[Q] Email App - Reply-All is including me? - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey,
Just picked up a Note 3 through work, and have it connected via ActiveSync to my work's exchange server.
I used to have a GNEX with the same configuration, so I know this problem is due to the new device.
When I receive an email, and hit Reply All, it includes me on the response - but on my GNEX, this was never the issue, it would only reply to the other people in the email thread.
Does anyone know what the deal is with this? Am I missing a setting somewhere (I honestly don't know where everything is, with this ****ty TW layout).
Any help is appreciated.

You need to go into the email app and settings. Click on your email account you want to edit and look for it.

Yeah, been there, done that.
There's a "Make Reply-All the default" option, but that's about it.
2 attached files show the problem in action.

I can't find it as well. This is weird. When I hit the two arrows at the bottom (Reply to all)
It does not include me. You don't have that "Make Reply-All" checked right? If so, I would take that off.
When reading an email, at the bottom you should have multiple buttons to use.
One back arrow for reply
Two back arrows together for reply all
One forward arrow to forward emails
The trash can looking icon
and last, next and back icon to go between emails quicker.
This is whats on all my emails when opened and I have no issues at all.

yes, Make Reply-All The Default is checked. even without it though, i get the same problem.
interestingly enough, this also happens in Gmail.
just did a factory reset, going to see if that changes anything.

OK, a factory reset solved it in both Email and Gmail.
In the Samsung Email app, if you go into Settings and pick Show More Settings, there is a "Auto CC/BCC" option. Strangely enough, this was unchecked (set to None) while this strangeness was happening.
Factory reset, then flashed the 4.4 Email and Exchange apks, then added my work account. Still experienced the same "Reply-All-Includes-Me" issue in 4.4 Email, didn't check Gmail. Added my work account to the Samsung Email app, and the problem disappeared. Deleted my account from the Samsung Email app, and now the 4.4 Email app is working properly.
Thanks for your help with this, it's greatly appreciated.

latest cyanogen mod - email not updating

Currently I am running the latest cyanogen mod on my g1 and for the past few updates my email won't update with new messages. The only way to get new emails is to do a manual update. My twitter updates as it always has.
Thoughts?
Hmmm lets c....u want ur email to autoupdate.....now if only there were such an option in settings somewhere
Btw, u posted in the wrong forum. There is a forum section labelled Q/A....since u have a question and want an answer, id assume tht section would be appropriate.
Thank you for the quick reply and the insightful suggestion. I did however already check to make sure that the autoupdate box was checked.
My apologies for posting in the wrong section. I will be sure start a new post somewhere else...
I just figured since I'm running a mod and this seems to be a bug of some kind perhaps, I'd post here.
Perhaps posting in the cyanogenmod thread would be appropriate, then.

This is not an SMS or Twitter! You have more than 160 chars to work with, so stop writing like that!
I guess I should have clarified...
The update interval on email (imap) accounts is set to 1 hour.
I was talking about gmail and from what I can see there is no selection for update interval. Only data sync under settings which is all checked.

I've had this problem before, I would completely wipe and reinstall cyanogenmod (Wipe, Htc recovery, the whole 6 miles)
I was kinda of afraid that it would come to that.
Thanks for the input and no flameage...

dude... this isn't a debate either, so don't start random arguments.
I had the same issue, and a full wipe sorted it for me.
Cheers! Thanks for the heads up
I'm also having this problem (with the Work Email app though). Think i'm going to wait until some 2.1 Eclair builds start appearing though before I do a full wipe.
A wipe seems to have fixed my gmail issue. The other issue I have is with SMS messages. Not sure if it's a problem with my phone or google voice though. For some reason i'm not getting my GV messages right away. This might be a short coming of GV.

which voice app are you using?
I'm using the app from google. If I set up the app to check for messages every 5 minutes it works great.
They way I'd like to have it set up is that Google will send me an actual SMS message. Allowing me to reply to that SMS as I normally would. Not via the Voice app.
Please state the MOD number instead of "the latest". Makes it better for everybody. Thanks

I get mine instantly, I think it is a shortcoming of the app. If I don't have the app it is instant, if I do then it comes at scheduled times. Try it without the app (It's just an interface anyway, you can get the same things through email)
I think I will try uninstalling the app and see what happens.
Thanks!

Push Notifications for Google Voice on Market!

New update for google voice!! It includes (I think) push notification for text messages!
Yeah it does. Read more here: http://googlevoiceblog.blogspot.com/2010/03/faster-google-voice-experience-on.html
Yep, sure looks that way. I wonder if it's necessary to put Google Voice on ignore list for task killer apps though.

Yes it is. If you kill the GV process, you won't receive notifications.
Advanced Task Manager has "Apps", "Services", "All Apps", and "System". I think it's OK to kill it from "Apps", but not the other tabs.
I don't seem to get push notifications on my voicemail. I haven't check with texts yet....

You may have already done this, but it case you haven't, there's a new setting that has to be enabled for the instant notifications to work.

Same here. I had to go to my backup file in oder to use it. Thank Goodness for Back-Ups
Same here. I was, however, able to sign in after selecting "sign in using a different account" and using my same account info.
I love this update because of the sync with inbox. When I first finished installing the update I couldn't send a sms or do the sync so I just rebooted, ran fix_permissions, and that fixed everything!
The google blog post said the inbox syncing would stop the forwarding of a google voice SMS to the phone's regular SMS number. That is NOT the case for me. I'm still getting google voice SMS'es forwarded to my cell's number. This double text receiving is the single greatest aggravation of google voice texting.

That worked....but the weird thing is I don't have inbox sync as a new option. I still have the refresh option, but it says that it's the new version. I'll try to uninstall and reboot.
edit: Still no new options.
Guys, am I alone in this? The new Voice app is not syncing/pushing texts for me, nor is it not forwarding. It's behaving like the old one.

You don't understand how Voice forwarding works. The "forwarding" setting on the Voice website is for additional forwarding of a text to an email address. Voice by default has always forwarded to the cell phone number associated with the Voice account. That was supposed to end with this update.
The Google blog post says the following:
"...feature called Inbox synchronization, which will notify your Android-powered device of new text messages or voicemails within seconds of receiving new messages..."
and
"Plus, Google Voice will automatically disable SMS forwarding to your mobile phone, so you won’t receive duplicate notifications."
It's odd to me that both these features do not work. Maybe we can figure out something by discussing.
btw, why is this whining? We're discussing an app and its features. We're trying to get this working and comparing notes with others. I don't whine... ever. We're blessed to have such amazing phones and software to begin with.

Gmail notification

I'm having a small bug that when I receive an email notification, I will click the notification, read my email. Then I'll press the home button and the notification will remain until I go to the home of the gmail app or I clear the notifications. Anyone have this, or know of a fix?

Yeah i complained about this a while ago. I havent found any fix for it, maybe rooting could help but im not into that. Perhaps Froyo will address some of the minor yet annoying bugs like this. With so many rumored awesome feature additions coming up, I sure hope that minor bug fixes are not getting overlooked.
Yes I hope so too.

I'm pretty sure this is because when the mail is still open, it is still "unread". So by hitting the home key you leave gmail in the state it was in, with the mail still new. I think if you hit back instead of home, it'll get rid of the notification. Just a guess though.

But this is different behaviour than earlier versions of Android.
Definitely on 1.6 & 1.5 the GMail app cleared off the notification as soon as you looked at the email. Which is the behaviour lots of people are used to, so although minor, this bug is very annoying.

Anyone experience this issue with Exchange on 2.2?

I am using the built in email app to connect to my Exchange server and I have my phone with me at work like most people.
What I experience is a message will come in to my mailbox, instantly I get the notification in both Outlook and the N1. I will read the message in Outlook, decide to keep it (mark it as unread)/delete it (move it to deleted items) and the N1 will keep notifying me via Trackball glow that I have an unread message even though I've read it.
If I read or delete a message on the N1 it is always pushed back to the Exchange server (and consequently Outlook) immediately.
Anyone else experience this? It is okay when I am not near Outlook, but when I'm in the office it is very annoying to be alerted about messages that I've already read or deleted.
This type of behavior is not happening on my iPhone 3GS when I had it connected and this type of behavior does not happen for my GMail account on the N1.
I actually believe the update to a message from read to unread may actually get pushed to the device they just don't clear the notification. I can confirm this by going in to the mail app and I noticed all the changes I've made are up to date.
The issue seems to be that the notifications won't auto-clear on the N1 once the changes have already been pushed to the phone. This really sucks
Can anyone confirm my findings? Thanks
I can also confirm this. The notification has to be cleared manually. Once the notification is there it's there until you acknowledge it.
Froyo, Desire, they all do that. Notification doesn't clear automatically apparently. Would be nice if it did. Once a check of unread/read is done, just clear the alerts once open/moved etc..

Google Mail notifications will clear automatically so it is definitely something they left out inadvertently. I hope they can fix it soon.
I switched back to my iPhone for the time being because of this. Does anyone know if there have been any attempts to fix this issue in 2.3?
Thanks.

ClockworkMod DesktopSMS: Sending and receiving texts from your XOOM (and desktop)

DesktopSMS forwards all your incoming SMS on your *Android Phone* to your Gmail to GTalk.
You can then reply to the chat request or email, and the response will be sent back from your phone as a text message. This is very similar to Google Voice, except you won't need a new number or anything annoying like that!
http://app.net/desktopsms
Installation:
1) Install DesktopSMS on your ANDROID PHONE. (Not onto your XOOM)
2) Login to Desktop SMS on your ANDROID ****PHONE****.
3) Install a Chat client like Google Talk (which may already be on your XOOM) onto your XOOM or desktop PC.
4) Receive a text. Watch as your text gets converted to an email and google chat message
5) Respond!
So, once again, this app is only installed on your phone. Then just install your favorite IM client on your desktop and tablet, and the rest will work magically!
You do not need to install this on both your phone and tablet like other apps. You do not need to be on the same network like other apps. This all works by magic (my servers).
Let me know what you think. This is in a free beta right now, so be prepared for some bugs! I'd love to hear your feedback.
Wrote you a PM
well, I don't have a smart phone so thats a problem.
I, like many others, have ditched their smartphomes and activated their xooms. I now only have a dummy phone. I didn't see a need in paying for two data plans because I ws rarey using my phone. Now I use it to talk and text.... even though I wish it was only to talk.
I am waiting for the day that I can SMS on my Xoom using my current phone number. Guess I'll jabe to keep waiting. lol
Works awesome...just had a conversation with myself, through gtalk. Hahaha havnt tried it with my xoom yet. But im pretty sure it will work just fine. Very good job
It looks great but I cannot seem to get it to work yet, Mr. Koush. I have it signed it with push notifications successfully on my gmail account on my OG Droid. I can do the test message from within the app and it pops up on my phone like always, but other than that it does nothing on my Xoom, or on anything else for that matter. It seems almost like the push notifications are not even being sent out.
EDIT: I found out what the problem was. I had the default messaging app totally disabled, as I am using Handcent SMS as a complete replacement to the default one. I would like to use Handcent SMS instead of the default one. I know its beta and I cannot wait for updates!

It looks like after you receive your first text from that person after you accepted the "chat invite" on your Gtalk account it syncs up with your current contact list automatically. It shows the phone number on the left side of the screen under your gmail account, but in the chat window it shows that contacts name in parenthesis.
This ofcourse is for if you are using the Xoom with Gtalk, such as myself. I haven't tried anything else yet.
Could it be that the contacts NAME will be in the gtalk LIST instead of phonenumber ?
OK, being a bit thick here.
I'm using GoSMS Pro, but as far as I know, the default messaging app is still active, just without any notifications... does this make a difference?
Not currently receiving any notifications in email or g-talk... :/

Is it possible that your push servers are blocked in China?
I can correctly Login with Google Account, but get an error on 'registering with push server....' (takes long and eventually times out)
Error message: "Login failed. Please check your password. If the error persists, please send a log to the developer"
here is a log... maybe it helps analyze why i can't connect with the push servers...
Ok, it's just updated, and when I go to send a test SMS, it brings up

So that's cool, then I send the test. GoSMS then pops up the text, as it always does.
However, it still doesn't appear to be sending me an email.
When it says "please verify that it has not disabled SMS notifications in the application's settings", does it mean the default Messaging app?
I've tested by disabling the taskbar notification for GoSMS and re-enabling it for the default Messaging app, but even then, there is no sound nor visual cue that an SMS has arrived... is this why it's not working? Has GoSMS broken my default messaging app?
