This small application allows you to change the brightness of the capacitive buttons (back, home, and recent tasks) on many HTC devices and a few non-HTC devices, including the HTC One X (both dual-core and quad-core models), the HTC One X+, and the HTC One. Users have also reported success on other devices, including HTC One V, HTC One S, HTC Desire HD, and Evo 3g. Root is required in order for this application to work. This application works on any ROM, including CleanROM, ViperXL, Cyanogenmod, AOKP, and MIUI.

Differences in the Pro Version
The Pro version receives new features and bug fixes 2-4 weeks earlier than the free version. That's it! Oh, and also the free version has a link at the bottom of the main UI to upgrade to pro. The main motivation to pay for the pro version is to get official app updates easily and automatically via the Google Play Store. If you're happy with waiting for updates or using beta versions then you can live a full and happy life with the free version.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which brightness setting is "stock"? It depends. On Sense based ROMs (eg. CleanROM, ViperXL) "Bright" seems to be the default. On AOSP-based ROMs (eg. CM10, AOKP) "Dim" seems to be the default. It all depends on how/if the ROM maintainer tweaked the default setting. The "default default" (ie. if you RUU to stock) setting is "bright". In v1.0.4, a "Default" button was added to allow reverting to stock brightness.
How do I get back to the default setting? The most reliable way is to click the "Default" button on the main screen of the application then simply reboot. Or, you can just set the brightness setting that is the default.
What happens if I uninstall the app? Nothing. Well, it doesn't change the brightness setting if that's what you're wondering. After a reboot, though, the brightness setting will revert back to the ROM's default setting.
Known Issues
"Dim" does not work on all ROMs and kernels
"Off" does not stick when "GV Integation" app installed
Source
This application is released under the GPL3 open-source license. Source code is published at https://code.google.com/p/hox-cap-butn-brightness
Reporting Bugs
Use the "Bug Reports" feature of this DevDB project or add a post to this thread. Please include the contents of the application's "Debug Information" page (available from the "Settings" screen) when reporting bugs, as it contains invaluable information for developers to use when investigating issues. There is a "Copy" button in the top-right corner of the screen for easy cut & paste.

Feel free to bake the free version of this app into custom ROMs or publish it in other places. No need to ask permission from me. However, I am quite interested personally in different places that this app is used. So if you do include it in a ROM or whatever feel free to post a note to this thread to let me know! The app is licensed under the GPL, which means you can even take it apart and include it in your own stuff... I just ask that you honor the spirit of the GPL (unlike HTC's 120-day policy... grrr!)
Threads for this app for other devices (obsolete - please use this thread instead):

HTC One X (International "endeavoru" variant)

HTC Sensation XL
I've just posted a new version, v1.0.13-Beta2, which has fixed brightness levels for the HTC Sensation XL. Please test it out and report back your findings as these changes will be added to the next official version and I'd hate to not correctly support the HTC Sensation XL.
Here is the link to the post with the v1.0.13-Beta2 APK attached: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47322458#post47322458
Thank you!
A new version of this app is available: v1.0.13. This version fixes issues with the buttons backlight turning off, avoids cycling through "dim" in the widget if not supported, and adds HTC Sensation support. This version has been published to the Google Play Store in the "Pro" version; the free version will be updated to v1.0.13 on Dec 04, 2013.
The free version has also been updated to v1.0.12, and is available in the Play store and the APK is also available for download.
Please see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47453810#post47453810 for details and a link to the APK of the updated free version.
Changes in v1.0.13 (Since v1.0.12)
fix issue where buttons backlight sometimes turns off after a few seconds instead of staying on
avoid cycling through the "dim" setting in the widget if dim is not even supported
HTC Sensation support added
fix issue where "dim not supported" is erroneously reported on when selecting "off" brightness when dim is not supported (HTC One X international quad-core variant only)
correct spelling error in a dialog: brigtness -> brightness
NOTE: If you have a beta or test version of this app installed, you must first uninstall it before installing one of these two official versions. The reason is that having two versions of the app installed will interfere with each other. Also, the official APKs are signed with the "official" key, whereas the beta/test versions are signed with the developer key, and if keys don't match then the app will fail to install.
FYI, the "free" version of this application has been updated to v1.0.13, to match the current Pro version.
The update will be available in the Google Play Store in the next few hours: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.sleepydragon.capbutnbrightness
Alternately, the APK is available for download from: http://dl.bintray.com/sleepydragon/CapacitiveButtons/CapButnBrightness-1.0.13.apk
Using it since some weeks, works great, thanks !

This is an HTC Touch Pro 2 ROM, based on Windows Mobile 6.5. The current build number and date can be seen in the title of this thread.
I always build my ROMs with three main goals.
Eye candy.
Speed!
Smoothness, consistency and good esthetics.
I preconfigure a lot of things in my ROM, because when I flash it on my phone, I want it ready to go, how I'd want it. So, expect the backlight to be set at the maximum brightness, the ringtone, sms/email and other notifications to already be set.
You will find a new ROM posted here every few days, as I always update them with the latest "ingredients" that come down the pipe, from either Microsoft or HTC. Because of that, I recommend learning to backup your settings with either Sashimi or UC (User Customization).
I usually make 3 versions of the ROM. If you don't see one in the download directory, it either means I haven't uploaded it OR I'm not making one for the current release yet.
Here are the different versions and what they mean.
"Standard" includes the new TF3D2 (Rhodium Manila) along with the standard Windows Mobile 6.5 today plugin (Titanium)
"StandardM2.5" includes the new TF3D2.5 (Leo Manila) which is in its VERY early stages of development. I provide this ROM solely as a toy and not something I actively support.
"StandardM2.6" includes the new TF3D2.6 (Hero Manila) which is in its VERY VERY VERY early stages of development. I provide this ROM solely as a toy and not something I actively support. Lots of things don't work in it...
"Titanium" only includes the Titanium today plugin. No Manila in this version.

Oxygen is an AOSP source built ROM (ie. not a mod of any sense based ROM), it's minimal, it's superfast and mostly bugfree.
As Oxygen is not a mod/port of CM or any other ROM and may not be to everyones liking, it's minimalistic and basic but I'm open to ideas and suggestions for improving the ROM.
Features
Android v2.3.4 (GRJ22) built from AOSP
Linux kernel v2.6.35.x
Minimal Google apps
Superuser
Busybox
Additional features
Adhoc wifi network support
Advanced power menu with reboot options

Modified Launcher2 with quick uninstall
Optional battery percentage
SIP calling over 3G

Installation
A wipe is required when first flashing Oxygen, however, unless otherwise stated, no wipe is needed to upgrade between versions.
Download update-oxygen-xxx-signed.zip to your sdcard storage on your HTC Desire
Boot into ClockworkMod Recovery through whatever method you choose (ROM Manager, Power + Volume Up, ADB etc...)
Back up your existing installation
[First flash only] Use the volume keys and power button to select Wipe Data
Select Install Zip from SD Card
Find the update-oxygen-xxx-signed.zip file you downloaded earlier
Scroll through all the No's and hit Yes, install update-oxygen-xxx-signed.zip
Wait for the installation to finish
Select Reboot
After initial reboot, reboot a second time and you're all set

Android development is a hobby for me, the Android community has been good to me and I enjoy what I do, I don't do it for any personal gain or gratification so if you like Oxygen and would like to show appreciation for the time and effort me and other people have put into it then I would very much appreciate it if you could donate to the 'childhood leukaemia' charity I support, you can donate via Paypal or by card/cheque, thanks for taking the time to read this and thanks for donating if you choose to .

Already running the test build and it runs just as smoothly on my NS as it does on my desire.

Finally!
I loved Oxygen to Desire, now it will be to my new Nexus S aswell! Great!
Damn!
This "test" rom is fast and smooth, and I haven't encountered any bugs. Ran my normal WiFi, camera and GPS tests and all work perfectly.
Thanks OP!
Finally it's official
BTW:
I created my "Black" theme for the Nexus S. You can download it HERE and you will find screenshots HERE
Unfortunatley, this theme does not have a transparent notification area, I'm still looking for the reason.
Good seeing you here adam
This is what I've been looking for, thank you!
great! downloading the testbuild now.
i already used oxygen on my desire and loved it. nice to have you here now, adam!!!
keep up your great and amazing work
Since almost all people here are ex desire users raving about this rom .. Can some of you tell me why this rom is special ?
Great ROM. Ad-Hoc is a must for me so I'll be keeping my eyes on this.
Will use it as daily driver if you add CM7 Hebrew/Arabic & RTL support.
Thank you!
how about making notif bar and dialer transparant ? =p.. and some theme to choose for other (optional)..

Because on Desire Oxygen is simply the Best ROM. Fastest, bug-free, long battery life, hackfree.
I tried some ROMs on Nexus S (after I came from Desire) and non of that give me that profit like Oxygen on Desire.
Right now I preparing my Nexus for flash Oxygen-TEST

Not a former desire user raving about the rom here. Flashed for the 1st time this morning. Here's what I think is so "special" about this rom (imao, of course):
1. First thing I noticed is how fast it is and that it feels really quick.
2. Clean, stock gingerbread. No themes or themed icons, notifications, etc. Just Android.
3. No bloatware at all. Not even wallpaper and live wallpaper bloat. Sweet.
4. The OP's mods add a nice touch to things and are really useful -- the reboot w/ options mod, optional battery %, optional notification power widget mod, long press back to kill app mod, browser reflow mod.
5. Ability to move all apps, not just user apps, to sdcard.
6. Even though this is a "test" release, I haven't noticed any bugs. GPS, WiFi, and BT all work great for me. No FC's either.
Overall, I think this rom offers the benefits of CM7 w/o the bloat of CM7. The other thing I think is cool is that the dev wants donations for this rom to go to a charity that he supports. I've never seen anyone on xda do that before. That's the kind of dev I want to support. Plus its a great rom.
Running Oxygen-TEST and I miss NFC settings and app.
Oxygen on nexuss !!great my desire loved that rom, nice work adam!

Porting Information and Credits
There has been an enormous amount of interest surrounding utilizing components or modifications from our ROMs. To this point, our policy was that any such work needed to explicitly be approved by the team. The fact of the matter is that the policy is simply not enforceable and any time consumed working to enforce it detracts from the time we have to work on Android (which is what we really enjoy). As such, we’ve decided to go in a different direction.
Going forward, ROM developers are welcome to utilize any portions of our ROM which are of interest.
Our only requirement is that you let us know about what you’re doing by sending an email to (devteam|at|virtuousrom.com), credit the Virtuous Team in your thread(s) and provide a link to our website. No response on our part is required whatsoever, we’re just interested to hear about how our work is helping you.
Our plan is to continue to innovate and push the envelop of ROM development; with the goal of staying enough ahead of the curve to merit a desire to clone our work.

Important Notes
If you are experiencing random freezes and/or reboots, this is likely due to your device being incapable of handling our overclocking defaults. Download and apply this flashable patch, which will reduce the maximum CPU frequency to 1Ghz and likely eliminate this issue.
You must complete a full wipe prior to installing this ROM the first time. We also recommend wiping between upgrades, but you are welcome to try upgrading without a wipe. However, no support will be provided if you file a bug without having wiped prior to submission.
Bugs and Errors
To ease the process of reporting bugs to the team, we made a public bugtracker where you can report the bugs you found. Please make sure you read all the existing entries there to avoid doubling the errors.
The bugtracker is located here.

Install instructions (thanks to lollylost100):
1. Make a full wipe (please don't use Full Wipe 1.5 (EXT4) or such tools)
2. Flash ROM
3. Reboot
Please keep in mind:
You can always try to do a non wipe install, but we can't provide you support in this case.
If you find any errors in the ROM and you have NOT wiped before, please wipe and see if the errors persists.
Special features
This ROM has some unique or not widely known features which I want to explain here.
Screenshot
This ROM (in fact most Sense 3 ROMs) has the unique feature to make screenshots without any additional app.
Just Hold the "Power"-Button and then press "Home" at the same time and the phone will save your screenshot in the Images folder on you SD-Card.
OC Daemon
This ROM deals with overclocking a little bit different than other ROMs. To get further information read this post.
Fancy input animations
Unfortunately HTC removed from all their Sense ROMs the "open" and "close" animations for the keyboard.
Thanks to seo we were able to get them back
There are two different animation versions. The normal one is always activated and there is also no way to deactivate it.
The second "fancy" version can be enabled via the app "Spare Parts" which is in the Android Market.
Custom user app install during first boot
The ROM has the ability to automatically install custom user apps during the first boot (after a wipe)
All you need to do is the following:
Create an folder on your SD card and name it virtuous_unity
Create another folder inside virtuous_unity folder and name it 'app.user'
Copy all the desired apps in this directory in there paketname form, for example: 'com.quoord.tapatalkxda.activity.apk'
Now flash the ROM via your recovery
During the first boot the apps get installed from your SD card, as this will take a while, don't get impatient
Release strategy
We are planing to release our ROM in the future every week on the same day and around the same time.
This point in time will be every Monday night (GMT). Which is ca. 24h from NOW.
If there are no MAJOR bugs we will release what ever we have done at this time.
Saturday night (GMT) is the so called feature freeze, then the ROM will enter the testing phase. It gets tested until monday and then the team will talk about the results.
Once everything is approved we'll release the next version.
As you should know now when the next version arrives I won't answer ANY questions concerning ETAs.

Introduction to the new Overclocking Daemon
This ROM features a completely new way of Overclocking and managing screen states.
The History
But before explaining it further, let's talk about previous solutions.
There are several different approaches to archieve "screen-state-scaling".
That means basically that the govenor changes if you turn the screen off and changes back to normal when turning the screen on.
This is mainly used to restrict the amount of CPU usage (the frequency in fact) during screen off. This can lead to a major battery life increase.
The solutions so far were:
App like SetCPU, which change automatically the govenor based on profiles
integrated solutions in the govenor itself
Both these solutions have major problems.
The one with a tuner app is always a little laggy right after turning on the screen because SetCPU (or any other CPU tuner) needs some time to change the govenors (up to 7 seconds). This leads mostly to major lag in the lockscreen.
The second solution is the smartass govenor. It has already a screen-state-scaling included, so it reduces the frequency when the screen turn off.
This could be a really nice solution but it has some problems too.
Smartass most of the time is not really stable and has problems with its frequency scaling.
State-of-the-art-solution
So we (more precisely rmk40) thought of a better solution.
He wrote a native C Daemon which changes the govenors instantly without any lag.
This leads to major performance improvements right after turning on the screen and in the lockscreen.
But at the moment this solution is a little bit harder to configure. We are plaing to make a GUI for this, so you get the same comfort as using SetCPU.
Nevertheless you can even now adjust the daemon to your needs.
Be aware that the daemon only works if all CPU tuner apps are deinstalled. Otherwise it deactivates itself.
How to adjust the daemon
The daemon is configured with 6 files in the folder /system/etc/virtuous_oc/.
There are 3 files for the wake state and 3 for the sleep state. For each state one file for the govenor, one for the minimal frequency and one for the maximal frequency.
You can easily edit these files eg. with RootExplorer or any other app which can edit system files. So you can adjust the frequencies and the govenor for each state just like with SetCPU.
In order to get the available frequencies for the current kernel, just open your favorite terminal app and type
cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_available_frequencies
You could also use adb shell to show the frequencies on your computer.
To get the available govenors use a similar approach:
cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_available_governors
Please make sure, you are entering the right values in the daemon's config files.

So far it seems to be a nice, clean and fast ROM.
But I noticed 2 Things:
1.) The 4 buttons on the bottom (home, menu, back and search) are not enlightened. So you can't see them in dark surrounding
2.) Gmail is missing and I can't install it from Google Market
But: Nice Work *thumbs-up*
Thanks,Thanks,

Thanks for reporting this with the buttons. I'll put it on our bug list.
This is with Gmail is strange because it should be installed during first boot.
It seems nice, thanks..
omg i need a s-off soon !! excellent 1
Great! I will download it sooner
As soon as the buttons lighting are fixed, this is getting a download! Well done guys.
At first: Thanks for your work! Nice to see a real Sense 3.0 ROM for our IncS.
The bugs (no video in landscape and backlight of the keys) seems to be a problem of most Gingerbread ROMs for IncS.
Do they come from the kernel or a bad file in the framework?
I thought it had something to do with the CRT affect. Is that included in this ROM?
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using XDA Premium App
We probably found a solution for the market issue with gmail. Any one here there has this problem and is able to try it?

Can you please try to install this fix and report if the market then works as expected?
Mhm seems unchanged.
After flashing the update, I still cant download Gmail from market.
Then I made a full wipe in recovery, and flashed the update right afterwards (without reboot)
Still no Gmail.
Maybe the Problem is that you cant download Gmail from the market in germany?
I even cant find Gmail in market .

I have now updated the first post with the current features and the upcoming features from version 1.2.0.0.
This version is already done and I only have to do some testing and I still have to remove some code that will not make the final cut for version 1.2.0.0 (concerning video playback on the phone) and might be available in a later version.
Anyway, I have tested this week and I am confident that I will be able to release this version to MS still this weekend and then it will probably be available early next week.
I would also always like to hear feedback on the current version and also feature requests for future versions.
Thank you.
I have again updated the first post with new screenshots of the upcoming version 1.2 which I have now made available to Microsoft for certification.
Version 1.2 has now been approved by Microsoft and is available on the Windows Phone Marketplace now. A link can be found at the bottom of the first post.
I am currently thinking about the next version and which features to include.
Currently, these features are under consideration:
- Playback of rendered clips (already working in my current beta build but not for all clips)
- More information about rank (cR needed to rank up, total cR, list of all ranks with cR requirements)
- Game history (list of recent games)
This is also the order in which I would like to make these features available.
Any thought on these features or other feature request would be appreciated.
I once again made some changes which I would like to share with you.
This version is not yet available on the marketplace and there are still many things I have to do.
However, I still wanted to share the attached screenshot of this built in progress.
As you can see I have moved the emblem to the rank page and I increased the emblem size and quality along with that.
This means that on the player page you can see your spartan without the emblem being in the way.
The Rank Page now also features the Primary Armor Color (in this case green).
Additional changes which you cannot see in this screenshots include:
- Settings are accessible from Medals, File Details and Video Details
- When a Commendation is at Onyx Max, the app will still show the current number instead of "> 20,000" (in the case of "Dome Inspector")
For Commendations I am also thinking about showing the amout of Credits a player gets (both for completing it once and for reaching a certain tier) and maybe the total amount of credits the player has received through this Commendation.
Again, feature requests and feedback would be welcome.
I used to have this app and it was nice to have. I think the reason you don't get much feedback is simply Halo Waypoint that now gives you all your Halo Reach stats.
Maybe you could work on something for Call of Duty (or something else, just a suggestion).
Yeah I know that is why I try to add features and statistics that Waypoint does not offer, like Commendations or File Share/Recent Screenshots.
You should prepare a Gears of War 3 app, you have a couple of months before release .
If anybody would like to beta test the upcoming version please send me a PM.
Here's the current list of new features:
- Limited video playback option
- Settings are accessible from Medals, File Details and Video Details
- Onyx Max Commendations show current numbers
- Rank employs Armor Color
- Rank shows Credits required to rank up and current Credits
- Emblem moved to Rank
- Emblem size increased
- 4 thumbnail previes for rendered videos
- Correct format for numbers and dates depending on user settings
as well as some other minor stuff.
I have now submitted version 1.3 to Microsoft for testing and I will update the first post as soon as it is released.
After that I will look into Mango features and while users of Windows Phone 7.0 will still be able to download version 1.3, there will be only be new features for 7.1 users.
I have now updated the first post with information regarding the current release.
Like I said this will the final release for pre-Mango users.
I plan on including a Live Tile in Mango which will allow you to pin a gamertag to the start screen. It would show your player model and some stats (probably your overall Matchmaking K/D) on the new back site of the Mango Live Tile.
I have changed my mind a little on how to continue with development.
The next release will be available to all Windows Phone Users and will not feature Mango specific features.
Creating and updating a live tile in the background is not that easy so I will have to do some testing on that as soon as I am able to run Mango on my phone.
The emulator is not so useful because I can't really test how the live tile works or does not work in the long term and I cannot try out different connections (Wifi vs 3G).
Therefore there will be an update before for Mango Users that features simple thinks like fast app switiching.
This is the current plan for the future:
-1.4: Integration of Halo: Reach Challenge Initiative
-1.5: Mango Update (fast app switiching)
-1.6: Live Tile
As you can see from version 1.5 onward new features will only be available to Mango Users.
New feature requests are of course always welcome and if you would like to be a beta tester contact me via private message.
I have again changed my plans.
I want to get out an update for Windows Phone 7.5 as soon as possible. One reason is that with Windows Phone 7.5 this app will be able to play all rendered videos in 360p (and 720p if you have rendered the video in HD).
However, the HRCI API is not yet complete. Therefore I will probably disable HRCI and remove HRCI integration from the next release (version 1.4)
This is now the new schedule:
1.4:
- Mango-only update (support for Mango features such as fast-app switching)
- playback option for all rendered videos
1.5 (still Mango only because the rollout seems to be pretty smooth):
- HRCI Integration
The live tile requires a lot of testing and might either come in 1.5 but if the HRCI API is complete shortly after the release of 1.4, the live tile will come in a later update in 1.6
Anyway, for the new features (including the live tile) I would welcome beta testers, especially if you are running Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango).
If you would like to participate, you can either let me know through this forum or sign up on this website:
Windows Phone Beta
OK 1.4 is now almost complete.
I have released a beta that features HRCI Integration on WindowsPhoneBeta.com. There are still open slots so if you are intersted please join.
This is still a 7.0 app so there is no fast app switching, but if you have 7.5 you can look forward to support for all rendered videos.
I will probably release this within a week and then, again about a week later I will update it to Mango.
However, HRCI will be removed from the final release because it is not yet done. HRCI will be added later when the guy who runs the site says it is ok.
Thus, this is the (final!) plan:
1.4 (7.0, ~week of Novemeber 7th):
- Video playback for 7.5 users
- other minor improvements
1.5 (7.5, ~week of November 14th):
- Mango specific features
Later:
- HRCI
- Live Tile
very good app
After many delays I am finally able to release version 1.4 on the Windows Phone Marketplace.
This version has a slightly different icon because I was not allowed to continue using the Halo Logo in the app.
I have also updated the first post to reflect the current version.
The most important new feature is the option to play all rendered videos on Windows Phone 7.5 ("Mango").
You will be able to play videos in 360p SD an/or 720p HD, depending on the resolution you selected while rendering the video. Although 720p HD streaming does work, it requires a fast connection and even then it will stutter.
Therefore I recommend to always play videos in 360p.
Among some UI changes I have also added an option to save an image of the player model (spartan) to the pictures hub and I have made several efforts to speed up the app.
One of those efforts it the new setting "Connection". Until now, the app always used "Fast" and I suggest that you keep on using this setting.
The setting "Slow" will transmit less data, but the phone will need to parse this data. This will help if your connection is very slow (slower than 3G) and the download itself takes very long.
There is also a History which stores that last 50 gamertags you used. The most recently used gamertags will always be on top. Because of that history, you will not have to save the gamertag anymore. Instead, the gamertag will be saved automatically as soon as you navigate away from the settings page.
Please note that gamertags will only be added to the history when you download stats for them from either the main page ("reload") or the settings page ("Test Gamertag").
As always, feature requests are welcome, but since the time I have for this app is very limited, I cannot guarantee anything.
EDIT: Also it might take some time for the update to roll out to all users. If you download (or already have) version 1.3 you should see that an update is available on the Marketplace Live Tile within the next 24 hours.
If you want to beta test the upcoming Mango version, you can register your interest on Windows Phone Beta
This version has mostly only adjustments to make it work better on Windows Phone 7.5.
Most notably, 1.5 features Fast-App-Switching Support.
Furthermore, you can now pin gamertags to the start screen. These Tiles are not yet Live Tiles (meaning they won't update in the background), but if I get enough data from testers I might be able to implement Live Tiles in a future version.
However, most likely Live Tiles will only work for users with fast data connections (like 3G+, "4G" on the Radar or LTE in the future). I will allow users on all devices to enable Live Tiles, but for users with slower connections they will most likely not work as expected.
Hello,
as some of you might now, after March 31st, Bungie will no longer have access to new stats from Halo: Reach. New stats will only be available on Halo Waypoint (by 343 Industries) and some features will not be continued.
Unfortunatly, one of those scrapped features is the API I use to get all the data for the app.
That means that after March 31st, 2012, the data the app can access will not be updated anymore.
While the API will remain functional for some time and you will be able to continue to use the app, it will be way less useful without recent stats.
Furthermore, my time is limited and I worked on this as a hobby and to improve my programming skills.
I have contiuend development of this app a little bit and I still have a couple of unreleased but more or less working features:
- Mango support
- Pinning a gamertag to the start screen
I will probably release this along with some information about the API shutdown before March 31st as a final update.
While there are of course ways to adapt the app to those changes and to access the data on Halo Waypoint, it would take too much time for me and as such I have no other choice but to discontinue this app.
TL;DR summary:
On March 31st, everything the app can download will become static (no new data).
It will continue to work for some time after March 31st, but without live or recent data.
I will release one final update with a couple of new features but mostly to inform users about this.
I would also like to thank all Beta testers and the 4,000+ users of my app.
Version 1.5 has now been released and will be available to download within a couple of hours.
This update does not fix the issue where the stats do not update anymore. The last update of the stats was March 31st 2012 and there is nothing I can do to change that (read the previous post).
However, this update does bring some new features:
- option to pin gamertags to the homescreen for quick access
- Fast-App-Switching Support
- option to share files on your social networks.
And finally there is also a notice to inform users that this app does not update anymore that it will stop working completely at some point.
Challenges do not seem to be affected (so these are still the current challenges), but the player's progress is not available anymore.
Anyway, thanks to more than 4000 users and over 100 reviews.

Hello everyone, I have been working on a beautiful pedometer app with new material design that keeps track of how many steps you've taken to promote a healthier lifestyle. Be it walking, jogging, hiking, running, or any other activity, you'll find this app useful in keeping track of your stats. How this is different from most other pedometer apps is that with the hardware step sensor, this app uses almost no additional battery so you can keep it running all day. In my testing I noticed no difference in battery life between a day with Pedometer running and a day without it.
From the Google Play description:
Features:
- Set your goal! It is recommended that you take 10000 steps a day. This app allows you to set a goal that's right for you, and displays your current progress.
- Track your progress with a detailed list of history entries. Unlike other apps, Pedometer's history feature will keep track of all the info from every day you walk.
- Split counter for activities! Create and save activities so you can separate how many steps you took in that one jog from the rest of the day. Useful for tracking progress over a particular activity rather than throughout the whole day. Free version is limited to the creation of 5 activities, purchase pro to unlock unlimited activities.
- Colorful themes: choose one of 6 colorful themes that use the new material design. Dark themes coming soon.
- Low powered: Unlike other pedometer apps, this one will not affect your battery life at all.
- Achievements and leaderboards: sign in with your Google+ account to unlock both single and multi day achievements and compete with your friends in leaderboards!
- More than just steps: Pedometer also shows you how far you walked and how many calories you have burned today.
Click to collapse
There is also a pro version you can buy if you'd like to support me. This pro version currently adds a distance counter, so you can see how far you've walked all day. I plan on adding more pro-only features in the future, such as a widget or custom themes. But don't worry, the free version will still be perfectly capable of serving as your daily pedometer. If a feature is extremely popular within the pro version I'll consider adding it to the free version as well.
Requirements:
- Devices with a hardware step sensor, such as Nexus 5, Moto X, or Galaxy S5. Most recent high-end devices will also have this sensor. The hardware step counter makes it possible to keep the pedometer active without any additional battery drain.
- Android 4.4 KitKat or newer: The latest version of Android provides APIs to utilize that hardware step counter

Downloads: Free version, Pro version ($2.99)
I have used only three permissions. One is start on boot. This is used to start counting as soon as you start the device. The other two are write (and therefore read) external storage. This is used solely for the purpose of exporting logs to assist with debugging if the need arises. Don't worry, your data is safe, and this app will not be sending away any of your information.
If you have any questions of suggestions feel free to contact me, I try to respond within the same day.

V2 and Material Design
In the recent Pedometer V2 update I completely rewrote the app with material design in mind. This rewrite squashed most if not all bugs from previous version, and includes several beautiful new themes following Google's Material Design guidelines. However, due to several limitations, the apks uploaded on the Play Store are not able to use the Android L APIs and consequently are missing a few L-only features such as elevations and the ripple effect. I hope that once L is officially released Google will release a compatibility library and these UI enhancements are able to make their way to all devices. However, for now, if your device is running Android L preview, and you would like to enjoy true material elements, I have uploaded the apks compiled using API level L.
Download links for Android-L version: Free, Pro
Note: Both the free and pro version are available for download here for free. However, the pro version will verify the license with Google Play servers on launch. To ensure pro features are enabled, please purchase the pro version on the Play Store. Otherwise pro versions will be disabled and the app will function fine with the feature set of the free version.

It says there is an error in package parsing. CM 4.4.4
Are there incompatibility issues that you haven't written?
Not working with Galaxy S5
Hi,
I have installed your app on my galaxy S5 it only detects (roughly) 1/10 of the steps, compared to S Health or Google Fit.
It is sad because I really love the low battery consumption, and would like to switch to CM12 (losing thus S Health) and don't like Google Fit because italways needs location history enabled.
Are you planning to support samsung phones?
