Took my Nexus 5 apart this morning to get rid of the power button rattle, and had a look at the battery. The connection for this one and the LG G2 are identical, just on opposite sides (Nexus on the right, G2 on the left). However, after checking ebay for a G2 battery I noticed that although the connection is on the left, it is coming up from the underneath (see pic). If they are the same size-ish, does anyone think it would be possible to buy a G2 battery, simply flip it over so the flex has a little more play in it, then attach it to the logic board? It seems do-able, if the flex permits it and they're of a similar height and width. Anyone got N5 and a G2 that fancy's taking them apart?

How did you remove the rattle in the power button did you identify something that is easily fixed

There is a gap (extremely tiny) in between the ceramic power button and the micro-switch inside. I took out the logic board then rested a tiny square of normal paper (about 2mm x 2mm) on the inside of the button. Carefully put the logic board back in so as not to knock the paper from it's place, put the phone back together and the rattle has gone, plus the button has a more firm click

Can't this just be done by sliding a bit of paper at the side of the button without taking the device apart?
I have the same problem and the rattling is doing my head in.

I tried that originally and the gap is too small. My next idea was to pad the area out with cotton wool, and although that worked it made the power button pretty stiff. Once you have the back of the phone off the rest is really simple, there's 6 screws to take out, pop a plastic cover off, unclip about 3 flex cables and the board just lifts out. I can do it over again if you like and take photos so you can see how it's done?
This would be an amazing mod if you could somehow smash in a 3000mah battery, although I highly doubt it would fit.

They look similar in size though, and even if the G2 battery is thicker then I'll quite happily peel off the wireless charging coil inside the back of my N5 to make room. If, once the G2 battery is flipped over and the flex peeled back a bit, there's room for it to fold over to meet the logic board then I don't see why it wouldn't work. Even if it doesn't reach, what's to stop someone getting the soldering iron out and flipping the whole flex the right way?
Has anyone got a G2 that can give me the battery dimensions?
Come to think of it, from what I've seen of batteries if you take away the little bar of charging circuitry then it's simply a block with a couple metal bits poking out. If the little bar was removed from a Nexus battery and fitted onto a G2 one then would it work as 3000 or will the charging circuit be programmed as 2300 max and so wouldn't charge it past that point?

Just ordered a G2 battery from eBay for £30. It's coming from the US though, can't find any here. As soon as it turns up I'll have a little play around

If it's a case of it being thicker that'll be easy enough to sort, if it's taller or wider then that may take some interesting bodging.
forget it, the G2 battery is 7mm longer as the N5 battery. There was already another thread here with exact battery sizes. No chance to get that in the N5 case

I can only tell you that clip is great because I used it from one of the car mounts on ebay. But can't comment on how rigid/flexible that neck-stand going to be. Keep in mind, N2 is not that heavy, but once you add a case (like Defender) and/or something like ZL battery or another extended battery, it will add up.
I saw some of these on eBay. Can't see the link since it's blocked at work. But it's a flex tube. I might make something myself and test it out.
I dropped my Note II with Sweet Armor case on my face last night. Not cool.
I think i will order one as soon as possible but with a ZL battery i doubt it will work.

As I was laying in bed last night watching a movie on the little screen (so not to disturb the mrs) I was thinking I need one of these!
I have two of these on my bunk bed/desk, the arms are not as long as they have in the ebay picture (photoshopped obviously), and not very strong, if you have zero lemon on your note 2, you'll have to do a loop, otherwise it will bend a bit. I have usb cable zip tied to them.
You have to curl them at least half a circle, or they wont' stay up, and you'll have to put some rubber under the clip.
Watching movie and video is fine if you sleeping in your bed, but you want be able to surf the internet play game because your arm will get tired after 2 or 3 mins and also because it's so wobbly.

Sup ladies/guys, today I present to you a wrist strap solution. If you are like me and don't like to put cases/covers on your phone and wish every phone had a wrist strap cling, like older phones used to have, then I have a solution for you. I have done this since I got my N5. I never like to put cases on my phone because I believe a phone is sexy, well certain phones. HTC makes the sexiest phones, in my opinion. See pictures below please.
Instructions: Take a thick needle that you can have a good grib on. A nail might work too. You might want to mark with a marker/pen where you want to place the two holes. With the needle start to wind it back and forth, Sort of like like a motion where, as if you are tightening a screw. Careful you dont pierce your hands, lol. You might have to push a bit while trying to make the holes, this should penetrate the needle. You should make the two holes vertical, unless u want them to be horizontal.
That poor thing...
Why???
Just get the REARTH's Ringke Fusion. It already comes with wrist strap slots.

Charging port won't be touched because you would have remove the cover to put the holes =).
I didn't say anything about the charger port. The wireless inductive charging coil is on the back side of the back cover.
If you poke a hole (or 2 for that matter) in the wrong spot; there goes your wireless charging. Plus...I highly doubt neither Google nor LG will honor a warranty claim if you deliberately punched holes in the back of the phone.

I went to AT&T to try out the S5.
Overall a very nice phone however the one thing that I think will annoy the hell out of me is having to fiddle with that flap every time it's time to charge the phone.
I found it really hard to open and after a few tries I managed to get my finger nail under the slight lip but it was not very comfortable to do.
How are the rest of yo owners finding the handling of this flap?
I will be using a robust case for mine so wireless charging is out for me.
I heard back from both Spigen and Case-Mate who both said that it's unlikely charging would work through their cases and that's assuming the phone will still fit with the slightly larger charging back.

That's the only thing that I find annoying about the S5. I understand it needs to be covered for water/dust resistance, but it's still incredibly annoying. I have short nails (stupid nail-biting habit) so trying to open it is always a chore. I've actually resorted to using a small thumb-tac (lol) to open it and it works perfectly every time.
I'll definitely be looking at wireless charging options once they're readily available. I rarely use a case on my S5, just because I like how it feels in the hand without one, so the different back shouldn't be an issue.
I like knowing that dirt, dust and curious little kid fingers won't be able to affect the port. I have an otterbox that has a decent opening to allow for charging, been using it all day and its around 55% batt, so I'll be okay with the cover.
I have the spigen tough armor case and I can charge the phone with no problem. It's a minor inconvenience but it's worth having the peace of mind against getting water damage.

I think the flap is the unfortunate, necessary evil for the water/dust proofing feature of the phone. I am not a fan of it either but it is what it is.

I've been using a QI wireless charging pad for a couple of weeks without any problem. As another user posted, the only effect I've noticed is a slight bulge in the back panel. It doesn't get especially hot (although it does warm a little more than with USB charging.)
The only other thing is that I've got a wallet case on my phone and charge through that (so there's some plastic between the phone and charging plate.)
I have the expower ultra thin card and in the instructions it tells you to remove the copper screening sticker from inside the original back plate as it causes extra heat when charging. Its a ***** to peel off as well. Gets warm but not enough to bend my phone by any means and it charges fine through my defender case there's no noticeable bulge in the back plate either. If i want to put it in water i'll throw an otterbox preserver on it.

Well there is absolutely nothing wrong with the performance of this machine. It would just make me feel better knowing that I have a new motor under the hood, feel me..So what is you're opinion what would you do.

You don't need a new motherboard, but a new battery will make your phone new again!

This is the battery I used and I'm very happy with it's performance.
Getting the back off the phone is pretty easy if you use a hot water bottle to warm the back for about ten minutes first. It helps soften the glue holding the back on. Use a magnifying glass to ensure your torx bit fits properly, and that you are holding it inline with the screw head. If it is tilted, you are likely to strip the screw.
Replacing the main board holder will make the process even easier. You'll need a *good* #3 (some phones need a #4) torx bit. Using the cheap ones that come with replacement parts will likely strip the screw heads. I use this set.

Yes , thank you for the link! I usually use a hair dryer to loosen the glue and its much faster, I'm careful not to get the back to hot though. Thank you for you're advice!
