it was Vol UP) plug USB cable in and wait. Dont press anything else. Check my noob how to under unbrick.

[Q] Getting to recovery with samsung captivate

I'm trying to rom my brothers captivate for him I have used odin to put back to 2.1 and am at the point to reinstall update in recovery mode but it will not go in I have been trying for awhile holding both volume keys and power it on but it never goes to recovery just boots normal
What is the build number? Did you have the three button recovery before flashing back to 2.1? If not, you used the wrong package, you want the one with the three button fix.
Search for "how to use adb." Once you set it up plug in phone with development turned on and then run adv reboot recovery or download and it will get you there.

[Q] Stock Recovery

Hi guys ... i want/need enter into stock recovery. What's the key combinations i can access ?
Thanks for u help
Stock LG recoveries do a hard reset of your phone. No more user data, etc..
Sent from my LG-P500 using Tapatalk
There is no key combination to enter into recovery on stock rom of optimus black. You have to flash the mod for that.
However, removing your battery, and then by holding volume button UP, and plugging a usb cable -- you can enter into software download mode, which allow you to install another stock rom version you want in .kdz format.

How to downgrade from ICS to Gingerbread?

ICS is good..but i feel that in GB ROMs i had a better control over my phone and so i want to down grade to GB....
I tried with Odin 1.7...sadly my phone is event recognised :'( in the Odin.
and i just tried flashing the ROM from recovery options ..the phone ended up cursing me....
looking for options and fyi key combos doesnt work in my cappy so i cant get in the dwd mode ......i tried from ROM manager also..its not going in dwd mode.....
any and all help and suggestions appreciated ....
You need ODIN or Heimdall. If it isn't recognize then you either have the wrong drivers or you set it up wrong.
i have tried on both ( i wanted to format the whole phone so that i can go back to the froyo) nothing worked.drivers installed , i can use the USB on / off also..but both dont recognise the phone.....and neither does adb......it just waits for the device o respond
Did you do a Nandroid backup with CWM before you flashed ICS? If you did then just do a restore. It worked for me. I had backed up CM7 before I flashed ICS. I had to go back to CM7 before I could flash a different ICS Rom.

Think you need to odin first. Since stock runs on different partition.

No...not nandroid ..i use Titanium ..so didnt do nandroid..
You will have to figure out how to get your phone in download mode before Odin or ham. Will work to recover your phone. If you have flashed a different boot loader to your phone the button combo may have changed.
Default combo is hold up+down+ power. Other ones I've come across is down+ power for download mode.
Otherwise I would suggest a USB jig to get download mode quickly.
Once you have that then using Odin PDA slot with a stock froyo image should work.

yes..true...but thats the prob..i am not able to get the phone in to dwd mode....i have tried all things i can.....
You've even tried a jig to go into download mode?
That method is pretty much guaranteed to work.
If you don't think there is anything more to do then I would suggest checking out mobiletechvideos
He can do what might seem impossible.

Isolate your fingers from the resistors, black tape or something. Make sure you are using the correct pins and be patient. All else fails you can have one shipped in for $15.

I can vouch for Captivate:
Hold Vol up and down. Press power and keep it on til white AT&T splash screen appears. Keep holding Vol Up and Down until CWM Recovery shows.
The same sequence for download but instead of Power On use USB cable insert into phone. Download appear much faster.
i can get in to the CWM options..but i cant get in to recovery..... even the AIO doesnt detect it..and so does the adb options....
You mean - you cannot get into download mode with Droid shoveling his own grave before fire squad?
yes.... even though i can give that options from other sources.i cannot get in to dwd mode..it alwasys boots in to recovery
your options are to either order a jig, send it out to josh, or
pull your battery
put it back in
do NOT turn on phone
hold volume up AND down at the same time
while holding both buttons insert the usb cable
continue to hold both volume buttons and wait for up to 10 seconds for download mode to activate
Guys,
I need some clarification. Im currently on GB but want to try ICS. I made a Nandroid backup of my phone. Now, if I wnat to downgrade from ICS to GB I can just restore the Nandroid? Or do I need first to go back to GB?
Can you guys give me the steps for this? OR will a simple Odin1click work to get me back to GB.
Thanks in advance and sorry if this was answered before, Im just a bit confused about the process.

Entering recovery mode

Long story short, i need to get to the Recovery Mode without using the hardware buttons.
My home button broke, i was trying to flash stock rom from pc odin (to sent it to warranty), and now i cannot setup my phone (i'am stuck at the welcome screen, some processes FC), maybe because i did not wipe data.
So, can i enter the recovery mode without the home button? Via abd commands?
I can only enter download mode as i do not need the home button.
Or, is there some way to wipe data / factory reset via download mode?
Flash simply wipe rom with pc odin.
But how can get.download mode without home button ?with jig?

I can't seem to find that.
No, pull the baterry, insert it, then connect my phone (while turned off) to the pc + volume down. Doesn't work with volume up tho
Find on post #3 of first link on my.signature, you can find some wipe ROM there.

That's odd, because that's the stock ROM i flashed ( N7000OXXLB3 ) .. But i think it did not wipe.
I will try to flash it again.
EDIT: Same thing, it seems to only format cache?
This is driving me nuts , am i screwed?
No, wipe.version.should wipe.data too.
Just confirm that rom is.wipe or not
Extract 1 step deep (to .tar) if you can see.data.img file is there, then only it is wipe rom.

Thanks, let me try another ROM .
Ok , i'am a little stupid, did not see the (WIPE VERSION) all around the names of the ROMS lol . I will choose one of them
if you just want to go to recovery mode.. minus your hardware button... no need for all the hassles....
look for an app in google play called quick reboot... it needs root though but when you tap on that app.. one of the options there is recovery... you can boot your phone on recovery just by installing and simply using that app and with your phone(rooted)
He has already use pc odin to flash rom, so naturally.won't have root, and juat doing for warranty purpose, so i don't think he.shud flash custom kernel to get root.with pc odin, as in defected device, you can't take chance to raise counter.

The thing is, i don't have access to the system, i'am stuck at the welcome screen.
I'm downloading a wipe ROM, i think it will be solved.
ok doc my bad... I missed some points there..
Forget to select csc?
Edit :Here its my bad, i thought above post was by op

You can enter recovery with adb...enable usb debugging, plug the phone and open a cmd as admin in the pc. Then type: adb reboot recovery...Done!!
See above, i did not have access to the system
But it is solved now, thanks,

[Q] N7000 won't boot, stuck on yellow exclamation mark model number boot screen

I tried rooting my N7000 with Odin 3.04 and hardcore-speedmod-ics-recovery-n7000.tar
It went through fine but now my phone won't boot. It's stuck on the model number screen and now has a yellow exclamation mark in a triangle.
I can get into the ClockWorkMod recovery menus but not into download mode (using volume down and plugging in micro USB).
I assume that when I get it back into download mode I can install the stock ROM or a custom ROM, and then it should work?
Found this similar thread but I don't understand how they resolved it

Any help would be appreciated, as I need to make some phone calls soon

Thanks guys.
For the benefit of future users:
So the default download mode is volume down and plugging into micro USB. With certain custom ROMs, it's Volume Down, Home and Power at the same time.
My problem was fixed by factory reset, loading the PhilZ kernel, then the stock ROM and the PhilZ kernel again to re-root, and then a Nandroid restore. I think the kernel I tried first was either incompatible or a bit dodgy.
Now to get CM!

Download mode on any ROM is volume down+power+home.
The Method of plugging in is just balderdash and won't do anything, please don't confuse people.

It's a Samsung feature and not rom related.

The problem is back.
Since last time, I flashed the stock Samsung rom and the PhilZ kernel. The phone was working fine but got noticeably slower over the course of a week. Then it got stuck on a phone call and had to be powered off. The phone goes into CWM menus and can backup/restore fine but I've tried restoring and it's stuck on the "Samsung Note GT-N7000" boot screen. It powers off after this screen.
I had noticed that the gallery app had stopped working and some system text had randomly changed to garbage text
I've tried re-loading the ROM and that hasn't done it. I also tried a system + boot recovery. Before doing these, the phone would go to the splash animation but get stuck on that.
Any help appreciated.
Boot back into philz recovery and format system, data, cache, preload from mounts and storage menu. This will clear traces of old ROM. Then boot to download from advanced menu and flash ROM using odin
