Sounds a little like work to me...

Was nice in the past when you just left an email address and took your chances - now everybody with a contest wants all this social media BS involvement, oh well. I don't have any "social media" accounts, never will.
And I've been "online" since 1977, go figure...

A few mobile technology things I hear that P*SS ME OFF

Here are a few things, that when I hear people say them or something like them, I immediately want to just punch them in the face.
1. "4G is here!"
Uhm, no. Next year, buddy, at the earliest. It's going to be in a few markets and a few markets for the next year or so, but not everywhere that you'd normally get 3G. And by the way, THIS.
2. "Verizon is the best (in the US)!"
Uhm, no. They may have the best coverage, but I'd prefer not to pay out of my a** to get it. I'd also like it if people weren't nickled and dimed for every little thing, like tiered data plans (F*CK bandwith capping) and tethering.
3. "My iPhone is the greatest!"
Uhm, no. Lay off the Kool-Aid.
4. "Why did you buy that BRICK of a phone? (about my Touch Pro 2)
Hey, di*kface, this phone has the best mobile keyboard on the planet. That's a lot of space right there. Not to mention all the hardware goodies that were nice when the phone first came out. I want my phone to be like a mini-computer, so I'm okay if it's as big and heavy as one.
Okay, just venting. Anyone else get frustrated at some of the things you constantly hear?????!!!!

I will bow down to you!! That exactly what everyone says!!! SPOT on!
This is what i get in school:
"Why have you got an old 80's phone?" "I havent, but i better my phone is better than yours at multitasking!"
"Look he carrys his computer around in his pocket" "at least ive got a computer!"
Or..
"Whys your phone so big?" "Because its about to burst with the amount of functions it has"
Some people ask how old my phone is. I say 7 years old. They say its getting on a bit. Why don't you buy a Samsung Tocco Lite? I say:
1. Tocco's screen is too small,
2. I can't play DOOM on a tocco,
3. Its too popular
4. Its not windows mobile,
5. Why would i spend about £60 on a phone i can lose easier because its small?
6. The build quality won't be as good.
So there!!!! Iam a bit tired now, might just chop my hands off.

LOL
I always get "It's a bit Heavy" - to which they get "It has a fully functional QWERTY keyboard - it's an acceptable trade off".
I also like taking the proverbial "P" out of people who still own iPhone's and are getting bored with them. I keep telling them how many of Apple FanBoi's have now gotten the HTC Desire and love it now.

I hope nobody minds if I expand to the internet, too (I guess that's still relevant to the topic heading)...
5. "Facebook needs to fix their privacy settings"
Listen, moron, it's the internet. It's public. If you don't want private information out in public, DON'T PUT IT ON THE INTERNET.

The day I joined FB was the day I set my privacy settings up.
And so far, I've only changed them to make them less restrictive.
If you're too stupid to understand them, maybe you shouldn't use it .

I have 2 Twitter accounts and I try to use them as often as possible, but I just can't figure out why people would choose this over Facebook. You get the status updates, you can post pictures and videos just the same, and you have more of a profile established with loads of stuff. I mean all of my status updates are the same for all of them (thanks to Digsby) and please don't be offended by this, but why do a majority of people prefer Twitter? I'd love to get into it, but I just don't see it.

I've found that Twitter is best to reach a larger audience in a shorter amount of time, which is why it is perfect for ROMs and such. John releases a rom, he has 20,000 followers. These followers tell their followers through a retweet and it quickly gets around. With Facebook it could take days before anyone notices something (or says anything).
I've always used Facebook for family conversations and Twitter for my android friends.

Ahhhh, that makes good sense. Actually, now that I think about it, it makes sense for why Twitter is so popular for celebrities and media outlets. Hmm, interesting. Thanks!

Social Networks trying to take over the world?

Have you all noticed that Facebook, twitter, and other networks try to take over the world? Facebook in skyfire now, facebook is everywhere with "like" buttons, Social Networks are forced by freaking Motoblur, people reporting each their step: "I just ate Icecream!" "I just saw some weird dude." "People what to do? I got a ticket!"
Get your butt out of the computer/cellphone and go to the beach watch a sunset! Let your brain free for at least a moment!
While checking email in the morning, I see hundreds of posts from people about what they did on a hourly basis.
So pathetic. After all this I really want to delete facebook and add it to all possible filters.
What is your opinion of such invasion and zombification?
I say xda is better than facebook...
You can meet intellecual minds here
I agree, but they are not taking over the world, they are taking over people who are stupid enough to think that facebook is their life.
+1!

Its strange how people used to share things such as photos, and sentimental things in real life. And now people cant wait to upload to facebook.
I must confess i'm a twitter addict though (hopefully not in the: "i'm eating a sandwich kinda way")
It's only a fad. I remember the days when Friendster was cool and everyone was on it. Then came MySpace, and in that got canned with Facebook. Once FB floats, investors are gonna put a lot of pressure on the management to monetize their assets (users) and this is gonna push the engineers to their peak frustration. They'll start using codes that users hate, and sooner or later a new social network will start, and the cycle begins anew.

In fact this is one of the few interesting threads where even the only posting trolls or jokes made a serious comment! FANTASTIC thread I say!

Im just getting really annoyed by facebook, twitter, and myspace stuff forced upon me. I install something, there yahoo toolbar forced, or facebook link.
I keep facebook just as an easy connection to friends, but not as my way of life. I go to facebook anytime and i see at least 10 of my friends sitting out there, where 9 out of these 10 post all what they did.
I also loved skyfire, but now its impossible to use it on my Magic at all. Instead of making that, they could have fixed video errors, that happen in 2 out of 3 videos. Plus there were no single movie that I could finish without an error.
Off topic: You guys should have seen the computer at my temporary workplace. It had 150 toolbars installed on IE, Starting from yahoo toolbar and ending with facebook toolbar. All kinds of notifiers and BS, forced on the noobs. Took me 2 hours to clean everything from it, including hundreds of viruses and bs.
It is clearly obvious that the goal of each social network is to capture people as many as possible. Alone I do not blame them. For the most part it is people's fault.
I was growing up in Ukraine, and a computer was something that we did once a month (if lucky enough). We did anything possible, from fishing to exploring... Were out from sunrise till sundown.
Even shared photos and proposed to girls in PERSON. Now people breaking up on freaking facebook, and seek a remedy for their problems...

next step will be lowered monthly bill for web2.0 and raised monthly bill for old web ... naturally most folks will flock to the cheaper web2.0 "becuz thats what they use anyway" and by this happening , slowly will form a whitelist of "big sites" where users have a net id to sign in and u can be moderated , banned and sanctionated . the isp's will be free to push select sites(read :who they get the best offers from) at the users while the truly free internet , where anyone can make their own , and speak out , shall slowly fade away

Actually, it's turning the other way around. The big players were bouncing around the idea of charging users more if they go to popular sites like FB and Google.
IDK why is the Op so facebook/social networks hater,
i dont have any toolbar nor viruses, eventhough i dont use an antivrus software or anything.
i have a fb account and i use it only for people i know... no need for strangers, they are always rejected...

Only room for one social networking site

So Google+ is soon to be released to the public. Do you think Facebook is to big and powerful to fall
Or is Google simply to powerful to fail?
Sent from my HTC HD2 using Tapatalk
Facebook is dead. Google has all other smartphone competitors by the gonads now with Google+. G+ will be the prevailing social site and Google will have total control of it and whether they allow competitors to use it. Facebook will be a sinking weight on Google's competitors because of it dying off.
Only time will tell.
Both could exist - it's possible. There are the people who are sick of facebook and that whole ecosystem that want to move to the next best thing. But then there are the people who are engrained into facebook and so are their friends, and they have no motivation to leave it. Its up for grabs really.
Apple users and non geeks will stick to facebook....
The rest of us will use G+ and probably peek at facebook once a day to see what people we dont give a crap about are up to....
Or something....
Edit;
How until we see a social network from Apple??
Ping or whatever that crap was/is called doesnt count as that is obvious fail.....

Right now, G+ is "I-want-to-share-something-nerdy", and FB is the place i talk to my friends with no nerdy articles or questions
I got an invite to g+
I tried to get on and got a message saying there is an age requirement. If they keep the age limit too high then all the teenagers will stay on fb and get further attached to it.
Btw I'm 16, have a facebook, but barely use it
Good let the kids stay on facebook. Facebook is turning into what myspace used to be.

I have a spare Spotify invite(s). (25)

I have a spare Spotify invite(s) and wanna share it with my fellow Nook Color users (I know it should be in the off-topic forums, but I don't want random people I have never seen or spammers and trolls spamming me for invites). There is a contest for it, so post a good reason why you want/deserve Spotify in the US. Also note that this contest will be over in four (4) days. There will be a runner-up. Be creative!
*To those who say you can us a UK proxy to make an account and transfer it to the US: You will get a 20 hour per month limit. US Invites will give you unlimited hours (at least until it becomes public)
Simply because I'm quiet a fan of getting into beta releases of almost anything i can get my hands on. Since I am a big fan of music (who isn't) it would be pretty neat to get a shot at getting an invitation.
good luck to all the entries!
If it actually worked, it would be worth getting excited about. It hung on several songs for me, which based on the spamware forum they use for hosting is a common problem (even ads hang!), and there's a surprising amount of material missing from their catalog. Combine that with an Android application that doesn't stream and you've got a nice pile of suck. It's too bad. I had high hopes based on the hype...

Get alerts for Nexus 5 and 4.4 via Google

I posted this on G+ and thought I'd share it here.
So, there's an onslaught of people with all manner of "When will 4.4 or Nexus 5 be released?"
Let me help you out by teaching you a bit about Google Alerts.
Google Alerts is a sadly underused service. You can go to http://www.google.com/alerts first and type in Nexus 5 confirmed in the search box.
If you use RSS readers like feedly, you can change delivery to feed. To import it into feedly, after you finish creating the alert, right click the RSS icon next to the alert and copy link address. You then go into feedly and click on Add New Content and just paste the address into the box.
If you don't use RSS, leave it set to your email address.
Make sure that as-it-happens is selected.
Click on Create Alert.
Now, anytime Google gets a new search result that matches your search term, you'll either get an email or a new result in your RSS feeds. This will save you from hours upon hours of scouring the web for results on when it will be released. Feel free to make the search term whatever you like but I'm fairly confident once we have the exact release date, there'll be plenty of Nexus 5 confirmed results but you can also create multiple alerts for multiple search strings to cover your bases, just don't get mad at me if you get inundated with email.
I've used Google Alerts before and it's a fantastic service. Thanks for reminding me to use it here. I didn't put two and two together but great idea.
Finally a thread of use in the nexus 5 forums!

Nice idea. Personally, I use G+ quite a bit so I'll know that it was released when it explodes with nerd joy followed quickly by nerd rage after Google Play screws something up. :silly:
I'll say this for them, though: I keep coming back for more because every order/pre-order is an adventure.
The problem is that by the time you get an alert, all the stock has been sold out.

The Nexus 4 was released in the store something like thirty minutes to an hour before the official announced time; I remember that my obsessive checking got me in before the rush (and then of course my order fell into limbo and I got my phone in the second wave of deliveries).
I say if you care enough to want to get it now, keep checking the obvious places when you get a chance.

It alerts you when there is news coverage, not when the phone is available for purchase. All the fanatics will be F5'ing it up and there's a high chance that by the time a news site picks up on it, all the stock will be dried up.
