As this is I think a smaller tablet, I'd like to know how you guys feel about using the Note as a phone.
Does it feel natural or a bit strange & awkward?

It's perfectly fine for me. The only downside is people asking to look at it, and saying: "I gotta get me one of these!" But you get used to it

Might be a daft question....but, do you hold it to your face or talk AT it (ala The Apprentice)?

It's just a phone, so I hold it to my ear. But you could do both, I guess. The phone is very large, and it is a little awkward the first few days, but now it feels great. The screen size is really sweet. I have to admit I've nearly dropped it once already.. It's kind of unwieldy sometimes. I'm always super careful, I've never dropped my HTC HD2 (4,3 inch) even once, in over two years time, and I've never dropped my classic iPod which I've been using for over 7 years or so. But this phone is so big, I've nearly dropped it in just a few weeks. I'll have to be extra careful with my Note. But other then me being scared of dropping it, the size is fine. It's great, actually. In tablet mode at 213 DPI, you can fit an entire a4 sheet on it in portrait mode, and still be able to read the text!
Seexxxxxyyyy!
No seriously! Feels normal, completely normal! Have been using it for one and a half months now and now when I use other phones, they all feel TOO small. Even the HTC One X, I tried it today, felt too small.
And yes, I am waiting for the 5.5 or 5.7 inch version. 6 inch.. Why not!? My first worry before getting note was the size, after a few days using it, it's the best thing about it!
Im not ashamed of pulling the big boy outta my pocket and answer a call!
It feels amazing! I'm so glad I dumped my iphone 4s for galaxy note! I couldn't be happier about the decision. All those years what a waste... [email protected]#k apple and genius bar asshats!
I LOVE MY GALAXY NOTE!!!!!
There's no shame involved! I have the flip it case which replaces the battery back with flip screen cover attached - protects really well adds virtually no bulk at all and you can use the phone with the case closed as it has earpiece cut out. After a day the phone size really didn't bother me - there's such a big advertising push in UK at the mo a lot more people know what it is rather than a month ago. Can be a conversation starter and a simple play of the Samsung demo vid blows most people away with first experience of Samoled. I honestly believe we'll see even bigger phones (well maybe different aspect ratio) in the future.
Of course if you had to have the case open to use the phone...

Awkward at first, second nature after a few weeks in my case.
Only problem still present is that I'm unable to dial one handed, but having my frequently dialed numbers as shortcuts on one of my panels is a good way and quicker way of dialing.
Cheers

Not bad. For long periods of talk, i use a Bluetooth ear phone
I have used BT headsets for years, and tend to use one with the Note while on the move. If I am with people I tend to turn it off, and then I use the Note as a 'normal' phone.
I find it quite normal now after 4 months. Nobody else seems to bother about it, but I am a large bloke, 1.93m. I too get the amazed requests to see it, but generally when I use it as a tablet. At least two people have bought one based on seeing mine.
Feel ok for me. I using a bookcase type of flip casing. Initially, need some getting use to flip open the cover and slide to answer the call. Still a two hand operation when call come in when the cover is closed and latched.
As a phone, it never fails to amaze me that the Iphone looks terribly a miniscule/midget device than my Note.
As a phone and a tablet, it surely blows away the Iphone, no contest at all.
As when taking calls, I don't feel awkward holding it on my ear as my ear is actually also a bit large also (than a regular person's ear), , so the Note fits perfectly to the tee.
Just from reading through a load of the threads in this forum, I've noticed a lot of indecision.
Let me explain...
Apparently, this phone has not got enough in stock to make sure everyone gets one, there's a buzz from the earphones, it heats up too much, it has poor battery life, poor touch sensitivity, easily scratchable, screen smashes too much, it drops down the toilet too easily, it makes a rattling noise, yellow tint, screen glitching, the screen looks washed out, massive interference whilst using a car charger, a looping FC of Bluetooth Share, not enough vibration, it randomly reboots, black dots under the screen, no connection on WLAN, not enough storage, dead pixels, grainy photos, LED flash doesn't work, wonky haptic feedback, antenna gate issue, slight lift on screen, brightness gets broke, unresponsive power button, slow auto focus, creaking on bottom right of the device, most free media from the play store only available in the US, purple glaze effect on the camera, wireless charging problems, the onscreen soft key, poor WiFi signal, gap between bezel and the side of the phone, it won't drive your car for you and it won't grow legs and kick your enemies.
I'm surprised I haven't seen a complaint saying that the box it comes in is 1mm too thick.
And yet the majority of people think it's the best phone ever.
Just make up your freaking mind!!!!!

I must disagree.
The box is way too thin. It creases way too easy and under a lunar eclipse you can really notice it.
Love the phone. My only complaint is that the vibrate thingy is useless!

Well if the box was 1inch thinner it would fit better in my drawer so damn them for not checking that before releasing the phone.
Seriously I love the design and only time will tell if it will be durable enough etc but for design its an A++

Mine has 'niggles' but I don't care, I'm picky but I'm not THAT picky!
The vibration works well, my alarm went off in my pocket when I was driving, gave me a boner so it's clearly strong enough! lol
People seem to be vocal with problems. I've always received an item, decided if it lives up to my expectations and returned it if it doesn't, without moaning on the forums. If it's a software issue, like most of my niggles I'm going to just deal with them until the fix comes, since this is a Nexus device after all, we're in good shape for updates!
Products have issues, welcome to the realm of early adoption.
Phil
Yep I agree. As much as everyone wants the perfect device you can't have cutting edge tech the day it comes out AND have a perfect device.
Under testing there is simply not enough retail devices made at this point to mass test under mass production conditions for long enough to find faults.
Even apple and Samsung and Sony etc etc all release devices be it phones TVs laptops hard drives or a desk fan all will be released before kinks are worked out
This is not deliberate, its just that issues which come up have not been found yet.
Check any identical devices made even 4months apart and you will no doubt find that there are different revisions of board used in them or chip.
Plastic production can be different and parts can be sourced else where .
So unless a recall is required for a dangerous fault, issues will be resolved in future devices.
This is not lg this is anything with a plug that this relates to.
I do agree however many cosmetic flaws should never pass quality control as they are easy enough to see and most of these QC checks are done with cameras now not humans so any discrepancy should be picked up easily to be referred to a human to double check.

Yeah, F this forum! Let's move to 4chan/nexus4!
Mine has a slightly buzzing earpiece and the screen seems a little darker on one side although this is probably just my eyes lol.
I have none of the other issues, and have to say that it is a MUCH better phone than the SGS 3 I had for six months.
I was constantly changing ROMS on the SGS3 and was never 100% happy.
This phone is built better, is louder, has a stronger vibrate, better screen, louder and clearer speaker, clearer in calls, much faster and is truly smooth and lag and skip free. The touchscreen is perfect.
Cannot make even one complaint about this phone that would put me off it.
I am enjoying my phone a ton!
My phone rattles but since I don't have Parkinsons I don't hear it.
I have the buzz but the only time I would be able to hear it is when I am on the phone and either me or the other person is talking to I can't hear it!
I don't take my phone to the bathroom so I haven't dropped it in the toilet yet.
Overall a great phone and totally worth the purchase price!

Dunno. Feels like I'm reading more threads like this one than actual complaint threads. Not sure why these need to keep being reposted.

Well here is my few thoughts about the device.
Had the phone for about 3 weeks now, didn't use any sort of bumper or a case only a screen protector(s). And to be honest there ate issues that have evolved over time.
1. USB: when cable is connected and I gently move it up and down, port was clicking. Its like USB isn't glued properly inside and its coming off with every up/down move. This has now resolved, but instead when I gently press top and bottom part of the phone exactly where the USB port is, the phone is crackling.
2. Parts of the phone frame have started to crackle (or whatever the word ia) as well. E.g left top corner exactly where notification bar is
3. Power button is starting to wear off. Its harder to press and it starts to make funny sounds when pressed .
4. Not sure but I think I have yellowish tint at bottom part of the screen but it might be my eyes. Than again my eyes are quite ocd when it comes to stuff like that.
No other issues , no scratches, dents etc. It just feels that phone lost sturdiness ....
Will continue to update as new things emerge...
No other issues present at the moment

I have the two issues in bold. I thought I was just hearing things but yeah there's a clicking sound when I move the USB cable connector while it's plugged in.
Also have noticed a yellow hue in the bottom left corner of my screen since day one. Thought it would fade away but it's still there. Not a huge deal but it's definitely a bit odd.
I've had mine for a few weeks, and I'm not going to lie I get scared sometimes to squeeze the edges of the phone just in case I hear a crackle or squeak. I'm super ocd so Itll bother me knowing I have it even though I don't always feel it lol

If his experience reflects 0% of the population then all of the other threads started by others and comments from others still, in those threads should be closed by mods because they are obviously fake and classify as trolling. HOWEVER if maybe, JUST MAYBE the OP and the exceptionally high margin of other posters in the N4 forum are actually stating the truth about their experience with the obvious and even Google acknowledged (just call support like I did and they'll tell you they've gotten many calls from similar claims) then you sir are the troll and of the worse breed of trolls... The defensive, any complaints about Google or anything slightly related to Google cant be valid kind. Don't be a defensive sheep especially when your fellow tech nerd has a bad experience with a device that he payed $400 for. Honestly iSheep AND sheepdroids are equally annoying.

LG sold 10 million of these models.. Not talking about just Nexus but Optimus L models and they are now even working on their own chip. I do not think they are doing so badly..
With regards to your crying, it is not so much that people do not want to hear about issues. It is the fact that many people including myself think some of these things are not issues at all. I also wonder why you are in this forum if you do not want or like this phone? What is your reason? To agree with people who complain and to defend them?
A clicking usb? I have not wiggled my usb and with normal usage I don't. Perhaps it is built to wiggle or have a little give so it does not break. I don't know but this does not seem like an issue. Also, if you are not hearing any creaks with normal use than it is not a real problem. If you are putting the phone next to your ear and squeezing it all over than stop.
My phone is perfect. No yellowing, no creaking, no usb clicking, no mysterious cracks or scratches. I am so happy and the build quality is amazing as are many of LG'S products.

The only issue I've had so far is a bit of yellow tinting after extensive usage/screen on time, which is far from a deal breaker for me. I am BEYOND pleased with this phone - especially compared to the current flagships from other OEMs. It's not perfect, but I've yet to use a smartphone without it's own set of issues.

There are a few kernels that have color adjustment built in, like Motley's, so you don't have to use color adjust apps.
But those apps can be used on any kernel thus provides you more flexibility.
Your choice.
Hello,
Been following this thread for a couple months now, almost bought the xz, but seeing both took their sweet time to launch and one's finally available...
So just returned from a mall, seen it in 2 stores, live.
It looks really nice just as pictured by everybody in these forums. The screen looks amazing, very sharp, cannot compare to anything else. Sound thru loudspeakers best I heard in a phone.
However..
The built quality seemed to lack.. Alot.
The metal parts didn't seem to be aligned properly to the point where visually they were protruding out; the corners felt rugged, especially where the metal will stick out. There were minor gaps, albeit too visible on both models.
Now, surely I have heard about these possible issues. Wasn't too worried before as consider myself less picky about things in general. But after seeing the store model, I am a little worried. I know I get to bring it back if not happy my question is how the store demo version compares to the actual thing? Aren't the demo units supposed to be better, at least in build quality? One thing I am sure of, will carefully inspect it in store.
As an aside, all my phones past 10 years bought online: I wouldn't take the same chance with one whatever return policy.

I had a few issues with build quality on my first few handsets , rough edges etc and then on my last one (which didn't suffer from the capptive button problem) I decided to just take care of the rough edges myself and used a bit of 2000 wet and dry sand paper on the polished edges and white band, now have a perfect handset

Pixel issues are going to increase as pixel density has more than doubled over the last few years. No way around it. We also need to remember that it is in no way HTC fault and that every single phone manufacturer has similar failure rates.
From what a fair few people on here have said, the most recent builds are fixing these issues.
I myself have a model with very minor build quality issues but it's not enough to make me want to get a replacement or switch to another phone.
The phones so good that these minor issues can be overlooked, by me at least.

Checked a little bit on the issues I seen or heard of before, mechanically it's almost perfect, alignment and all, no dead or stuck pixels, call quality seems alright, sound recording and playback.
The only issue if I may say so, on maximum volume there's a bit of distortion on loudspeakers.
I will get to play more with it this weekend, can hardly wait, but so far it seems like a nice replacement for my sgs2.

Yeah I'm usually not very anal about those kinds of things but I must admit that the headphone jack is pretty bad. Like mine is halfway on the aluminum casing almost. It's not in the center of the plastic between the aluminum at all like the power button. Is this normal?

Yes headphone jack is in normal position.. my Inspire was like that as well. Not aesthetically pleasing, but am sure it has to do with placement of items inside the phone.

What about the part where if you move the notification bar down you can feel the screen is not flush with the phone. Like the screen is risen. On the bottom there is no issue. Is this a common "problem"?

I got that too, but decided it doesn't bother me that much. However I am going to exchange it for another with better power button, mine is way too recessed.

hello everybody,
I just purchased a GG yesterday, after reading a lot of your posts and thank you all for it. What convinced me was the new update that brings full notifications and better battery life. So far, I like it a lot, but of course 1 day is not enough.
There are 2 things I would like to ask other owners, who might have had it for longer time.
I read the post about the IP55 rating, but I would like to know if somebody really dropped it in water (most likely unintentionally), drop some water/liquid on it, got heavy rain, ecc. In other words, something more than washing hands or sweat.
Second point regards scratches. There are a lot of posts about this all over Internet, but very controversial. I would like to know if any of you had any scracth on the glass, the case or the buckle. If any of you experinced any serious bump, drops and so forth. I read somewhere that the GG has sapphire glass, but I seriously doubt it, as usually these glasses are very expensive and are used mostly on more expensive watches.
Thining logically, Samsung should have considered these issues, as after all, it is a watch and you want to wear it, so some kind of protection shluld be there. But I learnt that logic does not always work.
Any advice/experience you would like to share will be much appreciated!!!
Thank you very much,
Roger
I am using GEAR since end of OCT.
- water resistance - rain, drops of water is OK for the watch - if You search the forum you will even find the movie with the gear under kitchen tap water flowing on it. It is NOT ok for shower, swimming, diving etc. Generally - keep it away from water when possible. GEAR build quality is OK
If You wonder how SONY watch behaves - check their forum - a lot of complains and quality issues in general like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2574988
- scratch resistance - Gear glass is NOT scratch resistant! it scratches very easy so keep it away from any hard objects, sand, metal, etc. Generally speaking- with the product life of maximum 1 year ( yes, we may expect GEAR II not later than September 2014) scratch resistance is not so important, and Samsung for sure will not use sapphire for the glass - it is too expensive.
I've had mine since day one and no problem with it whatsoever. I don't take it off when I wash my hands just careful not getting it wet.
Battery life is pretty strong as you go about two days. Don't have any scratches on it so far but I'm pretty careful when I'm around walls/tables/desks.

Same here ^^^
I have washed my hands with mine on and have gotten water on it (even into the speaker area) no problems so far. Regarding scratched, I put on a skinomi shield (invisible shield type). Looks awesome! Super clear and can barely see it's on. I got the full body which has a cover for under the watch (not too sure why you would need it but I put on since it came with it). I should let you know that with the full body cover, the charger takes some work to get it to close but it's definitely close-able. Have fun with you new gear. I know I am.
Picked up a galaxy gear with carbon fiber skin protector from skinomi and it came with a screen protector too. Bought extra screen protectors off Amazon just in case. Everything running great and not worries about scratches anymore. Still very cautious around water though.

Had mine for awhile as well. I don't worry about washing my hands or rain. Just wouldn't submerge it to be on the safer side. Scratches... The speaker clasp is pretty scratched up but I'm not too concerned about it. As for the face, I have hit/bumped/scraped on things such as desk, doors, walls, etc. So far it has held up well with no noticeable scratches. However I always worry every time I do bump it.

I know this is a slightly callous thing to say, but suddenly watches have fallen into the bi-yearly replaceable category.
No longer are they finely hand crafted devices that merely tell you just the time (and sometimes the date), they are an extension of your phone. Generally my analogue time pieces would last me anywhere between 5-15 years. This is technology though and we all know it can become out of date very quickly. It's sad and I dislike this fact, but I know that in a year or two I will want to upgrade to keep up with the Jones'. Not just that, I guarantee the Note 6 won't support the original Gear.
We're stuck in the cycle now!
My gear has me essentially committed to samsung now. I usually switch out phones alot but no more. No nexus 5 for me I guess. I wish I didn't have to use some weird workaround to get it to work with another phone

Skinomi Full Body Cover: Clasp Section Won't Adhere?

Were you able to get the Skinomi clasp cover to stay on? Mine was very difficult to get on to begin with and I could never get the corners to adhere properly. Within a couple days, the corners were full of dirt. Skinomi sent me a new one, but same problem. Is there a trick to get the corners to stay down, or is the clasp cover just useless?
I am sure you ll enjoy your gg . I just bought one purely to be used when I am out on my motorbike as it will be alot easier to see who calls etc without reaching to my phone with gloves and stuff.

Learn some basic electronics work and you'll be able to keep stuff running for much longer. That won't help with stuff that just get outdated to the point where they're no longer useful, but I don't see all that much application for more processing power in a watch. In a few years, just open it up and swap the battery with one purchased for a few dollars on a site like HobbyKing.

I don't need to know much about electronics to know that paying for Battery no matter how cheap, at HobbyKing or at the street corner against someone no longer useful is both immoral and illegal.

By the same logic, once the battery goes dead in your car, it's time to buy a new car because replacing the battery is "immoral and illegal". There's nothing wrong with trying to fix something you own.
This is truly an informative thread, thanks for all the detailed replies.

Maybe there is a language barrier issue, but Klau1, if it is your watch then of course you can replace the battery in it with a new one. This is not immoral or illegal in any way.
