Will Galaxy Gear work with Nexus 5 - Samsung Galaxy Gear

I read that Galaxy Gear will work on any phone which supports Bluetooth 4.0 LE.
I believe Nexus 5 supports Bluetooth 4.0 LE, so will it work with the Gear?
Any knows or read about it on the web?

As far as I seen it has but may still need touchwiz I'm not 100%. Check out the thread here. Looks like the latest BT is the key so maybe able to work around it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using xda app-developers app

So it is true that the Gear will only work with Samsung phones.

woohoo! thanks a lot for the how to it worked perfectly! I never bothered installing Gear Manager on Nexus 5 though. Calling works fine without it and you can load Tablet Talk 1.6.4 for texting and media remote for music control so I dont really need anything else, use a custom launcher too so no need to change watch face. and if you run the awesome custom rom Null_ you can connect PDA net and get internet working!

Will this workaround work on the Galaxy Nexus?

This is great! Got a question. .. I have both Note 3 and N5. Is it possible to still use both phones with the Gear (one at a time, of course) or would I need to modify the xml file on the Gear every time I want to switch phones? If not, is there a way to edit the Gear xml so that it can work with both phones? Thanks

Nah, only possible to connect one device at a time (swapping resets it). However, check out null rom - new version should have support for multiple devices

EDIT...
OK so I put my thinking cap on and I kind of figured it out but but the gear manager app says I'm disconnected and when I try to connect it idles to a timeout. Any suggestions?

Great!
but I only have access to an unrooted and supported galaxy device.. any suggestions - or could I just use the shared_pref files and modify the bt mac adress?

My galaxy note 3 is now sold.
I still have my Galaxy Gear as I had sent it to Samsung for repair. I got it back today.
My question is if I root the gear now, can I still get the Gear working with a rooted Nexus 5? Or do I still need a Note 3?
Please let me know. If I need it then I can also all my Galaxy Gear and get the Smartwatch 2 for note 3.
By the way after rooting the Gear, which software do I use to edit the settings to the Bluetooth MAC address of nexus 5?

Awesome!!
I succeeded pairing my PANTECH IM-A890K (w/ android 4.2) with Galaxy Gear, what a surprise !!
The only problem is that Gear Manager's "Setting" crashes so I cannot enable notifications. But I am very happy with it although notification don't work. Thank you for hard work!

Can I ask how you managed it!.

Galaxy Gear issues with Nexus 7 2012 and Nexus 4

Okay folks. I am having issues here unfortunately.
I am running a Nexus 7 2012 with Paranoid Android latest ROM with 4.4.2 Kit Kat. Therefore my tablet is rooted and I am using ES File Explorer. I downloaded the gear manager stub.apk, the gear manager (version 1.2).apk and the ATN manager file.
Now I installed the gear manager stub file. Then as per this instruction (http://pocketnow.com/2014/02/07/gala...th-the-nexus-5) or as per the post by blazespinnaker (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2500999), I installed ALL the com.samsung apks excluding music and weather since I get an installation error.
I then installed gear manager apk and loaded up the app. It said 0/19 and then 0/2. I hit connect manually and got a connection failed error. The device pairs fine with the bluetooth based on the pairing code that shows up on the tablet and watch. No go!
Same thing happens with my Nexus 4 stock 4.4.2 non rooted. Any tips/suggestions would help...
See video:

Is this thing only capable of working on a rooted Nexus 5? Some hardware that's missing on the Nexus 7 2012 and Nexus 4?
Galaxy nexus here ( nexus 3 ) on aokp rom. I had similar problems like you describe until i pasted the gearmanagerstub.apk into system/app and install it from there. Then reboot

Yes! GOT IT TO WORK! Finally! Had to follow this guide! It made sense to get this version of Gear Manager and not the version 1.2

Some of the data in that 159mb is only download as a package to install the software. And then deleted. So don't worry about the size. The problem gear manager has. Well that samsung has. Is they don't update the software so to speak. They release a new one. So to overwrite our already installed they need to rename the files while installing . And sometimes it conflicts cos of the filenames . It's best to just uninstall all. Then install fresh. Pain in the are. But clean installs always more smooth

Yes. Choose a version that worked for you. Then before configuring it. Disable it's Internet connection with a firewall. I recommend x posed framework with xprivacy

Thanks man. I'll give it a try with droidwall or xprivacy
I see your gear 2 is rooted. Is it worth doing that?

Well. root is needed if you want to modify files in sdb.exe and/or in tizen sdk but if you flash tizenmod rom. That's pre rooted anyway

Last week I got the Gear 2 Neo, and was using it with my Note 8, which wasn't fully supported. Spec wise it seemed like it should work, but I had to change the build.prop to make it work. I purchased a watchface that I really liked.
Today I got my Note 4, and when I went to go find the same watchface in the store, it's no longer there.
Is there a way to transfer a backup from one device to another device?
No change your build.prop of your note 4 to match your note 8

So I actually need to change my build.prop to the same model S5? Gear Manager doesn't work with the Note 8, so I had to change it to that to get it to download and setup. I did everything I wanted while the Note 8 was an S5, but changed it after. Almost everything worked then, except the app store.

Yeah I think so. Change it to the same build prop as the device you bought the app. Then once you got it. Change it back

Sorry guys... I have a little doubt... Yesterday I update my rom in my Galaxy Note 4 sm-910c and today my gear 2 have high drain of battery, what I can do? Can some one help me? Maybe Bluetooth problem? Thank you for the advice!
Note 4, SM-910C Model.
Does this now work non-Samsung phones on lollipop? I'm just getting a crash on start-up. Not sure if it's something I'm doing or it doesn't work with ART.
As I read, the gear manager isnt compatible with ART yet. Im waiting too so I can finally use my gear neo again.
We need to wait until gear mánager work with art

[Q] Anyone know how I can get the Zgpax S28 smart watch working on Lollipop?

As the title says; I can't get my Zgpax S28 smart watch working I have downloaded the Apk BTnotifier but it still says on the watch to install the app on the phone. Is this just a thing with Android L doing this or the Nexus 6 itself?
To get my lg g watch r to work, i had to download the android wear app in order to get it to connect with my n6. Hope it helps.

I'm having exactly the same issue with CM12 on note 4.
It worked on an S3 I tried it on which had KitKat installed, but since upgrading the S3 to CM12 it has the same 'install the app on the phone' error.
Looks like the BTNotifier app is needing an update to work with lollipop.
Have you had any luck with getting it to work? If I find anything I'll reply again in here..
Cheers

You need to the BT app at web address pointed to by the quickapp link on the watch
that will get your phone working with your watch.

[GUIDE] Use Samsung Health with Knox 0x1

As some of you will know, Samsung have no longer allowed Samsung Health to work on devices where Knox has been tripped.
This guide will show you how to get the latest version of Samsung Health to run without this block
This works ONLY on NON-ROOTED DEVICES
If you are not rooted and/or cannot root then you can follow the steps below to get Samsung Health working(this will only work if the app is not installed as a system app).
1- Uninstall the S-Health App (if you cannot uninstall the app, this means it is installed to the system partition).
2- Install patched version of the Samsung Health app which can be found HERE
3- Open the app and complete setup
4- Download and install SAI from here: Link
5- Open SAI and activate the option: Sign APKs
6- Download the last Samsung Health from here: Link
7- Install the APK with SAI
8- You should now be able to use the S-Health app without issue
