[Q] Galaxy Nexus -> Moto X (tethering) question - Moto X Q&A

OK, I just got myself Moto X (16GB) and I'm coming from Galaxy Nexus.
I had to go and pay full price for a phone so I don't lose my unlimited data plan, now my goal is to be able to tether off of it), while using my Galaxy Nexus I had https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fattin.togglewidget.hotspot that I installed from Google Play that allowed me to enable tethering ... unfortunately that doesn't work w/ MotoX(
Is there any easy way like this widget to get to tethering (w/out root)?

ClockworkMod tether may work, I did the same thing as u actually... toro to Moto X full price to keep unlimited. I rooted mine and put safestrap on it and I love it to death, even a patch for native wifi tether to work bypassing the check here on xda. For what it's worth you can always RSD back to stock if you don't like it rooted or need to return it.

How come RockMyMoto instead of PwnMyMoto? PwnMyMoto seems like easier to do (I've tried it and couldn't get it work due to an error inside of ZIP)

[Q] How do I proceed now that I've rooted?

I've followed a root guide (not able to link due to account restrictions), however I am not sure whether I have rooted correctly (Superuser has been installed via the root). I'm a beginner in rooting and thought it would be straight forward (due to the number of tutorials around), but I don't know how to proceed now.
My basic objective is to install jelly bean with no issues in usage as the owner isn't very tech literate. The tutorials I have tried to follow thus far have had some steps which aren't possible in my circumstance or certain steps which aren't possible due to a change in the app.
If possible I will appreciate it if someone helps me, whether here, or on skype/teamspeak; preferably on the latters as it will speed up the process and I am quite time restricted. If possible I don't mind completely resetting the kindle to its original software and such and starting again just to be sure If I have rooted, but I don't know how to do that.
Thanks in advance
Details: [Rooted?] Kindle fire HD running 7.3.1 software; Model X43Z60

Thats to Root; I've already rooted (assuming from the video when it says you can see the superuser app)
Well if you have rooted right go to your browser and search for an app called Root Checker. It does not require root. It checks to see if your rooted right. If you are not rooted right the app will say so but if you are rooted right you get a message saying "You have successfully rooted your device." Hope I helped you.

Titanium says I have rooted. Ok, what do I do now as per my requirements above?
Thanks
Ok, I've now installed the play store and disabled ads using this VERY useful tutorial (thanks prok!). Is there a similar tutorial on how to install jelly bean on it now?
Well the best rom out there right now is Unofficial CM10.1 from Hashcode. Yes, you could install a different one but Unofficial CM10.1 is currently the best in my opinion.

You will receive them if you are on rooted stock lollipop , but you will not be able to apply them

At least if you come from 4.4.4, applying updates works fine on a rooted system. I did the update to lollipop on a rooted system. The first try failed, because Paragon and adaway were installed and build.prop was modified.
After I uninstalled the two system-modifying apps and restored the backup of build.prop everything went fine. Although SuperSU was installed and working fine.
General rule of thumb: Any modification of startup (init.d etc.) or/system folder lets the upgrade fail. That is how it was on the S3 which I used before, and it seems to be the same for Moto G 2014 (xt1068).
Please correct me if the preconditions changed with Lollipop, but it is a very common although wrong assumption that root prevents updates. Probably because everyone has adaway installed
So if i make root, i will receive new updates normally?
Is the same thing to the moto g 2013?

does the verizon nexus 6 need special treatment?

Does a nexus 6 on verizon need to have a special stock rom than a nexus 6 on att or tmobile? I bought a nexus 6(presumably most recent build 5.1.1) from google play and just want to stick a verizon sim into it. Do I have to flash a verizon nexus 6 stock file into it in order to make it work?
Similarly, is there any difficultly getting roms such as Chroma to work with verizon?
I believe LMY47E is the Verizon version.
It doesn't matter.....I have a att nexus on Verizon ...I flash everything and even ran the m preview
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
You don't need to flash anything. I'm running a nexus 6 on Verizon that is from Google Play.
If you want VoLTE to work properly, you'll need to receive the Verizon OTA

I flashed the E ROM and everything worked perfectly. Volte was enabled from the first boot. Granted, I had already added HD voice, advanced calling, whatever, to my account prior to flashing. HD voice is scary clear and detailed.

No. Some ROMs yes but, mostly no.

LMY47Z works perfectly on verizon, including volte.
If you want the Verizon bloatware flash LMY47E.

VZW XT1060 DevEd: On Krypton 1.4, not official ROM...

I have VZW Moto X XT1060 Developer Edition with 4.4.4. I thought it was on standard factory ROM, but apparently it was on Krypton 1.4 and obviously, no OTA for me!
As this is my daily driver, I can't really take it completely out of service for extended periods. I had this phone pretty dialed in with Xposed and all the rest, but I imagine I'll have to nuke everything and start over with Xposed L.
I did install TWRP but it's mainly to do a backup with OTG microSD adapter.
Any recommended course of action?

In the same exact boat bro, business has to continue. As of now and probably for the next week I'll stick to my daily driver. Running debloated stock 4.4.4 via Titanium Backup with xposed tweaked to my fancy.
It's only a matter of time till we get our hands on a flashable Zip

Where do I find xposed for Lollipop? After finding this and following instructions it led me to believe its the "..sdk22-arm.zip" Is this the correct installer?

Yes, use the sdk22 (that's Lollipop) and arm which is the CPU in the Moto X.
FYI, sdk23 is Marshmallow.
I have the factory 5.1.1 5.1 all dialed in now with Xposed and other modules, rooted and everything, of course. Haven't decided if I want to play with ROM themes yet, as I prefer a dark theme over a light one.

What did you flash to get 5.1.1? I thought the factory version was stuck at 5.1 and that the only 5.1.1 options were third-party ROMs like OctOS and AICP. My wife's phone is in a similar predicament, it's running Krypton 4.4.4 right now and I want to get it running Lollipop, I was thinking of this stock ZIP.

FYI @Jacquestrapp I had manually flash the modem using ADB and MFASTBOOT. I'm currently on the debloated 5.1 and its working well. Expect to wait a few minutes on the first boot up after flashing ROM

here are my two recommendations for LP:
custom: NeXus Experience
pros:
- can install a custom kernel
- contains privacy features so that you can block wake locks, etc
- no need for xposed as all tweaks/mods are already built in
- best battery life
- developer is currently working on a build for 6.0
cons:
- Active moto display will not work (but ambient display works just fine)
stock: Stock
pros:
- most reliable
- moto active display works
cons:
- need xposed to get personal tweaks
- xposed & Gravity box still have some issues (but working for me)
- still some bloat in the debloated version, but that can be adjusted
overall, both are fine. bluetooth works fine on both (in both my car and watch)
I've used both, but keep coming back to NeXus

AT&T SGS5 4.4.2 KK stock ROM WiFi (Hotspot) Fix for Unlimited Data

I did nothing to write this fix.
I only found it.
I added Direct TV to my AT&T and got the unlimited data plan exclusive.
They locked my hot spot!
So I gladly rooted and followed the instructions on this site to install a mod with Xposed framework for KitKat Users to Enable the Hotspot!

Enjoy!
