How do you boot to recovery? I've had nothing but HTC and Samsung and I have to admit this Sony and it's button combinations are throwing me a little bit.
Now i know it's a button combination of power and probably up, but when i hold power and up nothing happens, so what exactly is it?
Funnily enough, throughout all the tutorials I've been unable to find out exactly what it is you have to hold.
I am rooted, with a custom recovery and a custom rom by the way, i used ADB to get to it previously.
Cheers.
If you installed dualrecovery for LB you need to restart phone and wait phone green led and vibration just then press vol up for CMW and vol down for TWRP and thats all. By the way wrong section for this Q/A.

That's overly complicated. You reboot the phone (Or turn it off and back on normally) and wait for the vibration, then press and release and press and release repeatedly the volume up button for CMW or volume down button for TWRP.
If you have xposed framework installed and the advanced power menu module you can also reboot directly into CMW.

Yes, apps don't work because they try to boot into a stock recovery. Sony phones do not have stock. Try the xposed framework if you are rooted, its very good for adding tweaks and mods and does so much more than just the advanced power menu

Aye i was looking for a 32GB nexus and it's not a slouch either, very quick handset, but the Z1 won me over, closely followed by the G2 (which is seeing a fair bit of development at the moment) I'm more than happy with the Z1 now, it's battery wit stamina mode is insane, it just doesn't die and for the first time i'm using 4G which for the most part is really quick.
Just need to get some dev's in now and get the party started.

You're right about stamina mode mate it is amazing my mates couldn't believe battery life till I showed them
As soon as the bootloader can be unlocked without breaking the camera that's when you'll see loads more activity
Tried xposed as suggested by gregbradley and got 4way reboot back so I'm happy again
All in all I'm glad i went for the z1 it really is much better than the s4 or the HTC One

well, i read all the time how nexus devices are unbrickable and maybe (hopefully) im wrong! so i been running stock rom rooted for a few days actually since yesterday i flashed back to stock and rooted only and flashed cwm recovery thats it. today (actually just a little while ago) i was messing around and was running antutu benchmark with stock then i flashed franco r53 kernel using his auto flash method in his app. no sooner that i started the test in antutu phone went completely black. will not respond to anything. so i said well maybe i can connect usb and get it to go into fastboot so i got lucky (or so i thought) soon as i plugged it in i saw red light at the bottom and battery charging icon. so i press power and volume down and was able to get into fastboot, i was kinda happy about this. i flashed back to stock wiped everything first wipe boot wipe cache wipe recovery wipe system flash bootloader reboot bootloader and flashed the system img and boot img and all that went thru succesfully. but it still will not boot it goes in and out red light battery icon google image. so i tried again flash stock images locked bootloader and fastboot reboot nothing i unplug usb goes straight black screen and wont respond. plug back in get red light and battery icon in and out back and forth between icon and black screen with red light. so i know allot of people get complacent in thinking that because you have a nexus you cannot brick but it is possible to brick this phone. or maybe someone can tell me im wrong. lol anyways just posting this here for people to think twice and not get so comfortable thinking you cannot brick a nexus. tommorow ill take the phone to t-mobile and get another one. and no i wont tell them it was my fault! If it's easy to take back do it. However couple of folks have got it fixed by opening the backplate and disconnecting/reconnecting battery terminals.
Almost 90%+ people having this issue were running Antutu.
Why would you think its a good idea to flash a custom kernel on to stock?
There are tons of threads about this, do some searching your phone is not bricked, also to the poster above me there is nothing wrong with flashing a custom kernel over stock.

Actually that is incorrect, it is not okay. Most Devs will post comparable kernels, or flash your own kernel on to this rom at your own risk on every rom thread op. Stock only supports its own kernel, so while some kernels might work as a stock replacement kernel, it is never a good idea to flash a custom kernel on to a stock rom unless the Dev says otherwise.
This for the help. I'll try this tomorrow morning. Of course I tab a search bit could not find the threads. I hit red light and it took me to legacy phone. I type brick in search fort n4 and nothing. So I never saw those threads about this issue. So thanks. And ive never had a problem with running custom kernels on stock ROM. Never! Lol
Any ways thanks for help! Can moderator close this thread please! Thanks!

Franco R53 is fine on stock - running it here with minimal other changes (I.e. root + email security policy hack)
I've updated every Franco kernel and all seen OK. Perhaps the benchmark related hardware failure is worth looking closely at.
FWIW, if you're back to stock, lock the bootloader and send it back as it sounds hardware to me.

:sigh: No. Franco says his kernel supports the stock ROM. In fact, stock is the standard to test a kernel on. Unless a ROM is created with very specific additions that rely on a custom ramdisk to function, there is nothing wrong with it. Even then, it's not really wrong, you'll just have some missing features.
Charge your phone?

This happened to me, except I was bone stock. You need to hold down all 3 buttons at the same time; several times, and then try to get into the bootloader. That's what worked for me. Once you're in the bootloader you can flash the stock image(s) via fastboot.

- Keeps the screen on if its senses that it's been held in hands (minor tremors).

Thanks so much for this app!
That's exactly what i was looking for!
ProximityScreenOff is similar but has less options and thus uses probably less battery.
I'm using it for about a week now and it works flawlessly. I just have to remember not to use the power button.
Slide2wake across the screen to wake the phone would be even better like I had with my S2 but it required a custom kernel.

It's not so hard to do but it'll kill our battery.
I noticed great battery life on Sony ROM, stock ROM with no change at all but as soon as I change few things, MOD few apps or apply few MODs (notification bar...) battery life is seriously damaged.
You can only imagine what battery life would we have on custom kernel with lossy optimised "knock" function?!
I'm sure, if there's way and need for this feature - Sony will add it in the first place.
They realised battery life wouldn't be good enough and that's the reason they skip that - they obviously know how to do that

With a right kernel I'm sure it won't.
I just said it's probably problem with battery consumption and that's why Sony skipped that.
When you have quead core device with big screen you must pay attention to all apps and details because one by one (app of feature) and you will quickly have device that drains too much power.
I would like to believe that was the reason
But I would surely like to have that, that's awesome feature...

Indeed is my favorite feature on my tablet Z.
I am only speculating but a lot of people don't want to invest time on those ports. Takes time and then you have to support it
Sendt fra min XPERIA Z1 6903
It should be kernel supposed so someone should port kernel from different device - even it's Sony and it's from Z series - it's not that easy to do that.
But I can't understand why Sony don't want to include that feature in Z1 firmware/kernel?!
If it's working good on Z tables can't see a reason not to add that to Z1?!
Maybe Sony suprise us with Touch to wake in KitKat...
HTC just announced that they will release Kitkat for One in the next 30 days so maybe Sony really skip 4.3 and release 4.4 right away...

Guys i have this double tap to wake on my unlocked BL XZ! Working pretty great and awesome.. It is kernel related.i can't see any reasons why this can't be ported to Z1.might as well ask Doomlord for this..he is really good at things like these..
really would like this feature on my z1!!
i would love to have this in Z1 too, i love the function on my Tablet Z
Would love this :good:
I made this post to let everyone share his impression about the long waited android 4.3 To our beloved phones T/TX/V
share your thoughts =)
and Gratz lets w8 for our last hope the Kitkat =D

First we won't get kitkat and in March our 18 months are over and Sony has yet made it to get itself out of having to give us kitkat...
Now 4.3. I don't know I expected more. SP got the gloves mode for example and I don't know whether it is just the Vodafone version why aren't we getting an update center?
The cam looks good but lacks of functionality, for example the tap to focus and make picture is gone and the auto mode being chosen every time I open the app is not really optimal.
The lockscreen is a bit rudimentary but we all knew that before yes we got widgets but honestly what do they offer if I have to watch out not opening Walkman or when swiping left and right. Better optional app buttons and to have them on the lower screen half.
Then the Docomo status bar better than what we had before but definitely many steps behind other uis in that case.
Worst for me is that the buttons for navigation are almost third of the screen... Would it kill Sony to make that customizable?
My main parts I'm not yet updating and waiting for the modders to do their best
My Impression
It snappy ,looks nice ram usages is poor I don't know about battery life yet , sound quality seems to be enhanced :louder ,deeper bass, higher treble all round improvement P.S. for those who don't know first start up will be a tad laggy
Rep
It feels much faster than 4.1.2. I love the lockscreen and the design

Yep, and that for a completely stripped down version, with no auto-background update of Google Services, and other unneeded items.

I took the share your thoughts part as invitation to share my thoughts on both subjects mentioned.
And I advise you to just let people have their opinion and if I needed to release my frustration over that subject respect that too. Otherwise get out of the internet as you'll get offended every second website you visit.

Your not the first one to complain about it I just want to hear about the update not about the one we're most likely not going to get that's a hole other thread.

Maybe no update centre is a hint that we will not get updated to kit kat?
Stamina mode and camera
- Stamina mode looks like its 2 versions back. It lacks of customization which is in SP and Z series. Besides the (inaccurate) timer there is nothing new. That mode was previously in 4.1.2 just now it looks better.
- Camera - first impression is that it makes better pictures in low light conditions but I cant find settings in menu for resolution and quality - itll be nice if someone tell me where it is.

I didn't know about this. I rely on tap to focus (as someone who knows absolutely nothing about taking a good picture)

I passionately hate the current Xperia lock screen. While I like using other lockscreens, sometimes the default lock screen over-rides it anyway, I think when memory is low. I know I can use a pin, pattern, etc, but I want to be able to look at my phone for a very few short seconds without all the fiddling. Worst Xperia lock screen yet. Even the X10 lock screen was better.

I'm glad this is present, my partner's SP has had it since updating to 4.1 and I've always been a little envious
Bit disappointed Walkman doesn't have music unlimited built in. It's the one thing I was waiting for

It doesn't?? Now that surprises me, considering the new walkman app is included in the feature list, and the new walkman app (at least for the SP) does have built in music unlimited :-/

You're most likely in Super auto mode... Got to switch to manual mode first and then enter the settings

There's something called over reading. Learn it, really will help you.
BTW I'm getting confused you're not the post maker why you think you can tell me what to write and what not to write?

Thanks! haven't noticed that
to me it seems a bit laggy compared to the .278 leaked version
i see a few bugs
First of all, what happened to the stock browser. is it android policy to pass to chrome in 4.3? I dont know about you, bt i dont feel any butter maybe the firmware still needs to get the hang of the device, vut for the moment it feels a bit laggy. Most important: What the hell happened to the volume bar?! i press the volume keys and ony a small grey rectengle appears, no indicator of volume level, i can hear the beeps increassing volume but i dont see it, and if you are in an app like RR3 it doesnt work! anybody had the same problem?
