Hi Guys,
I bought this Samsung S advance phone by reading & believing it's spec that it will be best mid range phone. But after a week I realized that this is anyone of the worst phone in terms of performance... Too much lag for any activity on this phone, games lag like hell, phone dialer taken 10-15secs to open and what not...
Somewhere, I read that rooting a phone and installing new ROM and some flashing cards can improve the performance of this phone. I'm totally noob in terms of rooting and flashing a mobile. So I need some help.
Can anyone please suggest me, how to do rooting and installing best ROM(i read CyanogenMod is best rom) without missing out any phone features like...many said wifi not working or camera not working after installing ROM.
I know many people might have asked this question and there could be many threads floating around, but its too much confusion for a newbie to understand all this.
So I request any kind soul, please provide steps to do rooting and installing custom rom for a newbie.
Thanks in advance
Ohh..and by the way my phone specs. Samsung S advance

I keep this in notepad, to copy/paste.
1. ROOT. You need to use external SD card, because stock recovery can't use internal to install zip.
2. Download CoCore-E kernel, this onehttp://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2272049&d=1379752265.
3. Unpack zip, and copy kernel.bin.md5 to your phone
4. Install ES file explorer and Universal kernel flash - you can look on its thread if you do not find out how to use it - here. It is simple, tap on Select kernel, choose ES file explorer, find where kernel.bin.md5 is (you copy it, remember where was that), tap on flash kernel image, reboot.
5. Install No-frill CPU, open it and set Governor to PegasusQ and IO Sceduler to SIO.

CM10.2 needs JB 4.3 gapps, not 4.1.2. Make backup in recovery, in case you want to go back to stock.

Does CoCore cause the device to heat up a little?
The only way to improve S advance's performance is to downgrade to Gingerbread.

Is there any way to install the new released CyanogenMod or it is still something that we could dream of ?
Yes, download rom and
1. Copy zip on SD card
2. Flash FXP kernel
3. Run the CWM recovery (added in kernel)
4. Full wipe
5. Install rom
(If you have bootloop, make full wipe again)
Yes i was thinking about that and tried it! And guess what ... my phone didn't install it even trough xRecovery or CWM ...
and yes if you didn't understant for what i was asking ... i don't want to install the rom from the thread here in XDA ... i want to install the rom that is in the official site (which has kernel.sin in the zip folder which we can download)
Anyway thanks ... i know how to install the rom from the thread here
I was talking about official cyanogen release, install it with FXP kernel
it isn't working at all i tried it ... can you explain this step by step thanks !
I wrote it.
1. Copy zip on SD card
2. Flash FXP kernel
3. Run the CWM recovery (added in kernel) - Pressing buttons and touchscreen
4. Full wipe
5. Install rom - Install custom zip from SDcard
(If you have bootloop, make full wipe again)
Thanks again .... just one question only ... is the ZIP name ... update-cm-7.1.0-x8shakira or something like that ??? thanks
maybe my is update-cm-7.1.0-X8-signed
yes mine is also that named ... and there is a kernel.sin inside .... i made it in flashtool and now i'm gonna try it with that rom
do you know how to make from sin file tft?
Oh maaaaan!
CWM v5.0.2.3
(You can get in cwm recovery with the back button, not with touching the screen)
I am Installing...
Install from sdcard complete.
Do a fullwipe...
Booting cyanogen (mod)...
It's cool, but I have a question:
Where are the google apps?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=973753
Here in the 3-rd post are the apps ...
I have one question i can't install the ROM
the problem is (Status 7) and the name of the phone .... should i go back with SEUS to do the update .... ?
How to...
If you want to install the OFFICIAL CyanogenMod for our devices you should do this:
1. Get the official 2.1 android for our devices (With seus or UPDATE SERVICE)
2. Root your phone!!!
3. Of course unlocked bootloader for flashing the FXP030 kernel!
4. The update ZIP from the site!
5. Press any key to load into Recovery
6. Choose the ZIP
7. In third post in this thread ---> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=973753 ... download google apps and flash them!!!
8. Wipe everything (data,cache,dalvik,baterry)
9. Reboot and enjoy something really good!
P.S. Good luck !!!
After hour of testing:
Camera - only VGA
This rom is fast but very often it lags
Sound in call is low
Adw launcher lags much
This is the first OFFICIAL release .... so it is normal to have some kind of BUGS I think tommorrow we will have fully working CyanogenMod for Xperia X8 !!!
any bugs reported in cm7.1?

gdx is better right now...
Do we have to unlock the bootloader and kernel in order to install the official ROM?
I can tell you why it "lags"! It's because of UV. When freq is below 600mhz phone is undervolted. And it lags for 1.5 sec when you touch screen if it's in UV mode. Make and expiriment:
Set governor to Performance.
Compare between ondemand and performance governors.
See the difference!

Until now we all had to use LP1 Repack as a stepping-stone between Gingerbread and custom ICS Roms.
However, thanks to thechints, we have found an easier way to get to a fully rooted AOSP/AOKP/CM ICS from Gingerbread.
The following procedure was tested by thechints, vviz, abhisahara, and moi, and it works.
It was tested on Stunner and CM9, but could work for any ICS Rom that currently has "flash LP1 Repack" as one of the steps in its flashing instructions.
I emphasize the word 'could'. Give it a try and tell us what happened. The suggested method is safe insofar as it won't brick your device. You have a safe way back to GB via nAndroid backup or PC Odin if it fails.
The only tool that you need for the following procedure to work is AbyssNote 4.2 Kernel --> props to angelom and Chris X.
Get AbyssNote 4.2 kernel HERE.
Do not use earlier AbyssNote Kernel versions for the following procedure.
So, how to do it?
When on any rooted GB Rom:
First and foremost
Double- and triple-check if you have proper GB root!
Do not put faith in the fact that your Titanium Backup or some other root app works.
Do not use various root checkers from the Market.
Do that by trying to paste a file in /system folder -that's the only way for you to really know.
If you can do the pasting, you have root. If not, this thread is not for you.
I got several PMs from users who managed to achieve soft-bricks while still on GB. They tried to
flash AbyssNote kernel and got stuck. Do not let that happen to you.
After that:
1. download AbyssNote 4.2 kernel and place it on your internal/external SD Card
Also download the ICS Rom you want to install and put it on your SD card.
2. reboot to CWMR (press and hold volume up + home + power button) and do a backup of your current system
3. after your backup is done, stay in Recovery
4. go to install a zip from SD card --> select AbyssNote 4.2 zip and flash it
5. go back to CWMR's root menu --> advanced --> reboot recovery
6. you'll find yourself in AbyssNote's Touch Recovery (select options by tapping them, not by using the volume rocker and home button)
7. factory reset --> wipe cache --> wipe dalvik
9. flash the ICS Rom of your choice
10. reboot and let the Rom settle for a couple of minutes
Now comes the important part...check if you have root.
Start any Explorer with root permissions (Root Explorer, Es Explorer, X Explorer etc.).
Copy any file (a picture, txt file, MP3, whatever).
Navigate to /system folder
Change the /system folder's permissions to R/W.
Paste the file you have copied into /system.
If the pasting goes through OK, you're fully rooted.
Delete the file you've just pasted and set /system as R/O again
And that's it. Enjoy your rooted ICS Rom.
Once again, massive thanks to thechints, abhisahara, vviz and ubiquitous Dr. Ketan.
What to do if this procedure doesn't work, i.e. you don't get full ICS root
As we all know, our Notes are quirky devices. What works for most doesn't necessarily have to
work for your phone. So, if you fail to get full root:
Option 1. You will still have 90% functional ICS on your Note. Your phone will do all the usual stuff
normally. You'll probably even be able to use root apps, like Titanium. However, bear in mind that
you are stuck in the Rom you have just flashed - there is no going anywhere because your CWMR
doesn't have proper root privileges to flash things - DO NOT USE CWMR.
What you won't be able to do on your Note is
- apply themes and mods (because that involves flashing stuff through CWMR with no proper root)
- change DPI settings on your Note (you won't be able to switch to tablet mode, for instance)
Everything else should work properly. If you can live with that for a couple of weeks until the
official ICS arrives, then fine. Relax and enjoy your Rom.
Option 2. If you can't stand the thought that you don't have full root permissions then
- you can try to reboot to CWMR, flash AbyssNote 4.2 again, and try to run a GB restore.
This doesn't have high chances of success, but all is not lost even if it fails. Then
- you can use PC Odin to flash pre-rooted KJ1 stock Rom as explained by Dr. Ketan.
dr.ketan said:
When No Any other method works to Root your device, use this
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Note that, this will downgrade your ROM to KJ1, after that you can update it.

http://www.mediafire.com/?kkvdsf5vh8zipzi

- Tool to join them, run the following file and locate the .001 file.
http://www.mediafire.com/?btrusgmd1v2d72q
- Make sure your SGN is NOT connected to your computer
- Reboot your SGN into "download mode" (Vol Down + Home + Power)
- Start ODIN
- Click the PDA button, and select the "SGN_XX_OXA_KJ1_FACTORYFS.tar" file
- Connect the SGN to your computer
- Make sure "repartition" is NOT checked
- Click the START button
- Wait for the phone to reboot TWICE
- Done.
Now that you have a rooted GB stock Rom, Install Mobile Odin Pro n update your device to any new Rom with Mobile Odin
Click to collapse
After that you can flash whatever you like from its CWMR or use Mobile Odin to upgrade.

So we don't need to flash cf repack through mobile Odin or PC odin anymore and just flash 1st Abyte kernel, then 2nd flash any rooted & custom ics roms? Is it correct? What is your recommended ics custom rom would u suggest?

If Neo's kernel root sticks properly, one should be able to flash an ICS Rom straight from GB, just like you would flash a GB rom from another GB rom. No need for Abyss, Repack etc.

this procedure worked for me, im on i9295 stock 4.4.2
Thanks
Gerardo Mar.
yes it function, thx
I did this also but whit out these instructions... i went to hit yes when rebootting... The phosne is rooted yes, but i can't moun't back up..or flash anything else... does new reboot help???
Okay.. i did everything.. i re-flashed supersu, booted, re-booted and said no to rootfix.. Usb debugging on , and supersu apk setting checked and there is head user allowed..
I tried to make back up again but it did not work.
CWM starts to make back up but on the end it said can´t mount it... if i check my SD card there is back up folder and i think that there is also back up file (size1,95G).
I tried to restore but CWM saids something MD5 file failed...
So i´m rooted but i can´t flash new rom...
Try to reflash via Odin, and then do according to instruction.
Sent from my GT-I9295 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Ok i will try that..
Can it be wrong rom what i have tried to flash... supersu flashing was ok, but when i try to flash samsung stock 4.2.2 rom , it does not work...
Do they have different bootloader.
My phone is also encrypted... does it matter?

This method is just for 4.4.2
Sent from my ME173X using xda premium
I know.. i'm now 4.4.2. and i'm trying to get back to 4.2.2 stock.
Then just flash 4.2.2 via Odin.
Sent from my GT-I9295 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
It does not work... if i flash new rom (4.2,2 stock) using odin , flashing procedure stops and fails.. phone gets stucked and only way to get phone working is to flash KK stock firmware back...
So maybe i'm having some issue with the rom... i can' t find any another working. rom.... so i' m dead end.....

Hi the problem is that your bootloader is locked and it wont let you go back to 4.2.2 because of that... I read on the forum safetrap take a look on it. This may help you

Okay..
I9295 does not have locked bootloader... so i managed to solve my problem..
For some reason i could not to make backup of stock rom so just wiped all and flashed 4.3 slim and configured it and backupped...
I also flashed stock deoxed JB, and now i can get drivelink app to work again.
I also tried to flash safestrap but there was no SS to i9295 so i tried us version SS.
Everything works fine but i could not to make any rom slots.. i did not have enough memory.... but for real there was plenty of memory..
One problem is that every time i try to flash stock jb it soft bricks the phone... kk flash is fine..
Has anyone try to use hemidall???
can someone help
Hello
I have little problem first three stages I have done, but fourth stage I don't understund
4. Download in recovery mode;
does that mean i should go cwm and instal there su.zip or what
flashing via odin went well and i got green pass after flashing. But I dont see cwm anywhere when starting phone recovery, it goes original recovery not cwm.
Hi Guys. short (and maybe dumb) question but i have to be sure before messing up the phone of my friend.
I would like to flash CM11 nightlies with clockworkmod on a Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000.
I have read several tutorials for flashing the GT-N7000 and i'm not sure which is the best way to do it.
It is neccesary to update or change the (current stock) kernel? Or is it possible to just copy the recovery and ROM to the SD card, boot into download mode, install from there?
Sorry i only have experience with flashing my HTC One X.
Thanks in advance,
Greetings
I am in the same possition. A friend of mine wants to help him install a custom rom to his n7000.
He has the stock samsung rom and the phone is LAGGY!!
I only have experience with flashing cm11 to my own galaxy s3 with philz touch recovery.
I am reading for 4 hours now and i am lost...
Should i only use TWRP?
but twrp has a version only for cm 10...(i havent found by searching any cm11 twrp version for n7000)
Should i use cm 10 then and all is ok??
Thanks a lot
I am reading things about installing kernel for recovery (philz touch)
After installing that, its just wipe data / cache and install Rom from Zip.
Im still bit confused about the rooting process -> Trough Zip or trough Odin.
I hope some1 can help me.
First you need root. Then you can flash a custom rom.
To root your device tgere a several ways possible. All written here in sticky threads.
Easy way via Philz Kernel. You will get custom recovery and root in in step. What Rom is currentky installed? Last five digits are enough.

Stock rom is currently installed. I uploaded a picture with the specs within an attachment
Search for XXLTA Kernel in PhilZ thread and flash this one. All written in PhilZ thread. After that take your new Rom an follow the instructions in the thread again. For CM 11 you need also Raw4 kernel first. Only after that flash the custom rom. But that's all written 100000 times here....

Yes i know, to install play store and other applications. But for the flashing part, that is enough right? The kernel, ROM and Philz Recovery?

yes that is enough but gapps are usually installed right after the ROM so having it together with the other files is a good idea.
- transfer ROM, Kernels to internal or external SD.
- flash Philz JB kernel compatible with your device [ follow the instruction in Philz kernel thread on how to flash with no yellow triangle ] and reboot then verify that root is working (just try and give a file explorer root access or install an app like root checker from playstore)
- Once root is verified reboot to recovery (you should now be in philz touch recovery) I recommend you take a nandroid backup but the choice is yours
- Wait for the backup to complete or if you are skipping backup then
a) wipe data factory reset
b) wipe cache
c) format system by going into mounts and storage
d) wipe dalvik cache
- flash raw kernel and reboot recovery.
- Now in TWRP recovery (you can again choose to do steps a to d which is totally optional) find and flash the ROM you want
- flash gapps
- reboot
That should do it
and now just in case you don't like what you flashed you can always go back to your ROM if you took a nandroid backup as suggested in the installation steps
hope it helps
Restore instructions :
I don't know if CWM recovery takes he same path to backup as Philz recovery but if it does it pretty simple
- just reboot to recovery and do the steps a to d from the above installation steps and restore backup
But in case you are not able to find backup file in CWM then do this
- reboot to recovery
- flash Philz kernel (same one you flashed during installation )
-go to advanced and select "reboot recovery"
- now you should be in Philz recovery again
- do steps from a to d again and restore
Simple

Very clear! Thank you very much. Sorry for being a noob with this but it i think you cant be too sure when you are flashing kernels. Got my Nexus S bricked once while i was flashing a custom kernel.
And i dont have any experience with flashing samsung phone. Only HTC.
Thanks again and have a good day!

I was in the same boat 2 years ago so i understand the situation I am glad i could help and if you are coming from nexus I am pretty sure you won't have any issues at all. Just one or two flashes and you will know everything
and who knows I might need your help one day as I am thinking of buying the N6 myself
oh and btw let me tell you that recovery and kernel are in the same partition for N7000 so you can't have "this kernel and that recovery" here as you would in other devices. Thus if you need a certain recovery then you have to flash a certain kernel and if you need a certain kernel then it will install the recovery that comes with it overwriting the previous one. Also even if you flash just recovery somehow, the device will restore the one with the kernel upon reboot
So yeah

In the guide below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53346482
it clearly says ''-Download Raw Kernel r5 and copy it to either your internal or external memory''
You have downloaded raw_kernel_r4_j43
Why is that?
Am i missing something?
My friend's n7000 runs on 4.1.2 as well and my goal is to install cm11 as well.
Saying that, which is the appropriate raw_kernel???
The kernel code name should match the currently installed TW rom (4.1.2) or should it match the CM11 rom you intend to flash (4.4.4)????
to answer my own question : In XxPixX's quide of course it says r5 so 4.4.4 )
Anyway the kernel that you have downloaded is neither r5 nor r1 (i beleive that r1 is for 4.1)
Thanks, i hope someone with more experiense would clarify that!!

yes you have to download raw kernel because CM 11 or Android Kitkat requires SE Linux compatible recovery and raw kernel is the one that has this compatibility.
If you skip raw kernel then installation will fail giving you "status 7 installation aborted" error.
Downloading the latest Raw kernel for KitKat should do it just read in the kernel thread and download the latest one for kk.
the kernel code name should match the ROM (4.1.2) the one you currently have. Download the philz JB kernel for your JB ROM(follow the steps given in philz kernel thread)
There is no requirement as such for 4.4.4 ROM

Raw Kernel 5 (download link: http://ge.tt/5fBuPYn1/v/1?c ) is the good one right. Think that should do the trick. I see some people just flashing the philz touch cmw, and then the Rom, without the kernel. Several video's on youtube confirming that. So It's quite confusing 20 people explaining how to install CM11 and root on Samsung Note GT-N7000

yes that should do it, download the k44 one
I haven't seen any videos about that but it is possible to do so but that's just using the recovery temporarily to flash a certain ROM but in the end that recovery is replaced by the ROMs kernel recovery its the same thing we are doing by using raw kernel here in these installation steps but its true that it gets a little confusing
