got this weird thing with the Xperia T, at first I thought it was deliberate effect but now not so sure. Basically when going from a dark screen to a white screen, say the messaging app or facebook the screen is really white like there's a semi transparent sheet on top, (similar to the high contrast you get when you look at the phone off angle) it then blends away to the normal screen.
I don't really get this, does it happen to anyone else?
cheers
Yes, it's a feature. You can turn it off by modifying build.prop, but I'm not sure anymore which variable you need to change.

Are you sure? what a strange feature haha
Disable Dynamic Luminance Scaling, as @peetr_ sugested here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34874453&postcount=151
That annoying contrast effect will dissapear/be significantly reduced.
Note: there's no risk what so ever, those values seem to cause no damage or malfunction of the phone/screen :cyclops:
Cheers!

oled screens do have some burn in. amoled is supposed to reduce the appearance somewhat. how bad is it?
To start off i have looked up and searched but can't find an answer. I have images that seemed almost burned in like with old plasma TV. I've tried to stock, multi roms, kernels, and even TV out, but i keep getting phantom images. Mainly status bar and seems up to date times. I think it could be gpu but not shore. I've also tried under/over clock, live oc, and voltages. It also might help that screen shots don't show it but usually happens between app traditions and large color changes. Not to rant but if screen why carry over through tv out?

that is what i thought, but why be same through tv out and not screen shots?
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda premium
I think screen shots take a picture of what is supposed to be there, while tv out mirrors the actual screen...
carrying out through tv out is odd.
burn in is physical damage to the actual screen, and burn-in can happen on these screens, as colours die.

Hello, I am experiencing something word with my camera. I'm not really sure if we consider it a hardware problem or something. As you can see, there are purple lines that appear on my pictures.. Why is this? Second question, can I get my phone replaced because of this problem?
P.s. I used to experience this in my blackberry storm 1 after a few years. Attaching photos. 1 st photo was taken with my Note and the second was with my storm.

Do you notice the same banding effect on your phone if you use Gallery or browse the net? In low light conditions the striped effect has been reported by many other Note users - search for "banding" and you'll see what I mean
I do notice the effect but only when in low light - if the screen is set to higher brightness the banding effect goes away. So maybe it is not camera related but more to do with the screen?

Okay, I'll read up on banding later on. I tried turning up the brightness on full and took a test shot and still, there were those lines. I kind of noticed that this banding happens more for whites than low lighting conditions.
Thanks by the way!

Simple test would also be to transfer the photo to your PC and see if it shows banding there? (I am probably wrong but assuming you used screenshot feature of Note to take screen captures?)
PS - don't just say it - hit the Thanks button
Sorry I'm new here. there you go.
Anyway I'm not yet home so have no access yet to my PC. Got to chat and show what's wrong with a photographer friend. he told me that this is a common problem due to the fluorescent light. True enough,I tried some low light shots under a different light bulb and no banding. I was quite convinced and so I'll continue trying to do tests.

Hi all
I have done a little searching the last week to find apps which have been modified to be dark. The reason is that with our lovely AMOLED displays chewing 60% of power and unlike LCD displays, only the colour pixels chew power. Pure black requires no power so the darker the screen the less power it will use.
Being able to invert white to black on web pages would be handy. And other apps like eBay doing the same would also save a lot.
I figure we'd save about 20% of battery doing this.
Are there any places to find such modified apps?

Search about justun bean inverted Gapps here on xda. It's a packet of some apk (Gapps also) blacked.... It's not sure they will work with your rom, so before to install them (by recovery) do a nandroid backup!
The only app I miss until now, is a blacked Facebook messenger

The problem with this device is that the darker the application is, the more black clipping we'll notice.

Nah, you can see the black clipping issue only if you watch a video. I used a lot of times totally dark rom (like asylumPhoenix) with totally dark app (like justun). There wasn't any sign of black clipping
I just noticed it during a video (mostly) or watching a particular pic (rarely)
Well when i use aosp based JB roms and i pull out the notifications, the blackclipping gets very noticeable and annoying. Anyway, my device's blackclipping is beyond usual limits so i'm taking it to the service.
So I ' am an owner of Sony Xperia Z and there are some threads about this theme but nothink straight said.I would be grateful when someone
could tell me if I use pure blackscreen wallpaper or just the darker theme is it going to affect the battery? In a positive way. Looking foward
for šime helpful answers thanks, also if anyone knows good battery saver app would be great when you could share link or name. Thanks.
Dark themes are useful for amoled display that's what i know.

A dark colored theme or a pure black wallpaper won't save battery. In an LCD screen, the backlight consumes the most power (to my knowledge).so whether its black white blue red it should be the same. In an amoled display the battery gain is sizeable.
What will save battery life is screen brightness..so try keeping it lower as that makes a huge difference..
I use battery guru by Qualcomm(Xperia Z's chipset manufacturer), I don't have figures to quote but it increased my battery life by a lot since I have been using it..and it's icon can be hidden and it's very simple to use..and doesn't annoy with spam.

Okay I download that guru by Qualcomm and I got interested in it never heard of it but I got dissapointed the fact it has to know my location for
3days and I gotta have wifi enabled all that time than he actually starts saving battery I don't think I'll
Stick with it

No that never happened with me.:S
Just switch WiFi off, it's ridiculous if the app is asking for that :/
It's has the manage wifi feature which automagically switches from 3g to wifi say when you reach home.
But you can always manually turn wifi off.
Infact I turned that feature off.
Here's screenshots of my settings.
