Bought my UK unbranded Galaxy S1 on day one of release. Rooted it and installed I9000XXJPH (then the best firmware available) to try fix the notorious GPS issue. It didn't. Also installed a "lag hack" to speed things up. I was left with a slow, crash happy phone and by the time better firmware was available, Busybox was telling me that it mysteriously no longer had root access!
And now I see there are 4.3 firmwares available, making me super jealous. Hell, I'd take the most recent stock over what I have now.
So how do I get root back on a once rooted phone?
Info from phone, if it helps...

First of all flash XXJVU official and its root. You
will surely get out of the problem.
Read my post in the below link. I tried to keep the
process easy as much as I could.

Hi all,
Tesco in the UK are selling the 7 inch Galaxy Tab for £149, down from £399, so had to buy one.
I'd like to root it but not sure if it is one of the rootable Tabs.
This is the information from About Device:
Model number: GT-P1000
Firmware version: 2.3.3
Baseband version: P1000XXJPZ
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7 [email protected] #2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XWJP9
In the Mobile network type it says HSDPA
Is this Tab rootable, and if so, which method should I use, and which files do I need to download?
Many thanks
Gaz
Hi Gaz.
I managed to get one last night from tesco too.
Just rooted it using the method on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=812367
Very easy.
Now I'm on the hunt for a decent custom rom, but need to install recovery first :s lol

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like you rooted it before updating the ROM to Gingerbread in kies. You would have been running the original Froyo ROM, which I believe the method above works for. I don't think it works with Gingerbread.
I don't want to install a custom ROM, just want more control for backing up, removing bloatware, etc.
Thanks
Gaz
You're right (sorry I had missed you had Gingerbread right out of the box). I rooted the stock Froyo version, then updated to Gingerbread via the Samsung Kies updater.
Then I re-reooted using the following:
http://www.review-ninja.com/2011/08/root-samsung-galaxy-tab-7-gingerbread.html
Very simple and works for GB ;-)
Thanks for the link. Nice to know it works. If it works on yours it should work on mine; I just wasn't sure which of Chainfire's kernels to download as he lists several here on XDA and none seemed to match my Tab. I'll give it a go.
Cheers
Gaz
That worked a treat.
Thanks for your help. Always safer to check before doing this as it would be embarrassing if I'd bricked a 1 day old Tab!
Great value at £149. Thank you Tesco!
Glad you're sorted
Yeh kinda impossible to take it back for an exchange if you brick it, seems like the stock is well and truly gone now.

@OP : You can Google for your stock rom. Shouldn't be hard. If you are planning to flash gapps , choose gapps for gingerbread.

I ended up using 5830i XXLA2 PDA XXLK1 MODEM and BTULK1 CSC Works fine with these!
I am hoping to secure an S2 from a friend when he upgrades next month so I am looking forward to AKOP or CM10 or some hybrid of them like P.A.C who knows but I have more experience in Android now and I can have some funky fun with the 5839i now xD Lost count how many times I have bricked it due to experiments while I learn!
Even managed to Format the EMMC to Ext4 and install a rom I cooken in dsixda kitchen and use latest kernel from our friend in Rio using the CWM version of the kernel. Next on my list is making a kernel.
I learn by breaking stuff and its fun normally fixing it.
No matter how messed up it can get I can always restore the stock fw from samfirmware or the custom frankenstien split pack I 'assembled' *cough*
Hey guys,
This is my first post on these forums. I have a stock Vodafone NZ Samsung Galaxy S i9000 and am wanting to root it and install CM9 on it but have no experience whatsoever with this sort of thing so a bit of help would be greatly appreciated.
I found this post on rooting a Galaxy S but had trouble trying to understand exactly what I was supposed to do and which file to download.
I'm hoping someone here wouldn't mind directing me to the right files and explain what exactly I'm supposed to do to root my phone and then install the new ROM?

Hey Guys,
I am new to rooting so please take that into account.
Basically what I am trying to do is to root my Samsung Galaxy Note in order to remove the limit of the amount of text messages that can be sent per hour.
I am following this tutorial on how to root it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2217840
Method 1, where you easily just download an app that roots it, does not work for me - this error comes up: FAILURE: Could not root device
Method 2, which is where you download the kernel based on your ROM is what I am now trying to do.
However the link it provides to download the roms from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191
Does not appear to have my ROM/Kernel. Please help me out.
This is some information about my device:
Model Number: GT-N7000
Android Version: 4.1.2
Baseband version: N7000XXLT3
Kernel Version: 3.0.31-1103517
Build Number: JZO54K.N7000XXLT9
Not really sure how to do this. Please advise. Nothing for XXLT3 or XXLT9.
Thanks in advance,

Google for philz kernel and download the one matching with your baseband, if not under one link try to find other link under philz kernel as there has been so many updates for the kernel.

What problem? Flash philz kernel .zip version from stock recovery, use the one matching your build number which is XXLT9.
