Hello guys, I've been stuck with this for a couple of hours now, I try to install cynanogenmod in my GT-P1000 follow the guide as usual everything was normal but when it came time to use the device it's not taking any input not on the touch screen nor in the physical buttons.
Can someone give me a hint on how to repair this? I've been looking at similar thread but the recomend downgrading the firmware if someone can point me out how to do it it would be a big Help!!
Thanks
Maybe you flash P1000 rom on a P1000L or N
Or the other way round.

I try to use the P1000N but it was rejecting, I don't want to try it with CDMA because AFAIK it can turn my phone into a brick. So Yes I beleive I have the P1000 l(GSM). Any other advice
The L and the normal P1000 differs exactly that. The touch screen.
Just flash a L or N rom again.

GT-P1000N I try with N but it does not even pass the assert of

You can remove the assert line if you are sure that is your model.
Search this forum.
For example
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31519426&postcount=186
A bit of note. If you are using windows, it doesn't understand the case sensitive file names within the zip. So don't try to unzip, edit, rezip. That will break the zip.
One way is to use 7zip, drag out the updater script. Edit it, then drag back in.

You sure you modify the updater and drag it back , not unzip the whole thing and rezip?
When you fail to install, what is the new error.
Can't be assertion error again after removing those lines.

Then I did it wrong I just rezip the whole thing, what do you mean drag it back?

Use 7zip to open the zip. Literally use the mouse to drag the updater script out to desktop. Edit as per Alroger's post.
Save.
Then while still having the 7zip opening the zip, drag back the updater script into the Rom.
Btw, make sure you have the original zip.
The one you have molested earlier is bad already.

ever wanted to flash back to froyo but didnt want to use the almighty odin? well here is a simple solution that should let u install froyo on a gb build without any errors
1.open the 2.2 rom you want to flash on the file explorer on your computer then click into the META-INF folder then com, google, android, and u will see the file updater script, delete that file (if u have problems getting that to delete use a program like winrar)
2.put the updater script u downloaded in replace of the old one (if winrar or any other program made u unzip the file and didnt zip it back up automaticlly make sure its done then place the file back to your phone and flash away
dont forget about the thanks button

This is helpful, but you have to know why first. The difference is the difference in the install scripts. In CWM versions before CWM3, we used amend scripting. Amend scripting is no longer supported in CWM3 and above, it now uses edify scripting.
Kernels that contain recovery prior to CWM3, you can flash the old scripts just fine. For example, cmenards latest JVQ based kernel supports both amend and edify scripting, and is based off CWM 2.5.x.x.
Its all in knowing what you are running, and what's compatible.
I wont get too preachy on this, but Odin is your friend, nothing to be scared or wary of, and with regular use to actually set you back to stock, will create a much better running environment for your Vibrant experience. Shortcuts around it will eventually cause all kinds of issues.

Wondering
Has this worked for anyone?
The OP missed some key points in this "guide".
If your zip file is using is using the old amend scripting, then there will be one file called update-script (not updater).
The newer scripts, edify scripting, uses two files, update-binary and updater-script, and you need both files if your kernel or recovery method is cwm3 or later, edify scripting only.
Or you could save a dev a future headache, and just use Odin.

You're talking about his last deadhorse kernel. That one, if memory serves me, even has a pre-kernel flash that you did through sgs kernel flasher, then the rom and full kernel. Coming from that one friend, I do believe Odin is your only option.

I'm trying to mod an existing custom rom for my own use. Im just changing some pngs.
I unzip it, use formatter to change framework res apk to rar, unpack it. Change my pngs, repack it, use formatter to change back to apk. (Do I need to sign it?) Zip up the folder with 7zip, set compression as store.( is this correct) . But when I go to install it in cwm it wont install. I'm clearly missing a step. Someone please tell me what I'm missing or doing wrong. Thanks

Cwm comes with a kernel.
Why do you need to it, may I ask?
You can use cwm4, then when you flash, say cm10, you get cwm6 anyway.
So what is the goal you have in mind?

whats going on youre the one who always helps me and im very thankful for that. sorry for the crazy questions i havent been on this fourm since i got my gs2 way back when. and now i put everything into my lg optiums g. i just wanna get to the most stable build of cm9 or 10. i have energy rom right now and cwm4. just came from sock. from what i read and i could be mistaking cuz i feel like i read endless thread containing different info that i need ext4 witch i have the zip and cwm5. i try and flash cm10 cuz i know the recovery lays in the zimage but it gives me a status 7 and aborted.
Maybe people expect me to reply first.
Haha.
Well, cm install takes care of the ext4.
Yes the assert error is known.
You need to edit the updater script to remove the line.
But make sure you download cm for p1c and not other.

I'm thinking the issue is that I need CWM5 to install CM10, but I can't find CWM5 anywhere for this tab.

Ok here's what you do get a zip program on ur computer I prefer winrar. Open up the ROM zip DO NOT EXTRACT IT, navigate to /META-INF/com/Google/android and open up the updater script in notepad. Start from the beginning and delete the first line up until the first semi colon you see (delete the first semi colon too ) and save and close the the zip and flash

to return to CM9 from CM10 you need to restock to GB because of the incompatible MTD partitioning.
Yea...which makes it a huge PITA to do it that way. So much stuff all over the place it makes it real hard to figure it out
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
what is the real issue? backup and restore?
Buy titanium backup pro.
Or is it hard to get stock ROM for CDMA tab?
The process of Odin/Heimdall restock is less than 5 minutes.
I did it many times (uncountable by now) on my P1000.
The actual step is where the pit file is loaded, making the partition "stock" again.
i am having the same problem can someone show me exactly what to delete?
i figured it out .
I was trying to modify the stock 244 rom using kitchen.I built the zip successfully but when flashing i always get a status 0 error.I know that the error is because of the updater script but i dont know how to modify it for my xperia z.I am new to this so someone please help me to successfully build the rom.

Status 0 errors are usually caused by an incompatible update-binary.
Try replacing the update-binary in your zip with one from a zip you know works on your phone.

I don't mean the update-script, I mean the update-binary. All the script does is tell the recovery what files to replace.
Bricking your phone depends on what you're trying to change. Generally you can only do it by flashing a wrong kernel.

Yep. After you build with kitchen or whatever, simply substitute update binary from Meta Inf blah blah, from the Cm10 of your device to your own zip.
